EVALUATION QUESTION 6:
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE
PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?

BLOGGER:
• Before we started this course I had never used Blogger or
even heard of BlogSpot. I also did not really see it as a
typical form of social networking as it is very different to
Twitter and Facebook.
• I had used Instagram and Twitter before to make an
accounts and to blog what I am doing, as well as what my
favourite celebrities are doing, however I had not
considered a website such as Blogger to be an effective
way of creating an online and interactive portfolio.
• Using blogger has enabled me to display multimedia work
in an organised and chronological online storage space of
which I can access anywhere.
• I have also developed my knowledge of how to embed links
into posts by highlighting words, making it easier to find the
source.
ONLINE TECHNOLOGY SUCH AS
GOOGLE DOCS:
• I was unaware what Google Docs could be used for surveys and
audience feedback until I was told. It proved to be very helpful and
successful when getting audience feedback as my survey was easily
accessible and the data was organised and displayed by the software in
a way which made it easy to not only answer the questions, but also to
see the results. This made it easier to compare the results.
IPHOTO:
• I had used iPhoto before, however I was unaware
how much you could edit images by using it, I had
only ever previously used the tools to crop the image
or add a filter. The tools which I had not used before
however were fairly straightforward, and I mainly
used the blemish tool in order to touch up the
background and models skin. It was also a very
quick process.
• I also used the enhancement and adjustment tool
which allowed me to alter the light and colour of the
image. This meant the model would look brighter and
the jacket stood out more due to the colour being
enhanced.
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP:
• I had previously used Photoshop a lot due to my GCSE work for
graphics, however I had not used it to create a magazine before, I only
knew the basic principles of layers and adjusting the images. I had
limited skills except to edit parts of the main image, so I think this
software is where I mostly developed my skills. I wanted to achieve a
professional and well-established and professional aesthetic to my
product, so I used YouTube in order to learn new skills, such as how to
create a silhouette from an image I took.
• Adding text to images was another area of improvement, for example I
learnt how to position and format large amount of text to fit into the
conventional 3 column format.
ADOBE INDESIGN
• This was the programme which I used for the creation of my school
magazine which I found very difficult to use at first, This is because I
had never used the programme and had to learn from scratch.
• In order to learn how to use it, I asked peers and used tutorials from
YouTube which were both equally helpful.

PHOTOGRAPHY:
• Before this task, I had limited experience of photography, except for
regular images which I took on my iPhone 7 camera. I had never
formally set up a posed photoshoot using a professional camera. I took
some test shots outside before the shoot to practice and get used to
using the camera, as well as to take the time to work out the best mode
to use depending on the situation and location.
• I further developed my photography skills when taking the actual images
I was going to use due to me learning that in order to achieve a studio
effect, I would need bright diffused lighting. In order to achieve this I
used reflectors and umbrella lights.
FOCUS GROUP AND PHOTOGRAPHY
• I asked members of my focus group who I
researched for any assistance in what sort of
images they would like to see in my
magazine.
• Sam, who was part of my focus group, gave
me advice on snapchat. This also uses social
networking which shows what a huge part of
everyday life digital technology is for my
target audience.

  • 1. EVALUATION QUESTION 6: WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT? By Grace Page-candidate 3103
  • 2. BLOGGER: • Before we started this course I had never used Blogger or even heard of BlogSpot. I also did not really see it as a typical form of social networking as it is very different to Twitter and Facebook. • I had used Instagram and Twitter before to make an accounts and to blog what I am doing, as well as what my favourite celebrities are doing, however I had not considered a website such as Blogger to be an effective way of creating an online and interactive portfolio. • Using blogger has enabled me to display multimedia work in an organised and chronological online storage space of which I can access anywhere. • I have also developed my knowledge of how to embed links into posts by highlighting words, making it easier to find the source.
  • 3. ONLINE TECHNOLOGY SUCH AS GOOGLE DOCS: • I was unaware what Google Docs could be used for surveys and audience feedback until I was told. It proved to be very helpful and successful when getting audience feedback as my survey was easily accessible and the data was organised and displayed by the software in a way which made it easy to not only answer the questions, but also to see the results. This made it easier to compare the results.
  • 4. IPHOTO: • I had used iPhoto before, however I was unaware how much you could edit images by using it, I had only ever previously used the tools to crop the image or add a filter. The tools which I had not used before however were fairly straightforward, and I mainly used the blemish tool in order to touch up the background and models skin. It was also a very quick process. • I also used the enhancement and adjustment tool which allowed me to alter the light and colour of the image. This meant the model would look brighter and the jacket stood out more due to the colour being enhanced.
  • 5. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP: • I had previously used Photoshop a lot due to my GCSE work for graphics, however I had not used it to create a magazine before, I only knew the basic principles of layers and adjusting the images. I had limited skills except to edit parts of the main image, so I think this software is where I mostly developed my skills. I wanted to achieve a professional and well-established and professional aesthetic to my product, so I used YouTube in order to learn new skills, such as how to create a silhouette from an image I took. • Adding text to images was another area of improvement, for example I learnt how to position and format large amount of text to fit into the conventional 3 column format.
  • 6. ADOBE INDESIGN • This was the programme which I used for the creation of my school magazine which I found very difficult to use at first, This is because I had never used the programme and had to learn from scratch. • In order to learn how to use it, I asked peers and used tutorials from YouTube which were both equally helpful. • Click here in order to see the tutorial I used and the link via my blog.
  • 7. PHOTOGRAPHY: • Before this task, I had limited experience of photography, except for regular images which I took on my iPhone 7 camera. I had never formally set up a posed photoshoot using a professional camera. I took some test shots outside before the shoot to practice and get used to using the camera, as well as to take the time to work out the best mode to use depending on the situation and location. • I further developed my photography skills when taking the actual images I was going to use due to me learning that in order to achieve a studio effect, I would need bright diffused lighting. In order to achieve this I used reflectors and umbrella lights.
  • 8. FOCUS GROUP AND PHOTOGRAPHY • I asked members of my focus group who I researched for any assistance in what sort of images they would like to see in my magazine. • Sam, who was part of my focus group, gave me advice on snapchat. This also uses social networking which shows what a huge part of everyday life digital technology is for my target audience.
