Assessing the relationship between right wing authoritarianism and climate change beliefs.
As time goes by, Earth is becoming more at risk of climate change effects (Commoner, 1990, as
cited in Schultz and Stone, 1994). Nearly all scientists agree that the change is caused by the acts
of humans (Intergovernmental, 2007 as cited in Hakkinen and Akarami 2014). Though, with this
being said, it seems that people are not that worried and it is not being discussed as much as it
should be. (Maibach, Feinberg Howe 2013, as cited in Hakkinen and Akarami 2014). Within this
study I am going to be investigating the relationship between right wing authoritarianism and
climate change beliefs. In previous studies such as Peterrson et all (1993), their data showed that
with high levels of right wing authoritarianism can lead to negative social issues, but within the
study there was nothing significant when it came to climate change beliefs. Following this was an
investigation done by Shultz and Stone (1994). This study showed that there was data to suggest
that there was a negative relationship between RWA and CC beliefs. In 2014, Hakkinen and
Akrami s study also found a negative relationship between the two but also found that when shown
a news cast before answering can change a person s answers about environmental issues. After

Composition: Analysis Chapter Nine, The Leech from the Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the most iconic books in history; its storyline,
theme and literal characters have made an impact on the world of literature for hundreds of years.
What stands out the most in the book is the use of archaic diction and figurative language, which
serve to paint vivid, descriptive pictures of each character, specifically, Roger Chillingworth. In
chapter nine of The Scarlet Letter, The Leech , Nathaniel Hawthorne uses setting, allusion,
metaphor, irony, diction, and tone to reveal Roger Chillingworth, the town Leech s, evil, ominous
character displayed by his actions and words. Throughout chapter nine of The Scarlet Letter,
Hawthorne places Chillingworth in or near the cemetery by the widow s house, an ominous setting
that foreshadows his death. During the book as a whole, Chillingworth usually pops up in spooky
settings, such as Hester s jail cell, the woods, Dimmesdale s dark lit room, and the scaffold at night,
these all playing into the eerie nature of Chillingworth himself. Towards the beginning of this
chapter, it is suggested that Chillingworth had come to terms with the reality of his estranged wife,
Hester, having a child by another man, and was so distraught and embarrassed that he changed his

I chose to attend the Alcoholic Anonymous meeting at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church on the
north side of Chicago. I chose to visit a church because I wanted to see if there was a religious
aspect thrown into the session. The name of the session was called Big Book Stop Study. This
session occurs every Monday at 7:00pm, as an open meeting. The meeting lasted for an hour. The
session was led by three members, Kyle, Tamara, and Melissa. There was fourteen participants
within the group. I was very apprehensive about attending a meeting because I didn t want to be

The concept of sustainable development has become a major topic among intellectuals from
various fields. Sustainable development has gone through various changes in its definitions and at
present does not have a commonly accepted definition. The origination of the concept of sustainable
development is debatable. In 1974 at a conference on Science and Technology for Human
Development by the World Council of Churches the concept of a sustainable society is believed to
have been first noted. This early concept focused on equitable distribution of scarce resources and

The actual definition of sustainable development may not be accepted by everyone but what is
important is the recognition that sustainable development is about the balance of the connected Es,
Economy, Environment, and Equity.
The health of the earth degrades with the destructive activity of human beings. A recent study by
a group of scientists looked at twenty four different services that the earth s ecosystems provide
for humans, ecosystem services, and found that fifteen of them are in need of desperate help
(Gazette 31 March 2005). These services are vital to the survival of both human and nonhuman
life and include filtering water and providing nutrient rich soils and ocean waters. Many of the
members of these various ecosystems are also decreasing in numbers. In a British survey of bird
populations found that in the 200 birds of Britain tracked there was about a 54% population
decrease between the 1968 1971 tacking period and the 1988 1991 tacking period. In two other
surveys of 254 native plant species from the same area there was a decrease of about 28% during
the past 40 years. Humans are pushing the sixth mass extinction (Gazette March 19, 2004).
Many people believe that the Sustainable Revolution began with concern for the environment. The
way we portray our relation to the natural world has changed since the times of Thoreau and
