Management As An
ART
What is Management ?
Management
• Management in business and organizations is
the function that coordinates the efforts of
people to accomplish goals and objectives
using available resources efficiently and
effectively.
• Management comprises planning, organizing
staffing leading or directing, and controlling
an organization
Mukit
“Management is the art of knowing what you
want to do and then seeing that they do it in
the best and the cheapest may”
According to
F.W. Taylor
Mukit
What is Art ?
• Art refers to the skill to put into action,
a systematic body of knowledge, for
the achievement of a specific task.
• Art is the skillful and personal
application of existing knowledge to
achieve desired result. It can be
acquired through study, observation
and experience.

PRACTICAL
KNOWLEDGE
Every art requires practical knowledge
therefore learning of theory is not
sufficient. It is very important to know
practical application of theoretical
principles.
E.g. A manager can never be successful
just by obtaining degree or diploma in
management: he must have also known
how to apply various principles in real
situations, by functioning as a manager.
Gourav
Gourav
Each one has his own style and approach
towards his job. That is why the level of success
and quality of performance differs from one
person to another.
E.g. There are several qualified painters but
M.F. Hussain is recognized for his style. Similarly
management as an art is also personalized.
Every manager has his own way of managing
things based on his knowledge, experience and
personality, that is why some managers are
more effective than the others.
PERSONAL SKILL
Avantika
Avantika
Practice makes a man perfect.
Every artist becomes more and more proficient
through constant practice.
Similarly managers learn through an art of trial
and error initially but application of
management principles over the years makes
them perfect in the job of managing
PERFECTION
THROUGH
PRACTICE
Shrutika
Shrutika
CREATIVITY Every artist has an element of creativity in line.
That is why he aims at producing something
that has never existed before which requires
combination of Intelligence & Imagination
Management is also creative in nature like any
other art.
It combines human and non-human resources
in an useful way so as to achieve desired
results.

GOAL ORIENTED Every art is result oriented as it seeks to
achieve concrete results.
In the same manner, management is also
directed towards accomplishment of pre-
determined goals.
Managers use various resources like men,
money, material, machinery &methods to help
in the growth of an organization.

Adarsh
Apurva
We all know people who have vision but no skill in implementing
it; we call them dreamers. In the arts they are the habitués of
cafés who constantly talk about “work in progress” that is never
completed. Others we know possess highly honed skills but no
visions to work on.
Sawan/Mukit
Organizing others’ talents
We may ask how a manager acquires a master’s knowledge of
his materials. Like an architect wishing to transcend the limits
of previous construction methods, he must study the nature of
his materials and experiment with their possibilities. If a
manager believes all people in his charge to be homogeneous
material that can be shaped into any form by the chisels of
marketplace pressures, he has a very primitive outlook on
motivation.
Mitali
But management is not considered a profession
because it needs a minimum number of
qualifications, it's essential for its' practitioners to
register themselves with a professional body
(though that's not obligatory)
Shruti/Apurva
As all the criteria of art are satisfied by
management, it qualities as an . All management
practices are based on the same set principles:
what distinguishes a successful manager from a
less successful one is the ability to put these
principles into practice.
