Editor's Notes
it’s an awareness ribbon for malnutrition.
Good Afternoon Everyone. I’m Riman Mandal from MCA 1st year and I have my project partner Antara Bhadra with me. Today we will be discussing on Malnutrition in India.
The orange ribbon is a symbol adopted for a very wide variety of uses in different countries of world for different aspects. In most recent times orange ribbon symbolizes awareness for malnutrition.
We mainly focusing on the malnutrition stunting growth in Indian Children through our presentation.
The Points which would be discussed through out our presentation are….
Now first we will discuss what is Nutrition? Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body’s dietary needs. To specify it’s the sum of the processes by which an animal or plant takes in and utilizes food substances.
And now we will define the word MALNUTRITION. The term Mal- stands for imperfect. So the meaning of Malnutrition is mal adjusted nutrition, i.e., imperfect nutrition.
The Malnourished can no longer maintain natural bodily capacities, such as growth. They resist infections and recover from disease, learn and physical work, and pregnancy and lactation in women. (Poor feeding of infants and young children, especially)
Now we will see what are the reasons behind this malnutrition.
The lack of optimal breastfeeding and responsive complementary feeding are some major cause of under nutrition. Along with this illnesses such as diarrhoea, pneumonia, malaria and HIV/AIDS are also considered as major causes of Malnutrition.
The proper nutrition for baby depends on whether the mother is taking good care of herself & the baby in her womb.
If the mother is not well-nourished during the pregnancy, then the child might be malnourished.
And also Iron, folic acid, vitamin c, & iodine deficiency can lead to a malnourished baby.
Now my friend Antara will take you through the rest of the presentation…..
We can see that India is the leading country to underweight burden among the other countries in the world. Among all the underweighted children cases in the whole world India contributes 42% of them.
