Compare The Emergence Of First Financial Crisis In 1720...
The emergence of First Financial Crisis in 1720 and the stock market crash of 1929 were both
the results of speculation, but also market inflex ibilities. The South Sea Bubble of 1720
succeeding Financial Revolution events in England, had its major shadow on European economy.
The crash of 1929 in US was closely tied to post war consequences and the over op timism of
Golden 20 .While both crises were separated in time by the two centuries, similarities between them
outgrow the differences.
Firstly, it s crucial to set both events in time and compare the circum stances in which they
occurred. The first quarter of 18th century was a revolutionary period for British financial market.

The irrational speculative activity, through spread of false claims of success by the directors of
South Sea Company, had increased the share prices from ВЈ128 in January up till ВЈ1050 in June.
Price movements were further fostered by an an nouncement of the Bubble Act of 1720 a document
disallowing the crea tion of joint stock companies without Parliamentary approval. As R.
Cameron says it was the South Sea Company itself that had persuaded the British Parliament to
sign the agreement, in order to regain the com petition in the market. Nevertheless in July stock

Executive Summary:
Pizza hut is faced with challenges as they try to get their toe in the water and enter the market in
Moscow. The challenges are: * Lack of standard supply chain process * Cultural clashes *
Language barriers * Service differentiation for Ruble and hard currency customers * High exchange
rates and complication in pricing (government versus black market rates) * Communication
(disconnect between the local employees and the management team) * Employees had to work long
hours and cover for absentees * Turnover and ongoing training for the new staff jeopardized the

* Lack of mozzarella cheese availability. Cheese had to be imported until local producers were
able to meet demand. Also, cows had to be put on a specific diet to be able to produce the right
type of milk. * Russia desired local sourcing. But, quality and reliability was low. * Lack of
refrigerated trucks to transport products. * Poor communication. * Lack of construction supplies.
* Culture clash * Western aggressive working culture versus Russian s relaxed working culture. *
Unstable political system * Government closed both restaurants shortly after opening for not
possessing sanitation permit. However, this was mainly due to power struggles between Russian
government parties. * 300% increase on basic food product prices and only 20% rise in wages. Pizza
Hut had to increase its price by 40%. Products were becoming less affordable to locals. * Need to
purchase supplies from black market for higher price. * Human Resources * Pay incentive
system was a failure. * Poor communication between Russian management and employees. *
Employee count was 3 times more than western Pizza Hut due to low productivity. Local

Octavian, the Greatest Roman Leader Essay
Octavian enabled the long, nonviolent time of the Pax Romana, (Latin for Roman peace) by
changing Rome from a frail, collapsing republican government to a powerful empire. He is known
as the first, and one of the greatest, Roman Emperors ever. Octavian was born on September 23, 63
BC, and died in 14 AD. Born with the name Gaius Octavius Thurinus, he was adopted
posthumously by his great uncle Gaius Julius Caesarvia his will, and then was named Gaius Julius
Caesar Octavianus. This happened in 44 BC when his great uncle, Julius Caesar, was assassinated
by a group of conspirators. Additionally, he received the name Augustusa term meaning the revered
one from the Roman Senate in 27 BC. Because of the various names he had, it is... Show more

After this, Octavian joined Caesar in the Spanish expedition in 46 BC despite of his delicate
health. He earned the admiration of Caesar during this daring journey. Then Octavian was sent
by Caesar to Apollonia, Greece to finish his education. Octavian was only eighteen years old
and living in Apollonia, when he heard the news of Caesar s assassination. He found out that he
was Caesar s adopted heir, and faced an array of advice from family, friends, and army officers.
In 44 BC he took the name Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus, after the murder of Julius Caesar.
Octavian s family begged him to stay where he was and renounce his inheritance because they
thought the assassins of Caesar were very strong. Octavian did not take his families advice, and
in a tremendously daring act he announced that he was going to Rome to claim what was his and
avenge Caesar s death. Instead he went directly to Brundisium and gathered the large amount of
troops located there. To make sure that people knew who he was, he called himself Caesar. This
identified him fully with his adoptive father, and gave him legitimacy. He switched from the
unknown Octavian to Caesar, or son of Caesar. Because of this, many of the soldiers from
Brundisium joined his cause, and the army grew in size and skill. Octavian tried to make friends
with the leaders of the Roman army, but Mark Antony and Lepidus opposed Octavian s claim to
power

Clara Wieck Schumann and the Struggle for Equality in...
Clara Wieck Schumann and the Struggle for Equality in Nineteenth Century Germany The place of
women before and during the nineteenth century is well summarized by a Bavarian statute book,
which states that by marriage, the wife comes under the authority of the husband and the law
allows him to chastise her moderately (Gay 177). These ideas are similarly echoed in the
Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the
Citizen and the writings of Jean Jacques Rousseau. The former did not afford women any of the
rights provided for men, such as liberty, property, resistance to oppression, voting, free speech, etc.;
the latter reasoned that because women were the weaker sex, they should not (and moreover could
not) be a part of society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also during this period, nationalism was on the rise and encompassed nearly all aspects of
universities, which increasingly allowed women access to an education, opening the door for their
liberation (Gay 48).
Very often during this period, women experienced great monotony in their lives and became jaded
with the tasks they performed day after day. While some women put up with this hackneyed life,
others struggled to free themselves from it. Many not only fought for rights but against injustices
their sex had sustained in previous centuries (Gay 172). The end of the nineteenth century saw an
increased activism by women, who argued against their dominated position and for fundamental
changes in laws (Gay 177). While there did exist some men who supported women and believed
their deprivation of many rights was unjust, many more were disheartened with the advancing
woman. Because men had come to relax in their domineering role, they became uncomfortable, if
not fearful, when women showed their independence. This led to a bourgeois culture which can
be summed up in a single word: uncertainty (Gay 48, 171). Changes were occurring at a rapid
pace, and many older, more conservative citizens saw this as a time of frenzied disregard for the
concrete, sustained values and morals with which they had been raised. The nineteenth century was
a time when all facets of life religious, political, sexual were being questioned

Dealing with Annular Pressure Build Up
Annular pressure build up (APB) is an important problem in the areas of well design. Although
different suggestions have been proposed to mitigate APB, including vacuum insulated tubing,
silicate foam wellbore insulation techniques, and insulating completion (packer) fluids, consistent,
robust APB mitigation solutions that include the optimized annular fluid rheology of the trapped
drilling fluids in the outer annuli are needed to better handle this problem.
The convective and conductive heat transfer through the trapped drilling fluid between the casing
strings is a driving force for increasing the annular pressure. This study explains how to design
and optimize the rheological and thermal properties of drilling fluid to provide a sustainable and
reliable insulating performance. The objectives of this study are 1) to develop a better insight of
APB in the annulus of casing and 2) to experimentally measure and 3) analytically model the effect
of different parameters, such as rheological and thermal properties, on the insulating performance of
drilling fluid trapped in annular spaces. By combining the theory of sedimentation and the model
proposed for free convective heat transfer of Yield Power Law fluids across parallel plates, a
stepwise guideline was proposed to estimate the Nusselt number and thermal conductivity
coefficient profile of trapped drilling fluid. A computer code to perform this procedure has been
developed. Additionally, a unique experimental apparatus was

Analysis Of Countess Elizabeth s Lady Dracula
Countess Elizabeth Lady Dracula Bathory de Ecsed was born on August 7, 1560 in Transylvania,
Romania to George Bathory and Anna Bathory. She was born to a very wealthy family that
contained powerful people such as cardinals, princes, kings, and prime ministers which gave her
the privilege of living in the family castle, Esced. Through her childhood, she was very educated;
she was able to learn a few languages such as greek, latin, hungarian, and German. Although she
was highly educated, she was also taught false acts by her uncles and aunts. Her uncle taught her
acts of satanism and her aunt taught her about sadomasochism, which is giving or receiving

He forgave her though when he returned home. One day, while Elizabeth was getting ready for
the homecoming of her husband, her maid had saw that something was wrong with her dress. As
the maid went to fix it, Elizabeth hit her with a brush so hard that blood was taken from the maid.
As Elizabeth went to clean off the blood from her body, she noticed the pleasing effects that the
blood had on her body. She believed that the blood made her skin look younger and more vibrant.
In 1604, Ferencz died from unknown causes but when he did die, Ferencz mother took Elizabeth s
four kids which caused Elizabeth to try to banish her mother in law from the country.
Ferencz death caused Elizabeth to torture and kill people more. Most of Bathory s victims were
young daughters of the local peasants. Many of them were lured into Elizabeth s castle after she
offered to pay them to work as maids/servant. She would then begin to torture them. She had
many ways to do this such as an iron maiden, which was a coffin with spikes in it. The spike
would cause significant bleeding and cause blindness due to the stabbing in the eyes. The victims
would later bleed to death. She also had a cylindrical cage. This cage contained spikes and it was
too small to sit or stand in. The cage was then raised and rocked which would stab the victim
causing them to die. She would also raise a cage, poke the victims with a hot poker and stab them.
She would lay under the cage

to be different and that she should appreciate her family s culture. She learns this after one very
long and embarrassing Christmas Eve supper with the preacher s family. In this story Tan uses
several different times rhetoric devices. She uses imagery, ethos, and pathos. Imagery is used to
give the reader a better description of the story. Ethos and pathos are used when the child and
mother have an disagreement about their emotions and feelings. Her word choice ,diction, in the
story also has an impact on the story. Imagery is the how the describe the story to you to help you

The Influence Of Barbie Dolls
Many children learn life skills from the toys they play with. Legos teach children how to build
objects while following direction. Coloring books help kids with motor skills and creativity.
Even basketballs, and footballs teach kids teamwork and physical endurance. Barbie dolls show
girls that they have to be put together, wear heels, and have the perfect life with the perfect car
and the perfect boyfriend. The old Barbie doll was very unhealthy in the way she looked, and
this showed girls a bad example on what their bodies needed to look like. New Barbies are made
to show what a healthy person should look like. They have new body types like curvy, short, and
tall to show that not everyone looks the same. Old Barbies brought young girls confidence down
because of their unhealthy body type, while new Barbies, with more body types, skin tones, and
eye colors, boost girls confidence. Barbies are a huge part of American girls culture, and their
unhealthy body was making young girls less confident. A study showed that after girls looked at
Barbies their self esteem went down, while girls who saw a more realistic doll felt no change in
their self esteem (APA Staff). This is important because Barbies are a large part of American
culture, so if playing/looking at Barbies makes girls self esteem go down, that means many girls
in America must have some type of body confidence issue. To add on to this point, the old version
of Ken as well as Barbie shows an unhealthy body type,

Human Experimentation Persuasive Essay
Hi, I m Katie snow and I will be supporting why human experimentation is ethical. I d like to start
off saying that society often forgets the contribution human experimentation has had in vaccines,
medical treatment, psychiatry, and the military. For example Although Cancer has been incurable
since the day of its diagnosis recent studies and acts of human experimentation we have
discovered a breakthrough! In 2011 a little girl diagnosed with Cancer named Emily was given the
opportunity to be one of the first patients to volunteer for human experimentation were doctors

Emily s trial her cancer started going away and eventually was cured! The example given is just one
of many representations of how human experimentation is changing the world today answering

Although experiments in the past where inhumane and practiced unsupervised by a higher power,
we do not practice human experimentation the same way other countries have in the past. The
world is changing we do not live in any other time period but today in the present. We are
educated civilized people with laws and governments! Others may argue that human
experimentation in the past has been taken too far. For example in the early 1900s specifically
1930s the holocaust began. The holocaust as we all know was a devastating, heartbreaking, and
cold time, but we also must remind ourselves that yet it was a sad and devastating piece of history
it also was a breakthrough in science. During the time of the holocaust many Jews where

The Characters Of Antigone And Draupadi
Every religion has a hero in their myth, which can vary in terms of their country. Greece has
more than one hero in their myths which include people such as Herakles and Antigone or in
continuation, a very intelligent and strong person such as India s Draupadi. There are a vast
amount of heroes and anti heroes present in David A. Leeming s The World of Myth, and each
manage to overcome colossal obstacles or leave a legacy in both passive and active manners. For
instance, Draupadi from India is a passive woman throughout the chapter, however at the end she
becomes an active character, and the reader grasps how intelligent and powerful she is after
refusing to be enslaved from the follies of her 5 husbands. On the other hand, Antigone from
Greece is an active herothroughout the beginning, defending her brother s right to be buried as
the law of the gods permit it. Although her death stopped her from being active, her legacy
continued, punishing King Creon for enforcing this immoral law. Both Antigone and Draupadi are
female heroes who have impacted their communities, however, it is accomplished differently
because Antigone is an active character until her death and Draupadi is a dynamic character who
changes from passive to active when she is being gambled. In the beginning of Greece s Antigone
by Sophocles, Antigone is introduced as the brave daughter of King Oedipus and her active
character has a heroic calling to respect religious codes from the gods. For instance, all

The Fascination Of Murder, By Scott Bonn Essay
For centuries, murder cases have captivated the lives of individuals. From news station
broadcastings to the media creating films and documentaries, homicide cases have gained the
interest and popularity of many individuals. This begs the question as to what lies in the fascination
of murder? The basis of this can be found in the psychological state of individuals including, the
experience of thrill, curiosity, the need for answers, and fear. When an individual becomes
fascinated with murder, they may be drawn in by a certain rush or thrilling experience. This
experience is similar to that of a whodunit , a novel, play, or movie in which the murderer is not
revealed until the very end (Merriam Webster, n.d.). In both circumstances, individuals are
captivated by tension and uncertainty. Along with this, Scott Bonn, a criminology professor at
Drew University, states that The euphoric effect of true crime on human emotions is similar to that
of roller coasters...and allows individuals to experience fear and horror in a controlled environment
(Bonn, 2016). A prime example of this includes the infamous murders committed by Jack the
Ripper. In 1888, five women were brutally murdered by a man who went by the name of Jack the
Ripper . During the time of these killings, serial murder became a new phenomenon that was highly
publicized (Top 10 Unsolved Crimes, n.d.). Additionally, Professor Bonn s theory on the science
behind humans interest for murder states, The

Good Vs. Evil In The Epic Of Beowulf
Beowulf is thought to be one of the first major English epics estimated to be written between
(insert time period) and is still to this day considered one of the greatest epics of all time. What
typically would characterize a proper epic is the use of a main character known as the Epic Hero
with a supernatural enemy that compliments the character s traits. An epic also recounts travels,
quests and heroic battles; as well highlights the ideas of good vs. eviland moral dilemmas. It is
through the portrayal of the great heroBeowulfand his battles with foes to cater to the greater good
that this epic is brought to life and immortalized.
It is fitting to think that Beowulf is possibly the first major epic because in many ways, it proves
to be very simple in the idea of what an epic truly is about. In any proper epic, the idea of good
vs. evil is always prevelant. There is the idea that a protagonist must go against an antagonist in
effort to defend the greater good. Beowulf surrounds the conflict between a brave and mighty
warrior and demons from hell. Beowulf himself represents the good and must fight many evil
monsters such as Grendel and a dragon in order to save his own people in an attempt to create
peace. Beowulf makes the fight between good and evil a necessary part of his life. This can be
further identified when he says I have wrestled the hilt from the enemies hand, avenged the evil
done to the Danes; it is what was due. (lines 1668 1670 page). He carries great

Baskin (1972) used the market model to investigate the information content of consistency

releasing qualified audit reports on share prices on the date of the release of the report and their
impact on investment decisions and concluded that share prices responded to certain types of
qualifications and therefore the type of qualification influences investors decisions. He also added
that investors react differently to various types of audit qualifications. In another survey, Firth
(1980) used questionnaires, so that he could find out whether qualified and unqualified audit reports
have information content to discover whether bank lending decisions and credit analysts reactions
were affected by qualifications and the type of qualification. He also implied that these results
indicate the audit report should contain more detail in this situation so as to help readers of the

during the negotiation can include the provincial government of Ontario, and the Canadian Parks

which are the DeBeers Company as well as the aboriginal community, as they can help explain the
context of what is happening and why each demand is necessary in the negotiation. Negotiations

As it was stated, DeBeers was attempting to mislead the public by only providing information about
certain water sources that they did not contaminate, but decided to hide information about the ones
that had various chemicals in them that were released. (Bridge, 2016) This is quite concerning as
mercury and methylmercury, which is a relative to mercury are both highly toxic, and can both
pose a danger to not only the animals, fish and vegetation in the area, but humans as well if it
builds up in the waterways. Their reports can be used not only with the Ontario government, but
with the company as well showing that they previously did not follow their agreements, allowing
the community to have a stronger voice during the negotiation process.
It should be noted that the Ontario government requested the company to self monitor itself and
report on the mercury and methylmercury levels near the open pit Victor mine, but the Wildlands
League reports otherwise and this is a concern for the community these events can happen in their
area as well. This also raises concerns with the government failing to provide proper oversight on
the company s operations. If the government sees that DeBeers did not follow their previous
agreement that they signed then this will mean stricter rules and oversight on the company. Plus
there will be harsher fines if they do not follow.

Whitman Against The Civil War
The discussion opened with the question of whether or not Whitman was a supporter of the war, as
it was obvious that he was against the suffering caused by it. There seemed to be a definitive
consensus that Whitman was against the war. The Civil War, in particular, pitted brother against
brother, which was exemplified in Whitman s prose, Two Brothers, One South, One North. Cory
remarked that Whitman glorified the wounded to prove that there was no true winner in war. This
brought about the discussion of Stephen s second question of whether Whitman s prose and poetry
differed in focus and in realism. For many of the class, it was felt that there was a vast contrast
between his poetry and his prose. Carrie argued that Whitman s poetry feels romanticized

Review Of The Ministry Of Music On The Black Church
Introduction and Thesis
Music is an inseparable element of Black life and therefore Black worship. The Black Church
understands worship to be a communal act of adoration towards God that may involve praise or
petition via song, dance, music (use of instruments), recitation, meditation, chanting, and or prayer
(Mason, 2016). According to James Cone, Black music is unity music because it unites...the hope
and despair;...and it moves the people towards the direction of total liberation; and confronts the
individual with the truth of black existence and affirms that black being is possible only in the
communal context (p. 5). It is with this understanding that black people worship through music and
without this understanding worship and music are diluted. J. Wendell Mapson articulated this idea
in his book, The Ministry of Music in the Black Church, when he noted that purpose of worship is
forfeited when singing music that has no relationship to everyday life, and the worshipper
becomes disconnected from the way music and worship have historically served blacks (41). In
this same vain, James Cone asserted that Black music is theological because it reveals how God
moves people towards unity and self determination.
Such unity and self determination was evidenced in 1801, when Richard Allen, founder of the
African Methodist Episcopal Church published a hymnal by and for African Americans (Costen,
81). Hymns have served black people in their everyday lives and had and have

Metabolic Acidosis Research Paper
Metabolic acidosis happens when the blood becomes too acidic. It can happen in infants, children,
and adults for many different reasons. Metabolic acidosis may range from mild to severe, or even
life threatening.
CAUSES
Metabolic acidosis happens as a result of one of the following:
The body produces too much acid.
You consume a toxic substance that increases the acid content in the blood.
The body loses an important element, such as bicarbonate, which helps to balance acid.
The kidneys do not remove enough acid from the body.
There are many causes. Metabolic acidosis can be brought on by chronic or life threatening
conditions, such as:
Diabetes.
Kidney disease or failure.
Liver failure.
Seizures.
Diarrhea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Best Days Of My Life
Wednesday, December 16th, or as I like to call it, one of the best days of my life. Is it clichГ© to
call my first concert experience one of the best days of my life? Probably. But it was just such a
surreal experience. I went to go see The 1975 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. My best
friend knew that I had never been to a concert before, so on my Birthday she gave me tickets to
go see The 1975 as a gift. I had been looking forward to the concert for months, and when the day
finally came, I felt both nervous and excited to go see one of my favorite bands. The 1975 is an
alternative rock/indie rock/pop music band who I had heard of due to another band that decided to
cover one of their songs. The first songI heard was called Medicine. It was two in the morning and
I was driving to Arizona. Such a beautiful song, something about it was almost therapeutic for
me. I fell in love with it instantly. After my trip to Arizona, I finally had time to do my research. I
listened to The 1975 s entire discography and they immediately became one of my favorite bands.
I was glad that The 1975 would be my first concert experience ever.
It was a cold Wednesday morning, I woke up at around six and waited for my friends to pick me up
so we could go eat breakfast at IHOP before we made our way to Los Angeles. Upon arrival we
decided to make a few stops before heading to the venue. We decided to do some shopping at The
Grove. Being the huge book nerd that I am, I of course had to

The Choice of Medea
The Choice of Media Medea and her lack of control The story of Medea is a story of heartache,
loss and death. A reader may portray Medea as a strong woman and then again portrayed as a
crazy murderer. The question that arises often in conversation of this play is the question of
Medea s choice and lack of control. The play of Medea is delivered with obsessions and the love
for Jason then turning to death, revenge and dishonor. The answer is very clear that Medea is a
woman in total control of the actions done, and is willing to kill family and children for
vengeance and satisfaction of a pay back. Medea s root of anger and choices come from the love
inside for Jason who causes the ultimate betrayal. Medea was truly in love with... Show more

The Nurse s words and the Chorus s words were brushed aside as Medea s actions continued.
Medea was given a choice just as any young women or man is given a choice at the time of
heartache, betrayal or humility. The choice for anyone is to choose to show strength in walking
away or fold to the feelings of vengeance and revenge. Medea made a clear minded choice to
follow the hurt and the want of revenge to justify what happened to the life she once knew.
Medea made the choice to poison the new wife and the children. The actions were thought of
and acted upon and only a woman strong, clear minded and out for pure revenge could ever do
these things. Medea spoke clearly of each detail as the dirty dead was set up No let me have my
way. They say the Gods themselves are moved by gifts, and gold does more with men than
words. ( Euripides 710) Jason falls for this begging and convincing act of gifts by Medea. Medea
pouting and reeling Jason in with kind words yet deceiving results is the ultimate mind game.
Jason could be considered a fool to fall for the gift of children, clothes and a blessing from the
heart that Medea offers. Jason doesn t believe that Medea could do the unthinkable. Medea s words
soft and convincing thought out and bold. Jason wanting nothing more than to live a life filled with
royalty, love and the women and children blessed after this day. Medea wanting nothing more

Capitalism And Imperialism
Imperialism is the policy of extending power and dominion of an empire. It is most notably
accomplished through the acquisition of territory or gaining control of foreign political or
economic systems. Capitalism, by nature, is imperialistic. While this system is not driven by
nationalism, it does facilitate competitive rivalry, and it s often distinguished by its usage of
economic competition. Wage workers are hired by competing businesses in an industry, and these
businesses strive to outperform each other. The most effective businesses sustain their dominance
in the market by equipping themselves with the latest tools and tactics to gain increasing amounts
of capital. From there, they continue to efficiently expand their territory to maximize profit and
increase market power. Smaller businesses that do not efficiently grow their profit margin and
increase their market share tend to fail in the shadows of these more powerful businesses.
The natural tendency of capitalism is to spread. Corporations are in constant pursuit to keep gaining
access to new or untouched markets that will grant them the best prices for their products and
services. They often do this by targeting new customer demographics, selling more products, and
dispersing their products or services into new territories. As these corporations infiltrate new
markets, maintaining market power would require that executives also continue to constantly
innovate the framework of their businesses refining and

and go over the plan with the employee. This may cost more money for the company, but the
company may also benefit from offering these plans and retain employees. While having a long

save money and use it within the current year for expenses that may occur. Flexible spending
accounts have pros and cons that a company should be aware of and note before they decide if it
is a benefit they can offer. Employees may like this type of benefit as it will lower the amount of

Offering tuition assistance can also be a positive to a company as they can use the costs as a

There are limits as to how much a company can write off as a business expense in this case.
While it is great allowing employees to flourish and grow in knowledge, it can also have a
negative effect on the employees and the business. Unless employees are given time to take
classes during work, they will be taking classes outside of work, which can lead to them being
stressed and overwhelmed. Employees will be putting in long hours in school and not be
spending as much time with their family or doing non work related activities. Employees may
also come to work tired, not motivated, and become less productive because of this. There is
also the chance that employees can take classes and then leave the company. Not only does the
employee get to keep all of their knowledge, but that will also require the company to hire on a
new employee for the position and have the employee trained which will cost money. Employers
may be concerned about losing their employees with great knowledge and skills, just as they could

Face Everything And Rise
Face Everything And Rise Strength (n.) ~ the quality or state of being strong. Life pushes us to
be our best through the many tests and trials. These trials teach us lessons, along with making us
stronger. Each and everyone s tests are different. Such as peer pressure, problems with self
image or even learning how to carry on after a loved one has passed. During the Autumn of
seventh grade my Grandfather passed away and even though I m sad about this it s made me
stronger. It was a hard test, but without the lessons I learned I wouldn t be who I am today. In the
end the term oil we face is worthwhile. It s not the breaths you take that matter, but the moments
that take your breath away. To me and countless others this is an important motto for life. When
my Papa Jim passed away, I was taught to live by these words. When our journey is over the
shiny new sports car, big houses or even your social rank won t matter. The memories you made
on your adventure of life will be the only thing you and anyone else cares about. Papa Jim was
the grandparent I took to the most on my Dad s side. He the one who loved me like his own. My
Grandmother took some time getting used to me given that I wasn t her biological child and she
didn t want to get attached for the fear of losing me. Whereas, the first time I met Papa Jim he
gave me a big hug and took me on his tractor to see his bunnies. No matter what I was going to be

The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal Essay
The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal
Nuclear waste disposal is a political problem, not a technical problem.1
Dr. Edward Teller
Highly radioactive waste disposal has become one of the most controversial aspects of nuclear
technology. As the amount of spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear reactors and high level
radioactive waste from defense related processing plants has continued to mount, the issue has
become increasingly contentious and politicized.2 The politicization of this issue is especially
evident in the site selection process of a permanent national repository for the disposal of highly
radioactive waste.
Paradoxically, as the need for action has become more acute, the conflict generated by ... Show

The following year, after environmental impact assessments were conducted by DOE, the list was
narrowed to five potential locations (Richton Dome, Mississippi; Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf
Smith County, Texas; Davis Canyon, Utah; and, Hanford, Washington).5 Finally, in 1986, DOE
narrowed the field to three sites: Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf Smith County, Texas; and Hanford,
Washington. The fact that each of these locations had a prior involvement with nuclear technology
probably contributed to their selection since DOE likely concluded that any opposition to
establishing a radioactive waste repository would be muted.6 The site selection process in the East
was even more difficult. As Michael Kraft, Professor of Environmental Studies, points out:
Controversies similar to those in the West emerged during the second siting process in the East.
In January 1986, DOE announced that 12 locations in seven states in the upper Midwest and East
had been selected from its original list of 235 potential sites in seventeen states. Once again DOE
defended its choices in terms of the official siting guidelines....That process led to a proposal to

and North Carolina....Intense public opposition and fears of political repercussions in an election

Post Retirement Issues Experienced By Athletes Essay
The previous sections highlighted post retirement issues experienced by athletes, (i.e., hardships,
future concerns, identity issues, career planning decisions, etc.). To summarize, the literature has
consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner Lavallee, 2008;
McGannon Mauws, 2000; Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may
experience more transition related difficulties than those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, Grove,
1997; Heird Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old (Hadavi,
2011), most retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have
difficulty obtaining a job or feeling competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot,
Deligniers, 2003). Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that athletes
revealed feelings of incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months.
Therefore, a review evaluating successful careerplanning models in general is necessary, as there
are few post retirement career planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005; Morris
Cherry, 2007; Stambulova, 2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include
Holland s theory of vocational personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling,
and social cognitive career theory.

Hamlet s Stagnant Revenge
A bloody deed almost as bad, good mother/ As kill a king and marry with his brother , a statement
so bold you would assume it was from a bold man, but the reality couldn t be further from that
assumption. In the play Hamlet, the former king s son Hamlet attempts to take revenge upon the
new king, Claudius. As the readers, though we see how Hamlet is indirect in his action and delays
his revenge multiple times. Hamlet is a man of inaction. Hamlet waits to kill his Uncle, Claudius,
because he is uncertain of the truth, he is afraid of the afterlife, and he is working to exact the
perfect revenge.
Hamlet always wants more information before he takes revenge. Hints of his true motivation first
appear when the ghost appears and Hamlet says, Haste me to know t, that I, with wings as swift/ As
meditation or the thoughts of love,/ May sweep to my revenge. (I.v.29 31). Hearing of the murder,
his first reaction is to gather more information about the identity of the murderer. After his meeting
with the ghost, he starts to question the authenticity of the ghosts information. Thus begins his
quest to confirm the truth by acting as if he is insane. His activity leads to the invitation of an
acting troupe to improve. Hamlet takes advantage of their presence, convincing them to reenact a
play similar to his father s murder. During the play, Hamlet notes how the King and Queen

concern whether the current distribution strategy used by Palladium would be adequate to
achieve the goal. Although Palladium s growth has been steady over the past 10 years the market
share was only at 2.6%. The firm s senior executives were firmly believed they justified this lofty
sales goal because they had to attain a larger sales volume to preserve its buying position with
suppliers. Palladium, during its growth, has exceeded the industry growth. There are three new

Several executives did not want to change either the distribution strategy or the dealers, but rather
look internally on how to do a better job with the current distribution channel.
Recommendations: It would seem very favorable for Palladium to implement alternative 2 of
developing the franchise program. The addition of 27 exclusive dealers would definitely
increase sales and out of the 3 alternatives, it provides the least increase in cost and/or the largest
increase in sales. So in order for Hawly to meet his goal of $12.5 million With the exclusive dealers
in place they can improve the brand image also. By adding the 20% budget they can increase the

Palladium will be on the forefront in certain markets and aggressively start to build up sales to

A social mindset prevails in various parts of Croatian society. It is important to keep in mind that
Croatia has recently recovered from the Homeland war just twenty two short years ago. The
country has made tremendous strides towards reconstruction and recovery within the last decade.
Some major setbacks the country deals with today are that the majority of Croatian income comes
from government funding, social insurance, or public monopolies. Not from the revenues of truly
competitive companies. Therefore, any reforms that are introduced that are in opposition to or
address corruption, public overspending, or judicial inefficacy usually faces strong opposition
from privileged majority on top. On a more optimistic note Croatia has a growing force of
entrepreneurs who have innovative and vibrant ideas which are changing the way business in

The Role Of Family And Caretakers Relationships
Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that often leads to a disruptive lifestyle. It is a subgroup of
bipolar I which is manic and depressive episodes and bipolar II which is hypomanic and
depressive episodes. However, very little research has been done in terms of how this disorder
impacts family members and caretakers. The rationale behind this topic is to examine some of the
research done involving strengths and struggles of familyand caretakers relationships. The articles
that will be discussed include: Family Functioning in the Context of Parental Bipolar Disorder:
Association with Offspring Age, Sex, and Psychopathology, Relatives Emotional Involvement
Moderates the Effects of Family Therapy for Bipolar, and In sickness and in health: The
experiences of friends and relatives caring for people with manic depression.
While reading these articles I noticed many of them had similar themes. One of the common themes
throughout these articles is the need to continuously do more research and provide more resources
for the caretakers. Another recurring topic in the articles was the importance family relationships
have on the individual with bipolar disorder and their outcomes with treatment, along with how
these interactions affect the other members of the family. A strength that was present in each article
was the depth of detail presented in each study; this description will make it easier to replicate the
studies. These commonalities throughout the articles may be

Abstract Parallel databases are the high performance databases in RDBMS world that can used for
setting up data intensive enterprise data warehouse but they lack scalability whereas, MapReduce
paradigm highly supports scalability, nevertheless cannot perform as good as parallel databases.
Deriving an architectural hybrid model of best of both worlds that can support high performance

Biblical Eras Of Creation, The Patriarchs, And The Ketuvim
Referred to as Tanak by Jews, the Hebrew Bible contains twenty four books characterized by
three categories: The Torah, the Nevi im, and the Ketuvim, which outline the history and beliefs
of the Jewish faith. The Torah, commonly known as the Law of Moses, contains the books of
Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These five narrative books cover the
Biblical eras of creation, the patriarchs, and the exodus. In Genesis 1, God created everything
from nothing at His will in six days and proclaimed all of it good. Humankind was created, Adam
and Eve, in God s image, and they lived in the pure garden of Eden. Sin is introduced to the
world when a serpent convinces Eve, who subsequently convinces Adam, to eat from the the tree
of good and evil, which God strictly forbade. God judged their sin, bans them from Eden, they
went out in the world, and birthed sons Cain and Abel. After Cain killed Abel out of jealousy,
God again judged sin by cursing Cain, but exemplified forgiveness in Genesis 6 through his
promise to curse whoever tried to hurt him. Generations later, descendant of Adam, Noah, is
introduced, as well as his wife Naamah and their sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. In Genesis 6,
God decided to start over, but saved Noah, his family, and animals, by telling Noah to build an ark

Comparing Plant Organs And Their Nutrients
Comparing Plant Organs and their Nutrients
Abstract: In this experiment, we wanted to determine the starch and glucose content of different
plant parts including: fruits, stems, leaves, and roots. To do this, we tested a food in each of these
categories with Lugol s and Benedict s solutions after being heated in a hot water bath. The color of
each solution would then be compared to the Lugol s and benedict s indicators to determine how
much starch and glucose is in each. We believed that fruits would have the most starch and glucose
out of the plant parts because of its role in plant reproduction (seed dispersal). Through the
experiment, we discovered that the fruit does have the most glucose, but the roots have the most
starch. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, there is glucose that is considered a simple sugar or a monosaccharide due to its
structure (Georgia State University). Most foods made of glucose molecules are used as
sources of energy for animals as ATP (Georgia State University). Both these sugars are in our
diets, yet they are quiet different in chemical structure and physical form. This is why a substance
that contains starch, does not always contains glucose (Shorter KR). To test for these two
carbohydrates, two different tests were developed: Lugol s and Benedict s. Lugol s indicates
whether or not a substance contains starch, and if so, how much (Shorter KR). This is determined
based on a color scale (5 different shades), from amber to a bluish black (Shorter KR). The farther
down the scale, the more starch the substance contains. Likewise, the Benedict s solution indicates
the amount of starch as the 8 color shades (light blue to dark green) progress (Shorter KR).
Hypothesis:
вћўIf Lugol s solution is used to test different types of plant parts, then there will be more starch in
the fruits (reproductive parts) than stems, because fruits are where seed dispersal is located which
is a process that requires sugar.
вћўIf Benedict s solution was added to solutions of water and plant parts, then there would be more
glucose found in the fruits rather than the stems because of the function of the fruit during seed
dispersal requires sugar which is glucose makes up.

I wanted to let you know that I really do love Goucher. It s a great school with a very comfortable
and progressive community; I could really see myself thriving there. However, as much as I love
Goucher, I am somewhat concerned by the school s lacking a classics or Latin program. Because of
this concern, I thoughtit might be beneficial to describe to you both some of the merits of having a
classics program and how Latin has helped me in hopes of persuading you to consider making such
a program in the future.
To begin with, learning Latin makes one aware of the lingering effects of classical society. For
example, just driving down the street you see evidence of Roman culture; such is exemplified
when one considers how many buildings have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I have never regretted taking Latin Partially this is because I feel some kind of
personal victory from having spent seven years as a Latin student. Partially, this is because my
Latin class has provided me with a community unlike any I have ever known. Together, we have
struggled to learn the declensions. Together, we have spent afternoons on the corner of Walnut
Grove and Perkins as we screamed out voices hoarse with various Latin chants to honor Tennessee
s Latin Appreciate Week. We have grouped together to search for Latin moments in every day life.
We have become lifelong friends bonded through years of learning a common language and culture.
However, my Latin class is not the only community I have felt united with by my studies. I have
found that Latin has also united me with past and future generations of peoples who have spoken
Latin or studied Latin.
With my study of Latin, I have stepped onto a bridge that joins a number of peoples of both the
past and the future; that is truly something to be proud of. I want to bring this pride to Goucher.
For this reason and for the reasons of offering culture, awareness of modern language, and
practicality to your students I very seriously hope that you consider adding Latin to your

America s Obsession With Weight Loss and Body Image
America s Obsession with Weight Loss and Body Image
Introduction
Concern with weight and body image is a widespread preoccupation for many Americans. In a
study of college students 74.4 percent of normal weight woman and 46 percent of normal weight
men said they thought about their weight or appearance all the time or frequently ( Body Image,
2012). Focus on appearance is at an all time high in American culture increasing the potential for
negative body image. Poor body image increases the risk for extreme weight/body control
behaviors. Researchers have found that increased preoccupation with appearance and body
dissatisfaction put people at greater risk for engaging in dangerous practices to control weight and
size. Extreme dieting, exercise compulsion, laxative abuse, vomiting, smoking and use of anabolic
steroids have all been associated with negative body image. ( Body Image, 2012).
Body Image
Body image encompasses how we perceive our bodies, how we feel about our physical
experience as well as how we think and talk about our bodies, our sense of how other people
view our bodies, our sense of our bodies in physical space, and our level of connectedness to our
bodies. Over the past three decades, while America has gotten heavier, the ideal woman presented
in the media has become thinner. Teenagers are the heaviest users of mass media, and American
women are taught at a young age to take desperate measures in the form of extreme dieting to
control their

How Did Mary Get Stoned
This movie added a little bit of the Nativity Story to my understanding. The part in the movie that
stood out to me was that Mary and Joseph s marriage was arranged. I learned that when Mary
became pregnant Joseph could have pressed charges against her and if he did then she would be
stoned. I learned that if he didn t press charges against her and declared to everyone that the child
was his then Mary would not be stoned but both Joseph and Mary would be considered a disgrace
and would be outcasts from their people. I learned that Joseph didn t press charges or declare
that Mary s child was his but instead he said nothing. I was really impressed of Joseph decision to
not let Mary get stoned but also not make himself a disgrace by declaring

Throughout the years, many religions were founded, radical groups, reforms happened, people s
actions went down in history, and there were many changes to the way that our nation is ran,
including foreign policy, leaders, and laws. Nationalism was one of the biggest influences on the
twentieth century because of the roles that it played in making the United States the way that it is

throughout those 100 years, and the way that people were treated. Race has been an issue
throughout our nation s history that we cannot deny and is still an issue in today s society. The
book Superfluous Men is a book filled with many critiques of how the American society was ran
and the events that were happening during that time. They made many points throughout this book
that could be correctly stated about our history. Twentieth century America was a time that can be
said to be one of the most influential centuries in our country s past. Nationalism is a part of our
country s past. We have seen many aspects of our history changed because the act of nationalism.

The emergence of First Financial Crisis in 1720 and the stock market crash of 1929 were both the results of speculation, but also market inflex ibilities. The crash of 1929 in US was closely tied to post war consequences and the over op timism of Golden 20 .While both crises were separated in time by the two centuries, similarities between them outgrow the differences. Firstly, it s crucial to set both events in time and compare the circum stances in which they occurred. The first quarter of 18th century was a revolutionary period for British financial market. • 4. Octavian, the Greatest Roman Leader Essay Octavian enabled the long, nonviolent time of the Pax Romana, (Latin for Roman peace) by changing Rome from a frail, collapsing republican government to a powerful empire. He is known as the first, and one of the greatest, Roman Emperors ever. Octavian was born on September 23, 63 BC, and died in 14 AD. Born with the name Gaius Octavius Thurinus, he was adopted posthumously by his great uncle Gaius Julius Caesarvia his will, and then was named Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus. This happened in 44 BC when his great uncle, Julius Caesar, was assassinated by a group of conspirators. Additionally, he received the name Augustusa term meaning the revered one from the Roman Senate in 27 BC. Because of the various names he had, it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After this, Octavian joined Caesar in the Spanish expedition in 46 BC despite of his delicate health. He earned the admiration of Caesar during this daring journey. Then Octavian was sent by Caesar to Apollonia, Greece to finish his education. Octavian was only eighteen years old and living in Apollonia, when he heard the news of Caesar s assassination. He found out that he was Caesar s adopted heir, and faced an array of advice from family, friends, and army officers. In 44 BC he took the name Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus, after the murder of Julius Caesar. Octavian s family begged him to stay where he was and renounce his inheritance because they thought the assassins of Caesar were very strong. Octavian did not take his families advice, and in a tremendously daring act he announced that he was going to Rome to claim what was his and avenge Caesar s death. Instead he went directly to Brundisium and gathered the large amount of troops located there. To make sure that people knew who he was, he called himself Caesar. This identified him fully with his adoptive father, and gave him legitimacy. He switched from the unknown Octavian to Caesar, or son of Caesar. Because of this, many of the soldiers from Brundisium joined his cause, and the army grew in size and skill. • 5. Clara Wieck Schumann and the Struggle for Equality in... Clara Wieck Schumann and the Struggle for Equality in Nineteenth Century Germany The place of women before and during the nineteenth century is well summarized by a Bavarian statute book, which states that by marriage, the wife comes under the authority of the husband and the law allows him to chastise her moderately (Gay 177). These ideas are similarly echoed in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and the writings of Jean Jacques Rousseau. The former did not afford women any of the rights provided for men, such as liberty, property, resistance to oppression, voting, free speech, etc.; the latter reasoned that because women were the weaker sex, they should not (and moreover could not) be a part of society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also during this period, nationalism was on the rise and encompassed nearly all aspects of universities, which increasingly allowed women access to an education, opening the door for their liberation (Gay 48). Very often during this period, women experienced great monotony in their lives and became jaded with the tasks they performed day after day. While some women put up with this hackneyed life, others struggled to free themselves from it. Many not only fought for rights but against injustices their sex had sustained in previous centuries (Gay 172). The end of the nineteenth century saw an increased activism by women, who argued against their dominated position and for fundamental changes in laws (Gay 177). While there did exist some men who supported women and believed their deprivation of many rights was unjust, many more were disheartened with the advancing woman. Because men had come to relax in their domineering role, they became uncomfortable, if not fearful, when women showed their independence. This led to a bourgeois culture which can be summed up in a single word: uncertainty (Gay 48, 171). Changes were occurring at a rapid pace, and many older, more conservative citizens saw this as a time of frenzied disregard for the concrete, sustained values and morals with which they had been raised. The nineteenth century was a time when all facets of life religious, political, sexual were being questioned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Dealing with Annular Pressure Build Up Annular pressure build up (APB) is an important problem in the areas of well design. Although different suggestions have been proposed to mitigate APB, including vacuum insulated tubing, silicate foam wellbore insulation techniques, and insulating completion (packer) fluids, consistent, robust APB mitigation solutions that include the optimized annular fluid rheology of the trapped drilling fluids in the outer annuli are needed to better handle this problem. The convective and conductive heat transfer through the trapped drilling fluid between the casing strings is a driving force for increasing the annular pressure. This study explains how to design and optimize the rheological and thermal properties of drilling fluid to provide a sustainable and reliable insulating performance. The objectives of this study are 1) to develop a better insight of APB in the annulus of casing and 2) to experimentally measure and 3) analytically model the effect of different parameters, such as rheological and thermal properties, on the insulating performance of drilling fluid trapped in annular spaces. By combining the theory of sedimentation and the model proposed for free convective heat transfer of Yield Power Law fluids across parallel plates, a stepwise guideline was proposed to estimate the Nusselt number and thermal conductivity coefficient profile of trapped drilling fluid. A computer code to perform this procedure has been developed. Additionally, a unique experimental apparatus was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Barbie dolls show girls that they have to be put together, wear heels, and have the perfect life with the perfect car and the perfect boyfriend. The old Barbie doll was very unhealthy in the way she looked, and this showed girls a bad example on what their bodies needed to look like. New Barbies are made to show what a healthy person should look like. They have new body types like curvy, short, and tall to show that not everyone looks the same. Old Barbies brought young girls confidence down because of their unhealthy body type, while new Barbies, with more body types, skin tones, and eye colors, boost girls confidence. Barbies are a huge part of American girls culture, and their unhealthy body was making young girls less confident. A study showed that after girls looked at Barbies their self esteem went down, while girls who saw a more realistic doll felt no change in their self esteem (APA Staff). This is important because Barbies are a large part of American culture, so if playing/looking at Barbies makes girls self esteem go down, that means many girls in America must have some type of body confidence issue. • 15. The Fascination Of Murder, By Scott Bonn Essay For centuries, murder cases have captivated the lives of individuals. From news station broadcastings to the media creating films and documentaries, homicide cases have gained the interest and popularity of many individuals. This begs the question as to what lies in the fascination of murder? The basis of this can be found in the psychological state of individuals including, the experience of thrill, curiosity, the need for answers, and fear. When an individual becomes fascinated with murder, they may be drawn in by a certain rush or thrilling experience. This experience is similar to that of a whodunit , a novel, play, or movie in which the murderer is not revealed until the very end (Merriam Webster, n.d.). In both circumstances, individuals are captivated by tension and uncertainty. Along with this, Scott Bonn, a criminology professor at Drew University, states that The euphoric effect of true crime on human emotions is similar to that of roller coasters...and allows individuals to experience fear and horror in a controlled environment (Bonn, 2016). A prime example of this includes the infamous murders committed by Jack the Ripper. In 1888, five women were brutally murdered by a man who went by the name of Jack the Ripper . During the time of these killings, serial murder became a new phenomenon that was highly publicized (Top 10 Unsolved Crimes, n.d.). Evil In The Epic Of Beowulf Beowulf is thought to be one of the first major English epics estimated to be written between (insert time period) and is still to this day considered one of the greatest epics of all time. What typically would characterize a proper epic is the use of a main character known as the Epic Hero with a supernatural enemy that compliments the character s traits. An epic also recounts travels, quests and heroic battles; as well highlights the ideas of good vs. eviland moral dilemmas. It is through the portrayal of the great heroBeowulfand his battles with foes to cater to the greater good that this epic is brought to life and immortalized. It is fitting to think that Beowulf is possibly the first major epic because in many ways, it proves to be very simple in the idea of what an epic truly is about. In any proper epic, the idea of good vs. evil is always prevelant. There is the idea that a protagonist must go against an antagonist in effort to defend the greater good. Beowulf surrounds the conflict between a brave and mighty warrior and demons from hell. Beowulf himself represents the good and must fight many evil monsters such as Grendel and a dragon in order to save his own people in an attempt to create peace. Beowulf makes the fight between good and evil a necessary part of his life. • 20. Review Of The Ministry Of Music On The Black Church Introduction and Thesis Music is an inseparable element of Black life and therefore Black worship. The Black Church understands worship to be a communal act of adoration towards God that may involve praise or petition via song, dance, music (use of instruments), recitation, meditation, chanting, and or prayer (Mason, 2016). According to James Cone, Black music is unity music because it unites...the hope and despair;...and it moves the people towards the direction of total liberation; and confronts the individual with the truth of black existence and affirms that black being is possible only in the communal context (p. 5). It is with this understanding that black people worship through music and without this understanding worship and music are diluted. J. Wendell Mapson articulated this idea in his book, The Ministry of Music in the Black Church, when he noted that purpose of worship is forfeited when singing music that has no relationship to everyday life, and the worshipper becomes disconnected from the way music and worship have historically served blacks (41). In this same vain, James Cone asserted that Black music is theological because it reveals how God moves people towards unity and self determination. Such unity and self determination was evidenced in 1801, when Richard Allen, founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church published a hymnal by and for African Americans (Costen, 81). Hymns have served black people in their everyday lives and had and have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Capitalism And Imperialism Imperialism is the policy of extending power and dominion of an empire. It is most notably accomplished through the acquisition of territory or gaining control of foreign political or economic systems. Capitalism, by nature, is imperialistic. While this system is not driven by nationalism, it does facilitate competitive rivalry, and it s often distinguished by its usage of economic competition. Wage workers are hired by competing businesses in an industry, and these businesses strive to outperform each other. The most effective businesses sustain their dominance in the market by equipping themselves with the latest tools and tactics to gain increasing amounts of capital. From there, they continue to efficiently expand their territory to maximize profit and increase market power. Smaller businesses that do not efficiently grow their profit margin and increase their market share tend to fail in the shadows of these more powerful businesses. The natural tendency of capitalism is to spread. Corporations are in constant pursuit to keep gaining access to new or untouched markets that will grant them the best prices for their products and services. They often do this by targeting new customer demographics, selling more products, and dispersing their products or services into new territories. As these corporations infiltrate new markets, maintaining market power would require that executives also continue to constantly innovate the framework of their businesses refining and ... These trials teach us lessons, along with making us stronger. Each and everyone s tests are different. Such as peer pressure, problems with self image or even learning how to carry on after a loved one has passed. During the Autumn of seventh grade my Grandfather passed away and even though I m sad about this it s made me stronger. It was a hard test, but without the lessons I learned I wouldn t be who I am today. In the end the term oil we face is worthwhile. It s not the breaths you take that matter, but the moments that take your breath away. To me and countless others this is an important motto for life. When my Papa Jim passed away, I was taught to live by these words. When our journey is over the shiny new sports car, big houses or even your social rank won t matter. The memories you made on your adventure of life will be the only thing you and anyone else cares about. Papa Jim was the grandparent I took to the most on my Dad s side. The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal Essay The Politics of Highly Radioactive Waste Disposal Nuclear waste disposal is a political problem, not a technical problem.1 Dr. Edward Teller Highly radioactive waste disposal has become one of the most controversial aspects of nuclear technology. As the amount of spent nuclear fuel from commercial nuclear reactors and high level radioactive waste from defense related processing plants has continued to mount, the issue has become increasingly contentious and politicized.2 The politicization of this issue is especially evident in the site selection process of a permanent national repository for the disposal of highly radioactive waste. The following year, after environmental impact assessments were conducted by DOE, the list was narrowed to five potential locations (Richton Dome, Mississippi; Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf Smith County, Texas; Davis Canyon, Utah; and, Hanford, Washington).5 Finally, in 1986, DOE narrowed the field to three sites: Yucca Mountain, Nevada; Deaf Smith County, Texas; and Hanford, Washington. The fact that each of these locations had a prior involvement with nuclear technology probably contributed to their selection since DOE likely concluded that any opposition to establishing a radioactive waste repository would be muted.6 The site selection process in the East was even more difficult. As Michael Kraft, Professor of Environmental Studies, points out: Controversies similar to those in the West emerged during the second siting process in the East. In January 1986, DOE announced that 12 locations in seven states in the upper Midwest and East had been selected from its original list of 235 potential sites in seventeen states. Once again DOE defended its choices in terms of the official siting guidelines....That process led to a proposal to study further the final sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maine, New Hampshire, Virginia, Georgia, and North Carolina....Intense public opposition and fears of political repercussions in an election year led the Reagan White House in late May 1986 to ... • 30. Post Retirement Issues Experienced By Athletes Essay The previous sections highlighted post retirement issues experienced by athletes, (i.e., hardships, future concerns, identity issues, career planning decisions, etc.). To summarize, the literature has consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner Lavallee, 2008; McGannon Mauws, 2000; Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may experience more transition related difficulties than those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, Grove, 1997; Heird Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old (Hadavi, 2011), most retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have difficulty obtaining a job or feeling competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot, Deligniers, 2003). Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that athletes revealed feelings of incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months. Therefore, a review evaluating successful careerplanning models in general is necessary, as there are few post retirement career planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005; Morris Cherry, 2007; Stambulova, 2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include Holland s theory of vocational personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling, and social cognitive career theory. Comparing Plant Organs And Their Nutrients Comparing Plant Organs and their Nutrients Abstract: In this experiment, we wanted to determine the starch and glucose content of different plant parts including: fruits, stems, leaves, and roots. To do this, we tested a food in each of these categories with Lugol s and Benedict s solutions after being heated in a hot water bath. The color of each solution would then be compared to the Lugol s and benedict s indicators to determine how much starch and glucose is in each. We believed that fruits would have the most starch and glucose out of the plant parts because of its role in plant reproduction (seed dispersal). Through the experiment, we discovered that the fruit does have the most glucose, but the roots have the most starch. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, there is glucose that is considered a simple sugar or a monosaccharide due to its structure (Georgia State University). Most foods made of glucose molecules are used as sources of energy for animals as ATP (Georgia State University). Both these sugars are in our diets, yet they are quiet different in chemical structure and physical form. This is why a substance that contains starch, does not always contains glucose (Shorter KR). To test for these two carbohydrates, two different tests were developed: Lugol s and Benedict s. Lugol s indicates whether or not a substance contains starch, and if so, how much (Shorter KR). This is determined based on a color scale (5 different shades), from amber to a bluish black (Shorter KR). The farther down the scale, the more starch the substance contains. Likewise, the Benedict s solution indicates the amount of starch as the 8 color shades (light blue to dark green) progress (Shorter KR). Hypothesis: вћўIf Lugol s solution is used to test different types of plant parts, then there will be more starch in the fruits (reproductive parts) than stems, because fruits are where seed dispersal is located which is a process that requires sugar. вћўIf Benedict s solution was added to solutions of water and plant parts, then there would be more glucose found in the fruits rather than the stems because of the function of the fruit during seed dispersal requires sugar which is glucose makes up. ... In a study of college students 74.4 percent of normal weight woman and 46 percent of normal weight men said they thought about their weight or appearance all the time or frequently ( Body Image, 2012).
