This is the weekly update of MBTS round 4, week 1. This whole week was focused on 3D designing and printing.

3. Between blocks 3 and 4…..
The M.B.T.S. team visited the Buck institute.
We got a tour from Dr. Birgit and got 7 new
samples of tardigrades. The tardigrades are
now under Drew’s care and he will be mainly
responsible for running the tardigrade
environment experiment.

4. Tardigrades
The tardigrades are alive.
We have started a tracking/log
chart to take note of the water
bears’ progress.

the new, revised design (where
the microscope stand only had 2
legs).

7. This week’s work on the plate scanner...
This week we focused on designing and printing all of the design’s parts. Next
week is when we will focus on putting everything together.

9. How we feel about this week….
Christina - 9 - This was a pretty good week. Most of the time, everyone had a job to do. We got most of the
design work done and I think everyone had a fun time this week. I’m also really happy that the tardigrades are
alive.
Justin - 9 - This week, I finished everything that I needed to do, but the team didn’t get an overwhelming amount
of work done. If we want this to improve, we should make sure to be precise in our 3D printing operations so that
we don’t waste time and filament.
Drew - 9.09- This week we did a lot of 3D printing. We needed to reprint one item around 9 times, which slowed
us down. I started an experiment with the tards, adding distilled water to one of the plates. I hope that we can
finish the plate scanner.
Holger - 9 - We got more designing/printing done this week than any other block. Also, I have gotten more
comfortable with using Autodesk Inventor. We did however have a lot of problems with one particular design that
we had to reprint around 9 times, which slowed us down.
Sean - 9 - This was a good week. We got more designing/printing done this week than any other block We did
have issue with a design that had to be printed 9 times.
