Sweatshops were first well known to the public eye when several major corporations exploitation of
workers were revealed during the late twentieth century. Sweatshops generally are factories that
provide workers with socially unacceptable working conditions, especially dealing with clothing
items. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are using
sweatshop factories to their advantage. Numerous companies claim that they are not responsible for
actions of those factories from which they purchase from because it is not part of their corporation.
However, action needs to be taken by the government and individual corporations to improve the
working conditions in sweatshop factories. Due to the harsh working environment, insufficient pay,
and other factors that cause inhumane treatment of workers in sweatshops, the US government should
improve working conditions for workers, have stricter regulations on sweatshops, and strive to

Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, from the time we are born until the time we die we are
consuming energy. Currently the majority of this energy comes from fossil fuels (i.e. coal, natural gas,
and oil). Fossil fuels made up eighty seven percent of the energy consumed worldwide in 2012
(Gonzalez Lucky). There are many people who do not believe there is an energy crisis, or that there is
anything wrong with depending on fossil fuels, however fossil fuels are non renewable, which means
once they are gone we are unable to create more. In addition, the carbon that is located in fossil fuels
and released from when used for energy, contributes to the rising global temperature (Maehlum,
2013). This is not the only detrimental effect of fossil fuels, but is perhaps the most serious. The
alternate option is to use alternative energy sources (i.e. wind, solar, nuclear, and hydroelectric). These
sources are considered renewable, because they are able to replenish and restore themselves over a
short period of time (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency). These sources involve using specialized
technology to harness Earth s natural energy and convert it into a form that we are able to use. While
alternative energy sources can still have a slight effect on the environment, they generally have less of
