2 .MANAGING SERVERS
2.1 NUMBER OF SERVERS
• CA SDM Installation has one (or) more server components as an Administrator you manage

• Every Installation has one Primary Server that manages overall SDM functionality

• Installations have one (or) more secondary servers to manage specific features
2.2 SERVER CONFIGURATION TASKS
• As Administrator , We configure the Primary Server, Secondary Server and Client
     Installations.
• In CA SDM Environment, we perform Start/Stop/Configure Servers (Primary/Secondary)
• CA SDM uses your Database server to store& Retrieve Information.
• We can change CA SDM for following Reasons :
5. Changes in Database management System
6. Changes made to CA SDM start-up template file using pdm_edit.pl
7. Integration with web server as Tomcat
8. Integration with CA EEM
2.3 CONFIGURING TCP/IP
• TCP/IP is controlled by using NX.env file which is found $NX_Root Directory

• We can use NX_PROTOCOL_ONLY<Mode> where mode can be IPV4,IPV6,mixed.

• Mixed mode  Opens up the sockets for slump processes that listen to IPV4 & IPV6
2.4 CHANGE SERVER CONFIGURATION
• We use configuration utility to make change to Server Configuration .
• We can configure our system to use SSL on a Tomcat Server

To Change Server Configuration

Start  Programs  CA  CA SDM  Configuration  Complete on-screen Instructions..
2.5 ITIL CONFIGURATION
• Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), is a set of Best Practices in Computer
    Data Center Management
• CA SDM supports only ITIL Interface
• CA SDM specifically addresses Incident, Problem, Change & Configuration Management
• Request , Change Order , Issue, Incident & Problem are types of Tickets available
• CA SDM supports ITIL Terminology for (PDA) Interface.
2.6 START SECONDARY SERVER
• We must start secondary server prior to starting Primary Server if Installation have one (or)
    more Secondary Servers.

• Pdm_proctor_init is used to start CA SDM Secondary server

• In Windows , We uses “services.msc”  Start the required service
2.7 START PRIMARY SERVER
• Every CA SDM Installation has one primary Server that handles basic Product Functionality

• pdm_init is used to start CA SDM Server from command line

• Pdm_Status is used to display Status of Primary/Server CA SDM server running on any
    environment
2.8 STOP A SERVER
• In Windows , Start  Run  services.msc, @ Services :
CA Service Desk Manager  Primary Server
CA Service Desk manager Remote Proctor  Secondary Server

• In Unix, pdm_halt utility is used to stop server.
