This document provides a log book and evaluation for a student's media studies coursework on producing a music magazine. The student has researched established music magazines like Q and XXL to inform their own magazine design. For Q magazine, their research found it targets mainly males aged 15-24 from middle-class backgrounds. Their research on XXL, a hip hop magazine, informed their decision to focus their own magazine on that genre. Details are provided on layout elements like mastheads, cover lines, and barcodes based on analyzing existing magazines. The student intends to replicate aspects of XXL's successful formula. The document outlines their progress on preliminary tasks like designing the magazine's front cover and contents page.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Front Cover
Step-by-step
First I started off with a blank page with the school logo beside
on the top right hand corner, where it displayed the schools logo,
there was also some colour scheme of the school that was a
maroon and blue, this was a boarder around the magazine but
then I took that boarder away and added a purple colour way as
that popped and standee out even more so therefore I used my
own colour from what I was given so therefore I have that aspect
of that magazine as I thought it looked better. And to help me
make this magazine I added two guidelines so I will know where
everything goes and will help be with the layout.
Then I added a master head as you can see and I didn't
use any fancy writing, I just kept it plane and simple as
it’s a school magazine so therefore I done this as it will
be appropriate for the audience as its students that
taking exams or starting their school year off. I kept the
school logo as it looks good on the magazine and also I
added to lines below the master head as I had an idea of
writing something in those boxes of the main seat urges
of the magazine for example sports and other things.
That's what I have added so far with the school
magazine.
Then I didn't make any changes to the master
head and kept it the same but I added other
things such as the strap line under the master
head inside those boxes that I have made from
earlier and then I added a barcode for the
magazine below the the right hand side as a
magazine needs a barcode and also I have added
social media links below so that students will
know where to find us. I only added the main
social media links that are Facebook and Twitter.
The font I used for the strap line was just formal
so that it looks better and I'm using that
throughout my magazine.
3. After that I have added a image of my friend looking
directly at the camera and I only took a picture of one
person for the front camera as I didn't want to add more
that one person as I didn't feel comfortable adding more
than one person so therefore I just added one of my friends
as I though it might look good. I had to rub out the excess of
the pictures that was not needed and then enlarged the
image so that it will take most of the front cover so it gives
a better feel to the magazine and also it will look better
after I made the magazine a little bit bigger and it did.
I added a circle with a competition on it and the text I
used was just formal again and also I used the same colour
scheme As the background but I make it a little bit darker
from the original colour from the bar ground so that it will
stand out from the magazine and the reader will be able
to see what he/ she gets from the magazine. Also I added
some boxes beside the image to write in what the
magazine has to offer and the competitions that are
available. That's what I've done so far for this step for my
music magazine.
Finally I added the finishing touches to my magazine that was
the writing inside the boxes to my magazine so that was
needed such as what the magazine has to offer such as what
the magazine holds such as "tips on how to revise" and other
things that where important on the magazine. I basically
added all the main information the reader needs to know
about my magazine such as what offers and competitions as
still available and other things. After adding all these things in
that basically made up my front cover so therefore I was
finished with my front cover of the magazine that I have
made.
4. Preliminary Task Progression– Evidence
Contents Page
Step-by-step
I started off with the contents page with the same layout I was
given witch was the Maroon and blue colours with the same
school logo. I removed the boarders again and added the same
green type colour onto my contents page from my front colour
so that the colour is consistent from the front cover to the
contents page. Basically it was the same layout but then I
added a headline contents page on the top left of the page of
the magazine so that the reader knows what page it is. I added
the school logo on the contents page carrying on from the
front cover so that the magazine is consistent with what it
says.
Then I added the the name of the magazine below the
contents page so that it has some kind of show of what
the magazine is and I still used the same font from the
front cover to the contents page so that is consistent
from the start. Basically I copied and pasted the the
master head from the front cover to the contents page
and I just minimised it to a smaller font size under the
contents page headline. Then I added the editor
information on the right hand side with all that
information and I just copied and pasted a picture of me
from a picture of me that was taken.
After this I added the social media staff such
as Facebook and Twitter again carrying on
from the front cover so that the reader
doesn't need to go back all the way to the
front cover to see the social media links and
can just get it from the contents pages and I
added a picture of the logo of the social
media bases that I picked and added one
picture of the left and the other on the right
so that the picture can go onto the middle
of the contents page.
5. After this added the page number on the right
hand corner of the page and added the a image
of the same person from the front cover but just
a different picture and I added this of the left
hand side of the magazine as you can see and
both social media links on the left and right of
the picture. I wanted to add a picture on the
contents page as it will look good and give it the
detail for the magazine. That's what o have done
so far in this page if the contents page.
After that I added the headings of the story and I used
a boarder for that so that it will look nice and the
heading will stand out from the page and I used black
outlines so that it lifts out from the page and I added
other boarders that will make my magazine look good
for the stories. I added an oval kind of shape to make
my magazine look nicely layout. I added this oval kind
shave so that I can add page numbers so that the
reader knows where to go and also I added numbers
in the heading to such as "13-20" and then I added
below what's in between those pages and the stores
of them.
After writing the heading and doing the
boarders I added the page numbers in the
oval kind shape I made and added the
stories that the magazine includes and
what features in this magazines and the
font that I have used to do this is the same
font but a different colour so that the
letters stand out from the page and it will
be easy for the reader to read. That's the
main reason why I have added a different
colour on the writing of the text on the
contents page.
6. Lastly I just added the special offer on
the bottom of the page so that
everything will be layer out as I want the
readers to go through the magazine first
before entering some kind of
competition so therefore I had to add
that last so that they can go through my
magazine And that's the last thing that I
have done to my contents page and
that's all I have done to my contents
page.
8. Q magazine
This is the magazine that I have chosen to reach for my music magazine. The main
reason for this is because this Q magazine is a very popular and well known
magazine that nearly everyone knows about. This Q magazine company is a
respected highly read magazine as it is a popular magazine. The main reason why I
have picked this magazine is because this will give me an idea how how my
magazine could look like and how I could layout my magazine, basically this will give
me a over view of how my magazine may look like as this is a music magazine. But
this won't be the magazine I I am originally going to pick as this is mixed with
different genres such as rap, hip hop, english Rock and other staff so Hereford this
won't fit my purpose and target audience so therefore I'm looking for a hip hop
magazine such as vibe and XXL magazine. These are the types of magazines that I'm
considering looking at as that will give me more directions and inspiration for my
magazine. I'm not sure if in doing hip hop for real so therefore this will be a good
magazine to look at as this will give me an idea of what I may consider doing and Q
magazine covers more than one genre so therefore that's the reason why I have
been looking at this magazine.
9. Established magazine for my Research
As you can see on the chart 68.3% of the male gender read Q magazine and there are less females reading
the magazine so therefore this shows that I might consider making my target audience as males as they read
magazines more than females so therefore the target audience may be males. And also the age group that
reads the Q magazine most is teenagers Andalusia adults, basically the age group between 15-24 so
therefore the target audience for my magazine may be people in the age group between 15 to 24 as 35.5%
of the readers and between that age group and also that's where the most target audiences are and there is
a 26.3% of people in the age group of 25 to 34 reading Q magazine so therefore I think that this may be a
good age group as its not far for the other one. This Q magazine have a 70% of A,B,C1 profile groups. So
therefore this shows that theQ magazine have a wide range of audience from being a high managerial
audiences to a supervisory, audiences so this shows that Q magazine have a wide range of audiences from
different classes so therefore this is good.
The editor this is magazine is Andrew
Harrison.
This is a monthly magazine.
This is a music magazine with different
genres.
The publisher of this magazine is Bauer media
group.
First issue was in October 1986.
The language is English and its county of
origin is in the United Kingdom
10. Target Audience – Katz, Maslow, Hartley and/or socio-economic needs
The target audience for the Q magazine is British males as they have a dominant of males reading this
magazine and the target audience is probably males and they have a wide range of audiences of
females and males but from Q magazines chat , it tells us that the magazine is read by males more than
females so therefore the target audience is going to be males as they read the Q magazine more than
females so therefore their going to be the target audience . The age group that read Q magazine is In
the age group between 15-25 so therefore that's my target audience. So it will be males mostly in the
age group of 15 to 25 so therefore I'm guessing it's mostly males that read the magazine between that
age group. This will. E the audience from the Middle class background (Hartley) . As this magazine is
£3.90 I'm guessing that, that's the reason why the ages is between 15 to 25 as the age between 15 to 18
your parents provide you with pocket money which is disposable income so therefore you are willing to
spend it on things you like such as Q magazine, that's the main reason why the target audience is
between that age group.
What is the USP of this magazine? YOU MUST refer to specific conventions/stories from you
research
The unique selling point of Q magazine is that they have an ambiguous message on the spine that
makes the readers want to guess what will features into the music magazine. That they have
produced. The message has to be something to do with the magazine that they have done for
example one of their magazine and the, say thing something about the star of something that's
going to be shown soon that will get the magazine sold, basically something that will interest the
audience and that will be their unique selling point. The will get the readers involved with the
magazine and wanting to read the magazine and they need to feel involved with Q magazine and
be pro active, which can be referred as the spine line, this could be the example of an different as
(Steve Neal) some magazines won't work as hard as Q. Magazine so therefore I think that they
have a good selling point as they use techniques such as adding different things on that
magazines that will grab the readers attention and wanting them to buy the magazine and get
into the magazine and at least be part of that they make.
11. Master head: This
is large and bold and
also is consistent.
This is very eye
catchy as the
background is red
and they a white Q
that stands out from
the background of
the logo. This
encourages the
brand and it is
recognisable as its
easy to remember.
Strap line: This
shows that what Q
magazine have to
offer and what is that
main story about this
particular magazine
that will attract
different readers that
will find this
interesting.
Head line: This is
the main story of the
magazine and what
the magazine has to
offer for the readers.
This has been

14. My chosen music magazine genre
The magazine that I have chosen to look at is XXL a magazine. The reason for this is
because they are a hip hop magazine and this is what I have been looking and I like the
types of magazines that they have been doing as I want to make a magazine that kind of
looks like their s replicates theirs as they have a wide range of audience and also they are
doing the same music genre that I have been wanting t do which is hip hop. The main
reason why I have picked this magazine is because they are the most brought and read
magazine in the niche hip hop sector so therefore me using them as inspire ration will be
perfect as I like how they layout their magazines and also I like the way they publish their
magazine and they have a similar target audience to Q magazine so therefore I am
considering doing this magazine as this will be fitting in perfectly with my magazine. The
common colours used in the XXL magazine is red p, white and black and they have used
this colour scheme as they have asked their audience. This magazine will be a good
inspiration for me because it fits in with what I want to do and also I have many ideas
from looking at their past magazines and this made me choose this magazine as I can use
some of their brilliant ideas from their magazine to my magazine as I'm using XXL as my
magazine of inspiration.
16. Mater head: Big bold letters in a red
background with white letters and
this stands out with the colour
combinations that they have used.

magazine

of what this magazine has to
offer as it tells us that Dr Dre
has brought a new that that is
Kendrick Lamar so there is
decent amount of information
on the cover line.
Strap line: "special collectors
issue 15 year anniversary"
17. Established Magazine for my Research
XXL is one of the biggest magazines in the united states. This is a
hip hop magazine based in America. The frequency of this
magazine is 6 per year. The main target audience for XXL
magazine is males. XXL keeps up with the pace of hip – hops
dynamic energy and targets the trendsetter who lives for urban
music.
18. Target Audience – Katz, Maslow, Hartley and/or socio-economic needs
The target audience for this magazine is males in the age of 25 to 29 also people
that are into hip hop would get this magazine to even under 18s. The ethnicity
of this magazine really aims at African Americans more likely . This is more
aimed at males as Hip Hop is mainly aimed at males rather than females so
therefore XXL magazine reaches out to males more than females but XXL
magazine do have a wide range of audiences from a wide range of age groups.
Mainly the age group for this is going to have to be 15 to 25 as that’s the age
where people have disposable income to spend their money on things such as
magazines so therefore XXL magazine can be brought by teenagers as they are
more interested in Hip Hop than any other genres.
What is the USP of this magazine? YOU MUST refer to specific
conventions/stories from you research
The USP of this magazine that I have choose is putting known celebrities on the from
cover as a main image so that the target audience can notice and get the magazine
that they may idolize. They use very known stars that people are into and that is a
unique selling point as people will buy the magazine just because of the star
featuring in the magazine. The main thing they do that will grab the readers
attention is the latest Hip Hop news and interviews with starts that are known in the
Hip Hop music industry. The reviews and promotions on the XXL magazine will
attract readers from a wide range of people and this is good as it’s a unique selling
point.
19. Publisher research
