He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

owned media group. It was founded in Hamburg in 1875

The Bauer Media Group
3. In the UK they have over 25 million
consumers. Their portfolio includes heat,
KISS, TV Choice, Take a Break, Magic,
Absolute Radio and many more. Because they
are such a big company and because of the
breadth of their portfolio, they have an
advantage over radio competitors.
They have strong cultural connections,
drawing people together with the things that
they really care about.
“Our brands become the lens through which our audiences see the world. Our
focus is on deep consumer insight and instinct, and when they collide, the
sparks fly!”
4. As of today, they are Britain’s biggest magazine
publisher.
Their first magazine was made in 1953 with the launch
of Angling Times, which is still within their portfolio.
More recently, Closer was launched in 2002 and Britain’s
first weekly glossy, Grazia, was launched in 2005. They
have Take A Break, which has for a long time been the
UK’s best-selling women’s weekly title, and TV Choice,
the UK’s biggest selling magazine.
Today they have 40 million users accessing Bauer brands globally and in the UK,
they have over 100 websites and 50 digital editions of their print brands.
5. In 1996, they got the TV channel The Box,
that is now Box Plus Network, joint with
Channel4. Box Plus Network reaches 16
million viewers per month, and offering more
music than any other TV network. Box Plus
Network brands include 4Music, KISS,
Magic, and Kerrang.
6. Bauer Medias radio business started with London dance
station KISS FM in the 90’s. Now they operate 81
commercial local, national and digital stations in the UK.
Bauer Media UK has the biggest radio audience. In March
2016, Bauer Media began broadcasting six of its national
radio stations on the UK’s second national DAB digital radio
multiplex network.
Bauer Media UK has also expanded its radio operation in to
Europe. SBS radio reaches more than 10 million listeners
weekly, through 20 highly demanded brands make it the
leading commercial radio operator in Sweden and
Denmark. And in February 2016, the KISS brand launched
in Norway and Finland, with KISSTORY now also on-air in
Norway.
8. How this research has helped me to understand institutions
I think Bauer is a brilliant institution. It has so many well know brands
and is Europe’s largest privately-owned media group. Their cultural
connections really draw people together and unite them through
something the care about and I think this is wonderful.
Bauer also researches young audiences, i.e the Millenials, so they appeal
to so many. Bauer media is my favourite institution I have discovered so
far and I think this will be hard to beat.
