Logistics is the backbone of the
economy, providing the efficient, cost
effective flow of goods on which other
commercial sectors depend.

• Supply chain management has a broader
concept .SCM means movement of cargo
from point of origin to point of destination
at the right time , to the right customer at
the right place. This movement can be by
sea, by air, by road , by rail or by multi
mode.

4. Sea cargo movement
• Can move the cargo as bulk, break bulk, in tankers, in containers or as
consoles.
• Generally cargoes moving out of the country are agricultural products,
home furnishing items, tea, coffee, spices, marine products, meat, poultry
products, machinery, garments, toys, engineering goods, automobiles etc..
• Incoming cargoes to the country includes petroleum products, fertilizers,
furniture, HMS, news print, Plastics, chemicals perishable products etc.
• Apart from export and import now 40 % domestic cargo movement are
through sea waters and known as coastal cargo movement.

5. Air cargo movement
• Time sensitive cargoes and high value products move
via air.

6. Road movement.
• Road is the largest network for transportation in
India because of its reach.

• Domestic cargoes in large quantity are moved
