Sparta s Dependence On Persian Money
Sparta s dependence on Persian money in the last years of the war reflects another consequence of
this alliance. At the onset of the Peloponnesian War, Sparta positioned itself as the liberators of
Greece. They justified their aggression by claiming their primary objective was to free those living
under Athenian tyranny. Thucydides claims most Greeks hoped for a Spartan victory,
Men s feelings inclined much more to the Spartans, especially as they proclaimed themselves the
liberators of Hellas. No private or public effort that could help them in speech or action was
omitted; each thinking that the cause suffered wherever he could not himself see it. So general was
the indignation felt against Athens, whether by those who wished to escape from her empire or
were apprehensive of being absorbed by it.
After Athens defeat at Syracuse in 413, the pro Sparta sentiment intensified. Previously neutral
cities joined the Peloponnesians, and Sparta s allies contributed heavily in ships and money in
hopes of ending the war quickly. However, because Persian support inevitably also meant the
abandonment of Ionian Greeks to the empire, the alliance with the Asian king destroyed this
goodwill and reduced the willingness of their allies to contribute to the war effort.
The first official treaty, signed in the summer of 412, favored the Persians to a laughable degree.
The pact required Sparta to recognize all territory held by Darius ancestors as under Persian
control. In addition to

Essay on The Development of Afro-Brazilian Religions
The origin of Afro Brazilian religions is traced back to the Atlantic slave trade that took place in
the 16th century . Portuguese people captured individuals from Bantu tribes and the other West
African communities. The slave trade involved the transfer of these people to Brazil, where they
were sold as slaves. The interaction of slaves from different cultural and religious backgrounds led
to the development of the Afro Brazilian religions that consequently spread all over Brazil. The
religions did not; however, develop at once since they faced opposition from the then government
that recognized the Roman Catholic as the only religion in Brazil. Attempts by Africans to worship
in their own culture were counteracted until in 1824 when the... Show more content on

The slaves were therefore regarded as more educated than their masters due to their ability to
read and write in Arabic. The slaves were transported to Bahia, a town in Brazil, where they
provided labor for the Brazilians . The Bantu slaves were mainly drawn from the Congo and
Angola where they survived as agriculturalists before they were captured and sold as slaves. The
slaves were sold to Brazil to work in the large sugar plantations.
CandomblГ©
This is a traditional Brazil religion practiced by the Africans communities living there . The
dance was performed to appease their gods. It is done in traditional styles derived from the
Yoruba and Bantu traditions. The songs and dances were developed by African priests who
were traded as slaves. The priests had strong African beliefs and had gained great experience on
the task thus they could easily influence more followers. The religion had no formal scripture
and the priests used the word of mouth to pass their message to their congregations. The
believers were followers of a god by the name OludumarГ© who they asserted was their creator.
The oludumare has his servants called the Orishas. The Orishas are in every person and every
Orisha is assigned an individual to offer protection. The believers organize a number of ceremonies
each year to commemorate some important events. In the ceremonies, CandomblГ© songs fill the
air. The believers also offer offerings to their

Dare Jump Short Story
Don t do it Darius! Don t you dare jump! I said while my sister did the four point cross sign with
her fingers and said Rest in peace and I hope you go to heaven . Who says that to a person that
didn t jump yet is what I thought at that moment. Stop. Stop. Stop. Let s go to the beginning
shall we. My family and I were in Pershing Field Park when this happened. I met up with some of
my friends that were screaming at the top of their lungs to what seemed to me as nothing in the
beginning. While I focused and put on my glasses which I have to have off unless I risk
breaking them. I saw him. Darius a class mate and friend that I don t associate with at all after
school was there. He, as I saw it was standing on top of two bars that no one is supposed to be
near. Those bars that still are restricted to kids and adults alike are a part of a swing set
playground hybrid; that had monkey bar extensions. Darius is a dare devil. When he was dared
jump I knew that he was going to jump; he never liked being called a chicken and would do most
dares. As he wound up for the leap, one thoughtwas running through my mindhe was going to die or
break a leg. Even though this was serious everyone was smiling and some were laughing even me.
At that time I just thought that if he was to jump he would make it but I tried to stop him anyway.
Now you must be wondering how high up he is and what is he jumpingon to and how far away it is
and if his shoes slip or something happens to him. He was

audience interested throughout the whole movie time. Path goal theory of leader effectiveness can

clarifying paths towards these goals and removing obstacles to performance. After being released
from prison, Danny Ocean (Clooney) finds out that Las Vegas kingpin Terry Benedict (Andy

Calla Character Analysis
Calla is an only child, born of two muggles. Her mother and father do not know which side of the
family her powers came from. The first time she showed a sign of magical abilities was on her
fifth birthday. She had managed to make building blocks float above her head in circles. Her
parents, were quite scared, confused by her newfound skill. They taught Calla to hide her power.
She was bullied because of accidents happening at school. Paint cans falling from roofs, Emily
Raine s hair turning pink, and many more incidents occurring causing her to be teased and made
fun of. Finally, her familygot a letter. Much to their confusion, delivered by owl. Upon opening they
saw it was an invitation to a school, an explanation to her mysterious ability. Accepting the
invitation, Calla learned much about this world in which she would now live in.

embarrass herself at every moment possible. Secretly, she wishes to be liked by most everyone,
and praised for self deprecating jokes. She often times thinks of some quite rude comebacks, but
chooses not to share them. She doesn t want to come off as a bad person. Calla feels as if she is
one of the only fifteen year old girls who isn t fawning over guys, but tends to notice the female
population of Hogwarts a bit more. She has quite a lot of weaknesses like; anxiety, angry outbursts,
easily distracted, and she is pretty horrible at potions. Just awful at

Meditation Argumentative Essay
The many improvements in a person s life that can be experienced through meditation are
wonderful. The world can seem so fast paced and hectic that even a few minutes a few times a
day can make a big difference. The calming and soothing relaxation of a guided meditation can
help people survive beyond the harder times life often has to offer. A good meditationguide is where
a beginner should start when entering into meditation.
Meditation has often been linked with spirituality and religion. Used by yoga practitioners as well
as Buddhists, it is also found in Christianity and Catholicism in the form of quiet prayer and inner
contemplation. However, meditation can also work in other fields, such as health care and

Even if only taken a few minutes at a time, and only once or twice a day, a person will open
themselves up to living without stress and turmoil. It has been said that the blood chemistry of a
person undergoing guide meditation is different than that of someone experiencing stress.
Meditation allows this calming change to eventually affect other parts of daily life without having
to meditate, so long as meditation itself is practiced on a regular basis.
To begin properly using meditation in one s life, start by creating a list of goals. These should be
things one is willing to accomplish and interested in achieving. Meditation has been able to help
people recover from addictions, deal with chronic pain and long term diseases, and experience
serenity. Whether one is seeking peace or to achieve something, have the list of goals clear in your
mind.
Once a set list of goals is in place, find a good spot within the home to meditate. It s important
that this place be comfortable to sit in and spend time in, a welcoming place. It s also important
that this meditative space be free from regular interruptions. Consider a spot away from the front
door and telephone, the bathroom and kitchen. Make sure it s a place you ll want to come to a few

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Board Games
2.6The Disadvantages of Board Game
According to Dewar (2009, p. 15), there are many disadvantages of using board game in the
classroom. Firstly, most people play with house rules. Each board game has its own set of rules.
So, while playing students would probably use the old or normal rules to play that cause the game
to last much longer than it should be. Secondly, in board games they have player elimination.
Meaning that players who lost or are unlucky can get kicked out of the game early. Thirdly,
playing board games is too dependent on luck. Players will just have to roll dice and the number that
face upwards decides how many steps they players should go. That might lead to winning or losing
of the game.
Nextly, board games doesn t scale well to the number of players. Four players seem to be ideal but
it is impossible for teachers to prepare 10 same board games for a class of 40 students. Besides that,
another disadvantage of board game is that players takes too long and 2 players is completely
pointless. This is because if 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since we are in the era full of technologies and electronic devices, it is possible for some students to
not know what is a board game. Secondly, teacher should try to attract the students understanding
about board games. Teacher can introduce the board game that she has prepared. Teacher should
briefly explain the steps of how to play the board game that she created. Next, teacher should tell the
rules and regulations of playing the board game. While board games has winning and losing,
teacher should emphasize and explain the rules in detail so that there will not be any fights or
misunderstanding while students are playing the board game. When the students are playing,
teacher should monitor and make sure that students speak during their turn. Teachers should always
emphasize that making mistakes while speaking is better than they never speak at

The Symbolism Of Pearl In The Scarlet Letter
In The Scarlet Letter Pearl, the daughter of Hester Prynne and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, is
used as a symbol throughout the novel. Pearl is the innocent product of a sin. She has often
been called a demon child due to her mischievous behavior. That comes from the absence of a
father figure. Pearl shows a wildness that none of the citizens of the settlement have ever seen
before. She is very intelligent for her age and she uses that to her advantage. Hester and Pearl
are in the Governor s garden one day where there is a discussion whether little Pearl should be
taken from Hester and given to another family to be raised by, or to remain with Hester. Hester
says that she would die before Pearl be taken from her. This statement shows Hester s

In this case, the accident is the proximate cause of Mrs. Smith s injuries and the medical

the point of permanent disability and disfigurement. Possible Defendants Paul Joseph, the other

bodily injury, permanent disability or disfigurement. Statutes, however, are unclear as to exactly
what constitutes great bodily injury. It is unlikely that Paul Joseph would be named as a

Civil Remedy Statute, В§624.155(1)(b), Mary s insurance company is required to act in her
best interests. Should they act in bad faith by failing to settle for a reasonable amount, Mary

Analysis Of Lps Schemes Can Be Categorized From Different...
2.2 LPS Classification Due to their diversity, LPS schemes can be categorized from different
perspectives .The classification could be based on various criteria like methodology, dependency
on equipment s, operating scenarios, targeted users and outputs. Here we categorize indoor
localization systems along three dimensions. First, we consider the output of a localization system
which is usually generalized as locations or positions, but actually could be divided into different
groups. Most common outputs include: Absolute positions: Positions with coordinate s information

signatures corresponding to environmental characteristics or artificial landmarks to localize, which
could be based on various technologies including RFID, motion detections, optoacoustic and
humiture sensors. Fingerprinting: Constructing a fingerprint map which would be queried
explicitly for localization. Often referred as but different from signaturing, fingerprinting provides
finer grained mapping of fingerprints to absolute positions instead of logical positions. The vast
development of mobile computing, wireless and sensing technologies provides various platforms
and tools for localization systems for general or specific scenarios, and fertilize the diversity of
LPS. It is necessary to examine technologies and platforms that localization systems are based on. A

The Role Of Evil In Man s Search For Meaning
One of the biggest problems asked of religion is tied into the existence of evil, pain and
suffering. The question of: If God is good, then why is there evil? is often asked of the major
world religions, including the two monotheistic religions Judaism and Christianity. In the book of
Isaiah, verse 45:7 in the Bible it gives us some insight to the question, stating: I make peace, and
create evil: I the LORD do all these things and in Judaism, Victor Frankl, In Man s Search for
Meaning, notes that: Sufferingis an ineradicable part of life . As well as Christianity, Godhas made
us in his image (Genesis 1:27), allowing us to have the choice to do evil. But why would God
allow or even create evil when he, the creator has almighty power?... Show more content on

And without choice, we would be incapable of a real love relationship. God didn t want this, as the
Bible says God desires a real love relationship with his creation. Love is not real unless we have the
ability to not love. God knew that by giving us free will, there would be much evil, as choosing not
to love him is evil by definition. This idea that evil is a side effect of love is shown in the book of
Isaiah, verse 45:7, I make peace and create evil . The ability of free will serves the purpose of
having the chance to establish real love relationships between us and God, and evil will be done
away after that purpose is achieved, And the world passes away and the lust thereof: but he that
does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:17). This gift of free will is extremely important as it
gives the choice for us to choose what we want to believe and if we choose to believe God this

The core function of Human Resource Department
Planning: the core function of Human Resource Department Page пїЅ PAGE пїЅ1пїЅ ABSTRACT
Human Resource planning is a process of identifying current and future human resources needs for
an organization to achieve its goals and strategic objective. It involves, but not limited to forecasting
an organization s future demand and supply for different types of employees directly linked to its
business needs. Implementation of gap analysis between future HR supply and future demand is
taking place first. Strategies are then developed in order to minimize the gaps and may involve
recruitment, internal staffing, development and training, and activities relating to rightsizing.
Forecasting future needs implies proper understanding of the future... Show more content on

Basic questions that HR planners should answer are the following: What are the jobs needed to
be filled during the coming period of time? and How and where we are going to get people from
to fill those jobs? What are the jobs needed to be filled? Answering the demand question requires
prediction: who will leave jobs and create vacancies, which jobs will be eliminated, and which
new jobs will be created. One of the methods for predicting the vacancies and increasing number
of jobs is to project historical statistics into the future, the so called Statistical Techniques. This is
applicable for organizations with a long history in the market and a clear understanding of their
business, which can easily predict the demand for their products or services (production volume,
level of sales, number of contracts, etc.). Behavioral theories of the causes of turnover (Richard
Mowday, Lyman Porter, and Richard Steers The psychology of commitment, absenteeism, and
turnover 1982) accompanied with conducting employee surveys particularly designed to assess
basic predictors of turnover (such as job satisfaction), in addition to the support of human resource
planners can give enough information to predict how many filled positions can possibly become
vacant. This information is more accurate and can be useful mostly when a single organizational
department has a large number of employees. Nevertheless, on practice it is less precise when
making predictions

Last Flight by Amelia Earhart
February 9, 2017
For so much of our history as a people, we are often reminded of the many successful men that
accomplished things to make this world a better place. We are reminded about their long,
devastating journey to reach their goals and maintain their prosperity; however, not once do we
hear of their wives or female siblings. In the early 1900 s it was still presumed that this was the
role of the man. A woman from Kansas, however, rose beyond the clouds of prejudice her name
Amelia Earhart. Determined and hard working, this woman set on surpassing the limits previously
placed on women, and in her book, Last Flight, Amelia Earhart fought the many odds ... Show more

On April 8, 1931, she set the altitude record by flying 18,415 feet. On January 11, 1935, she
became the first person to fly across the Pacific from Honolulu to Oakland (Earhart 89 93). All
this was done during a time and place where people lossed their jobs, and the economy was bad.
Unemployment rate almost tripled between 1930 and 1933 as it jumped from 8.9 percent to 24.9
percent. Americans relied on Earhart s successes as national achievements and viewed them as
encouragement through all of the unrest of the great depression. It was a signal that while America s
economy was still weakening, the country s spirit to accomplish was still strong. It was also a
symbol that the American dream was still active and that, at least in some way, those who worked
hard would be compensated. Her accomplishments proved to the world that women were equal, and
lifted America to the center stage of civil rights.
In conclusion, the book Last Flight, by Amelia Earhart, portrayed a critical moment in American
History; traditional viewpoints were challenged, aviation became ingrained in the American culture,
and women became major players in the American Dream. Amelia Earhart s accomplishments have
jarring similarities to Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space, orbiting the earth forty eight
times. She put the previous four American astronauts all male to shame with their combined total of
thirty six. These

Healthcare Accounting Principles and Ethics
Financial Management, Reporting Practices, and Ethical Standards in Health Care Finance Allison
Moore Financial Management, Reporting Practices, and Ethical Standards in Health Care Finance
Health care managers have many responsibilities, which support their roles in creating and
maintaining successful organizations. A key responsibility managers undertake is the ability to
manage financials appropriately. First and foremost, financial management is a decision science.
Whereas accounting provides decision makers with a rational means by which to budget for and
measure a business s financial performance, financial management provides the theory, concepts,
and tools necessary to make better decisions (Gapenski, 2007). For... Show more content on

The fore mentioned reporting principles are required because they force organizations to adhere
to ethical reporting methods. Financial reports must be reported fairly and factually to ensure all
parties receive reliable and unbiased information. A perfect example of this is the Principle of
Prudence. If a department manager receives a report that understates previous expenses and
exaggerates department revenues, the manager would not have a valid budget to work with. Not
possessing a correct budget could affect wages, hiring, supply orders, decisions, and multiple other
operational areas. This could lead to a lack of resources and poor decisions that ultimately reduce
patient care objectives. In terms of revenue, multiple medical facilities rely heavily on government
funding. To receive government funding, these facilities must adhere to outlined reporting
practices. Facilities that fail to do so will lose a substantial amount of government revenue. In
addition, fines may be imposed for compliance failures. Although the most significant downfalls of
false reporting are false expectations and possible bankruptcy. If organizations do not control
expenses and drive revenues, they will not remain in business. By keeping managers in the dark,
one could not expect them to drive positive outcomes. These are just a few examples of why
reporting standards are so important. Ethical Conduct of

Ernest Hemingway s The Big Two-Hearted River
Hemingway s 1925 short story, The Big Two Hearted River, originally from the collection of short
stories entitled In Our Time, engages in an introspective identity crisis, which arises after the book
s protagonist, Nick, returns from World War I. While Nick attempts to navigate his life outside of
combat, Hemingway takes him on a journey of reconciliation and self discovery. Embarking on his
journey into nature, Nick submerges himself in a life of what seems to be pure tranquility. In Nick
s eyes, society subjects people to violence, but nature is inherently good. Shortly after, Hemingway
provides Nick with tangible evidence opposing his original thoughts. Hemingway brings to light the
fact that both society and nature have subliminal binaries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After experiencing moments of loss and violence, Nick chooses to return to the one place of
constancy he knows, which is nature. In nature, Nick believes that he can escape the brutality
and hate that humanity creates. Leaving behind the burned town of Seney and choosing to
enter the natural world, Nick [feels] he [has] left everything behind, the need for thinking, the
need to write, other needs. It was all back of him, (Hemingway 179). Hemingway subtly suggests
that Nick has been plagued with an endless list of realities that have consumed him for far too
long. Nick s escape from reality provides brief moments of solitude and rest from his bustling
world. Amidst the burned and destroyed town of Seney a river remains untouched, providing a
symbol of hope. While Seney seems broken, the possibility of new beginnings and life exists.
This binary is parallel in Nick s life as well. Nick actively chooses to pursue new beginnings
instead of dwelling on the memories of his past, but is quickly reminded that he cannot escape
the parts of his life that play a large part in his identity. Attempting to escape the pressing realities
of life back home, Nick notices that the problems he internalizes in his own life are apparent in
nature as well. While fishing and rivers seems to be a place of happiness and healing for Nick,
reality finds a way to creep in. Looking at a trout in the river, Nick s heart tightened as the trout
moved. He felt all the old feeling, (Hemingway 178). Nick does not reveal the old feeling or who
/what is associated with that feeling. Instead, it can be recognized that a tightened heart is a sign
of tension and anxiety. Despite Nick s best efforts to escape his past seeking comfort in the
familiar, he finds that like his pack, he carries his past with him wherever he goes, whether he

The Pros And Cons Of Restraint
Restraints limit a patient s movement. This brings up many ethical debates and issues. There are
certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know
the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a
chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present
risk and negative outcomes.
History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the
late 1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared
to a current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal
government and accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints
(Taylor et al. 2015, p. 708). Also according to Taylor, Lillis, and Lynn (2015) a Safety Alert from
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1995 informed nurses and other members of the
health care team the risks of using side rails, especially when all four side rails are up.
Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are
physical, chemical, and seclusion. According to Springer (2015), a physical restraint is a device that
keeps the patient from moving freely or from the patient harming themselves or other people
nearby. Chemical restraints are drugs that are administered that do the same thing a physical
restraint does.

Analysis Of Game Of Thrones
Game of Thrones is a show that I have recently started watching. I usually don t watch television
shows of this genre, but this one is very entertaining. Game of Thrones is a good fantasy drama
because of the variety of settings, character development, and the suspense within the show.
It is important for a fantasy drama to have a variety of settings or change of scenery every so often
because this adds more to the show and keeps viewers from becoming bored. In Game of Thrones
there are many different settings showed. In this show, there are many characters who believe they
are the one true king or queen. The plot of the show is the conquest of these different characters to
take their place on the Iron Throne as the king or queen, hence the name
Game of Thrones. The many different characters and showing the story of their journeys is what
allows for the many different settings. The show shows seven different kingdoms, there is the
North Kingdom, Kingdom of Mountain and Vale, Kingdom of Isles and Rivers, Kingdom of the
Rock, Kingdom of the Stormlands, Kingdom of the Reach and the Principality of Dorne. Scenes
take place in each one of the settings listed and many other settings in places between the kingdoms.
Another important quality of a good fantasy drama is showing character development.
Character development allows viewers to watch the characters grow and shows more than one side
of the character, this gives the characters more depth and makes them more interesting and

Characteristics Of A Dyad Relationships
The characteristics and dynamics of a group is specific and changes in correlation with the size
of a group. A group is more than one person that unite to meet similar goals and needs. Georg
Simmel, a German sociologist, refers to a group of two individuals as a dyad, and a group of
three people as a triad. (Kendall 144). For instance, a married couple is a dyad group, and as the
dyad relationship evolves the group shifts to a triad when a child is born. As the group size
increases or decreases the dynamics, characteristics, and relationships change, accordingly.
Two individuals uniting as a married couple, a dyad, are associated with similar characteristics and
dynamics. While one married couple may have different goals or needs when compared to another
married couple, the overall characteristics are shared among majority of married couples.
Individuals unite with another individual because they share similar needs and goals in life. As an
example, an individual whom desires a life of marriage, a successful career, the purchasing of a
home, and a goal to build a family. Upon meeting another individual with these similar goals in
life may decide to tie the knot to form a dyad group. These two individuals carry on life working
together as a team to support one another and successfully fulfill these similar goals in life. A dyad
is an intense bond, and acquires unification between the two individuals. (Kendall 144). It is
essential that both individuals continue to work

you will be looking at baby s. You will be the first person to tell any mother what the baby will be
a girl or boy. You will bring joy to both parents mom and dad just by saying It s a Girl or Its a boy
. Another advantage is that you will be in touch with you patients you will have to listen to what
they have to tell you. What i m actually saying about this is that many of your patients will get
emotional and you will have to be there to support them. Just as there is advantages there is also
disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that you may have to work over time you will be
standing up 98% of the time. You might also have to work night shifts depending on what hospital
you actually get a job at. but in my opinion i feel like being a sonographer is amazing.

The Salem Witch Trials For The Puritan Community
Texas Tech University A Town Submerged in Hysteria Cornelius Asmerom History To 1877
Professor Corye Beene October 23, 2014 The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials were a
devastating time period in 1692 for the Puritan community which resulted in 20 innocent people
executed. Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in
Massachusetts Bay. Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to
build a utopian society. John Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay
colony described this society as a city upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve
itself on its own once the Puritans got to Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced
within their community was a theocracy, meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he
expressed his action and will through men and women. This required the community to attend
church daily, and if you did not show up people would come and look for you. This outdated form
of government enforced and allowed the sexist practices of women because of the strong belief that
women were susceptible to the Devils charm. Women had no legal or property rights, marrying as a
teenager and having many kids was the their life. This community did not tolerate nonconformity,
everyone did the same thing and acted the same way. Anne Hutchinson was a victim of the strict
beliefs of the Puritans. Anne Hutchinson was arrested for heresy

Alien Abductions Essay
The Psychology Behind Alien Abductions
Alien abductions are no longer things of science fiction novel and movies. In the late 1940s, UFO
and alien sightings became a nation wide phenomenon. With the reported sightings and abductions,
came mass media, but also heavy criticism. If nothing else, these descriptions illustrate that the
AAE is a dynamic, elaborate, and involved experience, rich in contextual detail, with considerable
perceptual, psychological, cognitive, and physical concomitants (p. 255). Over the course of

underlying causes of the reported experiences. Extensive research has been conducted to determine
the psychological aspects of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donald Spence believes that this may be the case in his article Abduction Tales as Metaphors . The
alien narrative is a substitute for the cultural crisis Robert Thoreau describes as a less empowered,
more alienated, and less predictable citizens (Spence 177). Most abductions have the similar traits
of powerlessness and uncertainty, while powerful beings degrade their bodies and leave them
traumatized (177). When contrasting modern day abductions and mid twentieth century ones,
Spence found that the narratives are also reflective of our times. Early aliens were generally
characterized as a jovial creatures, while modern day extraterrestrials are described as malevolent
creatures. The stark contrast is a subliminal metaphor for the cultural atmosphere of the time. The
early Kennedy and Eisenhower years marker great progress within the American society and
stability. As the political and cultural climates have changed, the tales of little gray men turn into an
ominous fight for freedom.
Deciphering the actual cause of reports alien abductions may never be solved, but many
psychologists have theories. While Spence believes the alien abduction phenomenon is a metaphor
for our society, psychologist Roy Baumeister believes reports are made by masochists. A person
who is sexually gratified by pain, degradation, etc., that is self imposed or imposed by others. Dr.

Both of these methods could be effective for evaluating this position. Both of these methods are

Power in International Relations
The conception is power in International Relations is a key to a better understanding of the
discipline. In many cases the definition of power affects the way in which many issues are
tackled in foreign policy or security. There are many theories that try to deal with the conception
of power, however they make a rather large number of assumptions that might make them difficult
to applicable in real life. Furthermore many of them does not take into consideration that power
evolves, therefore if we want to understand and conceptualize power in the international sphere it
is crucial to analyze different theories and conceptions of it.This essay will argue that power is a
broad term that can best be conceptualized and explained in IR by a multiplicity of theories. In
making this argument, this essay will first explain why power power is crucial in the study of
International Relations. Then two theories of power from the realist tradition , one of the
neoliberalist tradition, one of postmodernism and a critical theoryof realism will be outlined. This
theories of power will be explained and compared in order to create a complete conceptualization of
the term power than can be applied to the twentieth first century

Therefore, the inventory of these blood platelets needs to be actively managed. While a patient
should receive blood platelets of the same type, blood platelet substitution is possible between
certain blood platelet types. The distribution of blood type at different countries are listed in
Table 1 and the average demand and supply in USA is shown in Table 2. Table 3 shows all the
substitution possibilities for all blood types (BloodProducts 2011)1 , where 1 indicates that the
substitution is allowed between these two blood types, and 0 means that substitution is not
allowed between these two blood types. Since the distribution of supply does not match with that
of demand, blood centers often run short of types B and O. This, however, does not mean that
supply of other blood types is abundant. Shortages of all blood types occur, especially during
summer and winter holidays (USABlood 2011). In addition to blood platelet type, age of the

Pediatric non alcoholic fatty liver disease:

lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in children and adolescents. Primary care providers
have a unique position to identify and screen for the disease in its early stages. This article

According to a landmark article by Browning et al, prevalence of NAFLD was described as being
highest in the Hispanic population and lowest among Black Americans, and Caucasians with an
intermediate prevalence. The differences were thought to be related to insulin resistance, visceral
adiposity, genetics and socioeconomic status9.
Overnutrition, specifically excessive consumption of fructose, is fundamental to NAFLD
development10. Fructose metabolism, unlike glucose, occurs nearly exclusively in the liver and is
preferentially selected for lipogenesis. The triglyceride production and storage that results from
fructose ingestion is highly associated with central obesity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance11.
This relevant finding is especially important to clinicians, as this modifiable risk factor may be
easily addressed.
Screening Guidelines and Recommendations
The majority of children with NAFLD are asymptomatic. Occasionally patients may complain of
vague abdominal pain, fatigue, or malaise, however, liver disease is usually found incidentally on
physical exam or routine lab work1. Children may have mild to moderate hepatomegaly; however,
the majority of these children are overweight or obese, making liver palpation a challenge. In
addition to obesity and visceral adiposity, children with NAFLD often present with acanthosis
nigricans on the back of their neck or intertrigenous areas, which is suggestive of insulin

something when you really didn t need all that information. ... Show more content on

a display at a store that asks you question, like a self service package mailer at the post office,
you are using a specialized Watson. The computer is only set up to ask questions regarding
packages. With every answer you give, a new set of questions are posed. For a complete version
of Watson to be used, the only location that I could find it relevant would be a library. There are
many different questions that can be asked of it and Watson can even be programed to tell people
where they can find more information (by providing Watson with the library s

  • 2. Sparta s Dependence On Persian Money Sparta s dependence on Persian money in the last years of the war reflects another consequence of this alliance. At the onset of the Peloponnesian War, Sparta positioned itself as the liberators of Greece. They justified their aggression by claiming their primary objective was to free those living under Athenian tyranny. Thucydides claims most Greeks hoped for a Spartan victory, Men s feelings inclined much more to the Spartans, especially as they proclaimed themselves the liberators of Hellas. No private or public effort that could help them in speech or action was omitted; each thinking that the cause suffered wherever he could not himself see it. So general was the indignation felt against Athens, whether by those who wished to escape from her empire or were apprehensive of being absorbed by it. After Athens defeat at Syracuse in 413, the pro Sparta sentiment intensified. Previously neutral cities joined the Peloponnesians, and Sparta s allies contributed heavily in ships and money in hopes of ending the war quickly. However, because Persian support inevitably also meant the abandonment of Ionian Greeks to the empire, the alliance with the Asian king destroyed this goodwill and reduced the willingness of their allies to contribute to the war effort. The first official treaty, signed in the summer of 412, favored the Persians to a laughable degree. The pact required Sparta to recognize all territory held by Darius ancestors as under Persian control. In addition to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on The Development of Afro-Brazilian Religions The origin of Afro Brazilian religions is traced back to the Atlantic slave trade that took place in the 16th century . Portuguese people captured individuals from Bantu tribes and the other West African communities. The slave trade involved the transfer of these people to Brazil, where they were sold as slaves. The interaction of slaves from different cultural and religious backgrounds led to the development of the Afro Brazilian religions that consequently spread all over Brazil. The religions did not; however, develop at once since they faced opposition from the then government that recognized the Roman Catholic as the only religion in Brazil. Attempts by Africans to worship in their own culture were counteracted until in 1824 when the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The slaves were therefore regarded as more educated than their masters due to their ability to read and write in Arabic. The slaves were transported to Bahia, a town in Brazil, where they provided labor for the Brazilians . The Bantu slaves were mainly drawn from the Congo and Angola where they survived as agriculturalists before they were captured and sold as slaves. The slaves were sold to Brazil to work in the large sugar plantations. CandomblГ© This is a traditional Brazil religion practiced by the Africans communities living there . The dance was performed to appease their gods. It is done in traditional styles derived from the Yoruba and Bantu traditions. The songs and dances were developed by African priests who were traded as slaves. The priests had strong African beliefs and had gained great experience on the task thus they could easily influence more followers. The religion had no formal scripture and the priests used the word of mouth to pass their message to their congregations. The believers were followers of a god by the name OludumarГ© who they asserted was their creator. The oludumare has his servants called the Orishas. The Orishas are in every person and every Orisha is assigned an individual to offer protection. The believers organize a number of ceremonies each year to commemorate some important events. • 4. Dare Jump Short Story Don t do it Darius! Don t you dare jump! I said while my sister did the four point cross sign with her fingers and said Rest in peace and I hope you go to heaven . Who says that to a person that didn t jump yet is what I thought at that moment. Stop. Stop. Stop. Let s go to the beginning shall we. My family and I were in Pershing Field Park when this happened. I met up with some of my friends that were screaming at the top of their lungs to what seemed to me as nothing in the beginning. While I focused and put on my glasses which I have to have off unless I risk breaking them. I saw him. Darius a class mate and friend that I don t associate with at all after school was there. He, as I saw it was standing on top of two bars that no one is supposed to be near. Those bars that still are restricted to kids and adults alike are a part of a swing set playground hybrid; that had monkey bar extensions. Darius is a dare devil. When he was dared jump I knew that he was going to jump; he never liked being called a chicken and would do most dares. As he wound up for the leap, one thoughtwas running through my mindhe was going to die or break a leg. Even though this was serious everyone was smiling and some were laughing even me. At that time I just thought that if he was to jump he would make it but I tried to stop him anyway. Now you must be wondering how high up he is and what is he jumpingon to and how far away it is and if his shoes slip or something happens to him. He was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Firstly, most people play with house rules. Each board game has its own set of rules. So, while playing students would probably use the old or normal rules to play that cause the game to last much longer than it should be. Secondly, in board games they have player elimination. Meaning that players who lost or are unlucky can get kicked out of the game early. Thirdly, playing board games is too dependent on luck. Players will just have to roll dice and the number that face upwards decides how many steps they players should go. That might lead to winning or losing of the game. Nextly, board games doesn t scale well to the number of players. Four players seem to be ideal but it is impossible for teachers to prepare 10 same board games for a class of 40 students. The question of: If God is good, then why is there evil? is often asked of the major world religions, including the two monotheistic religions Judaism and Christianity. In the book of Isaiah, verse 45:7 in the Bible it gives us some insight to the question, stating: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things and in Judaism, Victor Frankl, In Man s Search for Meaning, notes that: Sufferingis an ineradicable part of life . Basic questions that HR planners should answer are the following: What are the jobs needed to be filled during the coming period of time? and How and where we are going to get people from to fill those jobs? What are the jobs needed to be filled? Answering the demand question requires prediction: who will leave jobs and create vacancies, which jobs will be eliminated, and which new jobs will be created. One of the methods for predicting the vacancies and increasing number of jobs is to project historical statistics into the future, the so called Statistical Techniques. This is applicable for organizations with a long history in the market and a clear understanding of their business, which can easily predict the demand for their products or services (production volume, level of sales, number of contracts, etc.). Behavioral theories of the causes of turnover (Richard Mowday, Lyman Porter, and Richard Steers The psychology of commitment, absenteeism, and turnover 1982) accompanied with conducting employee surveys particularly designed to assess basic predictors of turnover (such as job satisfaction), in addition to the support of human resource planners can give enough information to predict how many filled positions can possibly become vacant. This information is more accurate and can be useful mostly when a single organizational department has a large number of employees. Not possessing a correct budget could affect wages, hiring, supply orders, decisions, and multiple other operational areas. There are certain guidelines that should be followed when it comes to using restraints. It is important to know the different kinds of restraints, how to apply a physical restraint properly and how to administer a chemical restraint safely. It is important to consider alternatives as the use of restraints can present risk and negative outcomes. History of Restraints Restraints were incorporated into health care many decades ago. In the late 1970s, more than 25% of U.S residents in long term care facilities were restrained compared to a current average of 5% (Taylor, Lillis, Lynn, 2015, p. 707). Since 1987, the federal government and accrediting agencies have worked to reduce or eliminate the use of restraints (Taylor et al. 2015, p. 708). Different Types of Restraints There are three categories of restraints. The three categories are physical, chemical, and seclusion. A group is more than one person that unite to meet similar goals and needs. Georg Simmel, a German sociologist, refers to a group of two individuals as a dyad, and a group of three people as a triad. (Kendall 144). For instance, a married couple is a dyad group, and as the dyad relationship evolves the group shifts to a triad when a child is born. As the group size increases or decreases the dynamics, characteristics, and relationships change, accordingly. Two individuals uniting as a married couple, a dyad, are associated with similar characteristics and dynamics. While one married couple may have different goals or needs when compared to another married couple, the overall characteristics are shared among majority of married couples. Individuals unite with another individual because they share similar needs and goals in life. As an example, an individual whom desires a life of marriage, a successful career, the purchasing of a home, and a goal to build a family. Upon meeting another individual with these similar goals in life may decide to tie the knot to form a dyad group. These two individuals carry on life working together as a team to support one another and successfully fulfill these similar goals in life. A dyad is an intense bond, and acquires unification between the two individuals. (Kendall 144). It is essential that both individuals continue to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Salem Witch Trials For The Puritan Community Texas Tech University A Town Submerged in Hysteria Cornelius Asmerom History To 1877 Professor Corye Beene October 23, 2014 The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials were a devastating time period in 1692 for the Puritan community which resulted in 20 innocent people executed. Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in Massachusetts Bay. Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to build a utopian society. John Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay colony described this society as a city upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve itself on its own once the Puritans got to Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced within their community was a theocracy, meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he expressed his action and will through men and women. This required the community to attend church daily, and if you did not show up people would come and look for you. This outdated form of government enforced and allowed the sexist practices of women because of the strong belief that women were susceptible to the Devils charm. Women had no legal or property rights, marrying as a teenager and having many kids was the their life. Donald Spence believes that this may be the case in his article Abduction Tales as Metaphors . The alien narrative is a substitute for the cultural crisis Robert Thoreau describes as a less empowered, more alienated, and less predictable citizens (Spence 177). Most abductions have the similar traits of powerlessness and uncertainty, while powerful beings degrade their bodies and leave them traumatized (177). When contrasting modern day abductions and mid twentieth century ones, Spence found that the narratives are also reflective of our times. Early aliens were generally characterized as a jovial creatures, while modern day extraterrestrials are described as malevolent creatures. The stark contrast is a subliminal metaphor for the cultural atmosphere of the time. The early Kennedy and Eisenhower years marker great progress within the American society and stability. As the political and cultural climates have changed, the tales of little gray men turn into an ominous fight for freedom. Primary care providers have a unique position to identify and screen for the disease in its early stages. According to a landmark article by Browning et al, prevalence of NAFLD was described as being highest in the Hispanic population and lowest among Black Americans, and Caucasians with an intermediate prevalence. The differences were thought to be related to insulin resistance, visceral adiposity, genetics and socioeconomic status9. Overnutrition, specifically excessive consumption of fructose, is fundamental to NAFLD development10. Fructose metabolism, unlike glucose, occurs nearly exclusively in the liver and is preferentially selected for lipogenesis. The triglyceride production and storage that results from fructose ingestion is highly associated with central obesity, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance11. This relevant finding is especially important to clinicians, as this modifiable risk factor may be easily addressed. Screening Guidelines and Recommendations The majority of children with NAFLD are asymptomatic. Occasionally patients may complain of vague abdominal pain, fatigue, or malaise, however, liver disease is usually found incidentally on physical exam or routine lab work1. Children may have mild to moderate hepatomegaly; however, the majority of these children are overweight or obese, making liver palpation a challenge. The reason Jeopardy makes sense as a test platform is because the average contestant on Jeopardy has such a complex understanding of different subjects, viewers have often compared them to computers. Eugene Finerman told the Wall Street Journal (1990) that he had to scan over at least 200 issues of Time magazine to feel like he could answer a good amount of questions. However, testing the computeron a quiz show means that the computer only had to be as smart as the human players it was competing against.
