2. Finding the appropriate location(s) for the film
was a little tricky in early development stages.
As in the first draft of the script, it’s a story
about a girl in her bedroom reading a book that
seems to manifest its story into reality.
So, there aren’t many location options for a
story like this.
One initial idea was for the character to find the
book in an ally and read it there,
Another idea was for the protagonist to find it
dropped on a bench in a park and read it there.
In the end I went for the option of a simple
bedroom. It makes the most sense and is the
most relatable set location for people since
everyone has a bedroom. Although the most
simple choice, it doesn’t regard the fact that
simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
3. Originally there was supposed to be two locations in
the short film opening sequence. It consisted of a
book store and then the main house.
I decided to rid of the book store since it wouldn’t
make a lot of sense in the story. In the story, the
book doesn’t have an author and the only evidence
of it being directed to a person is in the first page of
the book : “ to Oswald Duckstein “. So the book store
obviously wouldn’t have the license to be able to sell
this book
Having just the bedroom of the house as the main and
only setting of the short film, gives an intentional sense
of immersing the audience in the situation. Having
different scenes and locations unconsciously reminds the
viewer that this is a film. Having the bedroom as the only
setting removes this unconscious message and
manipulates the viewers thinking state, since they are
subconsciously used to receiving these reminders.

The atmosphere is as if the audience is in the bedroom as
well. All elements of the opening sequence are guided to
confuse the viewer, have it be, location, camera play, sound
design.
