2. Masthead
The masthead contains the name of the
magazine brand, the font however has been
done in red the reason being for this likely is due
to the colour correlation that there is between
red and blood, which goes with the genre of the
magazine on fitness (the human body) as well as
this the masthead is behind the models head,
the reason being for this could be the magazines
way of saying that the model is more important
than the brand.
Strap-line
The strap line starts by using the word “special” this naturally
gets the viewer excited followed by the word “edition” which
makes the viewer think they are getting a special copy of
whatever is inside the magazine, as well as this it is in the colour
blue, this as a result when next to red, white and black makes
the strap-line stand out meaning it is something which the
magazine creators want the viewer to give there attention to.
Main cover line
The main cover line is in a bold font style
followed by a exclamation mark at the end of
it, the combination of these two elements
adds excitement to the lines as well as makes
it almost more eye grabbing than the
dominate image, as well as this the use of the
word “gold-medal” is suggesting that of great
value to the statement another element
about the two lines that looks appealing to a
viewer.
Barcode
The barcode is in the bottom right of the
magazine with the price, the barcode is small so
that it does not draw a lot of attention from the
viewer as well as this at the same time it is the
default colour of a barcode over the black and
white so that it does not look out of place.
Dominant Image
The dominant image has been done in Black white this
could possibly have the hidden meaning the model will
make history as we associate black and white with the
past, or it could have also been done to go along with
the main cover line “GOLD-MEDAL ABS!” perhaps the
models photograph has been done in black and white to
almost represent silver and that the model isn't at gold
yet suggesting that there is still work that needs to be
done even at that level of fitness.
Colour scheme
The colour scheme consists dominantly of five colours (blue, yellow,
red, white and black) however why I believe that the magazine has
been designed the way it has is due to the dominate image, what I
mean by this is I believe that the dominate image was done
purposely in black and white so that the rest of the magazines
features could be done in colour to almost add flavor to the front
cover and to almost add a secondary element to grab the viewers
attention next to the dominant image.
3. Masthead
The mast head is in a thick font style which no other
information on the page has been typed in, as well as
this it is also at the top of the page so that the viewer
instantly knows what page they are on resulting in the
magazine looking well organized and planned out as it
has been done in a way where the viewer knowns what
magazine page they are on.
Dominant image
The dominant image shows a women
smiling looking confident in her facial
expression, as well as this the dominant
image takes up the entirety of the page
(showing no dominant images) this could
of possibly been done so that the
magazine could include more
information as well as so that the
magazine could focus on having the one
quality image for its content page.
Features
The features of the magazine are basic in
there layout however heavily detailed for
such a small area of the page, the top line
leads to a small description of the who I
believe it is on about the model saying what
page to turn to for information about her, the
second line leads to sub-headings that tell the
viewer what pages they should turn to if they
want to know certain pieces of information,
the third line leads to photographer and
article credit (as far as I believe) whilst the
final line leads to a paragraph giving a handful
of information on the topic of the
photographer and talking about there work.
Essential information
At the top of the page is the date which
says when the magazines information
is released/from, the word May is in
orange obviously to go with the theme
of the pages colour scheme, as well as
this the date is the biggest part of text
on the page other than the word
”Content ” this has likely been done to
show the level of importance which the
magazine believes the date has in the
sense of how much it wants the viewer
to know it, the date is also repeated at
the bottom of the magazine why I
believe that this has been done is as a
reminder to the viewer.
Mini article
The mini article has been placed in the bottom right corner of the
page, the reason why I believe that this could of possibly been is
to show how much the photographer/magazine want the viewer
to admire the dominant image and give all of there attention to
it, as well as this the article also contains contact details it would
appear, as it has a mobile number, possibly showing that the
magazine creators have multiple mediums and even ways of
being contacted.
4. Advert one
Article one
The advert shows to some degree a sense of
humor as it shows a man holding onto a cliff
with very little grip, this is obviously the
magazines way of exaggerating there
product by saying that it gives you abnormal
strength, the model themselves is shown
doing two things at once as they are shown
drinking the product while at the same time
they are also shown holding onto the cliff,
this gives me the idea for when I m with my
own model as to ho I could show my model
doing what would normally not seem
possible as I could advertise one of the gyms
and show my friend finding one of the
machines easy to handle.
The masthead of the advert says “MILK for
REAL MEN” what this could be a reference to
is a baby being breast fed possibly saying
that this is a product for those who are no
longer “children” clearly showing that this
product is aimed at the manly audience while
at the same time it could also be a way of the
product almost making the viewer feel
insecure and as though they need this item
to fit into a certain group of people.
Other than what has already been spoken about the advert contains a small paragraph of information as
well as a small sub image of the product, why I believe that these have been placed close to the bottom is
due to the over exaggeration that the dominant image alone achieves, as well as this the advert appears
to have no dominant colour scheme although it has been noticed that the colours red, white and black
appear commonly throughout when looking from top to bottom.
The articles text itself
The article text itself comes across as almost interview style (in
the way which it has been written) as well as this the article is
coming across as persuasive in the way which it has been written
as it talks about someone (who I imagen has a following) has
turned there life around through this healthy eating which seems
to be the focus of this page, if anything this article will prove
influential to me as it shows how I can advertise my product in a
way which I make the viewer believe that it is almost the solution
(healthy eating that being) to a healthier lifestyle.
Images and there effect
The article has no dominant images, instead it
has a number of sub images which are a
combination of scattered and organized
around the page, as well as this the images
show a variety of colours as well as this they
also show a mix of props and models, why I
believe it has this variety is possibly to show
the viewer a variety of topics as well as so that
the viewer has a variety of subjects which they
could possibly be interested in.
The masthead/ slogan
The masthead is in the colour pink and above
a large majority of the information, the colour
pink would correlate and suggest that this
page is intended more for a female audience,
as well as this the fact the words are a
different colour to that of the rest of the pages
font would suggest that it is something which
the creator of the page wants the viewer to
especially give there attention to.
Essential information
From analyzing the page the only essential
information which I can see would be that in
the bottom left stating the page number as well
as saying what is the topic on the page, there is
no symbolism or meaning to this other than I
believe it has likely been put in the bottom left
corner to be out of the viewers site.
5. Masthead
The mast head is at the top of page as well as this it is shown behind the celebrity in
the dominant image, the reason being for this is due to them (in David Beckhams case)
being more successful and recognizable than the magazines brand, this as a result
would mean that the magazine wants to have the model as central of attention as
possible to increase the chance of the magazine catching people who pass its eyes, as
well as this what the magazine could also be trying to say is that perhaps the model is
the definition “men's health” and the magazine is trying to say this is what a healthy
lifestyle looks like to some degree.
Strap- Line
The strap-line is smaller than the
masthead suggesting that it is almost
something which the magazine is trying
to slide and not so much something that
the magazine wants to give massive
attention to, the colour itself is black
which makes it stand out from the
masthead however at the same time the
colour goes with the theme of the
magazine.
Main cover line
The cover line is direct and aimed at the viewer hence the use
of the words “get back” this as a result gives the magazine
attitude while at the same time it almost shows that the
magazine stands for something which it is trying to get into
the viewers head, the cover line is also all in capitals as well as
this it is also almost as high as the masthead which again
shows the level of importance which the magazine sees this
cover line.
Dominant image
The dominant image shows a celebrity by the name “David Beckham”
who is a well known skilled footballer, by using him for the magazines
dominant image is going to attract people who are fans of his playing
style as well as people who don’t know who he is but recognize him
possibly, this as a result would mean that either way the magazine
would get attention due to his “image” being on the magazine (I mean
the legacy type of image).
Colour scheme
The colour scheme of the magazine
follows the signature style of men's
health which consists of primarily red,
blacks and whites with the addition of
yellow and blue/grey here and there, the
reason being for these colours is to some
degree obvious as the it is clearly done to
look professional and aimed at its age
audience however at the same time I do
believe to some degree it is done in an
attempt for the magazine top almost
come across as masculine, as colours
such as red and blue and even black to
some degree we often associate with the
male gender.
6. Masthead
What makes this content page unique is
how small they have chosen to do the
masthead as well as how almost to the
corner they have put it almost as though
the creator does not want the viewer to
give any of there attention to this area of
the magazine and instead want them to
focus on the other areas of the content
page, this in other ways could be the
magazines way of saying the information on
the page is more important than the
magazine itself.
Dominant image
The dominant image is shown with the model
up close as well as looking down and focused,
as well as this unlike the other content page
the dominant image does not take up the
whole page or have a white background
showing this background in a low key style to
get more of the detail on the skin out there.
Sub image
The content page shows two sub images one of which is on the
topic of beauty where as the other is on the topic of love, this as
a result shows that the magazine is aimed more at a female
audience as oppose to that of a male, as well as this the sub
images have page numbers on them likely for the viewers who
want to quickly find the information they want, it would also
appear that the dominant images show colours that primarily
resemble that of the colour scheme of the page as a whole so
that they do not seem out of place it would appear.
Features
The features on this page/sub heading
show the page numbers for other
pieces of information while at the same
time they also a variety of subjects as
well as are primarily to the right side in
terms of the page layout.
Essential information
The only essential information that the content page
shows is the date at the top and then the date at the
bottom, the likely reason for this is probably due to if
the viewer is drawn in by the information on the page
then they will see the website link at the bottom.
7. Advert two Article two
What I like about this advert is how
up close and up front it is in the
dominant image, the reason being
why I like this is because it allows for
the viewer to see the food in high
detail, as well as this it also allows
the viewer to see what it in the food
before they have even read or
bought the product, as a result of
this up close photograph of the
image this means that the layout of
the advert is based around the image
making it the central of attention as
well as the only real thing which the
viewer can give there attention to,
although there is no masthead image
on the advert saying the brand,
there is the word “new” this as a
result creates excitement for the
viewer when read, as well as this in
the bottom right of the advert there
is a sub image of the product
showing what exactly it is that the
viewers giving there attention to.
What I find influential about this advert is it gives me an idea for how I could create an advert for
healthy eating, as well as this it also gives me an idea on camera angles for taking photographs of
food as opposed to that of models, as for my magazine ect I plan to embrace the healthy food
aspect as much as the fitness in the sense both receive just as much attention.
Dominant image and sub images
The dominant image shows a boot and glove worn out,
possibly representing of the hard work which one must do in
fitness or even in the most basic of activity, as for the sub
images they show what appears to be someone on a
mountains and people in front of tents, this could possibly be
showing what can be achieved by fitness or even giving
seeming to motivate the viewer.
The articles information
The articles information itself is on the topic of mountain climbing as
well as the attempt to only climb higher, the reason being I chose this
article in particle while it is not directly linked to fitness it can be looked
at as this is what can almost be achieved from it as well as its
achievements such as this which can be achieved through the hard work
and dedication aspect.
Quote
The ”Because it is There” adds a sense
of mystery to the viewers mind in the
sense it only rises questions, as to what
is there as well as the sense of why
should I want to see what's there.
Essential information
The only essential information which
the page contains which is important
is the page number as well as brand
that is connected to the page, there is
then a small description of what the
images are and then long the side
there is what appears to be credit
given to the photographer/article
writer.
