Under her directions, all executives were pushed to challenge all comers and scrapped the
posture in which queries were often dismissed with a flat no comment response. She was quick

No doubt she is a successful professional and a powerful woman who has created some enemies

The Concept of Personal Identity
Personal Identity in philosophy refers to a person s self perception, ones belief about who they
are and how they differ form others. Locke and Hume both share their ideas about Personal
identity and although they might both drastically differ they are still both puzzling. Locke s
theory on personal identity has to do with what make a person the same person over time, and to
Locke remaining the same person doesn t necessarily mean remaining the same physically. For,
since consciousness always accompanies thinking, and it is that which makes every one to be
what he calls self, and thereby distinguishes himself from all other thinking things, in this alone
consists personal identity (53). He believes that personal identity and consciousness go hand in
hand, he thinks personal identity is conceived through ones awareness of current thoughts and
actions. You are who you are because of your thoughts and memories. Locke believes that the only
accommodation that should be encountered in order for a person to still have their identity is the
awareness of past experiences. They must be able to remember there past experiences in order for
them to preserve their identity. Locke discusses the possibility of two forms having the same
consciousness. He claims that these two forms, because they have the same memories, experiences,
and consciousness must be the same person. Locke s is trying to tell us that a person can indeed
inhabit two different men. An objection to Locke s view

There Isn t Any Chicano Essay by
As I enter the museum, I saw huge white walls, which made up the whole museum. I thought it
was quite elegant looking and incredible because of the color of the museum, white. Not to
mention, it is located in the mountains of Los Angeles with a gorgeous view and awesome
location. But I couldn t help but notice that there isn t any Chicana/o are pieces at all. Why aren t
there any art pieces that have to do with Chicana/o? Especially since the museum gets a lot of
tourists from around the world, including people from Mexico and people from the Spanish
culture. Why are they being excluded from the art works? Don t the artist have the right to be

The Chicana/o art has been in this country for years but yet no recognitions of the art pieces in

the Getty. The impression that the museum is leaving is that there is no room for Chicana/o art
and no need to explore the cultures that they have to offer. This is sort of a reason why I didn t
feel as comfortable because there wasn t any work that I could relate to or feel excited to see.
Whereas the art exhibition that took place in East Los Angeles made me feel comfortable

William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was one of the most influential figures in civil rights history,
but even outside of civil rights he was a loving and caring man, He started the activist Niagara

of history, sociology, and economics at Atlanta University. Du Bois made significant contributions

to direct his studies toward history and the social sciences. At his Harvard commencement in
1890, he was one of five students selected to deliver an address. Du Bois s speech on Confederate

Cain Was The Firstborn Of Adam And Eve Essay
Cain was the firstborn of Adam and Eve. In him were deposited all the desires of restoration of
the original state of the man and mainly of the state of intimate communion with God the all
powerful. Therefore, Cain shows himself to be a person who did not please God with his
offerings, because his motivation was different from the motivation of his brother Abel, as he
sought to present the best of his flock to the Lord as we can see at Genesis 4:3 5 And in process
of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had
respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And
Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell . It happened at the end of a time Cain brought
from the fruit of the earth an offering to the Lord; Abel, for his part, brought of the firstfruits of
his flock and the fat thereof. The Lord of Abel and his offering were pleased; While Cain and his
offering were not pleased. It is understood that Cain would have offered an offer thankfully and not
voluntarily as was the case of Abel. This form of offering of Cain displeased the Lord, who came to
pay attention to Abel s offering. Writing about the punishment God applied to Cain, which was
intended to lead him to repentance, shows how much his heart was blacked out by sin and rebellion
against the Creator. But nevertheless punishment

Legalize Marijuana Essay
Cannabis sativa or Marijuana as is commonly known worldwide is a hard drug with adverse side
effects to the users. With this reason it is an illegal drug in a majority of parts in the world.
However according to research statistics, with this illegality there is still a high rise of both users
as well as those initiated into the practice annually with the United Nations placing it first among
the illicit substances widely used in the world (UNODC 198). Having worked previously in a
number of facilities for juvenile delinquency and correction in California I observed and

It is also widely used for medicinal purposes as prevention for nausea and vomiting and hunger
stimulation in patients undergoing chemotherapy and those suffering from AIDs among others. Its
long term effects on the other hand include a change in brain operation and disruptions in fertility.
Numerous articles have thus been written with the debate whether the use of marijuana should be
made legal or not.
Most laws have therefore been put in place to prevent the planting, possession and transfer of
Marijuana in relation to these and more effects of the drug. However, laws in some countries
have been reviewed with regards to the possession of low amounts of Marijuana. Although this is
a great step, it still does not provide a full solution in reducing excess consumption of the drug.
This is because most young people who indulge in excessive use of the drug do so as an
experiment to get the good feeling of being on the other side of the law. To prevent this, it would be
appropriate to legalize the use of the drug without restrictions. This would result in the moderate use
if not the total abandonment of the drug when not necessary.
There are numbers of instances when the drug use is fully permitted and protected by the law
such as in its use for medicinal purposes in the treatment of severe chronic pain. This group of
people is allowed to grow their own cannabis, employ someone else to do it for them or form
groups where they

Analysis Of The Book The Secret Life Of Bees
Reading Response Kaitlyn Baker
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
The biggest pull factor that brought me to reading The Secret Life of Bees, is the fact that it is set
in a time when racial separation was very much still alive in America. So when I began my journey
on reading the novel, it was quickly clear that I was going to thoroughly enjoy it. The story follows
a young white girl, Lily, whose life revolves around unravelling the faded memory of her killing her
mother, and her new life with her abusive father. It is the story of Lily blossoming into
adolescence, in a time where racial separation is still a big issue. Lily s journey to find
something, anything, about her mother s death is something I think is a large part of why this
novel is so mesmerizing to read. Lily s loyalty of trying to piece it together makes this story
moving, but not depressing. I think it is uplifting, full of heart, inspiring, and warm. I think
Kidd, the author, has perfectly captured the awkward restlessness of a teenager, longing for
love, yearning to discover, but at the same time fearful of what truth could emerge. Seeing Lily s
almost desperate longing for any kind of a mother figure is something that truly broke my heart.
It made me think about how I am so blessed in my life to have such a strong mother figure, and I
hope no one has to go through life without some kind of motherly guidance. I often got the feeling
of Lily s deep desire for nurturance, which can be owed to the

to the target audience. When one considers that the average broadband user spends 48% of their
leisure time online (Watershed Publishing, 2007), the rationale for investing additional funds on
Internet advertising spending becomes obvious.
Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems have assisted many product oriented
corporations. Real time access to these systems will be provided to sales, marketing and
management personnel as needed. The ability to inform an automated manufacturing process of an
order will not only expedite the order, but provide valuable information for the re ordering of
production materials.
Customer feedback is probably one of the best tools to judge the performance of an organization.
To facilitate this process, customized online forms will be provided. Additionally, personal data
assistants (PDA) will have access to these forms and will allow field sales and marketing
representatives to enter data while at the client location. Management personnel, armed with
another tool will be able to make more informed decisions.
There is nothing more frustrating for a sales representative than to wait for the daily morning

The Drug Development And Approval Process
As mentioned in class, as well as in the Krishna (2008) article, the drug development and approval
process is an extensive and costly endeavor. The goal of experimental medicine is to increase the
efficiency of drug development by providing a better understanding of the drug s mechanism(s) of
action, dose response, efficacy, and safety, allowing the process to be accelerated for the most
promising and efficacious candidates (Krishna, Herman, Wagner, 2008). Preclinical testing begins
with identifying the ideal drug target. The target should be disease modifying and/or have a proven
function in the pathophysiology of the disease. Target expression should not be uniformly
distributed throughout the body. There should also be a favorable IP condition allowing the drug
freedom to operate without competition. If the druggability is not obvious, a 3D structure for the
target protein or a close homologue should be available for assessment. The target should also have
favorable assayability enabling high throughput screening. To identify these targets there are many
strategies that can be utilized such as: genomic analysis (phenotype analysis, genetic association,
gene expression profiling, etc.), pathway analysis, and activity based proteomic profiling (Frank
Hargreaves, 2003; Lipsky Sharp, 2001; Krishna, Herman, Wagner, 2008). After conducting
extensive animal studies in the laboratory and assessing the safety and biological activity of the

Summary Of Rethinking The Wild By Christopher Solomon Essay
Humanity co exists with nature in a relationship that periodically shifts between symbiotic and
parasitic. We maintain this relationship in order to survive. In exchange, we carefully monitor how
our behavior alters the natural environment and affects those living within it. This responsibility is
the price we pay for our species sentience and dominance. To help fulfill our duty, America
established the 1954 WildernessAct in hopes of becoming passive guardians of natureinstead of
encroaching gardeners. However, the Wilderness Act has failed. In his article, Rethinking the Wild ,
Christopher Solomon questions the effectiveness of the law and correctly concludes that, after fifty
years of dormancy, mankind must take an active role in environmental protection, the role of the
gardener. Though critics may argue that the passivity of the guardian should be maintained,
realistically, little can be done to preserve the environment when we refuse to do anything. Because
mankind has a greater stake in the wilderness than we realize, we must assume a proactive role in
protecting the wilderness out of respect for nature and our own ethical standards.
Boundaries and Investments
Assume for the sake of our argument that nature holds no intrinsic value. Why, then, is the
wilderness worth protecting? Truthfully, the wilderness can be a valuable indicator of the planet s
overall health, which is not easily gauged in industrialized and populated areas due to human
influence. For

I Heard A Fly Buzz Essay
Have you ever lost someone in your life who was extremely important to you? Did you feel like
once the grieving was over the world continued to move on? In the poem [I heard a fly buzz] by
Emily Dickinson, Dickinson ponders the topic of death and the impact it has on its
surroundings. The poem takes place from beyond the grave in which the narrator is in a silent
room interrupted by the buzzing of a fly: I heard a fly buzz/when I died (Line 1). Many people
are in the room mourning over the loss of the dead person: The Eyes around had wrung them dry

The Wiz Play Analysis
In December, I watched the televised play of The Wiz, that aired on NBC. While I have mixed
emotions about this play, itself, I have a better appreciation and understanding about how a play
should be presented now that I have researched the history of american musical theatre, and that is
unity of the story being told, thru song, dance, and performance.
American Musical Theatre is a form of art that tells a story through songs, dialogue, acting and
dance. The different types of musicals includes ballad opera, operetta, musical comedy, straight

Righteousness In The Conflict Between Job And Job
Job was a righteous man who feared God and upheld divine standards. He abounded in gifts of
mercy and acts of godly devotion. Job routinely offered sacrifices to atone for his children s sins.
Hence, God was quite pleased to observe as his servant maintained integrity in his dealing. The
Almighty spoke about Job s godly devotion to Satanthe Devil. In fact, Satan claimed that Job was
primarily concerned with selfish interests. God decided to allow Satan to bring trials upon Job to
test the patriarch s motives. In this essay, I will highlight the significance of righteousness in the
debates between Job and his friends.
Job s debate with his friends was precipitated by the former s determination to uphold righteous
standards. Notably, Job experienced tremendous tribulations due to Satan s efforts. His 10 children
died while his livestock was killed. Job s servants also died under mysterious circumstances.
Unfortunately, his wife deserted and mocked him for his faith in God. In fact, she taunted him to
curse God and died. Nevertheless, these events could not break Job s integrity. Satan was
determined to intensify his physical attacks on Job. Job was struck with a debilitating illness that
subjected him to constant pain. Members of the community also shunned him. Later, three friends
of Job came to visit him. However, they did not say anything to Job for three day.
Job s friends claimed that he was suffering due to secret sins. Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar were

Politics In The God Of Small Things By Arundhati Roy
The God of Small Things may be seen through another perspective of a political story in the sense
that politics intervenes in the basic social issues. One of the major social issues is centrally
concerned with the untouchables. Compulsions transcend the limits of party, ideology. These
leaders act as any, other leader would irrespective of party. In it, Roy engages with the political
legacy of communismin Kerala. Her satirical portrayal of E.M.S. Namboodiripad, the first Chief
Minister and his party followers created many controversies. The novel is about politics. Through
its various agencies, this politics exercises decisive influence over the lives of the people of
Ayemenem.
Unlike other writers such as Mulk Raj Anand, Arundhati Roy presents politics as a very complex
force. It is operative at different levels. This politics begins with home. This is manipulated by
different people for different ends. The novel portrays the forces of power working in alliance in
the novel.
Apart from the political criticism, a humanistic reading of the text reveals the social bias around
the social politics, i.e. caste system. It bares the sad plight of the lower caste, even in the political
system supported by the proletarian values. What Roy implies is that the Marxist party in Kerala
worked from within the communal divides, never challenging them. Velutha is a member of the
party. Yet he does not get help from the party leader Comrade Pilliai. Pilliai s double standard

The Science behind War
The science behind War As we all know war has been amongst us since time ever began. It has
been around when the first creatures were developed and learned how to survive. And as humans
evolved over the centuries, we came to realize this theory we call war is actually a natural thing.
And we then classified it as violenceor as the survival of the fittest. And now in modern thinking
and technology, we are now able to find how the human mind came up with an idea such as
violence. How humans first used violence for survival then it turned into strategies then from there
came with the inventions of weapons. Firstly what is violence that causes things as war? Violence
comes in the amydola, a part in the brain that deals with emotions. It is what gives you the urge
to do something in that quarter of a second between the event and the response. This at the same
time causes increases blood flow to the frontal lobe, that part of the brain is over the left eye, this

Romeo And Juliet 1968 And 1996
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet , is the most well known classical piece of sentimental
literature in the world. Throughout the years, it has been adapted into films by directors from an
extensive range of dialect backgrounds. Among those, Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 version and the
modern version directed by Baz Luhrmann in 1996, are both unquestionably the most successful
and popular variations. Roger Ebert, quoted Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 film version of Romeo and
Juliet stating The success of the film depends upon Whiting and Miss Hussey...They are
magnificent . The leading actors incorporate Leonard Whiting in the role of Romeo, and Olivia
Hussey essentially as Juliet. Peter Travers, quoted Baz Luhrmann s 1996 film version of Romeo

The 1968 adaptation, used reassuring and dignified music to give the viewer a sense of

Kissing You was a tune by British vocalist Des ree and composed by Timothy Atack, for Baz

Luhrmann s movies, are what sustained the mood for particular scenes. Within the 1968 form, the
selection of costumes were exceptionally customary and traditional. However, within the 1996 form
the costumes had aroused a sensation of interest to the audiences. For Baz Luhrmann s 1996 film,
Romeo and Juliet s costumes were thoroughly picked and have symbolic implications to them.

History of Valve Software Essay
The History of Valve Software The story of Valve Software is a story of two men with a dream.
Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington joined with Microsoft in the early days of the company
designing the earliest Windows operating systems, and after thirteen years with them had become
what were known as Microsoft Millionaires. Both men enjoyed playing video games and inspired
by a friend who left Microsoft to join game development studio ID Software, they decided to leave
their lucrative positions at Microsoft to start their own dream company, the company they had
always wanted to work for. The two men who had only had experience creating operating system

The first game Valve began development of was called Half Life, a first person action shooter with
a science fiction theme. However, development did not go as well as was hoped. Valve had
trouble finding a publisher to distribute their games. Considering they were just a couple of guys
chasing a dream, publishers were not willing to take the risk on a fledgling developer.
Fortunately for Valve, publisher Sierra Online was shopping around for a first person action
game and was impressed with the team at Valve. They signed on with Valve to a one game deal.
With a publisher willing to distribute their games, Valve was ready to reveal their game at the
largest gaming convention in the world, The Electronic Entertainment Expo(E3) in 1997. The
showing of Half Life was a big success among gaming fans and critics alike. The buzz generated
at the show almost guaranteed the success of the product. However, by November of 1997, the
deadline was quickly approaching and the team at Valve was not satisfied with the product they
had created. In their year of work on Half Life they had learned so much that had not been
implemented into the game. Newell and Harrington took a huge risk by deciding it would be best
to scrap almost their entire year s worth of work to go back and implement many of the new things
they had learned. Their publisher, Sierra, was furious and this nearly ended the partnership between
them. Newell and Harrington dug deep into their own

Canoeing Short Story
One day I asked my dad to go canoeing. I had never gone canoeing before but I was trying new
things and canoeing sounded intriguing. My dad told me he hadn t been canoeing for over 47
years. I asked him why and he suddenly got quiet like he was trying to think of something to say.
Eventually he just said he didn t like it anymore. I thought that was the end of the story because
we never did go canoeing that day. A few days later my dad came up to me and said there was
something he wanted to tell me. He seemed off edge and had been acting unusual the last couple
of days. Eventually, he spoke up and said that he would go canoeing with me. Once we got in the
water with the canoe, me sitting in front and my dad steering in the back, he started to tell me a
story. He felt bad for not taking me sooner but he felt that I wasn t ready to hear what he was
about to tell me. It was a story he had never told anyone before, and it was quite intriguing. He
started off saying that he forgot the ending but he knew how it at least started so he decided to tell
me that at least. It went a little bit like this:
He slithered up the muddy slope, slipping on the moss and mud. Canoes parked on the edge of the
river. He had never been so scared in his life. He might ve been climbing to what would eventually
become a major injury or possibly death, but in his eyes, it was all worth it. It had been at least a
week since he last saw someone besides the group he traveled with. It was a group of 5

Dbq 1920s Imperialism
Between 1870 and 1920, the European nations took the use of imperialism due to economic,

The Pursuit Of Happiness In The Contemporary Era
The pursuit of happiness is a common zeitgeist feature that occurs across all of the humanities.
The way individuals pursue this happiness varies depending on how the time period has
influences them. This zeitgeist feature is especially apparent during the Contemporary era.
There are many advancements in the area of technology, causing one to detach from reality. The
entertainment industry allows for seriousness to be critiqued. There is a sense of paranoia
stirred up by the Cold War. The contemporary era also deals with the idea of fragmentation,
which stems into different areas of life. Each of these elements relate to one s pursuit of
happiness during the contemporary era, as well as past and future eras. Cinema in the
contemporary era symbolizes the area in which it is born because of the high dependence on
technology (Kuhns). The film 13 Conversations About One Thing provide visual evidence of
this idea the pursuit of happiness and how disconnectedness plays a role in this pursuit. In the
beginning, Troy is very confident and lives in the moment. He makes a comment about having
to earn happiness, and he says that he has indeed earned happiness. Troy considers his pursuit of
happiness to have stemmed from hard work and success. This relates back to the drive for
economic prosperity within the corporate world is from the previous era. However, after hitting

Benjamin Anastas s The Foul Reign of Self Reliance came in a quiet library at the private

To Mr. Aransas I say, what is wrong with this process? Do you have the same views and beliefs
as you did when you were a seven year old? Hell, do you hold to the same convictions as you did
when you were a college undergrad? I highly doubt it. While it may not be as radical as waking
up one morning and finding you ve shed all your old assumptions about the world, they have
changed over time. What of the successful businessman who one day awakens to find that in a
moment of clarity, his heart has softened and his greed has shifted to giving? He no longer
works towards making money for the sake of wealth, but rather making money to give to those
who need it. There are countless stories of these types of individuals. These are people who
have found a universal truth within them and found their beliefs totally flipped. Is it not
contradictory? It most certainly is, but this does not make it wrong. Where is you re argument
there Mr. Anastasia? There are two paragraphs in Benjamin s essay that I disagree with above all
others. The main one I will get to later in this essay. The first is the fifth paragraph starting, The
excessive love of individual liberty that debases our national politics? (Anastas p. 2) Individual
liberty is the crux of the entire human existence. How can we love this value too much? If any

The Background And Nature Of The Movement For National...
Garibaldi went to the USA, Austria backed out of the war therefore handing Lombardy to
Sardinia. Treaty of Zurich ends northern Italy tension. Tuscany, Modena, and Parma seek
annexation by Sardinia. Italy was scattered during the 1850s but came together in the 1860s and
70s to really become a world power. Piedmont became the unlikely unifying power of Italy. Victor
Emmanuel II was the driving force. Sardinia fought against Russia in the Crimean war and won.
Sardinia was overall different because while being small they managed to get a lot done to further
the unification of Italy.
Explain the background and nature of the movement for national unification in Italy. What role had
Mazzini played? What had happened in 1848 to the unification movement?
After the fall of Napoleon, Italy was controlled mostly by Austria and the Habsburgs. The
movement for national unification in Italy started with revolts and demanding change to the kings.
Nationalists were influenced by other people in other countries that had successfully revolted, for
example like in Spain in 1820. The Kingdom of Two Sicilies was conquered and convinced the king
to establish a new constitution. Mazzini helped with Italian unification by creating a secret society
called Young Italy. The goal of Mazzini s new group was to promote nationalism and convince
people why there should be a unified Italy. In 1848, revolutions all over Italy occurred because
nationalists did not want Austria to have control over them.

I began my search at a computer resource station, and then absorbed myself in the materials it
provided, which were biographies, criticisms, and the works of Cisneros. Initially, the computer
resource station provided me only with Cisnero s texts or simple the books she had written. They

I decided I would start with her work and then see what the critics had to say.
Her book s The House on Mango Street and Loose Woman: Poems enthralled me the most, and
gave me a sense of her genre and style. They portrayed her concentration on culture or ethninticity
and gender issues. A Stanza from her poem Loose Woman really tickled my fancy and is an
excellent representation of these two themes: They say I m macha, hell on wheels, viva la vulva,
fire and brimstone, man hating, devastating, boogey woman lesbian. Not necessarily, but I like the
compliment. ( 112)
In this poem Cisneros displays a common stereotype of women in a satirical way that is easy to
identify with, and in a sense empowers women rather than degrading them. In doing this, she keeps
her cultural heritage by using both English, and her own native language, Spanish to define her
views. She maintains this sort of style throughout her poems and pursues gender issues and cultural
identity with ferocious vitality and purpose.
Although she does not use written Spanish in The house on Mango Street, her characters are
Mexican and represent the culture in their lifestyles, views, and upbringing. The story depicts the
coming of age of a girl named Esperanza, who is searching for stability and a place for herself in
the world. Cisneros explores the life of a Mexican girl and the things that shaped her morality and
sense of

Rap Music And Its Effects On Society
Who some call the call the godfather of rap, Eazy E, once said, Who gave it that title, gangsta
rap? It s reality rap. It s about what s really going on. There has been a great injustice done to the
form of expression called rap. In essence rap is just lyrics over a basic beat or rhythm. Many
members of society today assume that rap is a dangerous and violent influence, however what
they seem to be ignorant of is the fact that rap music is actually beneficial. The majority of the
world we live in today has unjustly classified rap as a barbaric form of music, unfit for any
decent human to listen to, but the reality of the situation is, that people simply cannot accept the
culture known as rap into society. Nowadays, rappers such as Kanye, Soulja Boi, and Wiz
Khalifa are receiving much criticism about the way they portray their hoodlum lifestyle or the
way they encourage violence through their music, when in actuality they are venting about the
unfair circumstances society has forced them into. Listening to rap music and it s positive vibes
is in fact beneficial based on evidence which shows that consumption of rap music not only
assists the listener in several ways, but also aids the rapper. The form of music that we know as
rap is heavily influenced by earlier African American music forms. Modern day rap, originates
from it s previous form of gangsta rap. Gangsta rap is an extremely controversial form of music,

Essay On Little Rock Nine
Little Rock Nine On September 25, 2017, former President Bill Clinton opened the doors of
Little Rock High School in Arkansas for the 40th reunion of the Little Rock Nine. Forty years
ago, the desegregation of the school shook the nation. Nine African American teenagers decided
to take a stand and do the unimaginable. Melba Pattillo Beals, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth
Eckford, Ernest Green, Gloria Ray Karlmark, Carlotta Walls LaNier, Thelma Mothershed, and
Terrence Roberts were the tenacious students that helped force integration across the south,
spun on the Civil Rights movement, and helped change the attitudes of millions. They wanted
to show that they were equal, that the color of their skin does not define who they are. The task
was far from easy, but if it wasn t for the courage, and strength of these nine students, who knows
what the world would be like today. Many segregated schools that the black teens were forced to
attend were overcrowded, run down, and were not provided with books or supplies in good
shape. Conversely, the schools for the white students were in better condition, and had newer
book and supplies (Bubar 2).The local leader of the NAACP (National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People), Daisy Bates decided to prove a point. She wanted to give the
not only the black students but all blacks just as many privileges and luxuries as the white. She was
much older than the students and had seen how blacks had got treated in the past and has seen
many monumental actions such as Rosa Parks sitting on the bus. She used her platform to be a
voice, her Husband and her owned the top African American newspaper offices in America and they
stood up for the blacks that would never be heard, or get their voice out. She knew bundles upon
bundles were getting mistreated and not getting their equal rights. Bates recruited nine black
students to enroll at Central High, she thought that having kids do this would have more of an
impact than an adult would, maybe the whites would be more considerate or think that something
in society is wrong if children are having to do something about it. The nine students that she
selected were the brightest, most kind hearted kids, they

From the first words on the page, The year was 2081, and everybody was finally equal. , Vonnegut
sets the stage perfectly for satire. The opening statements make it seem as though it is an utopian
society, but the reader quickly finds that maybe it is the opposite, a dystopia. Through the use of
definite terms such as perfect , nobody and everyone the reader can see the satire, because almost
nothing is definite (7). Hazel and George Bergeron are representative of a conformist society, going
through the motions of life without thinking about them. Harrison, on the other hand represents the
oppressed Rags to Riches hero. Vonnegut uses his character to speak out about his views of, not
conforming to society and fighting for the things that matter, something that can easily be stopped

Atrocities And Liberation Of Concentration Camps
The Atrocities and Liberation of Concentration Camps If you combine sadistic Nazi soldiers, a
license to kill, and twenty six million people whom they took their aggression out on, you have the
Holocaust. From torture to murder, the concentration camp prisoners experienced almost every
despicably, inhumane act one can imagine. Hitler s Nazis will never be able to justify this ultimate
example of cruelty and unfairness. Although the Holocaust occurred nearly seventy years ago, the
world will never fail to remember the horrible acts that were committed against millions of innocent
people in concentration camps. Whether the camps establishments were for labor purposes, or
simply because Hitler... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, every bit of their hair was shaved off with electric razors and shearing machines. That hair
was used to make clothing that the guards and their dogs would wear. To finish off this
disinfecting process, the deportees were then taken into a shower room and were immersed in a
phenol solution. Those who lived, for many had died because they weren t able to stand or
became unconscious, were given wool rags to wear and wooden sandals that caused inflammation.
Paper clothing that the deportees had made was taken, and some had resorted to trading in their
food for clothing, only to have it confiscated shortly afterward (Whissen 5 13). Housing
assignments for the prisoners were then issued. The prisoners barracks, which were designed to
house half the people who were stuffed into them, were filthy and full of vermin, as one of the
women assigned to them stated: When we arrived, the sleeping accommodations appeared to be
quite nice; the beds had been neatly made, and on each straw mattress there was a small, blue white
coverlet that was almost pretty. But unfortunately our contentment did not last long. When we
turned down the corner of the coverlet, we saw that the mattresses and covers were crawling with
vermin. My blanket was filthy. (Inside the Concentration Camps 14) Even though these

Summary Of Literary Regionalism By Sarah Orne Jewett
Sarah Orne Jewett was a female author in the late 19th century, who can be immediately set apart
from other writers of her time by the quality and content of her work, as well as the fact of her
success as a female writer during a time when writing books was considered a man s profession.
Jewett always had a penchant for observation and contemplation, and utilized these abilities, along
with valuable writingadvice given to her by her father, to develop her unique writing style. Without
delving into deeper analysis, there are two distinctive themes that are easily recognizable in the vast
majority of Jewett s anthology of works.
Jewett was born and grew up in South Berwick, a small rural town in southern Maine. Many, if not

Miss Dobin and Miss Lucinda Dobin from The Dulham Ladies are excellent examples of this.
The main story describes two women who are arrogant and stuck up in their inability to realize
that they are not nearly as fashionable and current as they would like to think, but despite their
obnoxious ignorance, it s surprisingly hard not to sympathize with the two. They re well written,
complex individuals that are relatable and likable realistic female characters in a time when most
authors would have written women as one dimensional plot devices with no depth of personality.
Despite the fact that Jewett s literary feminism often took a more passive form, she also
occasionally used more conspicuous allegory, such as the disturbance of the lives of the female
characters Sylvia, Mrs. Tilley, and the cow, by the intrusion of the male ornithologist in A White
Heron.
Similarly, Jewett certainly didn t shy away from writing female characters in situations or roles
considered unusual or socially unacceptable for women at the time. Sylvia from A White Heron ,
who Jewett based greatly off of her childhood self, is exactly the type of tomboyish, pocket knife
wielding and tree hugging young girl you don t often see in writing from this period. These
deviations from that era s common literary practices went so far as to describe women

Analysis Of The Lewis And Clark Corps Of Discovery Expedition
Sacagawea was born in 1788, in what is now known as Idaho, as the daughter of the Chief of the
Shoshone Tribe. She led a drudgery early life and experienced many hardships. Sacagawea was
part of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition in 1805. She traveled the northern
plains through the Rocky Mountains and to the Pacific Ocean and back. Sacagaweawas a native
american girl who was taken to slavery at a young age and then went on to be remembered as a
great women.
Sacagawea had a very different and difficult early life. The Shoshones were always getting attacked
by the Hidatsa and Minnetarees Indians. Most of the time, the Shoshones had all their belongings
destroyed and their members killed or kidnapped. She experienced ... Show more content on

She was on the expedition from April 7, 1805 until August 14, 1806. She was the interpreter and
served as a guide on the journey. She had negotiating skills, knowledge of medical herbs, and
knowledge of the terrain. She settled tensions between the explorers and Native Americans
because they saw her son strapped to her back and they felt the explorers were peaceful. She also
did the cooking for the other journeymen and made sure everyone was fed.
Lewis helped Sacagawea give birth to her son. Lewis wrote in his journal about five O clock this
evening one of the wives of Charbono was delivered of a fine boy. it is worthy of remark that
this was the first child which this woman had borne, and as is common in such cases her labour
was tedious and the pain violent; Mr. Jessome informed me that he had frequently administered a
small portion of the rattle of the rattlesnake, which he assured me had never failed to produce the
desired effect, that of hastening the birth of the child; having the rattle of a snake by me I gave it
to him and he administered two rings of it to the woman broken in small pieces with the fingers
and added to a small quantity of water. Her labor must have been so painful and scary at this age.
During the expedition Clark really started caring for Jean and asked Charbonneau and Sacagawea
if the could raise him as his old child and give him a good education. It was Clark who had
nicknamed him Pompey.

Cisco Case Study Essay
CASE QUESTIONS В– CISCO 1a. How did Cisco find itself in trouble with regard to its intended
IT prior to Brad Boston s arrival? Prior to his arrival, CISCO had a decentralized approach to IT
spending. Independent business groups were making decisions in fuctional silos. Each group
their own funds for IT, therefore, redundant applications such as CRM systems were created.
This was a global issue as well as a localized issue. The Cisco philosophy regarding IT was simple:
As long as someone was willing to pay for it, the IT department would work on whatever process
/project specified. This is not only a waste of money, but it also creates problems when trying to
work across teams. If two teams use two different processes to come... Show more content on

In 1993, when Peter Solvik took over as CIO of Cisco, he reallocated the IT budget to each
individual department. He also took the power away from an IT steering committee and gave it
to departments. This gave each department the ability to function independent of each other.
There was no need for them to communicate with other departments in order to achieve similar
objectives and goals. 2a. What is BPOC s role? The BPOC s role is to get together biweekly to
review and prioritize key initiatives that impact the company as a whole. BPOC would categorize
each initiative and then make recommendations for the different projects. b. How much formal
authority does it have? While they demonstrated no formal authority; the recommendations carried
a great deal of weight. These are senior executives and they do have a vast knowledge of what is
needed for the company to continue to be successful. c. How much IT funding does it control? It
does not control funding for any initiatives, it merely has strong influence and promotes its
recommendations. 3a. Would you approve the call center project, including the rationale for your
recommendation? We would approve the call center project. The call center pilot was already
successful in the European market and is ready to be deployed throughout the entire company. It
would create a more efficient process for both internal and external Cisco customers. It would

The Development Of The Kidneys
The embryological development of the kidneys occurs in three successive phases: the pronephros,
the mesonephros, and the metanephros. Because of the nature in this development, there are many
forms of congenital abnormalities associated with the kidneys. Because of their close
developmental association, there is also a complex relationship between the reproductive system
and the urinary system. During the pronephros phase in foetal development, by day 22, the
intermediate mesoderm (identified lateral to the paraxial mesoderm) gives rise to nephrotomes
(nephric vesicles) in the cervical region via the transformation of epithelial cells. The collection
of the nephrotomes is referred to as the pronephros and will proceed to develop in a cephalo
caudal direction. However, the pronephros is non functional and will atrophy within a few days.
By day 23, the next phase of epithelial cells are induced to develop (lateral to the somite) by the
pronephric duct as it elongates caudally into the thoracic region. The new epithelial tubules
(mesonephric tubules) continue to receive a blood supply from capillary tufts branched from the
dorsal aorta. The mesonephric tubules envelope the capillary tuft and are analogous to Bowman s
capsules and glomerulus, respectively. These tubules are now functioning for a short period of time
to filtrate the blood into the continuation of the pronephric duct, now known as the mesonephric
duct or Wolffian duct. Between 24 and 26 days, the mesonephric

In most Prix fixe menus they will offer three courses : appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
A A la carte menu has a lot more fooditems than a semi a la carte menu and a prix fixe menu. A
Semi a la carte menu is much smaller than a A le carte menu but still has a brief description of

  • 3. The Concept of Personal Identity Personal Identity in philosophy refers to a person s self perception, ones belief about who they are and how they differ form others. Locke and Hume both share their ideas about Personal identity and although they might both drastically differ they are still both puzzling. Locke s theory on personal identity has to do with what make a person the same person over time, and to Locke remaining the same person doesn t necessarily mean remaining the same physically. For, since consciousness always accompanies thinking, and it is that which makes every one to be what he calls self, and thereby distinguishes himself from all other thinking things, in this alone consists personal identity (53). He believes that personal identity and consciousness go hand in hand, he thinks personal identity is conceived through ones awareness of current thoughts and actions. You are who you are because of your thoughts and memories. Locke believes that the only accommodation that should be encountered in order for a person to still have their identity is the awareness of past experiences. They must be able to remember there past experiences in order for them to preserve their identity. Locke discusses the possibility of two forms having the same consciousness. He claims that these two forms, because they have the same memories, experiences, and consciousness must be the same person. Locke s is trying to tell us that a person can indeed inhabit two different men. An objection to Locke s view ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In him were deposited all the desires of restoration of the original state of the man and mainly of the state of intimate communion with God the all powerful. Therefore, Cain shows himself to be a person who did not please God with his offerings, because his motivation was different from the motivation of his brother Abel, as he sought to present the best of his flock to the Lord as we can see at Genesis 4:3 5 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell . It happened at the end of a time Cain brought from the fruit of the earth an offering to the Lord; Abel, for his part, brought of the firstfruits of his flock and the fat thereof. The Lord of Abel and his offering were pleased; While Cain and his offering were not pleased. It is understood that Cain would have offered an offer thankfully and not voluntarily as was the case of Abel. This form of offering of Cain displeased the Lord, who came to pay attention to Abel s offering. Writing about the punishment God applied to Cain, which was intended to lead him to repentance, shows how much his heart was blacked out by sin and rebellion against the Creator. This is because most young people who indulge in excessive use of the drug do so as an experiment to get the good feeling of being on the other side of the law. • 9. Analysis Of The Book The Secret Life Of Bees Reading Response Kaitlyn Baker The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd The biggest pull factor that brought me to reading The Secret Life of Bees, is the fact that it is set in a time when racial separation was very much still alive in America. So when I began my journey on reading the novel, it was quickly clear that I was going to thoroughly enjoy it. The story follows a young white girl, Lily, whose life revolves around unravelling the faded memory of her killing her mother, and her new life with her abusive father. It is the story of Lily blossoming into adolescence, in a time where racial separation is still a big issue. Lily s journey to find something, anything, about her mother s death is something I think is a large part of why this novel is so mesmerizing to read. Lily s loyalty of trying to piece it together makes this story moving, but not depressing. I think it is uplifting, full of heart, inspiring, and warm. I think Kidd, the author, has perfectly captured the awkward restlessness of a teenager, longing for love, yearning to discover, but at the same time fearful of what truth could emerge. Seeing Lily s almost desperate longing for any kind of a mother figure is something that truly broke my heart. It made me think about how I am so blessed in my life to have such a strong mother figure, and I hope no one has to go through life without some kind of motherly guidance. I often got the feeling of Lily s deep desire for nurturance, which can be owed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The goal of experimental medicine is to increase the efficiency of drug development by providing a better understanding of the drug s mechanism(s) of action, dose response, efficacy, and safety, allowing the process to be accelerated for the most promising and efficacious candidates (Krishna, Herman, Wagner, 2008). Preclinical testing begins with identifying the ideal drug target. The target should be disease modifying and/or have a proven function in the pathophysiology of the disease. Target expression should not be uniformly distributed throughout the body. There should also be a favorable IP condition allowing the drug freedom to operate without competition. If the druggability is not obvious, a 3D structure for the target protein or a close homologue should be available for assessment. The target should also have favorable assayability enabling high throughput screening. To identify these targets there are many strategies that can be utilized such as: genomic analysis (phenotype analysis, genetic association, gene expression profiling, etc.), pathway analysis, and activity based proteomic profiling (Frank Hargreaves, 2003; Lipsky Sharp, 2001; Krishna, Herman, Wagner, 2008). We maintain this relationship in order to survive. In exchange, we carefully monitor how our behavior alters the natural environment and affects those living within it. This responsibility is the price we pay for our species sentience and dominance. To help fulfill our duty, America established the 1954 WildernessAct in hopes of becoming passive guardians of natureinstead of encroaching gardeners. However, the Wilderness Act has failed. In his article, Rethinking the Wild , Christopher Solomon questions the effectiveness of the law and correctly concludes that, after fifty years of dormancy, mankind must take an active role in environmental protection, the role of the gardener. Though critics may argue that the passivity of the guardian should be maintained, realistically, little can be done to preserve the environment when we refuse to do anything. Because mankind has a greater stake in the wilderness than we realize, we must assume a proactive role in protecting the wilderness out of respect for nature and our own ethical standards. Boundaries and Investments Assume for the sake of our argument that nature holds no intrinsic value. Why, then, is the wilderness worth protecting? Truthfully, the wilderness can be a valuable indicator of the planet s overall health, which is not easily gauged in industrialized and populated areas due to human influence. For ... One of the major social issues is centrally concerned with the untouchables. Compulsions transcend the limits of party, ideology. These leaders act as any, other leader would irrespective of party. In it, Roy engages with the political legacy of communismin Kerala. Her satirical portrayal of E.M.S. Namboodiripad, the first Chief Minister and his party followers created many controversies. The novel is about politics. Through its various agencies, this politics exercises decisive influence over the lives of the people of Ayemenem. Unlike other writers such as Mulk Raj Anand, Arundhati Roy presents politics as a very complex force. It is operative at different levels. This politics begins with home. This is manipulated by different people for different ends. The novel portrays the forces of power working in alliance in the novel. Apart from the political criticism, a humanistic reading of the text reveals the social bias around the social politics, i.e. caste system. It bares the sad plight of the lower caste, even in the political system supported by the proletarian values. • 21. The Science behind War The science behind War As we all know war has been amongst us since time ever began. It has been around when the first creatures were developed and learned how to survive. And as humans evolved over the centuries, we came to realize this theory we call war is actually a natural thing. And we then classified it as violenceor as the survival of the fittest. And now in modern thinking and technology, we are now able to find how the human mind came up with an idea such as violence. How humans first used violence for survival then it turned into strategies then from there came with the inventions of weapons. Firstly what is violence that causes things as war? Violence comes in the amydola, a part in the brain that deals with emotions. It is what gives you the urge to do something in that quarter of a second between the event and the response. Nationalists were influenced by other people in other countries that had successfully revolted, for example like in Spain in 1820. The Kingdom of Two Sicilies was conquered and convinced the king to establish a new constitution. Mazzini helped with Italian unification by creating a secret society called Young Italy. Melba Pattillo Beals, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Gloria Ray Karlmark, Carlotta Walls LaNier, Thelma Mothershed, and Terrence Roberts were the tenacious students that helped force integration across the south, spun on the Civil Rights movement, and helped change the attitudes of millions. They wanted to show that they were equal, that the color of their skin does not define who they are. The task was far from easy, but if it wasn t for the courage, and strength of these nine students, who knows what the world would be like today. Many segregated schools that the black teens were forced to attend were overcrowded, run down, and were not provided with books or supplies in good shape. Conversely, the schools for the white students were in better condition, and had newer book and supplies (Bubar 2).The local leader of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), Daisy Bates decided to prove a point. Bates recruited nine black students to enroll at Central High, she thought that having kids do this would have more of an impact than an adult would, maybe the whites would be more considerate or think that something in society is wrong if children are having to do something about it. Atrocities And Liberation Of Concentration Camps The Atrocities and Liberation of Concentration Camps If you combine sadistic Nazi soldiers, a license to kill, and twenty six million people whom they took their aggression out on, you have the Holocaust. From torture to murder, the concentration camp prisoners experienced almost every despicably, inhumane act one can imagine. Hitler s Nazis will never be able to justify this ultimate example of cruelty and unfairness. Although the Holocaust occurred nearly seventy years ago, the world will never fail to remember the horrible acts that were committed against millions of innocent people in concentration camps. Whether the camps establishments were for labor purposes, or simply because Hitler... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, every bit of their hair was shaved off with electric razors and shearing machines. That hair was used to make clothing that the guards and their dogs would wear. To finish off this disinfecting process, the deportees were then taken into a shower room and were immersed in a phenol solution. Those who lived, for many had died because they weren t able to stand or became unconscious, were given wool rags to wear and wooden sandals that caused inflammation. Paper clothing that the deportees had made was taken, and some had resorted to trading in their food for clothing, only to have it confiscated shortly afterward (Whissen 5 13). Housing assignments for the prisoners were then issued. The prisoners barracks, which were designed to house half the people who were stuffed into them, were filthy and full of vermin, as one of the women assigned to them stated: When we arrived, the sleeping accommodations appeared to be quite nice; the beds had been neatly made, and on each straw mattress there was a small, blue white coverlet that was almost pretty. But unfortunately our contentment did not last long. When we turned down the corner of the coverlet, we saw that the mattresses and covers were crawling with vermin. My blanket was filthy. • 42. Summary Of Literary Regionalism By Sarah Orne Jewett Sarah Orne Jewett was a female author in the late 19th century, who can be immediately set apart from other writers of her time by the quality and content of her work, as well as the fact of her success as a female writer during a time when writing books was considered a man s profession. Jewett always had a penchant for observation and contemplation, and utilized these abilities, along with valuable writingadvice given to her by her father, to develop her unique writing style. Without delving into deeper analysis, there are two distinctive themes that are easily recognizable in the vast majority of Jewett s anthology of works. Jewett was born and grew up in South Berwick, a small rural town in southern Maine. Many, if not most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miss Dobin and Miss Lucinda Dobin from The Dulham Ladies are excellent examples of this. The main story describes two women who are arrogant and stuck up in their inability to realize that they are not nearly as fashionable and current as they would like to think, but despite their obnoxious ignorance, it s surprisingly hard not to sympathize with the two. They re well written, complex individuals that are relatable and likable realistic female characters in a time when most authors would have written women as one dimensional plot devices with no depth of personality. Despite the fact that Jewett s literary feminism often took a more passive form, she also occasionally used more conspicuous allegory, such as the disturbance of the lives of the female characters Sylvia, Mrs. Tilley, and the cow, by the intrusion of the male ornithologist in A White Heron. Similarly, Jewett certainly didn t shy away from writing female characters in situations or roles considered unusual or socially unacceptable for women at the time. Sylvia from A White Heron , who Jewett based greatly off of her childhood self, is exactly the type of tomboyish, pocket knife wielding and tree hugging young girl you don t often see in writing from this period. These deviations from that era s common literary practices went so far as to describe women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lewis wrote in his journal about five O clock this evening one of the wives of Charbono was delivered of a fine boy. it is worthy of remark that this was the first child which this woman had borne, and as is common in such cases her labour was tedious and the pain violent; Mr. Jessome informed me that he had frequently administered a small portion of the rattle of the rattlesnake, which he assured me had never failed to produce the desired effect, that of hastening the birth of the child; having the rattle of a snake by me I gave it to him and he administered two rings of it to the woman broken in small pieces with the fingers and added to a small quantity of water. Her labor must have been so painful and scary at this age. • 45. The Development Of The Kidneys The embryological development of the kidneys occurs in three successive phases: the pronephros, the mesonephros, and the metanephros. Because of the nature in this development, there are many forms of congenital abnormalities associated with the kidneys. Because of their close developmental association, there is also a complex relationship between the reproductive system and the urinary system. During the pronephros phase in foetal development, by day 22, the intermediate mesoderm (identified lateral to the paraxial mesoderm) gives rise to nephrotomes (nephric vesicles) in the cervical region via the transformation of epithelial cells. The collection of the nephrotomes is referred to as the pronephros and will proceed to develop in a cephalo caudal direction. However, the pronephros is non functional and will atrophy within a few days. By day 23, the next phase of epithelial cells are induced to develop (lateral to the somite) by the pronephric duct as it elongates caudally into the thoracic region. The new epithelial tubules (mesonephric tubules) continue to receive a blood supply from capillary tufts branched from the dorsal aorta. The mesonephric tubules envelope the capillary tuft and are analogous to Bowman s capsules and glomerulus, respectively. These tubules are now functioning for a short period of time to filtrate the blood into the continuation of the pronephric duct, now known as the mesonephric duct or Wolffian duct. Between 24 and 26 days, the mesonephric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
