La Importancia De Crear
Comunidad Para La Innovación
Social
Louise Pulford
Director, SIX (Social Innovation Exchange)
The Social Innovation Exchange ( SIX)
SIX has a vision of a world
where…
•Social innovators can easily exchange and share:





Ideas that work, across sectors and geographies
Talent, capabilities, skills
Access to power
Money, capital and resources

SIX members feel inspired, connected, and supported
SIX connects people around the world to:
• Know who is doing what
already
• Understand how it works
• And have the capacity and
skills to do it yourself
Its hard to do social innovation
without community
It’s about doing things together









Co production
Co design
Co llaboration
Co finance
Co working
Co creation
Co munication
Co mmunity
It doesn’t work without
communities
We need to feel part of a
community to learn what really
works
Social innovation is not easy….

"nearly every problem has been solved by someone,
somewhere. The challenge of the 21st century is to
find out what works and scale it up.“
President Clinton
Social innovation means everyone
needs to think differently
- We need to create new ways to measure what is working
and what is not
- We need quicker cycles of learning and feedback
- We need new approaches to risk
- We need different legal structures, insurance schemes,
policies.
- We need to be more honest about what doesn’t work
- We need to share our learning more effectively
- We need to move from being individuals to being a
collective
We need to know we are not
alone
What are the key elements of
building a community from SIX’s
perspective?
• If at SIX, we want the network to feel like a community
which is
1. Inspired
2. Connected
3. Supported
Inspired by other things
happening around the world
Passion and creativity
Connected through shared values
•We, the members of SIX:
1.value social impact (rather than ideas)
2.celebrate solutions (more than heroes)
3.engage honestly (more than just inform)
4.inspire through action (not just words)
5.connect as peers (not in a hierarchy)
6.committed to openness (and welcome the unexpected)
Support and trust
“Es posible que el proximo Buddha no tomara la forma de un individuo. El
proximo Buddha puede tomar la forma de una comunidad, una comunidad de
practica de la compresion y de la bondad, una comunidad practicando una vida
consciente, esto puede ser la cosa mas importante que podemos hacer para la
supervivencia de la tierra”.
Thich Nhat Hanh - Monje Budista Vietnamita

“It is possible that the next Buddha will not take the form of an individual. The
next Buddha may take the form of a community – a community practicing
understanding and loving kindness, a community practicing mindful living. This
may be the most important thing we can do for the survival of the earth.”
Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Buddhist teacher
