Learn Technologies Media Project
1. EVALUATION QUESTION 6
What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of
constructing this project?
2. INTRODUCTION
• The different technologies that we used throughout our media opening
sequence were very useful and fairly easy to use. We had several issues with
software when editing our content and also realized how important the
sound is in a film and how much time and effort goes into the production
and creations of the different sounds you need as well as editing the video
and getting that right.
3. CAMERA
• For the construction of our media project we used several camera to get
different shots and angles of what we needed to film. At the start of the
opening sequence we used a Nikon Coolpix as it had a tripod mount so we
could sit it in a secure position to get all the shots of the police station. We
also had various problems with the camera because it lost its charge now
and then so I had to bring a battery backup to be able to continue filming
at times. The other cameras we used were the Go Pro Hero 3 and Hero 4.
When filming the car scene with the camera mounted to the side of the van
I had a suction cup mount and placed it on the side of the van and
wirelessly controlled the filming of the camera from my iPhone via the GoPro
App. We used the Go Pro Hero 4 to get wide angle shots for the final scene.
We decided to use this because we could but the camera in a high point
and know that it will get all of the shot that we wanted.
4. SOFTWARE
• We used several different pieces of software when we made our opening
sequence which consisted of Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X and some
GoPro Software. We also decided it would be better to edit our opening
sequence on mine and Joe’s laptops instead of using the computers
provided by school. The software we could of used was Serif Movieplus X6
but we didn’t use this because we wanted the quality of our video to be
better and add different affects that couldn't’t be used in Serif but could be
in Final Cut. We also encountered problems activating software as Premiere
Pro constantly played up but thankfully we could convert our opening
sequence into Final Cut Pro an finish it. Before making our opening sequence
we did research into different software we could use and Joe and I have
had no experience with Final Cut or Premiere Pro so we learnt from the
bottom.
5. BLOGGER
• For Posting, Editing and uploading content for our media we used a website
called blogger. I enjoyed working with blogger because I have previous
experience building websites and using blogger. There are other websites
that we could of used but I found that blogger was the easiest to use and
setup so I stuck with it. We had to create a Gmail account in order to log
into blogger and you could make more than one Blog site with a Gmail
address which I found useful. When uploading our media content we found
difficult as blogger doesn’t allow you to upload a file any larger than 100mb
and as our opening sequence was in its best quality it was over 1gb. To fix
this issue we had to upload directly to YouTube then have an external link
from YouTube to Blogger.
6. SOUND
• Sound plays a very important part when creating a movie and it is very
difficult to construct a opening sequence without any sound. Throughout our
media opening sequence we had to import external sounds in order to give
the effect of realism in parts of our scenes. We were able to find different
soundtracks that could go into our opening sequence but many of them
were to dramatic for what we were trying to do or the beats and parts of the
music were out of time. For sound effects, for example the table falling over,
we also had to import sounds as we struggle with time and trying to recreate
this sounds for the scene as they were happening there an then. YouTube
played a big part in sound because we were able to find most of the sounds
on there.
