The document is an evaluation of Connor Hanna's media magazine project. It consists of responses to 8 questions about how the magazine used conventions of real magazines, represented its target audience of young rap/grime fans, would be published by a media company like Eldridge Industries, and how the technologies of PagePlus, Paint.net and Blogger were utilized in the project. Overall, Connor felt the final product mostly fulfilled the task brief, though the contents page could be improved.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

groups?
3. What kind of media institution might describe your media
product and why?
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing your product?
7. Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that
you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
8. How successful do you feel your end product is in fulfilling
the task? How well does it fit the brief?
3. Question 1
In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
4. Question 1
Throughout the process of me making my magazine I have been
analysing magazines so that I can learn how to use the codes and
conventions that other magazines use. I also looked at the effect
the codes and conventions have on the reader.
http://connorhannamedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/research-into-similar-
products_2.html
This exercise really helped me
as I got to learn about the set
out a cover with the different
cover lines and all the different
kinds of cover lines I can use
such as pugs and puffs. It also
taught me about good colour
schemes to use. `
5. Question 1
I have chosen a black and white
colour scheme as I believe it is
symbiosis for the anchorage text as it
makes him look like he is coming out
from the shadows with in the image. I
used a puff with the exclusive
interview which draws people in as
they wouldn't be able to find it
anywhere else. I have used the left
third with both a list of artists that will
be included in the magazine as
people would be more likely to see
artists that they like that will be
featured if they are all listed down the
left third. I have also included 2 of the
main articles on the left third. My
skyline has used the word 'best'
which makes readers want to see
this article for two reasons and this is
for recommendations for albums that
they could buy and also to see if their
favourite album of the year is
included with in the article.
6. Most of my influences were different versions of vibe magazine as they
are the most similar to the genre of music I wanted to do my magazine
on and so most of my research into similar products went into Vibe.
Question 1
For example I used the idea of
the coloured plus with the list of
other features in the magazine
underneath from this magazine.
As well as that I also made my
masthead similar to this
magazine with the medium close
up which covers the middle of
the masthead with the skyline
above which was inspired from
this magazine.
7. This contents page has one list of
features on the right hand side which
bold with a small description
underneath with the number of the
page it is on in red on the left hand side
of the artist. I liked this as it was simple
yet it still looked nice at the same time
and so I used this style in my magazine
contents page as well.
Question 1
I have carried on the black and white
colour scheme from the front cover and
I have 3 different pictures with 2 of them
being smaller images with a big one
above them to show that he is the main
article of the magazine.
8. In this magazine they have 1 page
with the artist and some anchorage
text and then an interview on the
right hand side with a little cover
story tag in the top right hand side.
This has different colours for the
questions and answers.
Question 1
I have used the idea of the image from
the contents page in the previous slide
where he is to the side facing back at the
camera and also with the different
colours depending on the background
from the trousers to the white
background.
10. My magazine is aimed towards teenagers and young adults
who are enjoy grime and rap music. Vibe magazine is the
most helpful magazine for me as it has a very similar genre
of music to my magazine.
My main artist is made to look hidden throughout the
magazine through covering his face in both the front cover
and the double page spread and this makes him seem very
tough and like he should not be messed with and this is
also done through his facial expressions which are
aggressive. The colour scheme of black and white really
show off his not to be messed with vibe.
Question 2
11. Question 3
What kind of media institution
might describe your media product
and why?
12. Question 3
http://connorhannamedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/research-into-similar-
products.html During the making of my magazine I took a look at magazines made by
different publishing companies. For example the magazine I looked at the most was
vibe magazine and their publishing company was called “Spinmedia” however I do not
believe that this would be the best company for my magazine to be published by as
they do not have a massive fan base with vibe being the only main magazine that they
published however Spinmedia was bought over by “Eldridge Industries while I was half
way through making my magazine and I believe that they are a much better publishing
group for my magazine as they own lots of different music magazines such as
billboard, vibe and also other very successful magazines such as The Hollywood
reporter.
14. My magazine targets mainly men who are in their late teens or are young
adults who are gangsters who are interested in the latest rap music. I have
done this by using artists that would be expected to be seen in a grime
magazine. The link below takes you to my research into different grime/rap
artists. http://connorhannamedia.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/research-into-
target-audience.html
Question 4
Vibe has a similar target
audience and so for my “Re-
make Re-model” task I used a
Vibe layout.
Vibe’s target audience is
mostly young adults under the
age of 30. So I used their
layout to help me make my
Volts magazine.
16. For my masthead I wanted the name to be quick, simple and catchy and I also
wanted it to cover the top of the page as I was trying to make it quite similar
to Vibe magazine. I made a questionnaire asking people what they thought
the best name was and the winner was volts.

arget=post;postID=6155196691498871806;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClo
sedMenu=allposts;postNum=19;src=postname. After I did this I made
another questionnaire asking people which font would be the best colour
scheme to use for my masthead.
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6415336165353850960#editor/t
arget=post;postID=1703742943260519438;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClo
sedMenu=allposts;postNum=17;src=postname However Blue and Black won
and once I started to make my magazine I decided to change it to black and
white as I felt it fitted the feel of the magazine better. The final questionnaire
I did was for the font and after this I had my masthead made. The font that
won was a font called “How do you sleep?”

sedMenu=allposts;postNum=16;src=postname
Question 5
17. I have 4 other supporting cover lines on my magazine cover and the reason I used the
Ice Cube cover line is because it is a puff and so you will not be able to get that
interview in any other magazine. The Gow-Z cover line is an up and coming artist and
so if people want to hear about someone that they haven't heard about before that
will make them more interested in reading the magazine. The Dizzee Rascal cover line
will make people want to see how he is going to revolutionize grime. Lastly the
Rihanna cover line will intrigue the reader as people will want to see what the cover
line means as it does not give anything away.
Question 5
18. Question 6
What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing your product?
19. Page plus is very easy to use as for the layout as it allows you to
change the size of the text both length and height wise. Also it had a
ready made template that we could then add the components of our
magazine to. On page plus you could see all of the pages together, It
also has a large range of fonts and tools which are easy to access and
use. However when a picture is added it does not look as good quality
as it does off of it. Also once you unselect a layer you can no longer
change the text that is on the previous layer. No variety in shapes that
can be used.
Paint.net is also very easy to use and understand. The use of layers
makes it very easy to put somebody in front of the masthead with the
background behind it. Also the lasso tool makes cutting out images
from the background very easy and then the eraser can be used to
make the edges smoother. It isn’t as good as page plus for editing a
page and putting everything together. The magic wand tool was often
not very accurate and so parts of the image you didn’t want to get rid of
would be taken out.
Question 6
20. I would use paint.net to cut out my stars from
the backgrounds of their images and then I
would transfer them onto page plus so that I
could put it into the correct place on my
magazine and resize it to fit perfectly in the
correct position.
Question 6
21. Question 6
I felt blogger was a very easy website to use as you could upload
when you wanted and you could add hyperlinks as well as jpegs.
Blogger keeps everything in one place and so is very easily organised.
It is connected to my Gmail account and so it very easy to remember
my login details as I use them very regularly. The fact that it is online is
useful as you do not need to keep lots of paper work and carry it
around with you or have to save everything onto an easily losable
USB.
22.
23. Question 7
Looking back to your preliminary task,
what do you feel that you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full
product?
24. In my preliminary task my main cover image is not big
enough as it only covers a third of the actual cover. Also it
is very stretched out sideways. The cover lines are not
surrounding the image and there are not enough of the
cover lines. I do not give proper credit to the cover line.
There is not a price on the magazine and lastly the colour
scheme does not work with the image and the golden
stars.
Question 7
25. Question 7
My preliminary task does not have enough features on there for a
magazine and the artist is not the same as it is in the front cover which
would never happen in a magazine. The image does not got with the
colour scheme with the blue and white sky that has red and black text in
front of it. This does not go well together. The writing is way too big for
the contents and so takes up loads of space and also their is too much
writing on each feature of the contents page.
26. Question 8
How successful do you feel your end
product is in fulfilling the task? How
well does it fit the brief?
27. Question 8
I am very happy with my magazine as a whole as
I believe I have covered the correct codes and
conventions and I believe it fits the brief well.
Through the research into similar products I was
able to see what a rap magazine would look like
and what it would feature. However I do believe
that my contents page could be improved as the
images look like just a couple of modelling shots
and also the layout looks slightly clumsy but my
cover page and double page spread I am very
happy with.
