colours: red, white and black. Mirrors colours of
main image e.g red hair black eye makeup, pale white
skin , white t-shirt and whites of eyes etc.
Masthead
Large bold white font in top corner of page,
contrast with red of main image, stands out and
draws attention to masthead. Simple three
letters(memorable) neatly organized into rectangle.
Typefaces
Clear bold fonts, sans serif styled fonts and thin clear
and well spaced text all feature in this magazine
design.
Main image
Direct adress from model, vibrant red hair adds
colour to the cover and frames edges of page. Face
is centred to the page slightly off angle to give a
more interesting composition.
Photography Lighting
Photographer has used white artificial lighting / soft
box to produce soft washed out look of her skin. Hair,
eyes and skin of model have been heavily edited.
Model credit
Model credit ‘Florence’ in similar font style to
masthead. In a darker grey/black colour less of a
contrast to the red of the main image and so blends
in more than masthead, less important. Mirrored in
position with masthead to add balance to design.
Again text forms a rectangular shape.
Coverlines
cover lines in white again contrasting with red of
main image and stands out. sans serif / similar
text to model credit. Frames face of model in centre
of cover .
Design Principles Used?
The layout of the text definitely frames the face of
the model in the main image. The model credit, main
cover line and mast head all line up on the left hand
side of the page (draws most attention to the left)
Follows basic colour principle of three classic colours
red, white and black.

House Style
Mast head ‘NME’ features in all nme magazines with same
font style though changes colour occasionally. Is consistently
placed in top left hand corner of page.
