The main objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using English songs to improve vocabulary knowledge among 30 form three students of a government secondary school in Semenyih, Selangor. A vocabulary test (pre-test), an oral survey on attitudes towards learning vocabulary and observation were conducted before the intervention. the intervention – “Let’s learn new words” was carried out with English songs for three times over a three-week course. After the intervention, a post-test, an oral survey on attitudes towards learning vocabulary and observation were conducted. Results at the end of the study revealed that the experimental group experienced an increase in the vocabulary knowledge. Meanwhile, the qualitative results revealed that most of the students have positive attitude towards learning vocabulary after the intervention. All in all, the findings showed that song-based activities are useful tools to reinforce learning of vocabulary by providing an enjoyable classroom atmosphere. Hence, it is highly recommended that English Language teachers use English songs to teach vocabulary in schools.

Dr. Michael West developed a new method for teaching English to Indian children that focused on developing reading ability through silent reading of controlled vocabulary texts. As we all are aware of the fact that English is globally used as a medium of communication which has gained momentum with the emerging trend of internet world, speaking skills should be developed in a more effective way along with three other skills namely Listening, Reading and Writing in-order to enhance communication. This would be beneficial to the native as well as non native speakers of English. In the Indian context, the capability to communicate in English has become important because of its relevance in getting jobs and sitting for campus interviews. We find some Bollywood movies which give emphasis on speaking English like ‘English - Vinglish ’ . It reflects the psychological constraint of an individual who is unable to speak English and hence making efforts to join English classes. This can be a challenging task for all the people who want to learn a non native language .Though Speaking skill is one of the most important skills of communication, yet it is deprived of its importance in our Indian classroom especially in technical institutions where the learners are future engineers and it is expected that the engineering students would acquire the speaking skill from the activities which are discussed in the class. As a result,, these young engineering students and learners of the English language fail to acquire proper training and skill which decreases their confidence to communicate in English

1) Rural English teachers in Pakistan primarily use translation and exam preparation techniques rather than engaging students in activities to develop language skills like speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Final Dissertation Defense_Weinraub_C
This dissertation examines how teachers' knowledge of African American English influences their perceptions and interactions with students who speak this dialect. The study observed 3 classrooms and interviewed the teachers. It found that while teachers were aware of African American English, they lacked training on how to help students code-switch between this dialect and Standard English. As a result, teachers had misconceptions about these students' language abilities and were not effectively implementing strategies to promote their language development. The dissertation concludes that teachers need ongoing professional development and coaching on African American English in order to better support these students' learning.
