This is a weekly update on round 4, week 2. It talks about what we have done so far this week.
This will be our last weekly presentation of the school year.
3. plate scanner
The plate scanner is very close to
being finished. The hardware of
the plate scanner is complete. The
code is mostly done. We are now
able to control the plate scanner
with buttons and all we need is the
measurements from the
microscope. The microscope
situation is still being figured out.
We are trying to disassemble our
digital microscope in order to
apply it to our plate scanner.

4. END OF THE YEAR
POSTERS
1. Poster on tardigrades (science)
2. Poster on plate scanner and
tardigrade Earth habitat
(engineering)
3. Poster on crowdfunding of plate
scanner (business)
All the posters are now finished and
posted onto SlideShare. The links were
also posted on our Twitter account:

5. Tardigrade ISS Design
We have created a sketched out design of the
tardigrade ISS habitat that we will be
building over the summer. The design is
efficient because it requires little materials
and therefore will not take up much space or
weight. No arduinos or batteries will be
needed for the design.
Once the design is built, many tests and
revisions will need to be done in order to
make sure it is perfect and ready for a test
flight with Blue Origin and eventually the
ISS.

7. Follow-Up Proposal
The draft of the proposal is finished.
We might revise the proposal if we feel
that we might need something else for
building our ISS habitat.
Once the proposals
are good to go, they
will be sent out to
all our potential
funders and to
people supporting
our project (such
as Dr. Birgit, Dr.
Lowman, Dr.
Miller, Steve Heck,
etc.)

8. Budget
This week we only bought a new
colony of tardigrades and a USB A
Male to B Male cable.
Items bought:
- Water Bears ($35.38)
- 6ft USB A Male to B Male cable
($11.48)
8Current balance = $400.11
9. Tardigrades
We got our new shipment of tardigrades from
Carolina.com.
The culture was observed under our microscope, we
we found live, healthy tardigrades.
However, because the digital microscope is still
being taken apart, we don’t have photos of the new
water bears.

10. Summer Plans…
M.B.T.S. will continue to work over the summer. 2017’s summer work will consist
of:
- Completely finish the plate scanner
- Working on building the ISS tardigrade habitat
- Crowdfunding
- Creating a plan for 2017-18 school year

11. Christina - 9 (We were able to finish most of what we set out to do this round.
We had a pretty successful week and got most of the plate scanner done. The
presentation of our project also went well. I was able to get the draft proposal
done.)
Remy - 9 (We got a lot of work done, we were able to finish most of the plate
scanner and the posters.)
Mark - 9 (We built the plate scanner.)
Jake - 9 (We did a good job and I feel that we got a lot done.)
Drew - 9 (We were able to get a lot of work done this week. I think we ended
