Factors influencing our ability to
listen effectively
THE MOREYOU KNOW.
There are a lot of factor that will influence
somebody ability to listen properly. environmental
could be a key factor that would distract the
listener.
Being aware of our own filters can help us listen
more effectively. Interviewers can prepare a check-
list to help them make sure that proper attention is
paid to all the relevant messages and that the
effects of selective are minimized. An awareness of
personal bias may also help with the interpretation
of information
The Speaker
Speaker characteristics can influence our
ability to listen. Who the speaker is can affect
how the message is interpreted. sometimes we
hear the people only but not the message
.Messages from high-status people may
receive more attention than messages from
low-status people. A common problem which
detracts from the effectiveness of work groups
is the inappropriate way in which members
often weigh the contributions of others
The Listener
Premature formulation of response.
While someone is talking to us we listen
and interpret what they aresaying.
However, we may sometimes begin to think about how to reply
before the other person has finished speaking. This kind of
premature response, even if only in the mind, can undermine
our ability to listen. The effect of working out a reply before
the other party has finished speaking may be illustrated by
thinking about what you picture when you hear the words
‘Woman, Table, Knife, Cloth’.

Being aware of our own filters can help us listen more effectively. Interviewers can prepare a check- list to help them make sure that proper attention is paid to all the relevant messages and that the effects of selective are minimized. An awareness of personal bias may also help with the interpretation of information

However, we may sometimes begin to think about how to reply before the other person has finished speaking. This kind of premature response, even if only in the mind, can undermine our ability to listen. The effect of working out a reply before the other party has finished speaking may be illustrated by thinking about what you picture when you hear the words ‘Woman, Table, Knife, Cloth’.
