This document describes a project to generate electricity from speed breakers. The objective is to produce electricity at a very low cost by capturing the kinetic energy of vehicles passing over the speed breakers. A rack-pinion mechanism is used to convert the vertical motion of the vehicles into rotational motion, which is then converted to electricity using a generator. While the initial experiments generated only a small amount of electricity, the students successfully demonstrated the concept. With further refinement of the design and mechanism, speed breakers could potentially be used to generate meaningful amounts of electricity from vehicle traffic.
