ABN Amro's Innovation Circl supported the University SDG Challenge in 2020, a programme where 10+ universities in the Netherlands compete with a team of top students in solving Sustainable Development Goals - related challenges of corporates and governmental organisations.

Slavery Module: Lesson three
1. The triangular slave trade involved three main steps: slaves were brought from Africa to the Americas, cash crops like cotton and tobacco grown by slaves in the Americas were traded for manufactured goods in England, and the goods were brought back to Africa to trade for more slaves, completing the triangle.
2. Conditions on slave ships were horrific. Slaves were packed tightly into the ships in inhumane conditions where many died of disease or suffocation before reaching the Americas.
3. Southern slave owners believed blacks were racially inferior and used this belief to justify harsh treatment of slaves and the institution of slavery overall.

We are witnessing an “assault” on universities (Bailey and Freedman, 2011) and the future of higher education and its institutions is being “gambled.” (McGettigan, 2013) For many years now, we have been warned that our institutions are in “ruins” (Readings, 1997). We campaign for the “public university” (Holmwood, 2011) but in the knowledge that we work for private corporations, where academic labour is increasingly subject to the regulation of performative technologies (Ball, 2003) and where the means of knowledge production is being consolidated under the control of an executive. We want the cops off our campus but lack a form of institutional governance that gives teachers and students a right to the university. (Bhandar, 2013)
Outside the university, there is an institutional form that attempts to address issues of ownership and control over the means of production and constitute a radical form of democracy among those involved. Worker co-operatives are a form of ‘producer co- operative’ constituted on the values of autonomy, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. In most cases the assets (the ‘means of production’) of the co-operative are held under ‘common ownership’, a social form of property that goes beyond the distinction between private and public.
I begin this paper by discussing the recent work of academics and activists to identify the advantages and issues relating to co-operative forms of higher education. I then focus in particular on the ‘worker co-operative’ organisational form and discuss its applicability and suitability to the governance of and practices within higher educational institutions. Finally, I align the values and principles of worker co-ops with the critical pedagogic theory of ‘Student as Producer’.

Through learning Photoshop and InDesign in the course, they have significantly improved their editing, design, and layout skills. Their knowledge of software like Photoshop and InDesign was very limited before, but now they feel confident using these programs to create more complex magazines that better meet their target audience's needs and preferences.
Reflections
Samuel Fielden has been working on creating various advertisements for an energy drink product called Target as part of a project. This included designing billboard advertisements, packaging designs for the drink cans, posters, social media ads, and a video advertisement. In his reflections, he discusses the successes and challenges of each element, and how he plans to improve or expand the project in the future steps. The main tasks completed included practicing new skills like using green screen effects and layering designs. His next steps are to finish the video advertisement and develop a presentation displaying the full advertising campaign.

Project 5 - Evaluation
The student conducted research on magazines and products similar to their proposed tech magazine. They planned the magazine layout to discuss ongoing issues related to PC parts and other tech news. The student managed their time well to research, plan, and start designing the magazine layout and articles. When comparing to similar products, the magazine had a similar focus but used a dark color scheme and simplistic layout. The target audience was males aged 18-24 who would find the in-depth articles appealing. Peer feedback suggested improvements could be made to parts of the layout being too complex. The student agreed some layout parts could be improved but disagreed with other peer feedback.
