Instant SMS: Bringing SMS to the next phase and increasing service revenuesRaúl Castañón Martínez
This presentation aims to share our analysis of recent developments for Mobile Instant Messaging services and the opportunities for both Instant SMS and Mobile Portal IM service for operators in Latin America. This is from a conference I delivered at the IBC Mobile Messaging & VAS Americas 2007.
Wi-Fi for a Connected World Towards Next Generation NetworksGreen Packet
Wi-Fi has established itself as one of the most popular and widespread technology today reaching millions of homes, schools, enterprises and hotspot locations worldwide. Communication has become an essential part of our lives. The ever-growing Wi-Fi networks combined with integrated Wi-Fi chipsets into thousands of devices has matured and ensured that hundreds of millions of users worldwide now make regular use of Wi-Fi to access the Internet.
The following white paper, discusses the Wi-Fi effects of connectedness shifting from people to people into the connecting a billion of devices. Today’s network consists of multiple access network technologies playing a different role in different contexts. In the race to smart next generation networks, secondary markets in embedded mobile is beginning to garner attention with greater ambitions into tertiary markets of cloud-based solutions, where anything and almost everything will be connected, regardless of geographical boundaries with the ultimate aim of cost effective development and implementation.
How can communications service providers win the battle for customer loyalty against OTT players? How can service providers leverage their competitive advantage? How can they leverage the Cloud? During a Futurecom presentation GENBAND’s Senior Director of Applications Solutions Marketing, Sara Hughes, discussed how cloud-based mobile apps and unified communications can help service providers effectively compete with OTT players, improve customer stickiness and increase revenues.
Sara Hughes is the Senior Director of Applications Solutions Marketing at GENBAND. Sara has over 20+ years of telecommunications experience as a customer, service provider and manufacturer with extensive experience in marketing, product management, technical support, customer training and go to market consulting, delivering enhanced next generation IP / Unified Communications applications and IMS services to many of the world's largest operators and enterprises. Sara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration specializing in Marketing and Information Systems. Sara joined GENBAND in 2010 after working for BroadSoft, Movius Interactive, Tekelec, VocalData, Global Knowledge and GTE Customer Networks.
Social networking and the next generation of handheld devices will improve business decision-making through efficient, unified communications and location awareness.
Wi-Fi Driving Mobile Internet Explosion in Next Generation NetworksGreen Packet
The proliferation of Wi-Fi enabled devices and growth in Wi-Fi hotspot deployment is predicted to rise 350% by 2015 and it is necessary for operators to innovate quickly to an ecosystem of scalable, integrated, efficient network to drive customers experience; offload busy mobile broadband networks; and provide a value-added services platform.
Operators are turning customer centric strategies to pragmatic practice. Universally, operators have expressed strong interest to derive revenues beyond connectivity. The vision of broadband has allowed juggling a mix between cost, revenue, intelligence and performance. In this paper, the study of Wi-Fi explores the potential of new generation of services, connected devices value chain and growth opportunities from emerging embedded systems that is worthwhile investing strategically.
Shift of connectedness is key component in bringing new services to market, closing the gap on disparate radio technologies onto integrated delivery platform for smart monetization of new service models and simplifying the Wi-Fi experience altogether.
I presented at a recent sales conference for a large security / IT solution provider on the evolution of the telco industry and the role security and protection plays in that evolution.
In summary: customer data, trust, security and protection are critical for operators to get right in this emerging environment.
Operators need an integrated security and protection layer, not point solutions for each service as is the case today. Protection from malware across all network services e.g. IP, SMS, MMS, WAP push, widgets, apps, etc. Protection in the network, in devices and in services.
SDP vendors need integrated security solution across network, services and end-points, which means a partnership with security / IT providers is key. Its a rapidly growing problem as its a highly profitable and more importantly safe criminal business compared to drugs smuggling or prostitution; hence a specialist security/protection partner is essential.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
