Large scale investment is being made in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) like adaptive traffic systems, CCTV, variable message signs, parking systems, and footfall counters. Dublin City Council (DCC) has real-time data on Dublin Bus locations and traffic/pedestrian flows. DCC is providing IBM access to this data and server space to allow visualization of problems across the city and at specific locations, while handling data feeds in XML formats. Real-time data access through systems like SCATS and real-time passenger information systems requires expensive per-connection licenses, so a single Dublinked license is proposed to allow multiple external requests while caching data.
