WHAT IS UI / UX?
And so we beginโ€ฆ
WHAT IS UI/UX DESIGN?
USER INTERFACE DESIGN
User interface (UI) design is the process of
designing interface layouts and interactions
to make them as intuitive, ef๏ฌcient and
productive as possible.
Make it look good and make sense.
USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN
User experience (UX) design is the process
of enhancing customer satisfaction and
loyalty by improving the usability, ease of
use, and enjoyment provided in the
interaction between the user and the
application.
Make it easy and pleasurable to use. โ€จ
Donโ€™t make me think or work harder than
I have to.
UI is the steering wheel, gear lever, pedals
and dashboard of a well designed car.
UX is the feeling you get from driving a well
designed car on an open road.
THE CAR ANALOGY
THE VALUE OF GOOD DESIGN
Both serve the same function, both have driver interfaces, both offer driving experiences.
However, one may be considered to have a better interface and offer a better experience.
Continuing the car analogy, here are two cars.
THE BENEFITS HOW UI/UX BENEFITS BUSINESSES
Good UI/UX design can be the difference between a system that gets adopted or not.
Encourage Useโ€จ
The easier and more enjoyable a system is to use, the more likely people are to use it โ€“ staff
bene๏ฌt from easier work process; customers bene๏ฌt from an easy to use system, resulting
in customer retention.
Increase Productivityโ€จ
Good UX minimises user fatigue, increases output, reduces error and improves ef๏ฌciency.
Saves Moneyโ€จ
By encouraging use and increasing productivity, time and costs decrease.

EVERYDAY APPS
DONโ€™T MAKE ME THINK!
A UX DESIGNERS JOB IS TO BE INSIDE A USERโ€™S BRAIN. LOOK AT DESIGN FROM THE MIND-SPACE OF A USER /
USERS AND SQUASH POTENTIAL PROBLEMS OR CONFUSION.
KEEPING IT SIMPLE
PRINCIPLES OF SIMPLE
Digestibleโ€จ
Good design is easy to digest โ€” the brain shouldnโ€™t have to expend a lot of energy ๏ฌguring out what itโ€™s looking at. With any
luck, people will just โ€œget itโ€ without needing a 6-section explanation.
Clarityโ€จ
Make things as clear as you can.
Trustโ€จ
Before asking someone to complete an action, make every effort to help them understand why the task is needed. Being
honest and clear builds trust at each step.
Familiarityโ€จ
โ€œGround-breaking design is awesome, but design that converts is better.โ€
Delightโ€จ
The ultimate delight is when someone forgets your product is a โ€œproductโ€ โ€” where itโ€™s so useful that it doesnโ€™t even read as a
product anymore, just simply as some useful thing in a personโ€™s life.
AND WHY KEEP IT SIMPLE?
โ€ฃ People have much shorter attention
spans today
โ€ฃ Simple is more convenient for the user
โ€ฃ Complicated products are likely to
have more feature creeps
โ€ฃ Simple is often more enjoyableโ€จ
THANK YOU!
