Luigi Croce describes a study focusing on the profile of children with intellectual disabilities conducted in Milan. A more profound understanding of the quality of life profile of people with disabilities who use services, may yield a better definition of users thus improving the services provided.
The document discusses how technology has changed the author's life and the implications for education. As a child, the author's first technology was a Nintendo, and a desktop computer later changed how they used technology. In school, the author used computers, email, and other technologies. Now, the author relies heavily on devices daily. For education, students today have always had technology and it must be incorporated into learning. Teachers need to teach digital skills. One way to learn new technologies is through personal learning networks where educators can connect and share ideas online.
Estas son algunas de las ideas que permanentemente comparto en asesorías y conferencias, sobre la necesidad de evolucionar los esquemas tradicionales de liderazgo como sinónimo de autoridad y poder.

Steven Eidelman: What`s Wrong with Hostels, Villages, Intentional Communities...Beitissie1
This document summarizes a lecture given by Steven Eidelman on the disadvantages of large residential facilities like institutions, villages, and hostels for people with disabilities. The lecture discusses how community living aligned with principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, including autonomy and inclusion. Research shows people with disabilities experience greater choice, satisfaction, and community participation in smaller, community-based settings of 6 people or fewer compared to larger facilities. However, moving away from institutions faces obstacles like resistance to change and lack of community-based resources and alternatives. The tasks ahead include closing institutions, building community capacity, and preventing unnecessary institutionalization.
Arie Rimmerman: Community Residential Options for Persons with ID in the Ligh...Beitissie1
The document summarizes a lecture on community residential options for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in light of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). It discusses Israel's policy of deinstitutionalization and transitioning people with IDD from large residential facilities to community-based housing with four or fewer residents and appropriate supports. The lecture recommends closing all large facilities within 10 years and establishing a planning committee to oversee the transition process and ensure stakeholders are involved.
Dmitry Leontiev: The Role of Personality Resources in Physically Disabled Stu...Beitissie1
The document summarizes a lecture on the role of personality resources in physically disabled students facing adjustment challenges. It discusses several key points:
1) Most personality resources are not impaired in physically disabled (PD) students compared to conditionally healthy (CH) students. Health status alone does not make a significant difference in adjustment.
2) For non-disabled students, maladjustment is negatively correlated with personality resources. However, for PD students maladjustment does not hinder personality resources.
3) Personality resources mediate the impacts of health status and maladjustment, especially for PD students. Higher post-traumatic growth in PD students is predicted by maladjustment combined with low resources.
Dido Green: Expectations for Therapy and Relationship to Confidence and Compe...Beitissie1
The document summarizes a lecture given by Dido Green at the 6th International Conference on Disabilities in Israel in 2015. The lecture discussed the relationship between expectations for therapy, confidence, competence, and outcomes for children with unilateral cerebral palsy. It describes a study that used a magic-themed intensive therapy program and assessed changes in children's hope, hand function, independence, and perceptions before, during, and after the program. Interviews with the children found that their views of their condition and abilities became more positive following the therapy. The study suggests expectations and confidence may influence progress in movement skills for these children.
Pedro Encarnação: “LUDI”- Technology and Play for Children with DisabilitiesBeitissie1
The document summarizes a slide presentation given by Pedro Encarnação at the 6th International Conference on Disabilities in Israel in 2015. The presentation was about the LUDI COST Action, a pan-European network focused on studying play for children with disabilities. The network includes 27 countries and over 80 members organized into four working groups addressing topics like the relationship between disabilities and play, technologies to support play, contexts for play, and methods/frameworks to develop play. The long term goals of the network are to collect knowledge on play for children with disabilities and provide guidelines to support play through technology and intervention models.
Pedro Encarnação: Development of an Integrated Manipulation and Communication...Beitissie1
The document summarizes a lecture on the development of an integrated manipulation and communication assistive technology (IAMCAT) to support academic activities for children with disabilities. The IAMCAT allows children to control a Lego robot or virtual robot to manipulate educational objects and communicate about learning experiences. Nine children with disabilities used the IAMCAT in their regular classrooms for language, math, science, and social studies activities. Teachers perceived that the IAMCAT enabled participation, increased communication, and contributed to accessing new knowledge for the children.
Joanna Smogorzewska: Developing Social Skills through Play the Effectiveness ...Beitissie1
The document summarizes a lecture on the effectiveness of the "Play Time/Social Time" program for developing social skills in children ages 3 to 6. The program was tested in 10 experimental and 10 control preschool groups in Poland, totaling 249 children with and without disabilities. Results from social skills and theory of mind assessments administered three times over the course of the program showed greater improvement over time in the experimental groups, particularly for children with disabilities. The study provides evidence that the "Play Time/Social Time" program is effective at developing social skills in preschool-aged children.

The document summarizes a lecture given by Susan Wolf-Fordham at the 6th International Conference on Disabilities in Israel in 2015. The lecture discussed stakeholder education and collaborative emergency planning models to ensure equal access to emergency services for individuals with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. It described training programs conducted in multiple US states for individuals with disabilities, their parents, and emergency responders. These programs aimed to raise awareness of disability access issues during emergencies and encourage inclusive emergency planning through stakeholder collaboration. Evaluations found the programs significantly increased knowledge and motivated further preparedness steps.

This document provides a summary of a 2015 lecture on inclusive communities given by Connie Laurin-Bowie of Inclusion International in Israel. The lecture discussed how supporting people with intellectual disabilities through choice, supports, and inclusion in communities benefits everyone. Inclusion International advocates for these rights globally. The lecture covered the organization's role in giving voice to families and people with disabilities, priorities around inclusion in education, legal capacity, and living in the community, and findings that increased choice and family supports are needed for true community inclusion.

The document summarizes an inclusive research study conducted from 2012-2015 at Beit Issie Shapiro in Israel. The study examined the relationship between autonomy, dependency, self-perception, and quality of life among adults with complex learning disabilities. [The study found that] relationship status, independent thinking, and self-esteem were correlated with quality of life. The research was conducted inclusively with adults with disabilities involved in all stages of the research process.

This document summarizes a lecture on sleep disorders in children and adolescents with developmental disabilities. The lecture discussed common sleep difficulties seen, like insomnia, settling problems, and nightmares. It reviewed studies finding high rates of sleep problems in this population. Non-drug behavioral techniques and melatonin were presented as first-line treatment options. The lecture also discussed use of other medications like clonidine, SSRIs, and in rare cases, risperidone to manage sleep disorders in children with developmental disabilities.

28. Conclusion: why Matrices might be a good framework to
align specific components of supports to a QoL oriented
ISP
1. Because it reflects analitycally the
INPUT/THROUGHPUT/OUTPUT process and generates
managed complexity instead of confusing cahos
2. Because it is real: that means it is useful at everyday
practice level providing a rational pathway to ISP
development from assessment to outcomes
3. Because it connects systematically independent
variables (personal, functional, clinical, supports…) to
dependent variables (outcomes)
4. Becouse through a systematic and clinical data
collection it makes every single case an asset of
information for research purposes: clinical practice
and research are produced at the same time
29. From the initial cahos …
Towards a
manged complexity
