2. DUNSTABLE DOWNS
• The first location which I went to and looked around was Dunstable Downs. I went to the woodland
area at the back of the downs at around 11am – as this will be the time of day which I will film my music
video. While there, I noticed that it was reasonably quiet, therefore making it the perfect location as it
means there will be minimal background noise and less distractions for my actors.
• In terms of lighting, I thought that the downs was perfect. This is due to the vast amount of tress,
making the area look quite dull and dim – however still bright enough to be able to shoot successfully.
This is good because I want my opening few clips to have this dull atmosphere, due to the fact that the
song is emotional and about heartache.
• The woodland area was also away from any main roads, so it’s quiet as well as safe. In terms of the
location itself, I was really impressed with the amount of scenic locations I could use to produce some
effective shots.
3. LONDON SOUTHBANK
• The next location I went to was London Southbank, and the Graffiti wall. I arrived in London at around
9:15am, and found that on a weekday it was relatively quiet along Southbank. This was good news,
because it meant that my location (the wall) wasn’t hectic at all, and so it’ll be suitable to film at.
• In terms of noise, it was quite loud around the area due to the two train stations (Waterloo and
Blackfriars) nearby. However, this won’t be an issue when it comes to editing because I will be cutting
all sound out in order to overlay my track on top of the clips.
• I have therefore come to the conclusion that I will be able to film here, as long as I go on a weekday at
an early time – when it’s less busy.
• Due to the fact that London is quite far, about 40mins by train, I have decided that when I go there I will
film all my London shoots in one day; therefore meaning that I only have to go once and it’ll be less
expensive.
4. LUTON HOO
• I also went to Luton Hoo as part of my location spotting. I loved this location due to how unique it is,
and I think it’ll fit in brilliantly with the vibe I am going for with my video. I visited Luton Hoo at 4pm,
which was late afternoon after I had finished my lessons. When I got there, it was nice and quiet with
just a few people inside. As I am going to be filming outside of the Hoo, I walked around the grounds
and found that it was perfect.
• There are a number of nice locations in the grounds, e.g. Spiral staircases and Stone Balconies, which I
am going to film at. As they’re outside, lighting wouldn’t be an issue because my set will be lit up with
natural lighting instead of synthetic. I also noticed a sign as I walked into the grounds informing me that
dogs were not allowed around the park, and this will work to my benefit as it avoids any risk of dogs
getting in the way of the set.
• The Hoo is also easy to travel to, as it’s just a 10 minute drive, and free to enter. This therefore means
that it’s an ideal location.
5. MY HOUSE
• I have also decided to use my house for some clips, especially the bedrooms. I have decided to use my
sister’s bedroom for any interior shots because it is a lot bigger than mine, and will therefore fit camera
equipment easily. In terms of lighting, my house is fine because the sun shines through he back
windows – therefore meaning that natural lighting is good enough to use on set. I will film here on the
evenings, probably before 5:30pm as that is when my parents get home so it’ll be busier.
• I think this is a good location to use because it is definitely accessible and I can use it whenever –
therefore meaning that there will be no restrictions on filming which could cause me to have to change
ideas last minute.
6. LEAGRAVE/BLACKFRIARS TRAIN STATIONS
• For one of my clips, I have decided that I want a panning shot of a train pulling away from a platform.
Therefore, I will film this either on my way to London, or my way back from filming my London based
shots. The train stations I get on/off at are Leagrave and Blackfriars; both of which are never too busy.
At the times which I went to (and will go to) London, I made a note of how busy the station was and
have decided that it should be suitable to film at. This is because although the station was relatively
busy, there was still enough room for me to quickly shoot my video as it’s only a minor clip.
• Lighting: Both stations are open and outdoors; to natural lighting will be used.
