First Shoot Commentary
Studio
The first location I filmed was in an art studio, that I had to re-arrange to make the room look like an office
for my character. This meant I used the props of a computer and some office stationary to make it look
like a work environment, and to imply to the audience he was in a fantasy, I made a professional looking
employee of the month poster. For the lighting, I used some display lights from the studio for backlighting,
and a LED light with the computer screen for the front of my subject. To make the subject pop from the
background, the lighting in the background is warmer than the cool LED lights in the front. I also used this
setup so that when the lights turn off, his face stays lit from the screen (and LED). For the sound, I used a
shotgun mic attached to my camera, however this gave my rather inconsistent audio, so I will have to hide
this by editing the levels in post and by using music. On the camera side, I tried to vary the shots I used in
the office to prevent his work becoming boring, so I decided to add in a cup of tea being delivered to break
the silence, but this was an impromptu decision so it's not in my storyboard.

Sharpness Docks
The second location was at Sharpness Docks, where I wanted to film the first character interaction by the
river. Equipment wise, I used a flycam stabilizer to do a long tracking shot where I follow my protagonist
from a car to the front. This creates the dreamy look that has connotations linking to the fantasy he has
created. For the conversation, I tired to do a multi angle set up, which caused a challenge, as the
characters improvisation meant it was hard to keep it consistent. I also had audio issues when using the
shotgun mic, as It was picking up distant high frequency sound from an industrial drill, so sometimes it's in
the background and sometimes not. To overcome this, I am going to try and re dub the audio over the top,
but if that doesn't work I will have to re film it.

Car Park/Street
To film the shots in the car, We went to an empty car park on private land. I wanted this shoot to be quick
as it would take up a small proportion of the film, and it was the end of the filming day, so I used a
handheld set up inside the car to get the over shoulder shot, and then rested the camera on the floor for
the low shot. I also wanted a transition shot of the protagonist walking through a town to give a sense the
location was populated, making his fantasy more realistic.
