Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Genre
• Free sheets are free newspapers published for the
public.
History
• The paper was launched in London on 16 March
1999, and can now be found in many towns and cities
across the UK. It is part of the same media group as
the Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday, although, in
some areas, Metro operates as a franchise with a local
newspaper publisher, rather than as a wholly owned
concern. In 2017, it became the most-read newspaper
in the UK, according to monthly NRS figures.
Readership
Target Audience
• The target audience of free sheets are to those who
mainly take transportation via train to work so they
would be most likely hardworking individuals who want
to have a little read on the journey.
3. Genre
• Red top tabloid’s are newspapers that are
distinguished through their bright red masthead.
History
• The red top tabloid is, for many, the prototypical
example of the format; the ubiquity of this
editorial style among newspapers of the tabloid
format has made it persist in the minds of the
public. Red top tabloids, named after their
distinguishing red mastheads, employ a form of
writing known as tabloid journalism; this style
emphasizes features such as sensational crime
stories, astrology, gossip columns about the
personal lives of celebrities and sports stars,
and junk food news.
Readership
Target Audience
• The target audience for a red top tabloid would
be anyone who likes gossip, crime stories or just
just general junk news which would be mainly
aimed at those who have an interest in the
country and what's happening in it as well as the
world.
4. Genre
• A broadsheet is the largest newspaper format and is
characterized by long vertical pages (typically 22 inches or 56
centimeters). The term derives from types of popular prints
usually just of a single sheet, sold on the streets and
containing various types of material, from ballads to political
satire.
History
• Historically, broadsheets developed after the British in 1712
placed a tax on newspapers based on the number of their
pages. Larger formats, however, had long been signs of status
in printed objects, and still are in many places, and outside
Britain the broadsheet developed for other reasons, including
style and authority, unrelated to the British tax structure.
Readership
Target Audience
• The target audience is aimed at those who wish to know what
is currently happening around the world with all the problems
that its facing at the moment. This may be quite a large group
of people due to the fact everyone wishes to know what's
happening around the world at the moment.

• Red top tabloid- Red top tabloids, named after their distinguishing red mastheads, employ a
form of writing known as tabloid journalism; this style emphasizes features such
as sensational crime stories, astrology, gossip columns about the personal lives of celebrities
and sports stars, and junk food news. They are known to make stories seem exaggerated to
appeal to the target audience that they have chosen and add personality to it. They normally
add scandalous stories to the stories to be interesting (Galtung &Ruge).

6. Deconstruction of a front
cover
Masthead:
The colour of the red background of the bold
masthead can signify its importance along with it
being a red top tabloid which is about gossip and
crime that’s been happening
Lead story:
The denotation of the
lead story is ‘Stiff
upper flip’ which is a
pay on words which
can signify it has a
humorous element to
the story that will be
revealed in the
newspaper. This is a
good way to appeal to
the audience as it
makes them want to
read on and why they
would advertise the
story in that manner.
Side story:
The side story of the
front cover are located
around the lead story in
small cutouts. However
due to their importance
they too are put on the
front cover and it helps
with giving a little more
information to the
audience to what else
will be featured in the
newspaper.
Main image:
The main image is located next to
the main headline of the main
story to show what the story is
talking about. This is also used to
show some importance as
without it the audience would not
know how serious the story is or
whether it is just some junk news.
7. Deconstruction of a double
page spreadThe Copy:
These give small snippets of the main story and is
used to try and make the reader interested and
get them to read the while article instead of
skipping it.
Opening invitation
This is the start of the article,
the first sentence is in bold to
grab the readers attention and
invites them to read on and see
what else the article has to offer
to the reader.
Opinions
Within this article there are
smaller columns of writing
that focus on the suns
opinion about the story as
well as other story's that are
happening that are linked to
it. This is to get the reader
more motivated to read on
about the story and know all
the facts about it before
making their own opinion on
the story.
Associated images
There are limited associated
images to the story but the
ones that have been picked
are placed so that they are
linked with their mentioning in
the article. They are also
strategically placed so that
along with the main image
they capture the eye of the
reader and to get them to read
more about it.
Main image
The main image is located nearly in the
center of the page therefore this can be
interpreted as an important feature in the
article and would be used to identify what
the article is about before reading anything
as it would be one of the main things that
get the readers attention in the first place.
Page number
The page number is
located at the top
of the page in the
corners to help the
reader identify
where they are in
the newspaper so
that they can refer
to it at a later point
in time
9. Deconstruction of a front
cover- Galtung and Ruge
Threshold- this
story is important
enough to print
due to the fact that
the story is about a
member of the
royal family having
mental pain on a
situation.
Proximity- due to the Sun being a British
newspaper and the royals being British as well,
this makes it most likely to be featured on the
front cover as the nation can relate to them and
they themselves are important to the nation.
Continuity- this
story will be
featured over an
extended period
of time but not
too long due to it
concerning the
royal family which
is a huge part of
the nations
culture.
Personalisation- the
story is focused
primarily on the
royals which makes it
more interesting for
readerships as they
are very famous and
well known around
the globe.
Unambiguity- they’ve
simplified the story to
capture the readers
attention by stating
that the royal family is
suffering from mental
pain.
10. Deconstruction of a double
page spread
Continuity- this story will be
featured only once due to it
not being as important as
other stories that may
feature celebrities in future
issues.
Unambiguity- they’ve simplified the
story to capture the readers
attention by stating that gaming is
like heroin which is a well known and
very dangerous drug that ruin
peoples lives.
Personalisation-
the story is focused
primarily on
gaming which can
be related to many
people but mainly
younger people as
they would have
grown up in a
world where
gaming was the
newest thing and
they got involved in
it due to how
popular it got.
Threshold- this
story is important
enough to print
due to the fact
that the story is
about a gaming
which is very
popular with the
younger
generation and
how it links with
something much
more serious and
dangerous which
in this case is
drugs. This makes
it very eye
catching.
11. Relationship between
advertisement and publisher
The newspaper includes advertisement called Mrs. crunch which is
in partnership with Morrison's. It is a strategic way in increasing
sales at the supermarket stores around the U.K.. The purpose of
Mrs. crunch is to help shoppers save money on their weekly family
shop for groceries. It is set to last for a period of 4 years to be
featured in the newspaper. It only gives ideas on the product, not
about saving money. This is the first time in history the sun has
formed an advertorial partnership for readers. In the middle of the
advertisement it shows what is currently being instore in the shops
and what is new which will appeal to people who tend to be the
one who does the shopping. The backpage shows of an event
which in this case is a big toy event which would be usefull for
birthday and Christmas ideas for the children. Morrisons has been
in partnership with the sun since 2014.
12. Extension between advertiser and
publisher
Its an extension between the
relationship between Morrison's and
the sun by producing small adverts.
Verbal is all about the
British with their meat
and vegetables. This
shows they are being
very partriotic.
