Old Man Platypus By A. B. D Patterson Literary Devices
The title of this poem is The Oldman Platypus and is written by A.B. Banjo Patterson. The theme
of this poem is solitude. This is shown in stanza five verbally expressing, As he goes on his
journey lonely; For he s no relation to fish nor fowl . Another theme that was conveyed in the
poem is ecstasy. The old man platypus has a family, as verbalized in stanzas 3, With his wife and
his son and daughter , this can be postulated as being jubilant because having a family is very
important. Other evidence that was shown in the poem was Safe in their burrow below the falls,
they live in a world of wonder, which can conclude that the old man platypus is blissful for being
in a safe burrow. In this poem Patterson mentions many aspects of... Show more content on

There are many poetic devices used throughout the poem, Metaphor: Patterson utilises metaphor
in stanza one as it states, a fragment of velvet brown this represents the colour of the platypus.
This metaphor tells the reader that old man platypus has fur the colour of velvet brown . This
refers to the earthly brown colour of the platypus describing how a platypus in the river is like
brown velvet. Similes: Similes are employed in stanza four where it verbalizes, They sleep like
little brown billiard balls . This technique compares a slumbering platypus to a brown billiard
balls. When the platypus tucks its beak under its tail, it form an appearance resembling a billiard
ball. This is a vigorous technique and can make the poem intriguing and jocose to read.
Personification: Personification was employed in stanza one, Far from the trouble and toil of

shivering, but they are being moved in a way by nature, which makes them look alive. This help

Domestic Violence Effects On Children Essay
Domestic violence affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men (NCADV, 2015). Although the devastating
effects that domestic violence has on women are well known, there is a population of domestic
violence victims that we tend to overlook. These are the children of the women and men who are
in domestic violence situations. Children are the invisible victims when it comes to domestic
violence. There are many statistics being thrown around when it comes to the number of children
who are exposed to domestic violence; they range from as little as 200,000 to even 3 18 million
(Sousa et. al., 2011). A 2001 study discovered that in 75% of the cases in their study, children were
present in the home during the assaults (Hutchison Hirschel, 2001). Until recently, there have been
limited studies focused on the effects of exposure to domestic violence on children. This paper will
review various literatures that identify the effects of domestic violence exposure on children. There
were many trends in the literatures that were studied but there were two common trends worth
mentioning. The first trend was the participants that were used in the studies. Many of the
literatures mention that previous studies mainly gathered information from women and children
who resided in battered women shelters. The second trend was the methods used for the studies.
Many of the studies used surveys and interviews where women and children self reported on their
experiences. There were many common conflicts in the

Managing Resistance to Change during a Merger
For most, resistance to change inevitable, for some it is their personality and others it is fear of the
unknown. Organizational structure may change through downsizing, outsourcing, acquisitions, or
mergers. In this paper, I will be examining resistance to change during a merger and how to manage
this type of stressful and many times unclear change in an organization. There are three key
strategies for managing resistance to change; communication, participation, and empathy and
support. Throughout this paper I will discuss the three strategies above as well as some other
contributing factors to change in an organization.
People often resist change based on fear of the unknown, fear of loss, fear of failure, disruption of

Many times anxiety can grow because employees fear loss of the organizations traditions. It is
important to involve employees on the transition or modifications to traditions, celebrations, and
other activities that help shape the organizations culture. It is important for both organizations in a
merger to be sensitive to the others rituals and ceremonies and to work towards a compromise and
build new traditions supported by the majority.
Kurt Lewin developed a model of the change process that has stood the test of time and continues
to influence the way organizations manage planned change. Lewin s change model is a three step
process. The process begins with unfreezing, which is a critical first obstacle in the change
process. Unfreezing involves encouraging individuals to shed old behaviors by changing the status
quo. The second step in the change process is moving. In the moving stage, new attitudes, values,
and behaviors are substituted for old ones. Organizations accomplish moving by initiating new
options and explaining the rationale for the change, as well as by providing training to help
employees develop the new skills they need. The last step in the change process is Refreezing. In
this step, new attitudes, values, and behaviors are established as the new normal. The new ways of
operating are concrete and reinforced. Managers should ensure

A Lululemon ambassador is described as someone who embodies the lululemon lifestyle and lives

Ceratopteris richardii, known as a C fern has a lifecycle referred to as alteration of generations,
which consist of neither haploid nor diploid dominant. C ferns are homospours plants which are
important in that they can produce hermaphrioditic gametophytes in order to be able to self
fertilize. However, some of the homospourous C ferns only produce male gametophytes .The life
cycle of Ceratopteris richardii starts as a diploid sporophyte which then, by meiosis, produces
haploid spores. These spores then undergo mitosis to produce a haploid gametophyte, which can be
either hermaphrodite( producing eggs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results The graph of our results showed the percentage of male gametophytes increasing and then
leveling off (Figure 1). This was our trend because most of the points followed this pattern,
however; there was a potential outlier at point (68, 32.3). The distribution of gametophytes on the
culture plates varied. Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes,
while plates D and C were evenly distributed but had less gametophytes. Plate E had clumping of
gametophytes in the top left corner and plate B had clumping the the bottom right corner.
Figure 1. The relationship between the population density and the percentage of male gametophytes.
Discussion
The prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would increase as the population density
of the gametophytes increased, and the prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would
decrease as the population density of the gametophytes increased were not supported by our results.
When the population density was low, the percentage of male gametophytes was relatively low
because there would not be enough eggs to fertilize the sperm produced from both the
hermaphrodite, and the sperm produced by the male gametophyte. When the population density was
high, the percentage of male gametophytes was higher but still less than fifty percent because of the
same reasons. The data from our results did support our

Right Choices In Michael Lehmann s Heathers
Asking a child which snack he prefers, a vegetable or something better suited for dessert, it is
more than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against
his parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing
than an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too
irresistible to pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is
ubiquitous in media. In Michael Lehmann s drama Heathers, Veronica Sawyer finds difficulty in
assuaging her situation because of her oscillation between choosing to carry out all opportunities to
take revenge or to stick to ethics, leading into the idea... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Veronica was neither a saint nor a fiend, J.D. was her foil, displaying the wickedness he
attained from his poor upbringing. His complete disgust with the way society treated itself led
him to plan to blow up his high school. Noticing that Veronica was trying to turn her life around,
he tried one last time for her to sympathize with him: You want to wipe the slate clean as much as
I do. Okay, so maybe I am killing everyone in the school because no one loves me (Heathers).
While some may consider J.D. to be symbolic of malevolence, the problem with being on the
extreme side of the figurative evilness scale is that evil... only emerges when we are broken off
into disconnected fragments (Taylor). This shows that even the outliers remain neutral, because the
pain people experience or lack thereof skews their viewpoints on what they want and what extremes
they will go to to attain

Graduation Selfie Rhetorical Analysis
On graduation day, do you focus on being happy? Thinking that you are done and forgetting about
how much student debt you have? Nate Beeler, the artist of the cartoon Graduation Selfie captures
how that exciting day truly is. Beeler is an editorial cartoonist for the Columbus Dispatch. His
work has appeared in an abundance of news programs and other publications. Beeler has also won
many awards for his cartoons, such as the Fischetti award in 2014, and the Thomas Nast award in
2010 (The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists). The cartoon is arguing that debt is
suffocating to recent college graduates through multiple rhetorical appeals. On college graduation
day you tell yourself, I m finally done! but are you really done?
The cartoon has a solid light blue background. In the top left corner there is purple box, inside
the box it says Graduation Selfie . In the center there is a man in a black cap and gown with his
cellphone up, taking a picture of himself with a toothy grin. Wrapped around his lower half is a ...

Beeler uses symbolism, labeling and exaggeration. The snake symbolizes evil because he is
trying to eat the man. Labeling is used on the snake, there is a bold and clear white label that
says debt . The size of the man s cellphone, his face, and the snake are exaggerated. The snake is
much bigger than the man. These elements bring depth to the cartoon and give you more to
look at than just a snake eating a man. The use of exaggeration on the snake shows that debt is
bigger than you and it can be suffocating. Beeler also uses a rhetorical appeal in this cartoon. I
believe that the snake wrapping itself around the man and getting ready to eat him shows you
pathos, which is appeal to emotion. It is a very relatable topic and by doing this he makes it so
that other people can see this and think about how it applies to their own lives, or if they are in the
same boat as the man in the

A Psychoanalysis of Edward Gein Essay
I have chosen to write my Case Study paper on Edward Gein from the Psychodynamic theoretical
perspective. I believe that his behavior is a perfect case for the psychodynamic perspective
because of the family dynamic in his home. These circumstances led to the actions that would
become the inspiration for many books and movie characters because of the oddity and extreme
nature of his human interactions. Possibly the first crime that Edward committed was killing his
older brother. This has significance on the psychological level because Edward s older brother
began to disagree with their mother s world perspective and I believe this was the motivation for
this crime. He loved his mother very much possibly to the point of Parent Child... Show more

He took the skin of these women s bodies and tanned them making artifacts for around the house
and even a suit of their skins that he could wear and pretend that he was a woman. This seems to be
an extreme and unique case of a type of Gender Identity Disorder. Because of his secluded
lifestyle without a connection to the outside world these behaviors along with others went
unnoticed until a woman disappeared from a hardware store where he was witnessed to have
been at the same time as the disappearance. When the search lead to his farm not only did the
police find that he did murder the victim, but that he had been mutilating scores of corpses. Her
body was found hanging by the ankles with her head decapitated from her body. There was also
another woman who appeared to be murdered by Gein, and the remains of many other bodies.
Edward Gein has reached legendary status because of what he did to the bodies of the women he
dug up from the cemetery. In his house among other items were; human organs in the refrigerator,
a lampshade made of a human face, ten female heads with the tops sawn off, human skin chair
covers, nine masks of human skin, bowls made from human skulls. ( Ed gein, 2011) Among the
disorders seen from a psychodynamic point of view I would include Necrophilia and Sexual

Sign Miracles

The Eight Sign Miracles of Jesus
There are four Gospels in the New Testament, and each seemingly written to a different audience
base that show different aspects to deity. There are a total of 37 different miracles attributed to
Jesus during his years of ministry on earth; although, there are only eight miracles detailed in the
Gospel of John. John is considered to be more sectarian and exclusive than the other three gospels.
This book was written to convey and convince all those who read it of the Deity of Jesus. The
author tells us in John 20, And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples,
which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that ... Show more

By virtue of Jesus power, the people s desire for him to be their king was based out of selfishness
with what He could offer them, and had remotely nothing to do with the divine revelation of who
he was. Unfortunately, this is the mentality that still exist today with believers and nonbelievers
alike, a selfish mindset that tends to look for and seek out supply rather than seeking to know the
source, which is God.
John uses Jesus walking on water as his fifth sign miracle. This shows that Jesus has power over
all natural laws. Jesus saw the disciples fighting for their lives on a stormy sea and he walks
toward them. The disciples were quite naturally afraid, but when Jesus revealed his identity to
them all of their fears were calmed. John does not recant the story of Peter walking on water with
Jesus as the book of Mark does, perhaps this is done intentionally not to take the spotlight off of the
divine abilities of Jesus, and instead focusing on Peter.
The next sign miracle was another demonstration of his ability to heal. Jesus healed a man born
blind. This healing prompted a similar reaction from the Pharisees and the Jews that healing the
lame man did; although, in this instance it was not done in violation of the Sabbath day. This was
the first time Jesus had admitted openly that illness or affliction have been placed on someone for
the sole purpose of revealing God s glory.

Massachusetts is cold, John Locke isn t surprised. He has heard things about it, the weather, the

The Impact Of Henry Ford s Assembly Line System On...
Though the assembly line started over a hundred years ago, it is still revolutionary today. It has
majorly impacted the industrial world so greatly that businesses that did not gain the practice soon
became extinct, and it was also one key factor that assisted creating the automobile into American
society. Henry Fords assembly linesystem was one of the most powerful changes that has affected
modern America and is still recognized today. Not only did he achieve developing the middle
class so anyone could afford his product, but he also broke the ideas of monopolies.
In the first place, some things that we have today wouldn t be here without Ford s assembly line.
Without the assembly line all cars would take a lot longer to manufacture and produce to people
around the nation. The middle class wouldn t have been known without the assembly line because
without the assembly line no workers will be paid $5 every working day. The assembly line is an
constructing process that has parts that are added as the product moves through the line that moves
from station to station where workers or now machines manufacture the product. The middle class
helped revolutionize the assembly line because Henry Ford was paying his workings double the

Minimum Wage Should Be Increased
Congress enacted the federal minimum wage in 1938, during the Great Depression. Congress had
two goals; keeping workers away from poverty and boosting consumer spending for economic
recovery. Today, there is a debate, whether we should increase the minimum wageagain. Increasing
the minimum wage is useful for several reasons. First, the current minimum wage has failed to keep
up with inflation. Second, a higher income level reduces employee turnover and increases
efficiency and ultimately, raising the minimum wage does not reduce employment. Even with high
unemployment rates, the minimum wage is useful for the economy.
Today the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour since July 24, 2009. It has failed to keep up
with inflation. The real value of the minimum wage rose steadily from 1938 until its value
reached a peak in 1968. Thereafter, it suffered severe erosion as Congress failed to adjust for the
inflation over time. The minimum wage of $1.60 an hour in 1968 would be $10.47 today when
adjusted for inflation. This means that the purchasing power of the minimum wage has decreased
significantly over time. The current minimum wage is no longer enough to protect workers out
of poverty. A person who earns the minimum wage and works full time (40 hours/week, 52
weeks/year) only earns about $12,000 in a year. This is almost $7,000 below the poverty line for a
family of three ($19,090)

Nihonjinron Stereotypes In The Film Kamikaze Girls
According to the textbook An Introduction to Japanese society , nihonjinron means theories of
Japaneseness (p.3). Nihonjinron is also the longest lasting model that mostly views Japan as a
homogeneous society. Briefly, Nihonjinron beliefs include :1) The Japanese being portrayed as
lacking in demonstrating individuality and more value to the group 2) Japanese emphasis on
harmony within the group (intra group level) and 3) Japan is a consensus group. Therefore, in the
film Kamikaze girls there were various nihonjinron themes and stereotypes. For example, the main
character, Ichigo. Ichigo felt alone before joining the bike gang and when she joined she felt
belongness. Ichigos bike outfits also include the Japanese flag sewn to clothes.

It is interesting to read the article about Cadbury Worldwide. From perspectives of 3 three

Cadbury is a leader in the UK confectionery market. the interaction between American managers and
British managers and workers after purchasing Cadbury by the American owned Kraft is an

Essay On Justification Of Civil War
The Justification of the Civil War It can be argued that the Civil War could have been avoided or
unavoidable. This war was American land where Americans were killing each other, undeniably
was unavoidable from my perspective. The main issues of the war was over slavery but there
were other issues that also like politics and power and economics that also played a role in the
war. The Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars killing hundreds of thousands of men. The Civil
War was fought in the United States from 1861 1865 and was fought between the Southern and
Northern states after they became divided. Session was brought about after Lincoln was coming

increased. These slaves were labors working with agriculture not only cotton but rice, tobacco,
sugar, and hemp also. Most the slave labor was field labor and to meet the needs of labor there
was the domestic slave trade. Although slave trade was prohibited in 1808, a new huge slave trade

Problems In English Oral Communication
English oral communicative ability According to Byrne (1986), oral communication is the process
between speakers and listeners. The speakers use their productive skill to change their thought into
appropriate language, and then the listeners use receptive skill to interpret the message from the
speakers. In English communication, the speakers need communicative competence which is the
ability of using or interpreting languages in appropriate way during the conversation. In other word,
the speakers need to know the purpose of their speaking and they have to use the right language to
talk with the right person (Hymes, 1981). According to Common European Framework (2001), the
communicative competence consists of three elements including linguistic competence,
sociolinguistic competence, and pragmatic competence. Revell (1979) also gave an opinion about
communication, and his opinion is related with Hymes s. He claims that the ability of

Inhibition The first problem in English speaking is inhibition. Many students are often inhibited
when they try to speak English. According to Littlewood (2007), foreign language classroom can
cause inhibition and anxiety easily. The students are often worried about making mistakes, fearful
of criticism or embarrassment. 2. Lack of topical knowledge Rivers (1968) believes that sometimes
the students cannot express themselves because the teachers push them to speak in the topic that is
not suitable for them. They might have no idea how to use the grammar correctly, which
vocabulary to use, or what to say about the topic that teacher asks them to answer. 3. Low
participation In a large class, there is not enough time for every student to speak. Some students
hardly or never participate in any oral practice because there are too many students in the class.
They can only listen what the others say, but do not have an opportunity to express themselves. 4.

Hybrid Vehicle Disadvantages
The pros and cons of Hybrid/Alternative Fueled Vehicles:
There are many factors to consider when purchasing a Hybrid or Alternative Fueled Vehicle. Most
times when searching for a vehicle, consumers tend to search for amenities to help cut cost. When
considering alternative fueled vehicles, consumers have to keep in mind that there are several
types of hybrid vehicles with different operating abilities to choose from to satisfy the needs of the
consumers. With hybrids, there are three types which are hybrid electric vehicles, plug in hybrid
electric vehicles and all electric vehicles. Since they all operate differently, it is important to be
informed to ensure the consumer is happy and satisfied with their investment.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles consist of gasoline engines, electric motors and use advanced
technology to operate. One of the technologies used is a regenerative braking, which recaptures
energy that is lost during coasting or braking. The use of the forward wheels is what turns the
motor which generates electricity and assist to slow the vehicle. There is also a normal hydraulic
braking system that stops the vehicle when the regenerative system isn t sufficient. Another
technology used is the Electric Motor Drive/Assist which allows the electric motor to provide
power and assist the engine in accelerating, passing and hill climbing. It also allows a smaller,
more efficient engine to be used. The electric motor in hybrids drives the vehicle at low speeds,

Review Of Hairspray By John Waters
From Grease to Rent, musical comedies have been known to enlighten viewers on specific issues
while keeping the context of the musical pleasurable and easy to enjoy. The 2007 musical film
Hairspray is a satire of Baltimore in the early 1960 s while going through the Civil Rights
movement. Through this romantic comedy, the agon of African American civil rights and other
power struggles among race gender, and class are depicted through certain comic techniques to keep
the musical lighthearted but meaningful.
The 2007 play, Hairspray, is based off of a 2002 Broadway musical which was ultimately based off
the 1988 comedy film by John Watersalso named Hairspray. It begins in 1962 just before the Civil
Rights movements took place. A plump teenager named Tracy Turnblad wants to audition for a
local television dancing show, The Corny Collins Show, but her mother Edna won t let her
follow her dreams of being famous. Edna thinks she will get hurt because she doesn t look like
the perfect girl they typically allow on the show, but rather a plus sized version of them.
Regardless of her weight, Tracy s dance moves get her on the show where she meets her crush,
Link. With plump Tracy on the show and new changes in the air, the theme of equality reoccurs as
Tracy fights to make the show integrated, causing Negro Day on the show to be an everyday
occurrence. Along with its camp aesthetic, the comedy is full of slapstick humor and parabasis

Politeness And Its Impact On The Early Nineteenth Century
As a result of the term politeness being mainly used as a verbal fixture in the eighteenth century, it
was frequently used in a vacuous manner resulting in its adding relatively little to both the general
notions of correctness and refinement (Stein van Ostade, 1994). However, during the early part of
the eighteenth century, there is significant evidence of the term politeness having a definite and
specific set of resonances. The importance of investigating the notion of politeness in the early
eighteenth century is that although the main idiom of politeness is seen to have generally been
cultivated in a number of important ways by numerous writers during the restoration decades, it has
been mainly crystallised during the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, politeness was generally used to help in evoking a
vision of culture and social life, which is considered to be appropriate to modern times. This vision
of politeness, linking cultural refinement and moral improvement, was epitomised in gentlemanly
and urbane conversations (Stein van Ostade, 1994). Politeness was found to be mainly a refined
condition of social interactions (Atkinson, 1999), while social politeness was found to be
paradigmatically conversational. Conversational politeness attempts to pursue verbal agreeableness
that is essentially captured in a characteristic vocabulary in the form of phrases and words, such as
soft, natural, easy and never tiresome (Stein van Ostade, 1994).Thus, although the actual origins of
the subject of politeness were mainly on the basis of social interactions, politeness eventually came
to take an essentially exemplary role for general conversations in written discourse. Polite texts
were deemed to be specifically conversational in nature. The actual pace of commenting on the
English language was remarkably quickened in the late seventeenth through to the eighteenth
century. Though a large number of language related texts were published during this period as a
result of advancements in printing (Kernan, 1989), there were new concerns with the notion of

Unfortunately this supports the idea that Americans truly only look out for themselves because
those who do give back are few and far between. The professor has a major role in helping the
Altrurian understand how American society functions. During this time period, education and
business are kept separate, but the professor believes that one day they will eventually unite. The
professor views businessmen as egotistical, self centered individuals who abandon their morals
in order to do what is necessary to benefit themselves. Education is seen as the opposite, a place
for gentlemen. As a result, if someone wanted to be a good businessman he should not get an
education because education would make him more moral and therefore less of a businessman.
The banker believes education to be completely unnecessary because of the class system. The
lower classes believe education to be unimportant because parents would prefer for their children
to be at home working instead of going to school. The upper classes view education as unnecessary
because they are likely to become businessmen and any education would simply give them a
handicap. The professor himself agrees that his position is unnecessary. Without education there is
no way to teach others. There is no way to better our knowledge and understanding of the world
around us.

Essay on The Catiline Conspiracy
Sallust, Cicero and the Catiline Conspiracy
Both the histories of Sallust and the orations of Cicero can be considered literary works, to a
degree. The War With Catiline, by Sallust and The First Speech Against Lucius Sergius Catilina, by
Cicero, both contain excellent examples of writings from the age of the great Roman Empire.
Although both are fantastic pieces depicting a time of tragedy, the Catiline Conspiracy against
Rome, and they both think Catiline as evil, the two are also different.
Sallust was an obscure historical writer from the first century BCE. In The War With Catiline, he
tells of the conspiracy of Catiline and his plan to bring about civil war in Rome and over power the
Senate. Sallust depicts this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These men were those who wanted to gain riches by pillaging, and to free themselves of debt

outright about his plan. He seemed to have been careless in who overheard his discussions and
whom he told. This ultimately led his plans to be discovered. He fled from Rome where he fought
in battle until his death.
Sallust recounts the history of the Catiline Conspiracy with much detail concerning who was
involved and the specific actions taken by both the conspirators and the Senate. Sallust tells it
almost as an exciting story where the good is fighting the evil.
Cicero was a member of the Senate during the time of Catiline s Conspiracy. His life was many
times in danger due to Catiline s hatred of him. His piece shows a first hand point of view of the
whole situation. Cicero, in The First Speech Against Lucius Sergius Catilina, delivers a speech
proposing what actions should be made to stop Catiline. It is very obvious that Cicero expresses
a hatred for Catiline, but surprisingly he does not propose a death sentence for Catiline in fear
for his own reputation in the Senate. Though I m sure it would ve been retaliation he would have
loved to offer as a personal revenge. Cicero then goes on to accuse Catiline of numerous wrongs he
has committed to both the citizens and laws of Rome. All the while Cicero made it quite clear to

Superpowers in WOrld War II
In World War, two great superpowers in Europe, Germany and Britain clashed through aerial
warfare. Hitler planned to lead the invasion of Britain with the Luftwaffe through intensive attacks
against the Royal Air Force in England. Britain was the only nation left standing against the
Germans after France was forced to sign an armistice on June 22, 1940; Hitler knew that air power
was the only way to reach the isolated island nation. The Battle of Britainlasted from mid June,
when Hitler launched Operation Sea Lion, codenamed as such for the invasion of England, to mid
September of 1940, when Operation Sea Lion was postponed indefinitely. The Second World War
went from September 1st, 1939 to September 2nd, 1945. The German Luftwaffehad a substantial
impact on the military, economic and social systems of Britain throughout the Second World
War. Britain s air force was a vital part of their military and defence when Hitler attempted to gain
air superiority over England through the German Luftwaffe which was led by Hermann
Göering. The radar system used to detect aerial attack in Britain was flawed in the beginning of
the war and there was a shortage of anti air craft guns. Radar could not predict the size and height
of incoming enemy bombers and lacked detail that was necessary and vital for effective defence
preparations. At the start of the Blitz, there were only 92 anti air craft guns to defend London and
the guns were outdated with a terrible fire control system.

The Absurd Geniuses Of All Time
Samuel Beckett, regarded as one of the best Theater of the Absurd geniuses of all time, is an
Irish playwright and director of the avant garde. Living in Paris France for the majority of his
life, he wrote in both English and French. Using bleak and hopeless themes, his works depict a
harsh attack on realism and challenge the very meaning of life. Beckett s works opened the
world of theater to many interesting possibilities in drama and fiction. He introduced to theater
and novel the idea that the existence of human life is absurd, an idea that is prominent in his
writings. Born and raised in Ireland, he excelled in his education at Dublin University and
Campbell College before moving to Paris in 1928. Here he was introduced to the profound Irish
author, James Joyce, who is regarded as one of the most influential and important authors of the
20th century. Beckett and Joyce assisted in each other s writings, including the book, Finnegans
Wake (1939). Finnegans Wake shows some of Beckett s darkness with its themes of sin interpreted
in a dreamlike state. This book also inspired Beckett s more comedic approach to the dark and
depressing themes in most of his works. Assumption (1929), written by Beckett, was his first of
many stories. Consisting of various themes of human nature and Irish folklore, this story was the
first of many that could be considered as difficult to understand or just gibberish, due to its syntax
being strained to incomprehensibility. The story contains

Auteur Theory Essay
Andrew Sarris Notes on the Auteur Theory in 1962 lays out the argument of three levels
required for a filmmaker to meet the criteria to be a full fledged auteur. In this essay, I will argue
and provide evidence for which support Sofia Coppola s place as an auteur. Sofia Coppola is a
screenwriter, director, producer, and former actress. She is notable for her use of pastel mise en
scene and clothing, high fill lighting, and mix of daydreams and reality. Coppola s background
working in high fashion and nearly a decade practicing photography seem to have helped mold
her as a distinct filmmaker. Her father s skill may have contributed to her passion and enthusiasm
for the same line of work. However, his fame does not take away from her autonomy as both a
skillful filmmaker and as an auteur.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coppola s usage of tying visuals to music and sound are one of her strengths. She often uses a

of lighting schemes, often selecting high fill or natural looking lighting setups skillfully. In order to
have the distinct style discussed in the next level of auteur theory, one must be able to master the
first. Coppola plays upon beginner filmmaker expectations in this first premise by shaking up
expectations and standards. Handheld cameras are used significantly less modernly unless to give
a shaky, amateur or frightening affect. However, Coppola s use of this technique adds to proof of
her talent in this first level of auteur theory. The film Lost in Translation (2003) exemplifies her

Introduction The failure of Fantastic Four s Reboot has been arguing since its global release in
theaters in 9th of august in 2015. The reviews by critics led the earnings of the movie to reach
approximately $29.4 million in its debut in cinemas. In one hand, the most noticeable final
impression of reviewers is that the majority agreed to consider Fantastic Four s Reboot the worst
superhero movie ever. On the other hand, almost all of the critics did not blame the actors and
actresses to be the reason of the movie s failure. Yet, There were several aspects affected the
movie to not be worthy of audience s attention in the Box Office such as visual language
superficiality, more realistic and dramatic than a fantasy movie, promising actors and actresses

an arguable point has been broached to describe the visual language in the movie to be very

Essay on Food Web Diagram
Food Web Diagram The African Grasslands are areas where the vegetation is dominated by
grasses and other herbaceous (non woody) plants. Grasslands cover nearly 50 percent of the land
surface of the continent of Africa. While grasslands in general support diverse wildlife, given the
lack of hiding places for predators, the African Savannah regions support a much greater diversity
in wildlife than do temperate grasslands. The root systems of perennial grasses and forbs form
complex mats that hold the soil in place. Mites, insect larvae and earthworms inhabit deep soil,
which can reach 20 feet underground in undisturbed grasslands on the richest soils of the world.
These invertebrates, along with symbiotic fungi, extend the root... Show more content on

And the scavengers (vultures and hyenas) are animals which eat the remains of dead animals. A
food chain, describe the feeding relationships between species to another within an ecosystem,
shows how each living thing gets its food. For example, a simple food chain links the trees and
shrubs, the giraffes (that eat trees shrubs), and the lions (that eat the giraffes). Each link in this
chain is food for the next link. A food chain always starts with plantlife and ends with an animal.
The general structure of an ecosystem is more or less like a pyramid. Each level influences the
number of individual in the other levels. Masses of plants (producers) are at the bottom and support
the whole structure. If the plants that support the food chain are destroyed, the whole system will
collapse. If an animal further up the chain is destroyed, that may cause a population explosion
below and disrupt the balance of the ecosystem (ZAP, n.d.). Intense, short duration trampling and
dunging by grazing animals is a natural part of how ecosystems function in arid and seasonally dry
environments. Removing grazers damages these ecosystems, which depend on disturbance by
grazing animals to perform vital functions such as mulching soil and planting seeds. The intense
trampling that mimics the effects of wild herds has proven effective at healing environmental
damage in grasslands and deserts (Keppel, 2005). Overgrazing has

Why A Monument Is Important Essay
Everyone can learn from the world s history, but we don t always remember its history. This is
where monuments come in handy. Monuments are made in remembrance of an event that people
feel strongly about. Monuments are not just randomly thrown together, or at least shouldn t be.
When making a monument there are a few things that cannot be overlooked or discarded, like the
fact s that people can and will become attached to some monuments, and that the history behind
where the monumentis built and its name are extremely important, and that all monuments must be
created with respectand respected once made. To start things off we will discuss how and why the
attachment that can occur between a monument and a person can not to be overlooked. As I said
before, monuments are built in remembrance of something that people feel strongly about. One of
the many reasons people can feel strongly about a monument or an event is because, that person
may have been there for the event. They could have had a loved one involved in the event, or they
could just feel strongly about what occurred during the event. For many, monuments are places that
they can remember a loved one that has been lost in a tragic event and pay respects to. This causes

A good example of this was in Maine when a fisherman modeled with a lobster for an artist for
the New York s World Fair, however the artist being in such a hurry ended up doing a ill quality job
on the statue. It was passed around for quite a while and no one seemed to want the man and his
lobster (Source F) and it ended up in a storage place eaten by rats before finally being found and
restored to its former glory. This is not what monuments are created for. They are created for
remembrance and should be treated with the utmost respect, so if respect cannot be shown to a
monument, then it should not be

Situation:
Dissatisfaction with the Walk In Clinic is widespread because of waiting time between sign in and
treatment. Patients also found UHS cold, inefficient, and impersonal.
UHS was dealing with two major problems:
How to reduce the waiting time for patients without affecting the quality of service? Also, should
they expand the 13 Nurse Practitioner guidelines and further define roles of Nurse Practitioner and
Physicians within Walk In clinic?

A Summary Of Misogyny In Henry IV Part 1
In Henry IV Part 1, Shakespeare introduces two relationships that seem to be polar opposites of
each other, the married couple, Hotspur and Lady Percy and the newly wedded couple, Mortimer
and Lady Mortimer. Even though Lady Percy and Lady Mortimer did not have key roles in the
play they were significant to the portrayal of their male counterparts and Shakespeare s portrayal
of misogyny in the late 16th century. In the Elizabethan era, women were considered second class
citizens, and weren t allowed the same rights as men, and that misogynistic behavior resulted in
many unhappy marriages. In Shakespeare s play, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer are the only
characters with a happy relationship because they don t exhibit the same sexist attitude as the other
characters; while Hotspur and Lady Percy s relationship is an example of how England s
misogynistic attitude resulted in an unhappy marriage. Lady Percy and Hotspur s marriage is an
example of misogyny because, even though Hotspur is married to Kate, he refuses to treat her as
his equal and instead insults her when she shows concern for his strange behavior. When Lady
Percy questions Hotspur s behavior, Hotspur tells her that:
But hark you, Kate, I must not have you henceforth question me whither I go, nor reason
whereabout. Whither I must, I must, and to conclude, this evening must I leave you, gentle Kate. I
know you wise, but yet no farther wise than Harry Percy s wife. Constant you are, but yet a

The Loss Of Lesbian Identity
The fear of the disappearance of Lesbian identity is not a new one; Lesbianism has a history of
being ignored. In Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence, author Adrienne Rich
contends that through the lens of Compulsory Heterosexuality, Lesbianism is deemed either
Abhorrent or rendered invisible (Rich, 632). While inclusion and cohesion are necessary for
minority groups to gain political clout and recognition, the lack of spaces distinctly for Lesbians
has always been sparse. Grouped in with Gay men, Lesbians lacked a solid political identity
without their male counterparts. Lesbians have historically been deprived of a political existence
through inclusion as female versions of male homosexuality. To equate lesbian existence... Show

Lesbians, like Gay men, Bisexuals, and Trans individuals, deserve unique spaces to discuss issues
exclusive to them. The advancement of Queer identity and the preservation of Lesbian identity do
not need to be mutually exclusive. By is establishing more exclusive spaces for some groups, as
well as more spaces open to all LGBTQ participants, both communities can thrive, However, unlike
these groups which have had an increase in established safe spaces, Lesbian spaces are being either
queered or shut down. This means Lesbians have no places to call their own, or to strengthen their
identities. Lesbian has become a symbol of regressive and exclusionary attitudes; while solidarity
between Lesbians and the Trans community is imperative, Lesbians are entitled to safe spaces and
the autonomy to reject any sexual contact they do not wish to engage in without fear of being
deemed bigoted in response. These conditions, coupled with the negative connotations of
Lesbianism, are not entirely new. Rather, they are the same threats Lesbianism has always
encountered in a different cultural context. These conditions have played a significant role in the
weakening of Lesbian identity. The loss of Lesbian identity and erasure of Lesbian history would be
detrimental to the entire LGBTQ community, as Lesbians have a rich and unique history, as well as
standing in solidarity with other community members. Though it is on the decline, Lesbian identity
will not die until those with exclusive same sex or same gender attraction stop finding solace with
the term. As many women continue to identify with lesbianism, these women deserve to be

Failures Of The Articles Of Confederation
In 1776, the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was formally adopted.
The American Revolution had already been going on with the battles of Lexington and Concord
over a year prior, but the first government of the United States is the Articles of Confederation, a
constitution based on Republican ideas and democracy. The Continental Congress approved the
Articles of Confederation in 1777. It was adopted, written by John Dickinson, but there was a
delay in ratifying it by the states. States like Virginia and Massachusetts had claimed a bunch of
land stretching from the East Coast all the way to the Pacific Ocean as part of their colonial
charters. States like Maryland and Pennsylvania, who did not have these land claims, did not want
to ratify this new national government until the land is relinquished. It was not until in 1781 when
the states officially ratified the Articles of Confederation. From 1781 to 1789, the Articles of
Confederation failed and had created problems in political, economic, and foreign policies, making
this new national government an ineffective government. The Articles of Confederation is a

  • 6. Domestic Violence Effects On Children Essay Domestic violence affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men (NCADV, 2015). Although the devastating effects that domestic violence has on women are well known, there is a population of domestic violence victims that we tend to overlook. These are the children of the women and men who are in domestic violence situations. Children are the invisible victims when it comes to domestic violence. There are many statistics being thrown around when it comes to the number of children who are exposed to domestic violence; they range from as little as 200,000 to even 3 18 million (Sousa et. al., 2011). A 2001 study discovered that in 75% of the cases in their study, children were present in the home during the assaults (Hutchison Hirschel, 2001). Until recently, there have been limited studies focused on the effects of exposure to domestic violence on children. This paper will review various literatures that identify the effects of domestic violence exposure on children. There were many trends in the literatures that were studied but there were two common trends worth mentioning. The first trend was the participants that were used in the studies. Many of the literatures mention that previous studies mainly gathered information from women and children who resided in battered women shelters. The second trend was the methods used for the studies. Many of the studies used surveys and interviews where women and children self reported on their experiences. Organizational structure may change through downsizing, outsourcing, acquisitions, or mergers. In this paper, I will be examining resistance to change during a merger and how to manage this type of stressful and many times unclear change in an organization. There are three key strategies for managing resistance to change; communication, participation, and empathy and support. Throughout this paper I will discuss the three strategies above as well as some other contributing factors to change in an organization. People often resist change based on fear of the unknown, fear of loss, fear of failure, disruption of interpersonal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many times anxiety can grow because employees fear loss of the organizations traditions. It is important to involve employees on the transition or modifications to traditions, celebrations, and other activities that help shape the organizations culture. It is important for both organizations in a merger to be sensitive to the others rituals and ceremonies and to work towards a compromise and build new traditions supported by the majority. Kurt Lewin developed a model of the change process that has stood the test of time and continues to influence the way organizations manage planned change. Lewin s change model is a three step process. The process begins with unfreezing, which is a critical first obstacle in the change process. Unfreezing involves encouraging individuals to shed old behaviors by changing the status quo. The second step in the change process is moving. In the moving stage, new attitudes, values, and behaviors are substituted for old ones. Organizations accomplish moving by initiating new options and explaining the rationale for the change, as well as by providing training to help employees develop the new skills they need. The last step in the change process is Refreezing. In this step, new attitudes, values, and behaviors are established as the new normal. The new ways of operating are concrete and reinforced. • 9. Bio Term Essay Lard WEeduck Dr. Lerdkig Lab Report #2 November 9, 2011 Lab Report: Environmental Control of Sex Determination Introduction Ceratopteris richardii, known as a C fern has a lifecycle referred to as alteration of generations, which consist of neither haploid nor diploid dominant. C ferns are homospours plants which are important in that they can produce hermaphrioditic gametophytes in order to be able to self fertilize. However, some of the homospourous C ferns only produce male gametophytes .The life cycle of Ceratopteris richardii starts as a diploid sporophyte which then, by meiosis, produces haploid spores. These spores then undergo mitosis to produce a haploid gametophyte, which can be either hermaphrodite( producing eggs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Results The graph of our results showed the percentage of male gametophytes increasing and then leveling off (Figure 1). This was our trend because most of the points followed this pattern, however; there was a potential outlier at point (68, 32.3). The distribution of gametophytes on the culture plates varied. Plates A and F had even distribution but were very crowed with gametophytes, while plates D and C were evenly distributed but had less gametophytes. Plate E had clumping of gametophytes in the top left corner and plate B had clumping the the bottom right corner. Figure 1. The relationship between the population density and the percentage of male gametophytes. Discussion The prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would increase as the population density of the gametophytes increased, and the prediction that the percentage of male gametophytes would decrease as the population density of the gametophytes increased were not supported by our results. When the population density was low, the percentage of male gametophytes was relatively low because there would not be enough eggs to fertilize the sperm produced from both the hermaphrodite, and the sperm produced by the male gametophyte. When the population density was high, the percentage of male gametophytes was higher but still less than fifty percent because of the same reasons. The data from our results did support our ... • 10. Right Choices In Michael Lehmann s Heathers Asking a child which snack he prefers, a vegetable or something better suited for dessert, it is more than likely he will choose the tooth rotting goodness of his favorite treat, even if it is against his parents demands. It is quite extraordinary how a child, although in a situation less life changing than an adult may be in, can also make the choice to do something ruthless because it is too irresistible to pass up. Due to this atavistic tendency, the message of making the right choices is ubiquitous in media. In Michael Lehmann s drama Heathers, Veronica Sawyer finds difficulty in assuaging her situation because of her oscillation between choosing to carry out all opportunities to take revenge or to stick to ethics, leading into the idea... • 11. Graduation Selfie Rhetorical Analysis On graduation day, do you focus on being happy? Thinking that you are done and forgetting about how much student debt you have? Nate Beeler, the artist of the cartoon Graduation Selfie captures how that exciting day truly is. Beeler is an editorial cartoonist for the Columbus Dispatch. His work has appeared in an abundance of news programs and other publications. Beeler has also won many awards for his cartoons, such as the Fischetti award in 2014, and the Thomas Nast award in 2010 (The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists). The cartoon is arguing that debt is suffocating to recent college graduates through multiple rhetorical appeals. On college graduation day you tell yourself, I m finally done! but are you really done? The cartoon has a solid light blue background. In the top left corner there is purple box, inside the box it says Graduation Selfie . In the center there is a man in a black cap and gown with his cellphone up, taking a picture of himself with a toothy grin. Wrapped around his lower half is a ... These elements bring depth to the cartoon and give you more to look at than just a snake eating a man. The use of exaggeration on the snake shows that debt is bigger than you and it can be suffocating. Beeler also uses a rhetorical appeal in this cartoon. I believe that the snake wrapping itself around the man and getting ready to eat him shows you pathos, which is appeal to emotion. It is a very relatable topic and by doing this he makes it so that other people can see this and think about how it applies to their own lives, or if they are in the same boat as the man in the ... I believe that his behavior is a perfect case for the psychodynamic perspective because of the family dynamic in his home. These circumstances led to the actions that would become the inspiration for many books and movie characters because of the oddity and extreme nature of his human interactions. Possibly the first crime that Edward committed was killing his older brother. This has significance on the psychological level because Edward s older brother began to disagree with their mother s world perspective and I believe this was the motivation for this crime. When the search lead to his farm not only did the police find that he did murder the victim, but that he had been mutilating scores of corpses. Her body was found hanging by the ankles with her head decapitated from her body. There was also another woman who appeared to be murdered by Gein, and the remains of many other bodies. Edward Gein has reached legendary status because of what he did to the bodies of the women he dug up from the cemetery. There are a total of 37 different miracles attributed to Jesus during his years of ministry on earth; although, there are only eight miracles detailed in the Gospel of John. John is considered to be more sectarian and exclusive than the other three gospels. This book was written to convey and convince all those who read it of the Deity of Jesus. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By virtue of Jesus power, the people s desire for him to be their king was based out of selfishness with what He could offer them, and had remotely nothing to do with the divine revelation of who he was. Unfortunately, this is the mentality that still exist today with believers and nonbelievers alike, a selfish mindset that tends to look for and seek out supply rather than seeking to know the source, which is God. John uses Jesus walking on water as his fifth sign miracle. This shows that Jesus has power over all natural laws. Jesus saw the disciples fighting for their lives on a stormy sea and he walks toward them. The disciples were quite naturally afraid, but when Jesus revealed his identity to them all of their fears were calmed. John does not recant the story of Peter walking on water with Jesus as the book of Mark does, perhaps this is done intentionally not to take the spotlight off of the divine abilities of Jesus, and instead focusing on Peter. The next sign miracle was another demonstration of his ability to heal. Jesus healed a man born blind. This healing prompted a similar reaction from the Pharisees and the Jews that healing the lame man did; although, in this instance it was not done in violation of the Sabbath day. This was the first time Jesus had admitted openly that illness or affliction have been placed on someone for the sole purpose of revealing God s glory. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Minimum Wage Should Be Increased Rebecca Nevins Meredith Sides English 101 16 November 2015 Minimum Wage Should Be Increased Congress enacted the federal minimum wage in 1938, during the Great Depression. Congress had two goals; keeping workers away from poverty and boosting consumer spending for economic recovery. Today, there is a debate, whether we should increase the minimum wageagain. Increasing the minimum wage is useful for several reasons. First, the current minimum wage has failed to keep up with inflation. Second, a higher income level reduces employee turnover and increases efficiency and ultimately, raising the minimum wage does not reduce employment. Even with high unemployment rates, the minimum wage is useful for the economy. Today the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour since July 24, 2009. It has failed to keep up with inflation. The real value of the minimum wage rose steadily from 1938 until its value reached a peak in 1968. Thereafter, it suffered severe erosion as Congress failed to adjust for the inflation over time. The minimum wage of $1.60 an hour in 1968 would be $10.47 today when adjusted for inflation. This means that the purchasing power of the minimum wage has decreased significantly over time. The current minimum wage is no longer enough to protect workers out of poverty. A person who earns the minimum wage and works full time (40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year) only earns about $12,000 in a year. This is almost $7,000 below the poverty line for a family of three ($19,090) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, during the early part of the eighteenth century, there is significant evidence of the term politeness having a definite and specific set of resonances. During sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, politeness was generally used to help in evoking a vision of culture and social life, which is considered to be appropriate to modern times. This vision of politeness, linking cultural refinement and moral improvement, was epitomised in gentlemanly and urbane conversations (Stein van Ostade, 1994). Politeness was found to be mainly a refined condition of social interactions (Atkinson, 1999), while social politeness was found to be paradigmatically conversational. Conversational politeness attempts to pursue verbal agreeableness that is essentially captured in a characteristic vocabulary in the form of phrases and words, such as soft, natural, easy and never tiresome (Stein van Ostade, 1994).Thus, although the actual origins of the subject of politeness were mainly on the basis of social interactions, politeness eventually came to take an essentially exemplary role for general conversations in written discourse. Polite texts were deemed to be specifically conversational in nature. He said, When we seek to artificially enhance our capacity to acquire what we need from the earth, we do so at the direct expense of the earth s ability to provide naturally what we are seeking. We frequently ignore the impact of our technological alchemy on natural processes. When we manufacture millions of internal combustion engines and automate the conversion of oxygen to CO2, we interfere with the earth s ability to cleanse itself of the impurities that are normally removed from the atmosphere. He has led many people to believe that the automobile of today is leaving a terrible and lasting effect on the earth s atmosphere, and that it is one of the primary causes of the term Global Warming. • 33. Essay on The Catiline Conspiracy Sallust, Cicero and the Catiline Conspiracy Both the histories of Sallust and the orations of Cicero can be considered literary works, to a degree. The War With Catiline, by Sallust and The First Speech Against Lucius Sergius Catilina, by Cicero, both contain excellent examples of writings from the age of the great Roman Empire. Although both are fantastic pieces depicting a time of tragedy, the Catiline Conspiracy against Rome, and they both think Catiline as evil, the two are also different. Sallust was an obscure historical writer from the first century BCE. In The War With Catiline, he tells of the conspiracy of Catiline and his plan to bring about civil war in Rome and over power the Senate. Sallust depicts this ... Catiline s biggest mistake might have been that he was all too blatant and outright about his plan. He seemed to have been careless in who overheard his discussions and whom he told. This ultimately led his plans to be discovered. He fled from Rome where he fought in battle until his death. Sallust recounts the history of the Catiline Conspiracy with much detail concerning who was involved and the specific actions taken by both the conspirators and the Senate. Sallust tells it almost as an exciting story where the good is fighting the evil. Cicero was a member of the Senate during the time of Catiline s Conspiracy. His life was many times in danger due to Catiline s hatred of him. His piece shows a first hand point of view of the whole situation. Cicero, in The First Speech Against Lucius Sergius Catilina, delivers a speech proposing what actions should be made to stop Catiline. It is very obvious that Cicero expresses a hatred for Catiline, but surprisingly he does not propose a death sentence for Catiline in fear for his own reputation in the Senate. Though I m sure it would ve been retaliation he would have loved to offer as a personal revenge. Cicero then goes on to accuse Catiline of numerous wrongs he has committed to both the citizens and laws of Rome. All the while Cicero made it quite clear to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Superpowers in WOrld War II In World War, two great superpowers in Europe, Germany and Britain clashed through aerial warfare. Hitler planned to lead the invasion of Britain with the Luftwaffe through intensive attacks against the Royal Air Force in England. Britain was the only nation left standing against the Germans after France was forced to sign an armistice on June 22, 1940; Hitler knew that air power was the only way to reach the isolated island nation. The Battle of Britainlasted from mid June, when Hitler launched Operation Sea Lion, codenamed as such for the invasion of England, to mid September of 1940, when Operation Sea Lion was postponed indefinitely. The Second World War went from September 1st, 1939 to September 2nd, 1945. The German Luftwaffehad a substantial impact on the military, economic and social systems of Britain throughout the Second World War. Britain s air force was a vital part of their military and defence when Hitler attempted to gain air superiority over England through the German Luftwaffe which was led by Hermann GГ¶ering. The radar system used to detect aerial attack in Britain was flawed in the beginning of the war and there was a shortage of anti air craft guns. Radar could not predict the size and height of incoming enemy bombers and lacked detail that was necessary and vital for effective defence preparations. At the start of the Blitz, there were only 92 anti air craft guns to defend London and the guns were outdated with a terrible fire control system. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Absurd Geniuses Of All Time Samuel Beckett, regarded as one of the best Theater of the Absurd geniuses of all time, is an Irish playwright and director of the avant garde. Living in Paris France for the majority of his life, he wrote in both English and French. Using bleak and hopeless themes, his works depict a harsh attack on realism and challenge the very meaning of life. Beckett s works opened the world of theater to many interesting possibilities in drama and fiction. He introduced to theater and novel the idea that the existence of human life is absurd, an idea that is prominent in his writings. Born and raised in Ireland, he excelled in his education at Dublin University and Campbell College before moving to Paris in 1928. Here he was introduced to the profound Irish author, James Joyce, who is regarded as one of the most influential and important authors of the 20th century. Beckett and Joyce assisted in each other s writings, including the book, Finnegans Wake (1939). Finnegans Wake shows some of Beckett s darkness with its themes of sin interpreted in a dreamlike state. This book also inspired Beckett s more comedic approach to the dark and depressing themes in most of his works. Assumption (1929), written by Beckett, was his first of many stories. Consisting of various themes of human nature and Irish folklore, this story was the first of many that could be considered as difficult to understand or just gibberish, due to its syntax being strained to incomprehensibility. • 37. Auteur Theory Essay Andrew Sarris Notes on the Auteur Theory in 1962 lays out the argument of three levels required for a filmmaker to meet the criteria to be a full fledged auteur. In this essay, I will argue and provide evidence for which support Sofia Coppola s place as an auteur. Sofia Coppola is a screenwriter, director, producer, and former actress. She is notable for her use of pastel mise en scene and clothing, high fill lighting, and mix of daydreams and reality. Coppola s background working in high fashion and nearly a decade practicing photography seem to have helped mold her as a distinct filmmaker. Her father s skill may have contributed to her passion and enthusiasm for the same line of work. However, his fame does not take away from her autonomy as both a skillful filmmaker and as an auteur.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to have the distinct style discussed in the next level of auteur theory, one must be able to master the first. Coppola plays upon beginner filmmaker expectations in this first premise by shaking up expectations and standards. Handheld cameras are used significantly less modernly unless to give a shaky, amateur or frightening affect. However, Coppola s use of this technique adds to proof of her talent in this first level of auteur theory. In one hand, the most noticeable final impression of reviewers is that the majority agreed to consider Fantastic Four s Reboot the worst superhero movie ever. On the other hand, almost all of the critics did not blame the actors and actresses to be the reason of the movie s failure. Yet, There were several aspects affected the movie to not be worthy of audience s attention in the Box Office such as visual language superficiality, more realistic and dramatic than a fantasy movie, promising actors and actresses in an under qualified movie, in addition to a confusing trailer. A food chain, describe the feeding relationships between species to another within an ecosystem, shows how each living thing gets its food. For example, a simple food chain links the trees and shrubs, the giraffes (that eat trees shrubs), and the lions (that eat the giraffes). Each link in this chain is food for the next link. A food chain always starts with plantlife and ends with an animal. The general structure of an ecosystem is more or less like a pyramid. Each level influences the number of individual in the other levels. Masses of plants (producers) are at the bottom and support the whole structure. If the plants that support the food chain are destroyed, the whole system will collapse. If an animal further up the chain is destroyed, that may cause a population explosion below and disrupt the balance of the ecosystem (ZAP, n.d.). Intense, short duration trampling and dunging by grazing animals is a natural part of how ecosystems function in arid and seasonally dry environments. Removing grazers damages these ecosystems, which depend on disturbance by grazing animals to perform vital functions such as mulching soil and planting seeds. Monuments are made in remembrance of an event that people feel strongly about. Monuments are not just randomly thrown together, or at least shouldn t be. When making a monument there are a few things that cannot be overlooked or discarded, like the fact s that people can and will become attached to some monuments, and that the history behind where the monumentis built and its name are extremely important, and that all monuments must be created with respectand respected once made. To start things off we will discuss how and why the attachment that can occur between a monument and a person can not to be overlooked. As I said before, monuments are built in remembrance of something that people feel strongly about. One of the many reasons people can feel strongly about a monument or an event is because, that person may have been there for the event. A Summary Of Misogyny In Henry IV Part 1 In Henry IV Part 1, Shakespeare introduces two relationships that seem to be polar opposites of each other, the married couple, Hotspur and Lady Percy and the newly wedded couple, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer. Even though Lady Percy and Lady Mortimer did not have key roles in the play they were significant to the portrayal of their male counterparts and Shakespeare s portrayal of misogyny in the late 16th century. In the Elizabethan era, women were considered second class citizens, and weren t allowed the same rights as men, and that misogynistic behavior resulted in many unhappy marriages. In Shakespeare s play, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer are the only characters with a happy relationship because they don t exhibit the same sexist attitude as the other characters; while Hotspur and Lady Percy s relationship is an example of how England s misogynistic attitude resulted in an unhappy marriage. The Continental Congress approved the Articles of Confederation in 1777. It was adopted, written by John Dickinson, but there was a delay in ratifying it by the states. States like Virginia and Massachusetts had claimed a bunch of land stretching from the East Coast all the way to the Pacific Ocean as part of their colonial charters. States like Maryland and Pennsylvania, who did not have these land claims, did not want to ratify this new national government until the land is relinquished. It was not until in 1781 when the states officially ratified the Articles of Confederation.
