For the preliminary task, the filmmakers used an iPhone to record footage which lacked the quality of a DSLR camera. They had little experience with the editing software and did not properly plan the location, lighting, or sound. For the final piece, they obtained a professional DSLR camera and had more experience with the editing software. They better planned the locations, lighting, and recorded sound properly. They also had a stronger understanding of film rules to incorporate them effectively.

2. Task Preliminary Task
Camera
In the preliminary task we used an iPhone 5s to record the footage,
though this does have many different features to use it still isn’t as
effective as a real DSLR for getting real good quality footage.
Software
Once we had filmed the footage for the preliminary we had to use the
software called Final Cut Pro to edit it and put the shots together. We
had never been shown this footage before so everything was quite new
to nearly everybody; this made it harder to do the job properly.
Location
We didn’t even think about the location before we recorded the
preliminary, all we did was find a nice quiet spot and recorded a few line
of dialogue and that’s it.
We didn’t consider the lighting within the location so at times it was
harder to see the person speaking.
Sound
In terms of the sound within the preliminary task we didn’t use any
background music in order to make it better or give it a better feel. Also
the dialogue wasn’t recorded in post-production which meant that
some of it was really hard to hear and understand throughout.
Film Rules
As I have said we didn’t really know what these film rules were which
made it difficult to incorporate into the sequence, also we wasn’t able
to plan when or where they were to be placed.

3. Task Final Piece
Camera
In the final piece we were able to obtain proper Nikon DSLR camera for
the recording of every shot. This had a wide variety of different features
that allowed us to maximise the quality of the footage shot.
In comparison to the footage shot within the preliminary these shots
were inevitably much better quality.
Software
When it came to editing the footage for our opening sequence we had
much more experience and confidence when using the software as we’d
had previous experiences using it, with the preliminary task and other
small tasks me and my group carried out for practice.
Location
For our final piece we had a lot of time to plan out where and when it
was going to be filmed, we were able to use more than just one location
because of this.
We were able to take much more of the location into consideration like
the lighting, the level of noise surrounding the location and most of all
the accessibility.
Sound
In the final piece we recorded all of the sound at the time of recording
and realised some of it was hard to hear so some we kept and other bits
we re-recorded in post-production.
This is called Foley and this made the dialogue or sounds much easier to
hear and understand for the viewer.
Film Rules
When we began to record for the final piece we had a much more
extensive experience and knowledge of the film rules which made it
much easier for us to identify them, incorporate them and use them
effectively within our opening sequence.
