Hobbs and Shaw
The film I have chosen is the newest fast and the furious – Hobbs and Shaw. The cast of this movie included
Dwayne Johnson who played Luke Hobbs. Other actors such as Jason Statham who played Deckard Shaw. The
movie also starred people such as Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzales, Idris Elba, Cliff Kurtis and Ellen Mirren. This movie
had companies involved such as universal, this company had helped with the distribution of the movie and it is
also owned by Comcast which is a conglomerate, this also means that the movie will have a bigger budget and
means that people will watch the movie because it is a Universal film. Hobbs and Shaw also had an estimated
budget of 200 Million. The director of the movie was David Leitch who is a well known director and is known for
directing other movies such as Deadpool and also John Wick which are very successful movies. The genre of
Hobbs and Shaw is a Mystery/Action which opens up to a wider target audience because fans of action movies
will want to watch the movie as well as fans of mystery type films. Hobbs and Shaw was given a 12a age rating
which again reaches a wider target audience because kids will see it with their family and also adults and long
term fans of the fast and furious franchise will watch it. The target audience for the Hobbs and Shaw movie was
mainly directed towards teens and long term fans of the franchise. A survey which was made after the release of
Hobbs and Shaw shows that 29% of the audience were men over 25 and 28% was women over 25 leaving the
remaining 43% being people under 25. The movie had also went on to make 758.9 million dollars in the box
office which is over 500 million dollars profit from the estimated 200 million dollar budget.
Purpose of a marketing
campaign
The purpose of a marketing campaign is to raise awareness for the product this being the movie. The
campaign for the Hobbs and Shaw movie was set up by the production of posters which where displayed
mainly around city centres outside cinemas and also on the sides of busses. This is good because it means that
a lot of people will see them and may be influenced to watch the movie from looking at the posters. The
posters which were created to promote the movie where also very effective which was shown in the amount of
money which the movie made in box office
A campaign is important because it builds up excitement about the release of a movie and especially with Fast
and furious being an already big and established name in the movie industry so people will be more excited to
see it when it gets released. A marketing campaign is also planned out strategically this is so that it can build
up ”Hype” for the audience around the upcoming movie. The campaign will also usually include cross platform
marketing

Genre: Hobbs and Shaw is an action movie
The movie was marketed mainly through the big stars who were in the movie for example Dwayne
Johnson who is a huge star and has stared in multiple past fast and the furious movies he also has a
huge social media page for example his Instagram account has over 162 million followers. One of the
other main stars n the movie is Jason Statham how has over 24 million followers on his Instagram. Both
of these stars have huge social media followings and are very well known in the movie industry this is a
very useful way to market the movie due because they can advertise the movie on the social media
pages which millions of people will see the posters on their social media pages.

These different products which where used to promote the movie Hobbs and Shaw are effective because they all use the same font
throughout all 3 of the products which show the they are all promoting the same product. Each product also has the same title of
the movie throughout which shows again that they are promoting the same movie. The Instagram which is promoting the movie
also has posts on the page which features the same colour text which has been used throughout the other products as well as this.
The posts which have been uploaded onto the Instagram page seem to have a garage door in the background which is symbolic of
the fast and the furious movies as the poster and dvd cover you can see cars in the background this creates a link between the other
products and helps the audience know that they are all promoting the same product. Each of these marketing products use the
same fonts on all of these products. These products also use the same characters on the posters and also on the dvd cover this is
used to show the main characters in the movie and also so that the audience know who is acting in the movie (Dwayne Johnson and
Jason Statham)
Analysis
The poster uses Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as the
main image to attract the audience because they are both
very well known actors and have huge social media
which would attract the audience to see the movie because
they are starring in it. The poster also shows a road with one
side of the road having Jason Statham and a image of big
in the background to represent the country which he is from
and the other side with Dwayne Johnson on and a image of
Malibu beach in the background which represents the
where Dwayne Johnson is from. The poster also uses the
text which has been used in other promotional products for
this film which keeps the poster clean and simple. At the top
of the poster it has the names of the stars who appear in the
poster which could appeal more to the audience
Conclusion
Overall I think that the Hobbs and Shaw marketing campaign was fairly successful. This is because the budget of
the movie was 200 million dollars and when the movie was released in box office it had went on to make almost
759 million this shows that the marketing was clearly successful due to the 500+ million dollar profit which the
movie made in box office.
However the marketing of the movie was not up to the standards of movies such as Avengers, The lion
king and star wars rise of the sky walker. Research also shows that Hobbs and Shaw was the 13 highest grossing
movie of 2019 which shows that the marketing could have been better and also a larger amount of marketing
could have been done to reach a wider audience. I also went onto review sites such as ”IMBD” and Rotten
Tomatoes” to find out the reviews given about the movie with Imbd giving the movie a 5.5 rating and rotten
tomatoes getting a audience review of 88%. The movie could have also been marketed a lot more as people
didn't’t see as much marketing on social media compared to movies such as the joker which was advertised
nearly everywhere.

Hobbs and Shaw was given a 12a age rating which again reaches a wider target audience because kids will see it with their family and also adults and long term fans of the fast and furious franchise will watch it. The target audience for the Hobbs and Shaw movie was mainly directed towards teens and long term fans of the franchise. A survey which was made after the release of Hobbs and Shaw shows that 29% of the audience were men over 25 and 28% was women over 25 leaving the remaining 43% being people under 25. The movie had also went on to make 758.9 million dollars in the box office which is over 500 million dollars profit from the estimated 200 million dollar budget.

The posters which were created to promote the movie where also very effective which was shown in the amount of money which the movie made in box office A campaign is important because it builds up excitement about the release of a movie and especially with Fast and furious being an already big and established name in the movie industry so people will be more excited to see it when it gets released. A marketing campaign is also planned out strategically this is so that it can build up ”Hype” for the audience around the upcoming movie. These different products which where used to promote the movie Hobbs and Shaw are effective because they all use the same font throughout all 3 of the products which show the they are all promoting the same product. Each product also has the same title of the movie throughout which shows again that they are promoting the same movie. The Instagram which is promoting the movie also has posts on the page which features the same colour text which has been used throughout the other products as well as this. The posts which have been uploaded onto the Instagram page seem to have a garage door in the background which is symbolic of the fast and the furious movies as the poster and dvd cover you can see cars in the background this creates a link between the other products and helps the audience know that they are all promoting the same product. Each of these marketing products use the same fonts on all of these products. These products also use the same characters on the posters and also on the dvd cover this is used to show the main characters in the movie and also so that the audience know who is acting in the movie (Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham)

The poster also shows a road with one side of the road having Jason Statham and a image of big in the background to represent the country which he is from and the other side with Dwayne Johnson on and a image of Malibu beach in the background which represents the where Dwayne Johnson is from. The poster also uses the text which has been used in other promotional products for this film which keeps the poster clean and simple. At the top of the poster it has the names of the stars who appear in the poster which could appeal more to the audience
  • 9. Conclusion Overall I think that the Hobbs and Shaw marketing campaign was fairly successful. This is because the budget of the movie was 200 million dollars and when the movie was released in box office it had went on to make almost 759 million this shows that the marketing was clearly successful due to the 500+ million dollar profit which the movie made in box office. However the marketing of the movie was not up to the standards of movies such as Avengers, The lion king and star wars rise of the sky walker. Research also shows that Hobbs and Shaw was the 13 highest grossing movie of 2019 which shows that the marketing could have been better and also a larger amount of marketing could have been done to reach a wider audience. I also went onto review sites such as ”IMBD” and Rotten Tomatoes” to find out the reviews given about the movie with Imbd giving the movie a 5.5 rating and rotten tomatoes getting a audience review of 88%. The movie could have also been marketed a lot more as people didn't’t see as much marketing on social media compared to movies such as the joker which was advertised nearly everywhere.
