This document provides a summary of Colt's evolution from MPLS to cloud networking. It discusses Colt's transformation to deliver services via software-defined networking and network functions virtualization technologies. This allows services to be provisioned in minutes rather than days and offers dynamic, pay-as-you-use commercial models. Colt is developing platforms like Novitas for network orchestration and Stratus for network virtualization to enable its On Demand services and automation. Future initiatives involve using artificial intelligence for closed-loop automation and intelligent service management.
Meshing OpenStack and Bare Metal Networks with EVPN - David Iles, Mellanox Te...OpenStack
Audience Level
Intermediate
Synopsis
The latest SDN revolution is centered on creating efficient virtualized data center networks using VXLAN & EVPN. We will talk about the scale, performance, and cost advantages of using a modern controller-free virtualized network solution built on 100 Gigabit Ethernet switches with hardware based VXLAN Routing. We will explore the ease of automating such a network in an OpenStack environment and take you through a real world use case of using OpenStack Network Node bridging between a bare metal cloud (EVPN) and a fully virtualized cloud environments (orchestrated by Neutron).
Speaker Bio:
David has held leadership roles at 3COM, Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks, and IBM where he promoted advanced network technologies including High Speed Ethernet, Layer 4-7 switching, Virtual Machine-aware networking, and Software Defined Networking.
David’s current focus is on the evolving landscape of data center networking, scale out storage, Open Networking, and cloud computing.
Building DataCenter networks with VXLAN BGP-EVPNCisco Canada
The session specifically covers the requirements and approaches for deploying the Underlay, Overlay as well as the inter-Fabric connectivity of Data Center Networks or Fabrics. Within the VXLAN BGP-EVPN based Overlay, we focus on the insights like forwarding and control plane functions which are critical to the simplicity operation of the architecture in achieving scale, small failure domains and consistent configuration. To complete the overlay view on VXLAN BGP-EVPN, we are going to the insides of BGP and its EVPN address-familiy and extend to about how multiple DC Fabric can be interconnected within, either as stretched Fabrics or with true DCI. The session concludes with a brief overview of manageability functions, network orchestration capabilities and multi-tenancy details. This Advanced session is intended for network, design and operation engineers from Enterprises to Service Providers.
This presentation covers an industry perspective and a roadmap towards 5G with open and democratized interfaces. It covers examples of open reference platforms and how open source communities can complement standard bodies such as 3GPP and IEEE. It characterizes RAN and user and control plane core micro services and discusses opportunities for embedded network telemetry for emerging machine learning applications.

Small Brief on Next Generation SD-WAN
Dynamic business landscape and uncompromised demands of applications and users have driven dramatic transformation in IT Networking after many years of relative stability. Frequent changes in technologies are shifting networking from static Infrastructure to more agile, secured, future ready and hybrid-cloud infrastructure. This created un-precedented network management complexities that has become a growing concern for the enterprise.
Early Generation of SD-WAN providers were primarily focused on cost reduction via replacing MPLS with low-cost broadband.
Infinxt Next Generation SD-WAN handles data and network security with in-built NGFW, SLA based Application Performance Enhancement, Traffic Shaping, Multi/ Hybrid Cloud App aware routing, in addition to the traditional SD-WAN features

Tutorial at IEEE IM 2019.
The tutorial will provide a comprehensive coverage of the Network Automation domain starting with the scope and definitions, introducing the challenges and then developing the different approaches to realize complete future network automation solutions. A special focus will be put on the newly created ETSI ISG ZSM "Zero Touch Network and Service Management" and the standardization landscape.
Open Ethernet: an open-source approach to modern network designAlexander Petrovskiy
The era of closed proprietary hardware platforms is coming to an end. Today, in the world of Web-scale IT, the industry is starting to adopt new approach, based on the principles of openness, scalabilty and customizability. However, in more conservative networking industry, traditional equipment and proprietary technologies from a single vendor are often being used, which limits the flexibility, prevents innovation and narrows down the choice.
The "Open Ethernet" initiative from Mellanox brings open source principles into the world of modern networking and allows customers to select the best hardware and software to design network infrastructure, based on open and standard protocols and technologies, also opening the way for broad adoption of SDN.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

The API is functionally equivalent to the portal. There isn’t
anything that can do through the portal that can’t be done
through the API.
The API will be of most interest to future focussed customers,
who are trying to build end-to-end automation for internal
efficiency and want to automate on-site infrastructure, cloud
and network.
MEF LSO framework is being used to standardise the inter-
carrier SDN Federation with the aim to extend Cloud
networking beyond a single operator’s network
