The Rochester Recycle Project aimed to reduce waste and costs at a manufacturing facility by implementing recycling processes. A cross-departmental team used Lean techniques like defining the problem, measuring waste, analyzing sources, improving processes, and controlling outcomes. They identified recyclable materials, standardized operating procedures, and monitored progress. The project saved $380,000 to date and increased customer and employee support. Recommendations included using project management software, setting timelines, clarifying objectives, and involving all shifts' supervisors.
