Due to budget constraints, Lambeth decided to work with an existing supplier, Modern.gov, to develop their ePetitions system rather than buy a complete system or use open source software. The system was launched in 2009 and has since received 34 active petitions with similar numbers rejected. Lessons learned included the need for internal and external publicity about the new system as well as continuous development and clarification of procedures. Looking ahead, the use of social media is seen as increasingly important and further small changes to the system are planned.
