Bauer Media is a multimedia company which functions in more
than 10 countries of the world. Its headquarters are located in
Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1875 and was managed
by the Bauer family for 5 generations.
Originally a small printing house in Germany, Bauer Media
Group entered the UK with the launch of Bella magazine in
1987 and, under the name of H Bauer Publishing became
Britain's third largest publisher. Bauer further expanded in the
UK with the purchase of Emap Consumer Media and Emap
Radio in 2008. And Bauer Media also owns Australia’s biggest
magazine publisher, ACP Magazinesv
Bauer Media Company produces magazines with both
mainstream and niche audiences. Few of the mainstream
magazines are Kerrang!, Empire and Q, which target young
audiences. Some of the examples for the niche magazines are
those of with topics of fishing and sports like golf which may be
interesting for an older audience. Bauer Media is a very
reliable company with more than 19 million consumers per
week, which can be explained by the diverse audience it has.
Time Inc. UK is a consumer magazine and digital
publisher based in the UK which was founded in the
1950’s. The magazines they create are both
mainstream and niche with the genre of music,
photography, sports, women, television and etc.
Examples of these are NME, which is one of the
leading music magazines in the UK, Women’s Weekly,
one of the most popular women magazine aimed for
older women.
The target audience of the company is over 26 million
of UK residents with almost 2/3 of the UK women and
42% male audiences. Time Inc. UK is committed to
working in partnership with its consumers, advertisers,
business partners and employees to deliver exceptional
value, service, innovation and creativity. Time Inc. UK is
one of the branches of an American-based multinational
media corporation, called Time Warner Company.
Immediate Media Company is a recent combined publishing
houses founded in November 2011. The headquarters of the
company are located in London and Bristol, UK.
The magazines produced by the company is a mixture of both
mainstream and niche audiences. Music magazines such as
Top of the Pops is a very mainstream magazine aimed at
teenagers and a food channel Good Food is also mainstream.
The company has over 60+ consumer titles with nationwide
spread of 8.2 million magazines per annum and a worldwide
spread of 27 million digital publications per month. Immediate
Media Company produces Radio Times, Top Gear, BBC Good
Food, Gardeners' World and a host of other much-loved
consumer magazine brands linked to BBC programming.
Out of all these magazine publishing companies I presented above, I
would probably go for Bauer Media. Because it is more widespread
internationally and owns one of the biggest publishing companies in other
countries. So this will make my magazine more popular around the world
and can increase the amount of readers/target audience and profit I can
get.
