We recently hosted the much-anticipated Community Skill Builders Workshop during our June online meeting. This event was a culmination of six months of listening to your feedback and crafting solutions to better support your PMI journey. Here’s a look back at what happened and the exciting developments that emerged from our collaborative efforts.

We were thrilled to see a diverse group of attendees, including local certified PMI trainers and both new and experienced members eager to contribute their perspectives. The workshop was structured into three dynamic discussion sessions, each led by our dedicated membership advocates.

Making the Doll's House
- 2. I applied a base layer of white paint to the walls to remove the childlike designs that were on there. With this done I could then tarnish it and make it look grotty. I laid the kitchen floor with paper looking like tiles to make it look more like a real home and add realism to it. I put paper and lighter fluid in one of the rooms and set it on fire. This meant that the room had burn marks to ruin it and make it look like someone who doesn’t care lives there. I cut up a bin bag and made small bin bags by filling them with a scrunched up piece of paper. This adds a messy realism.
- 3. I glued wallpaper onto one of the walls and ripped it on sections to make it look rougher. I painted it brown/yellow/green under the rips to look like mould or damp. I also peeled some of the paint off. I made a sofa out of cardboard and sponge then covered it in an old t shirt. I then added paint and some tea to make it look rotten and mouldy.
- 4. To add a realism to the doll's house I have added lots of small details that would be seen in a real crack den. I researched what a crack den looks like and I printed posters out in a scale size to make it look lived in. I chose to use film posters and other things that the average person would recognise so that there was a cultural relevance. I made sure that there was lots of detail like the accurate scale model of June 2013’s copy of Playboy. These small details are what makes the bigger picture look real.
- 5. I then took photographs of the dolls’ house. I took the photos in RAW which allowed me to blow them up to be as big as I wanted. I decided that a square on photo of the house would be best for the front image in order to show off each room. I used lights to make sure that the shots each had an adequate amount of light so you can see what is going on in each room.
- 6. I went through each photo and edited them on photoshop. I used the colour sliders to make sure that I had a photo that looked grimy and dull. Using a digital technology like photoshop meant that I could experiment and do several copies. This means that I can discover new looks for the photographs that I hadn’t thought about before editing. Photoshop also meant that I could add layer so I could build up the whole digipak and have lots of details outside the photos.
