The Symbols Of Swastika
10 things you probably didn t know about SWASTIKA
Before Hitler the Nazi Germany made it popular during the World War II by using this symbol as their
emblem, this symbol related to something entirely different, it had different meanings in various
civilizations, having its traces as back as 10,000 BC, the swastika symbolizes as of positivity
prosperity to most of the civilization. It is one of the most important and widespread symbols in
ancient religion and today s modern world as well.
Here are 10 interesting things that you probably didn t know about Swastika.
1. It s Origin.
Swastika basically comes from a Sanskrit word meaning That which is good or all is good but also is
translated to lucky or auspicious object , more of a very positive symbol. There are evidence that
prove that it dates back to the Neolithic era. Among the earliest cultures utilizing swastika is the
Neolithic Vinča culture of South East Europe which now are Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia and
Herzegovina. More use of the Swastika can be traced back to Ancient India, during the Indus ... Show

The Swastika is one of the oldest and most widespread symbols on planet Earth, having said that it has
many names and meanings varying according to the civilization. The name Swastika is derived from a
Sanskrit word. The Germans call it Hakenkreuz meaning hook cross and the Native Americans call it
Navajo meaning whirling logs. Similarly it s called Wan in China, Manji in Japan, Fylfot in England
and Tetraskelion or Tetragammadion in Greece. In Thailand, the word Sawaddi is normally used as a
greeting which basically means hello , Sawaddi derives from the Sanskrit word swasti and its meaning

Advantages Of Gap Year
I am convinced that one s college education is greatly enhanced by the maturity, experience, and
perspective a student can bring post gap year. (Fred A. Hardon). A gap year is a period, usually, one
academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education. The gap
year as we know it started gaining attraction in the US in the 1960s. During their gap year, students
usually travel and experience other cultures, gain work experience, learn other languages, and
volunteer. Initially, taking a gap year has not always been socially acceptable in the US, however, it
was much more acceptable in many European countries as well as Australia. In more recent years,
however, the percentage of students putting their higher education on hold to pursue learning outside
of the academic field has been increasing steadily. Although the percentage of students who are taking
a gap year is steadily increasing, in comparison to other countries we are very much behind.
According to the Gap Year Association, many students in other countries wait a year or more after
high school before attending college. For instance, more than 50 percent of students In Norway,
Denmark and Turkey take a gap year before going to college, and that is according to the Nordic
Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research, and Education in Oslo, Norway. Gap year better prepares
students for college and adulthood in general. Because the majority of students spend their gap year by

Explain The Realism Of The Gulf War
Abstract
The Gulf War was a brief affair between Kuwait and Iraq in 1990 and 1991 when Iraq invaded
Kuwait, yet many additional state and non state parties involved. Realism is a theory attempting to
explain international relationships, which says that states struggle to hold power and will inevitably be
in conflict with each other because of this. Although realism was a core theory before the Cold War,
many believe that it is no longer applicable post Cold War.
This paper has three parts. First, it will provide a brief explanation of the Gulf War. Second, it will
explain realism including the view of realism s relevance post Cold War. Finally, it will discuss the
realist interpretation of the actions of three large actors involved in the war: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and
the United States. This paper will critically discuss the Gulf War and investigate the dynamics and
motivations of the three main actors involved from a realist perspective. This paper will prove that
although realism is no longer overt, hidden intentions and behaviors line up to agree with a realist
methodology in international relations.
Realism is one theory that has been used to explain international relationships. However, many say
that it is less relevant post Cold War due to changes in politics and interactions between states. The ...

Where there were small moments of collaboration, it was only to position one s self to gain power by
force. Countries have learned, as if through rote memorization, that it is not appropriate to attack other
states in order to get what they want; they have been taught to try (or pretend to try) and work
together. However, it is all too clear that as soon as the state does not get what it desires in the easy
manner, the state acts in a manner explained by realism, which is to take it by sheer force, perhaps

Computer Viruses And Its Effects On A Computer System
A computer virus is a malware program that, when executed copies itself into other data files,
computer programs, or the boot sector of the hard drive with 95% of viruses doing no more than that.
(1)(2). A virus might attach itself to a program such as a word document program. Each time the word
document program runs, the virus runs too and it has the chance to reproduce by attaching to other
programs. (3) Nowadays, it is extremely important to be aware of viruses because they can cause very
dangerous consequences such as identity theft and fraud. When people generally think about computer
viruses, they normally think about an attack on a computer system, however, they may not be aware of
how common computer viruses are. It can be beneficial to know a few of the different types of viruses,
the kind of damage they can cause and methods to protect yourself from them. In this essay, we will
be covering when computer viruses first made an appearance and contrasting this to how they are like
now on social media. Also, we will be covering how they work and what can be done to prevent the
growing risks of computer viruses on social media. Computer viruses were first widely seen in the late
1980s, with earlier viruses being pieces of code embedded in a larger, legitimate program such as a
spreadsheet program or a game. When the user downloads and runs this program, the virus loads itself
into memory then looks for any other programs on the disk. If it can find one, it modifies the

following your root canal. A crown will be used to replace the section of your tooth that was removed

protect the work that was done on your tooth. Here are three things you need to know about the
process of getting a crown following a root canal You Will Not Get A Crown When You Get Your
Root Canal Most dentist will not start the process for a crown on the same day that they perform your
root canal. If you go to an endodontist, who specializes in root canals, the vast majority will only

You will have to keep your mouth open while this substance dries. This process can take a while, and

U.s. Japanese Government Policies Essay
Introduction The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of a set of the recent
Japanese government policies. Before China overtaking the second largest economy in the world in
2011, Japan has kept the position for several decades. However, after the housing bubbles burst in
1990s, Japan had economically struggled where it can no longer grow at such a substantial rate as
previously. In fact, its economy had shrunk when other neigbouring economies, such as Taiwan and
South Korea, had prospered. So Abe Shinzo was elected as the prime minister of Japan and he has
tried to revive the economy under Abenomics; yet, its impacts on the real economy seem ineffective
until recently. This is why I think it will be interesting to evaluate whether Abenomics was the best
option for Japanese government for reviving the economy from the prolonged recession. Was
Abenomics effective? Research questions are as follows: A) Were the uses of monetary and fiscal
policies effective during recession in Japan? B) Will the structural reforms be effective solution for
Japanese economy? I will examine the effectiveness of Abenomics by looking at the historical
economic data in Japan from 1980 to 2015. In addition, I will introduce some of literatures and
relevant books to support my view on Abenomics. Literature review Japan s lost decade Hayashi and
Prescott (2002) conducted a study on Japan s lost decade to provide a new interpretation based on
neoclassical growth model.

Reflection About Relationships
In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we
considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of
my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not comfortable with
him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing that he had done
something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from
me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break.
Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he
sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him
doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our
disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other.
In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me
know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact
with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with
the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and never minded the
time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another woman, so to him,

Radio Free Dixie
Critical Analysis: Radio Free Dixie The beginning of black militancy in the United States is said to
have begun with the chants Black Power demanded by Stokely Carmichael and Willie Ricks during
the 1966 March against Fear. While Carmichael and Ricks may have coined the phrase black power ,
the roots of the movement had been planted long before by Mr. Robert F. Williams. In Timothy Tyson
s book: Radio Free Dixie: Robert F. Williams and the Roots of Black Power, Tyson details the life of a
remarkable man who had the audacity not only to challenge racial injustice in America but also to
contest the rarely disputed strategies of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Establishment.
Tyson uses Williams life to illustrate his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story telling effect allows for a fairly easy read that provides a great deal of information along the
way. Tyson s book in comparison to similar biographical works based in this time period was laid out
particularly well which again allowed for an easy read. Similar to Dr. King s autobiography, Tyson
goes in depth in to the roots of Williams past deciphering his experiences and relating them to the final
product. For example, detailing Williams life back to the ideologies of his grandparents, his childhood,
experiences with racial injustice and his military career allowed for a deeper understanding of his
transformation in to a militant black leader. Another effective tactic Tyson used to depict Williams life
was to focus his relationships with several other prominent black leaders at the time.; Roy Wilkins, Dr.
King, Thurgood Marshall etc. This allows the reader to find parallels and better understand the
complexities of the black freedom struggle. Tyson highlights the incongruity in strategy and ideology
in his detailing of these relationships yet maintains his central thesis that in the end they were all
fighting for the same thing. The life of Robert Williams underlines many aspects of the ongoing black
freedom struggle: The decisive racial significance of World War II and the impact of the Cold war on
the Freedom Struggle and equally important the centrality of questions of sexuality and gender in
racial politics.

The Pantheon in Rome and the Candi Prambanan in Indonesia
Around the world people have been known to dedicate themselves and their families to a certain type
of religion or God. Practicing religion has been a major part of peoples daily rituals for centuries.
Believing in a higher power than ones own takes full dedication to that certain religion or God(s). In
order to give respect and be able to apply action into these beliefs it has became a tradition around the
world to build a place of worship. These places of worship are referred to differently across the world
depending on location and the religion being practiced. More specifically the Temple is a building that
is devoted for worshiping but also is known to house a multitude of religions depending on its
location. For example, the Romans have been known to house their Gods in Temples usually with a
multitude of columns to incase a statue of a God or Gods. Similarly, the people of Indonesia have been
building decorative Candi (Indonesian word for Temple) to praise and worship their Gods.4 For
instance, the Romans constructed The Pantheon, dedicated to the Gods of Ancient Rome compared to
Candi Prambanan built by the Indonesians in order to worship the concept of Trimurti. 3 The link
between these two cultures can be seen in the way that both Romans and Indonesians worship their
Gods in Temples with the use of separate sacred rooms and what these Temples represent for their
culture, but are able to be separated by their choice of architectural form, style and use of

Overview Of A Experiment On The Alcohol-Water Experiment
Analysis The aim of the extended experimental investigation was to conduct an experiment, and
observe whether it would support or oppose the hypothesis of: As the temperature is increased, then
the volume of the Alcohol Water solution will contract accordingly, due to the input of thermal energy
in the solution which will cause the hydrogen bonds to break and cause the volume of the alcohol
water solution to contract. The experiments involved increasing the temperature of a 10 ml alcohol (5
ml Ethanol, 5 ml Isopropanol) and water (5ml) solution, and measuring the contraction of the
solutions after a period of time. With both experiments, contraction was present with the alcohol
(ethanol, isopropanol) and water solution. The first of the tests conducted was the contraction of the
Isopropanol water solution. The 10 ml solution, consisting of 5ml Isopropanol and 5 ml water had
total contractions between 0.3 and 0.4 ml during the selected testing time period. Initially, the
solutions decreased by a total of 0.4 and 0.6 ml. The general trend with the initial contraction of the
solutions is that the higher the temperature of the solution the more contraction occurs within the
solutions. Another trend with the isopropanol water solutions is that the volume contraction over the
testing period, of 20 minutes, is that all the solutions at the different temperatures lost the same
volume. Discussion and Evaluation With the increased temperature, the isopropanol water solution
contracts faster than the lower temperature due to the fact that molecules move faster with increased
temperature. The hydrogen bonding between isopropanol and water is quite strong between the
solvents and within themselves. As a result of the compounds properties they rearrange to assume a
more efficient hydrogen bond between them, as the angles required for efficient hydrogen bonding are
not present; the bond angles change due to the repulsive force of free electrons within the compound.
The intermolecular forces that cause the molecules of ethanol, isopropanol, and water to rearrange and
contract primarily include dipole dipole interaction and hydrogen bonding. In terms of dipole dipole
interaction, the forces occur when polar molecules are

The unintended consequences that change the world forever are easily observed in hindsight. For WW
II to come together the winners in WW I had to become even more oppressive against the Germans

A simple rule is that energy has to be used, it just does not disappear into the ether.
Think of it as the ultimate re cycle plan in the world. In a way evil and bad emotions have a price that

The emotional energy from this oppression paved the way for Hitler. When the US bombed the

they came across the Khmer Rouge, a communist group who was in need of training. The Vietcong

Value Of America

Many things influence the values a person holds. Culture, religion, government, and people influence
it. Values are important and lasting beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what I
good or bad and desirable or undesirable (What are Values). America has many values, but three most
popular ones are family, freedom, and equality. They are the three most common things a person can
hear about and talk about. America was founded on these three values.
America s value of family comes from the American dream. American s are fiercely loyal to their
family and close friends. American s believe that family takes care of family and they believe parents
are supposed to raise, educate, protect, and guide their children into being proper adults. In the
textbook it says, family members often go out of their way to make personal sacrifices so others will
be happy and successful (Vissing 6). This quote represents what American s believe family members
should do for each other. Family is taught from an early age by parents. It is something that each

Migrant Groups Are More At Risk Of Developing Mental Disorder
Today there are approximately 1 billion migrants in the world out of which 214 million are
international migrants and 740 million are internal migrants. This wide range of population include
workers, undocumented migrants, students, refugees and others, with each having different needs,
health determinants and vulnerability. The health needs of this large population are considerable
(WHO, 2015). Migration is a stressful experience and not all of the migrants respond to the stress
similarly. The response of individual can be influenced by multiple factors like personal, social and
cultural. Some of these factors are aggravated by the loss of social support system, cultural values,
religious norms, changes in own identity and adjustment to a new culture. These stresses related to
migration impact the mental health of migrants and there are strong evidences which suggest that
certain migrant groups are more at risk of developing mental disorder. Moreover, the rate of mental
illness is also increased among migrants (Bhugra, Gupta, Bhui, Craig, Dogra Ingleby, 2011). The loss
of culture and social support cause grief which is a healthy reaction and natural consequence of
migration. However, psychiatric intervention is required if significant distress is caused and symptoms
persist for specific period of time. Cultural bereavement is an experience of migrated person due to the

The Importance Of Non-Fictional Media
While it is clear that nonfictional media can convey meaning because it is based on facts, it is still
unclear as to whether or not fictional media can convey meaning. When the word meaning is used in
this paper it is referring to what is indicated to be, or actually is, expressed or indicated; signification;
import. (dictionary.com) There is an argument as to whether or not fictional media can convey
meaning, specifically cartoons. We can define a cartoon as interpretive pictures utilizing
symbolization and bold exaggeration to present an idea, a message, or a point of view concerning
events, things, or situations. (Smith Leptich, 1963). From this definition, it seems as though fictional
media can convey meaning but this paper will take a deeper look into that. Fictional media should
convey meaning because there are large amounts of children that tune in weekly to watch fictional
media such as cartoons. There are higher stakes when the audience is children, so it is important for
fictional media to convey meaning. Additionally, related to the topic of suspension of disbelief it is
extremely important for fictional media to convey meaning in case people actually believe what they
see is true. This paper will take a closer look at media such as Sausage Party and make the argument
that this media does not convey any meaning. On the other hand, even if fictional media does not
convey any meaning it still has the capability of bringing an entire family together. There is plenty of
fictional media that does, in fact, convey meaning, especially on television. Fictional media has the
capability to get children to feel more involved with tactics such as participatory viewing. These
fictional cartoons on television can actually be extremely helpful in educating children, when used
correctly. Fictional media has the capability of portraying politics in cartoon form, even if it is
propaganda, it can be argued that it is conveying meaning even if it is an over exaggeration of a
current event. Even though media might be fictional does not mean that it cannot convey meaning. In
fact, fictional media can convey meaning and it is crucial that fictional media relay a positive
message.
Fictional media can sometimes

Naomi is a teenage girl that is originally from Missouri and has recently just moved to Jerusalem.
There she faces the hardships of prejudice and segregation as well as boy problems. Maria on the
other hand is a grown woman as well as a nun in training. Her story takes place in Austria as she faces
the tough discipline of the commander as well as the Nazi s that are out to get her and her family.
Although Maria and Naomi may be different ages, live on different continents, and speak different
languages; they went through similar experiences. Both Maria and Naomi left the place they realized

Advantages Of Subsidies
Objectives
Subsidies, by means of creating a difference between consumer prices and producer costs, brings
change in demand/ supply decisions. Subsidies are often aimed at :
1. inducing higher consumption / production.
2. achieving social policy objectives including redistribution of income, population control, etc.
3. offsetting market imperfections including internalisation of externalities;
TRANSFERS AND SUBSIDIES
Transfers which are straight income supplements are different from subsidies. An unconditional
transfer to an individual would add to his income and would be distributed over the entire range of his
expenditures. A subsidy however relates to a particular good, the relative price of which has been
lowered because of the subsidy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the richer farmers who may derive relatively larger benefits because of their capacity to use these
allied inputs.
Subsidies to elementary education form about half of the total subsidies on general education.
However, this is not true for all individual States: the share of elementary education is lowest in the
high income States and the highest in the low income States (Goa, Punjab and West Bengal actually
give higher subsidies to secondary education than primary education).A negative correlation between
the level of per capita income and the share of subsidies to elementary education is thus discernible.
Most subsidies to higher education accrue predominantly to the better off sections of society as they
have an overwhelming advantage in competing out prospective candidates from the poorer sections in
getting admission to courses that are characterised by scarcity of seats.
For subsidies of health, the greater emphasis on curative health care expenditure often reflects a bias
towards the better off people whereas preventive health care expenditure with much larger
externalities would clearly be of greater help to the economically weaker sections of the society.

San Francisco Gold Rush Analysis
By December 23, 1913, when President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act into law, it
stood as a classic example of compromise a decentralized central bank that balanced the competing
intrigues of private banks and populist sentiment. Afore the incipient central bank could commence
operations, the Reserve Bank Operating Committee, comprised of Treasury Secretary William
McAdoo, Secretary of Agriculture David Houston, and Comptroller of the Currency John Skelton
Williams, had the arduous task of building a working institution around the bare bones of the incipient
law. In reaction to the Great Despondence, Congress passed the Banking Act of 1933, better kenned as

The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 called for the establishment of 12 Federal Reserve Banks throughout
the nation in order to engender a more stable and secure financial system. The Gold Rush, the 1906
Earthquake, San Francisco s natural assets, and financial panics that make the Great Recession of the
21st century look homogeneous to a blip all of these contributed to San Francisco s evolution as the
top candidate to accommodate as district headquarters. These banks were vulnerably susceptible to
runs or panics, when individuals lost confidence in the bank and rushed to withdraw their mamba,
inundating the amount of mamba that banks kept on hand and causing chains of bank failures. Isolated
from the established banking system in the East, the West built up its own capital and developed its
own network of banks, centered in San Francisco. San Francisco banks acted as correspondents for
banks located in the economic hinterlands, clearing checks, holding reserves, and negotiating loans
and deposits. President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act in 1913, engendering a semi
centralized banking system, with the activities of each district grouped around its own Federal Reserve
Bank. After the Great Dejection, which was optically discerned as stemming in part from the diffuse
ascendancy within the Federal Reserve System, the Banking Act of 1935 centralized monetary policy
in the Board of Governors and the incipient Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), with its 12
members, consisting of the Board of Governors, the president of the Incipient York Victualed, and a
rotating group of four Reserve Bank presidents. the Federal Reserve s duties fall into four general
areas: conducting the nation s monetary policy by influencing the monetary and credit conditions in
the economy in pursuit of maximum employment, stable

Aircraft Hydraulic Systems
I. LANDING GEAR SAFETY DEVICES
Most airplanes with a retractable landing gear have a gear warning horn that will sound when the
airplane is configured for landing and the landing gear is not down and locked. Normally, the horn is
linked to the throttle or flap position, and/or the airspeed indicator so that when the airplane is below a
certain airspeed, configuration, or power setting with the gear retracted, the warning horn will sound.
Accidental retraction of a landing gear may be prevented by such devices as mechanical downlocks,
safety switches, and ground locks. Mechanical downlocks are built in components of a gear retraction
system and are operated automatically by the gear retraction system. To prevent accidental operation

What happens is that atomic hydrogen found in such substances interacts chemically with the high
tensile steel in the gear, causing the affected areas to transform chemically into a brittle alloy with a
risk of fracturing. The only way to counteract hydrogen embrittlement is to remove the affected
component and bake it in a special oven at 375 F for 23 hours, Lind tells AMT. This allows the
hydrogen atoms to migrate to the surface and then escape.
Maintenance best practices
When damaged aircraft landing gear comes into the shop, it costs more to overhaul than landing gear
that has been maintained properly. Here is what you can do to keep your landing gear costs down. The
first step is lubrication. It may sound simple, but insufficient lubrication during regular usage causes
unnecessary wear and tear in many of the system s components. Lubrication is critical to the
movement of all articulated parts and joints of landing gear, says Lind. Proper lubrication ensures
smooth functioning, less friction and wear, and the appropriate transfer of forces throughout the gear
during use. Lubrication is key to keeping out water, de icing fluid, and other corrosion causing
substances. Make no mistake; corrosion is a real problem for landing gear. Before you lubricate, be
sure to check the aircraft s manual to find out what substances you can and cannot use. In some cases,
using the

A Little Bit Of The Vietnamese Culture
America has been nicknamed the melting pot. Many cultures have come together within the United
States making it possible for American citizens to be able to participate in other cultures without
leaving the United States. As a result of the diversity found in America, I have been able to experience
a little bit of the Vietnamese culture through my friend, Kim. Kim has been a great source of insight
regarding the leadership utilized within the Vietnamese culture.
Kim s family is from Vietnam and moved here in the early 1980 s. Kim and her older siblings were
born in Vietnam. Her younger siblings were born in America. Her family has maintained their
Vietnamese cultural roots and have adopted very little of the American culture. Kim graduated from
high school and college in Minnesota. She works in a leadership position for the state of Minnesota
and frequently travels to Vietnam.
Kim s approach to organizational life is very structured. In her personal and work life she starts her
day out by organizing her list of tasks that she would like to have completed or addressed by the end
of the day. She provides an educated guess as to how long these tasks should take, however, she stays
flexible if one task seems to take a little longer than expected. This is similar to how she organizes the
tasks she would like her team members to be working on. When assigning tasks she does provide a
ball park estimate as to how long the task should take. However with her team she remains flexible

Cons Of Rail Transport
II. Pros and cons of using Rail/risks and benefits of using Rail There are several pros and cons to any
mode of transportation. These pros and cons include cost, efficiency, and responsiveness. The goal is
to find the most appropriate mode of transportation for the type, amount, and destination of cargo.
There will be different needs for every product, origin, destination, and organization. First on the list is
cost. Cost of transportation is one of the major considerations involved in a successful supply chain.
Fortunately, in this department rail is one of the best performers. Rail is known for being a relatively
inexpensive mode of transporting large amounts of overland cargo. In fact, The price structure and

On the other hand, if the organization were able to ship their goods by truck, then they would have the
option of either operating an in house fleet or outsourcing their transportation needs. When comparing
rail to tucking it is important to keep some things in mind. In the early days, the choice of rail vs truck
was easy because by the time that transportation by tuck came about rail transportation had been
around for a long time. In addition, the adoption of motor cars also proved to be more gradual than
that of passenger trains, the result of primitive technologies, high costs, and poor roads (GRANT,
2012, p. 248). This further added to the dominance of rail. In defense of trucking it can hall large
amounts of cargo over long distances. In addition, it can do so with a reasonably high degree of
responsiveness. However, the amount of cargo that rail can hall is considerably larger than that of
trucking. The responsiveness of trucking also comes at a higher cost then rail. Trucking is more suited
to haling more expensive goods that require higher responsiveness. However, in other parts of the
world where the rail infrastructure is more developed or more suitable for transporting cargo this may
not be an option. Perhaps the best use of both rail and truck is in combination through intermodal
transportation. This method makes use of one or more transportation methods in order to achieve to

Suburban Warriors Sparknotes
The Rise of the Right Beginning in the 1960s the conservative middle class, living in the suburbs,
called for an end to the New Deal and the moral decay of their country. Recognizing the liberal
movement s inability to organize, and agree on issues, right wing activists began to mobilize.
Although split between social conservatives and libertarians the right was able to unify on common
ground and change the direction their nation was headed. In Suburban Warriors: The Origins of the
New American Right, McGirr argues that this movement, centered in Orange County, would begin a
new era of a return to traditional values and would be successful as a result of organization, faith, and
a fierce dedication to what these middle class Americans believed to be morally right. The book
follows the rise of the right side chronologically, focusing on major issues and themes along the way.
The American middle class longed for the return of the American dream working comfortably paid
jobs, moving into planned neighborhoods they now had time to focus on other issues such as the
morally corrupt communists and liberals who were dominating the media. A fear of big government
between 1960 and 1963 caused the anti communist movement in Orange County to explode. This was
one of the many ways the right side was unified. Support of religion and promotion of God ... Show

women want a return to traditional values. Suburban Warrior compares to Power to the Poor, by

which were based around human rights and government assistance to the

Character Analysis Of Antony And Cleopatra
Antony and Cleopatra is one of Shakespeare s more glamourous plays that details a forbidden
romance in an incredibly passionate and often aloof way. While reading the play it is difficult to find
empathy in my heart for Antony and Cleopatra s demise. The way I read the play made me feel second
hand embarrassment for the way they handled their relationship and Antony was all the more worse
with his continued infidelity and immature actions. However, watching the play in the intimate setting
of the Round at the Folger Theater allowed the audience to have a more intimate connection with the
actors and better identify with the characters actions. The director took care to light the mood of
certain scenes accurately which effectively warmed and cooled the audience down in a way the
director wanted the audience to feel. The director also made several casting decisions that really
pushed the interpretation of the play he wanted to exhibit. The technical production of the
performance including lighting and sound paired with the casting decisions made by the director help
display the director s angle of one of Shakespeare s most famous plays: to bridge the gap between
Egypt and Rome, where the audience is able to gain an understanding of the characters is ways they
have never been able to before because of the way their emotions and actions change on a whim. It is
difficult to really get Antony and Cleopatra and follow their story because of the way it bounces

Archetypal Patterns In Little Miss Sunshine And As I Lay...
Characters in stories follow archetypal patterns, whether it is something as simple as hero vs. villain,
or something more elaborate like a scapegoat or a rake. In the movie Little Miss Sunshine we follow
the Hoover family on their quest to fulfill self motivated goals, similar to that of the novel As I Lay
Dying by William Faulkner. In the novel, Faulkner sets up the premise for one of the most widely
accepted journey plots in literature, and the archetypal themes are carried over into the movie Little
Miss Sunshine. There are many parallels between the novel and the movie, including the more
contemporary ideas of a journey portrayed in Little Miss Sunshine. Following an archetypal basis, the

With a primary goal in mind, they must reach California in order for Olive to compete in the pageant
similar to the goal set in mind of the Bundrens (Arndt). Using the model that As I Lay Dying puts for
the journey archetype, Little Miss Sunshine follows a similar flow of journey, obstacle, and repeat.
The first real obstacle that the Hoovers encounter is their car breaking down. Similar to the loss of the
wagon that the Bundrens suffered at the river, their means of transportation is sabotaged. While the
Hoover s solution was much simpler, just having to push [the car] up to ten, fifteen miles an hour to
get the transmission into gear, the obstacle that was placed in front of them was still big enough to
cause them a delay on their time sensitive quest (Arndt). The modern idea of poverty is also another
big obstacle that the Hoovers must overcome. Coming from a lower class family, their car breaks
down; they don t have any insurance, and are unable to take care of grandpa after he passes away.
Having to resort to drastic measures, most of their decisions aren t thought through very carefully and
are instead sporadic and on the spot. Being virtually broke, Richard has to juggle his personal and
professional life, teaching twenty students in a classroom that could seat two hundred (Arndt). Life

Obamacare The Affordable Care Act
In March 2013, President Barack Obama signed a federal statue into law that would change the way
Americans receive healthcare. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, better known as the
Affordable Care Act, and sometimes called Obamacare is the most significant revision of the U.S.
healthcare system since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid back in 1965. The main function of the
Affordable Care Act is to improve hospitals and physicians practices financially, technologically, and
clinically so the health outcomes and lower costs. Americans are split, as they are with most political
issues, on whether or not the act is a viable solution to our healthcare problem. Even though it has had
its problems such as a faulty website and being thought of as too complicated and expensive for the
American government to take on, I believe the Affordable Care Act is a good solution for the
healthcare problems in our country. Before the Affordable Healthcare Act, there were a few healthcare
reform bills proposed and passed by Congress and earlier presidents. President Bill Clinton proposed a
healthcare reform bill that would make employers responsible for providing their employees with
health insurance. The Republicans did not agree with that plan and suggested an alternative that would
require individuals to buy insurance. The Clinton bill ended up failing because of negative advertising
and concerns that it was way too complex (Roy). He instead passed the State Children s

A Research On Electric Vehicle Policy
For this paper, I examined literature written about electric vehicle policy, specifically those articles
with a focus on current issues related to vehicle assimilation into our electrical grid. It s an exciting
time to research the state of electric vehicle policy, with so much new technology coming to the
market so quickly, and still so many unknowns about how it will all operate efficiently within our
current system. I have grouped the literature into two main categories for purposes of this paper:
Encouraging EV Adoption and Charging Infrastructure
Encouraging EV Adoption
One variable that will impact private and public investment in the EV space is obviously the
infiltration of electric vehicles during the next decade. In other words, how many EVs will be
purchased, replacing gas cars that are currently on our roads and highways. Understanding the speed
of adoption and consumer acceptance rates for this new way of traveling is important for U.S. policy
and planning purposes. Determining and understanding the causes of EV adoption and correlating that
to estimates of future technology adoption rates requires application of statistical modeling methods.
Baha Al Alawi and Thomas Bradley provide a comprehensive summary of EV market saturation in
their 2013 report entitled Review of Hybrid, Plug In Hybrid, and Electric Vehicle Market Modeling
Studies (Al Alawi et al. 2013).
I also found some literature focusing on the impact of financial incentives on electric vehicle

The Time Period Of The Cold War
The time period of the Cold War was a breeding ground for ideological change. It was an era filled
with fear and paranoia, not simply of the unknown, but of neighbours, friends, and family. World War
II, the atomic bomb, the Cold War, made it hard for Americans to continue their optimism historian
Stephen Ambrose commented. This paradigm shift is evident in the texts from the era, and by studying
them we come to understand the values and atmosphere of the time and the effect those values had on
the texts. The Cold War began after the end of World War II, after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki by the United States of America; that continued until the early 90s with the dissolving of
the Soviet Union. The two sides of the Cold War were the Western Bloc and Eastern Bloc, which are
terms given to the alliances formed by the USA and NATO; and the USSR and the Warsaw Pact
respectively. Named for its lack of major conflict or bloodshed between its two super powers, the USA
and USSR, despite the wars that occurred that those super powers supported, the Korean War and the
Vietnam War. After the bombing and subsequent end of WW II, the world was reeling from the
unprecedented destruction it caused as well as the implications and effects it would have on not only
war but society itself. During this time both a nuclear arms race and the space race occurred.
Primarily the Cold War was a power struggle between the USA and USSR, and their conflicting ideals
of capitalism

The Music That Transformed A Hidden Classic Into Modern...
The Music That Transformed a Hidden Classic into Modern Culture Le Fantôme de l Opéra, a
fictional novel published in 1911, by Gaston Leroux, puts the reader right in the catacombs of the
Paris Opera House in the late 1800s (Cox: Oxford Reference). An adventure, involving tragic love and
gothic elements, surrounds a detective s search to reveal the mystery of the Phantom of the Opera .
The detective acts as the narrator who reflects on his investigations of the Paris Opera House through
allusions and the tragedies that occur throughout the novel s entirety. Leroux especially highlights the
Phantom s undying love for a woman named Christine Daae and displaying the most primitive feeling

She argues that adaptations are a continuous development of culture and that with adaptations, we
seem to desire the repetition as much as the change ; however, she argues that a work is transformed
(Hutcheon 9). Her valuable points about the rationale of adaptation work is the underlying argument
in the continuation of making original works more valuable and in The Phantom of the Opera, music
does just that. When the musical was adapted from the novel, it heavily maintained the idea that music
was the central theme within the novel s allusions and metaphors. Music is an emotionally charged
realm and can evoke the most powerful of emotions if done well. The original text of the novel is
merely highlighted with the use of the composed soundtrack by Webber. Webber s adaptation of The
Phantom of the Opera is one of the most ideal examples of this phenomenal skill of leaving an original
story completely rendered into a product seeping with art. It is important to note when referencing
adaptations that the first definition that appears when one looks up adaptation into the Oxford
Reference dictionary are a variety of definitions that range from just about everything from an
adaptation of a book to an adaptation of a recipe. This being noted, one can assume that an adaptation
is any sort of adjustment to an original piece of work. However, Hutcheon references Walter

Social Status In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream varies for everyone, however, hard work, determination, and the desire to
achieve that dream are key factors that have played a role in the American Dream since it was first
thought of. Jay Gatsby in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is a prime example of achieving that
American Dream because Gatsby worked hard and was driven as he moved up the hierarchy from
transitioning from poor to rich. However, there are many who assume that the American Dream is a

In the case of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, there are some people that will claim Gatsby never
acquired his American Dream because he never ended up with Daisy in the end which was his primary

It is true that Gatsby didn t fully accomplish his American Dream because he wasn t able to get Daisy

Virginia Woolf s Theory Of Criticism, Poststructuralism...
Virginia Woolf seemed to think that something changed forever in society and in all of us after the
Great War. She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would
have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more
right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically
altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our
human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of
time and space were subjectivized. From its cultural impact, this theory of Relativity expanded to the
moral realm opening the door to Relativism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the
dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is
shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our
intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe.
From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner
process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux
supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand,
Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization
constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or
belonging to an individual order but to a social or moral order. To him, person is a social concept and
self is the inner unity to which all personal experience belongs as attributes of a subject . Self structure
is, therefore, a social

Landfills and their Effects on the Enviroment Essay
Landfills And Their Effects On Humans And The Enviroment
Every year Americans collectively create approximately 208 million tons of municipal solid waste,
which breaks down to 4.3 pounds of waste generated per American per day. In addition to this normal
waste, the United States produces roughly 279 million tons of hazardous waste per year.1 All of this
waste has to go somewhere. Two good methods of waste disposal, infrequently used, are incineration
and recycling. However, any waste that is not recycled or incinerated ends up in America s landfills.
Landfills that are not in proper working order can pose a serious threat to humans and the
environment, but ones that safely store all of their waste may possibly be helpful for the ... Show more

The rock should be as nonporous as possible to stop waste from seeping into the groundwater, but one
must be able to predict where the waste will go if it escapes through the liner of the landfill.5
The next layer is the bottom liner of the landfill, which can be made of one or more layers of natural
or synthetic materials. The liner is the landfill s defense to keep the waste out of the environment. This
liner can be made of clay, plastic, or a composite of plastic and clay soil. Natural liners, made of clays
and shales, often crack and allow the waste to enter the environment. In addition, some chemicals can
soak into the clay, thus causing additional harm to the environment.6 The Geomembranes, liners made
of plastic, may seem like they are the best available today, but many household chemicals can break
down the plastic, and it can be easily punctured.7 Thus, like natural liners, Geomembranes may also
allow waste to enter the environment. Combinations of the different kinds of liners can be more
effective than the use of a single material.8
The leachate collection system is what collects any water that has been contaminated by seeping
through the waste in a landfill. Leachate refers to the water that has been contaminated. If the system
happens to fail for any reason, the leachate can contaminate groundwater, the source of many
communities drinking water.9

Gandhi Imperialism
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869 1948), a past lawyer now world renowned activist, led India s
independence movement from Great Britain through his praxis of Satyagraha to take it back from
Colonial rule. To him the greatest menace to the world today is growing, exploiting, irresponsible
imperialism. Mahatma meaning supreme soul Gandhi showed his distaste towards British imperialism
through non cooperative and non violent movements when he saw what had become on India on his
return: use of culturally suffused symbols, Satyagraha which is an emphasis on truth in the political
field and his ability to win the masses. Following World War I he returned to India from South Africa
and became involved with the Indian National Congress and the ... Show more content on

It urged social compassion which was useful because it spread the word of his ideas while helping the
poor because those that had an excess were urged to give away to those in need. Gandhi launched a
Non cooperation Movement in 1920; since the colonial state owed its relevance to the operations of
the subjects, it would be destroyed if they withdrew support. It was practiced in multiple stages and
was promised independence within a year: involved resignation from government services, refusal to
use courts and schools, pay taxes, serve in the military, and the burning of foreign clothing. Although
some of these methods, such as refusal to court and schools, were taken too far; I believe that it
showed his persistence. Effective, but not necessary. In 1924 when he was released from prison which
was thrown in for disrupting the apparent peace he became wary of the Hindus and Muslims of India,
who has increasing tension them. Thus, this led Gandhi to embark on a 21 day fast to create mutual
respect and tolerance between them; his fast was for naught and placed the subject only higher on the
national agenda. Not effective and not necessary in the slightest, and it only further damaged his frail
body. With this

Social Media And Its Impact On Public Sector
Literature Review
Social media provides the voice, in other words, social network and media connect company or
organisation with its audience. Nowadays, social networking plays a significant role in any
organisation. It is much easier for private sector to be linked with the social media, rather than for
public sector. Public sector includes all organisations, which are owned or operated by the
government, and exist to provide services to citizens (PrivacySense.net, n.d.). Waste management and
recycling is one of the components of public sector.
Social technologies, Web 2.0, Gov 2.0.
For today, government organisations and agencies slowly increase use of social media channels; only
now it got obvious for them, that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, it can be suggested for waste management company to use Twitter and Facebook as a primary
social media platforms for external communications, in order to communicate with citizens on day to
day basis and keep them updated. As for internal communications within the company, the best is to
use LinkedIn, so employees can be aware of what is going on in the company, and build a relationship
with each other. Furthermore, the term, such as Gov 2.0, has to be mentioned. Government 2.0 (Gov
2.0) can be described as the use of information technology (IT) to commoditise and socialise
government services and processes (DiMaio, 2009). When Gov 2.0 and Web 2.0 works together, it has
a positive impact on the link between public sector organisation, government, and citizens.
The importance and purpose of social digital tools in waste management sector
Waste management and recycling services have been using the traditional tools of communication to
reach the audience, such as print advertisement, brochures and flyers. Through out the time the way to
do business and communicate with audience has changed, as the digital technology become more
advance. These changes have affected all the industry, including the waste and recycling sector. It
seems that organization within this sector have been always putting the importance of digital
technologies and opportunities of social media on the back burner. However, the

Historical and Ongoing Construction of Aboriginal Women in Canada as a Problem Population
In August of 2014, Tina Fontaine, a 15 year old from the Sagkeeng First Nation in Winnipeg, was
murdered. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper s response was not to regard it as a sociological
phenomenon but as a crime against an individual that should be investigated (Canadian Press, 2014).
Harper is virtually alone in this. Those demanding an inquiry and the treatment of this singular murder
as part of the larger concern of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a variety of theories that are useful in understanding this issue. The theories that will be used
here to explain the state of murdered and missing women in Canada and Harper s response to it are
societal reaction perspective and Spitzer s Marxian theory of deviance.
In order to understand the constructed identity of Aboriginal women in Canada today and in the past,
it is necessary to discuss ideas of empire, including Manifest Destiny and Terra Nullius. These
European concepts were and generally still form the ideology operating in Canada. Expansion of the
ruling class empire is taken for granted and divinely supported. This is the basis for European
exploration of the globe, claiming of already occupied lands and colonization of existing peoples.
Manifest Destiny was the 19th Century settler belief that it was their destiny to expand throughout
North America. Terra Nullius is the concept that land determined to be empty, in other words not
being used productively by a civilized people, could be occupied by those Europeans who found it. Of
course, both of these concepts belong to the ideology of European empire expansion which
indisputably devalued the existing Aboriginal communities. The French and English settlers pushed
their Christian beliefs onto Aboriginal peoples and succeeded in altering Aboriginal communities from
their matrilineal nature into

The Renaissance Of 17th Century Italy Essay
The Renaissance of 14th century Italy is often most revered as a cultural movement based on
humanism, which lead to an increase, in education and social involvement for certain groups of
people. The Renaissance in 15th century England was ultimately influenced by Italy, but had distinct
developments of its own. As one may expect equal benefits for all classes and genders during this
period of rapid change, the status of women did not particularly differ during this time period. Many
would even argue that their presence diminished in comparison to their medieval counterparts. This
essay will argue for the limited opportunities for women in education, politics, and paid labour during
Early Modern Europe in Italy and England, which ultimately barred them from obtaining what many
consider a contemporary understanding of a Renaissance.
Before exploring their restricted status, it is important to understand that most histories of women
were written by men, and their conditions were elevated by misogynistic interpretations of certain
contexts, especially the bible. Although certain authorities were challenged in this time period
(including histories of women written by men), the word of the church continued to retain a strong
voice. Much of the attitudes of male intellectuals during Early Modern Europe came from inherited
traditions from Christianity. In the popular story of Adam and Eve, Eve is often thought to be created
to alleviate the loneliness of Adam, and that she

  • 3. Advantages Of Gap Year I am convinced that one s college education is greatly enhanced by the maturity, experience, and perspective a student can bring post gap year. (Fred A. Hardon). A gap year is a period, usually, one academic year, taken by a student as a break between secondary school and higher education. The gap year as we know it started gaining attraction in the US in the 1960s. During their gap year, students usually travel and experience other cultures, gain work experience, learn other languages, and volunteer. Initially, taking a gap year has not always been socially acceptable in the US, however, it was much more acceptable in many European countries as well as Australia. In more recent years, however, the percentage of students putting their higher education on hold to pursue learning outside of the academic field has been increasing steadily. Although the percentage of students who are taking a gap year is steadily increasing, in comparison to other countries we are very much behind. According to the Gap Year Association, many students in other countries wait a year or more after high school before attending college. For instance, more than 50 percent of students In Norway, Denmark and Turkey take a gap year before going to college, and that is according to the Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research, and Education in Oslo, Norway. Gap year better prepares students for college and adulthood in general. Because the majority of students spend their gap year by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Explain The Realism Of The Gulf War Abstract The Gulf War was a brief affair between Kuwait and Iraq in 1990 and 1991 when Iraq invaded Kuwait, yet many additional state and non state parties involved. Realism is a theory attempting to explain international relationships, which says that states struggle to hold power and will inevitably be in conflict with each other because of this. Although realism was a core theory before the Cold War, many believe that it is no longer applicable post Cold War. This paper has three parts. First, it will provide a brief explanation of the Gulf War. Second, it will explain realism including the view of realism s relevance post Cold War. Finally, it will discuss the realist interpretation of the actions of three large actors involved in the war: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the United States. This paper will critically discuss the Gulf War and investigate the dynamics and motivations of the three main actors involved from a realist perspective. This paper will prove that although realism is no longer overt, hidden intentions and behaviors line up to agree with a realist methodology in international relations. Realism is one theory that has been used to explain international relationships. However, many say that it is less relevant post Cold War due to changes in politics and interactions between states. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where there were small moments of collaboration, it was only to position one s self to gain power by force. Countries have learned, as if through rote memorization, that it is not appropriate to attack other states in order to get what they want; they have been taught to try (or pretend to try) and work together. However, it is all too clear that as soon as the state does not get what it desires in the easy manner, the state acts in a manner explained by realism, which is to take it by sheer force, perhaps providing a guise for a ... Computer Viruses And Its Effects On A Computer System A computer virus is a malware program that, when executed copies itself into other data files, computer programs, or the boot sector of the hard drive with 95% of viruses doing no more than that. (1)(2). A virus might attach itself to a program such as a word document program. Each time the word document program runs, the virus runs too and it has the chance to reproduce by attaching to other programs. (3) Nowadays, it is extremely important to be aware of viruses because they can cause very dangerous consequences such as identity theft and fraud. When people generally think about computer viruses, they normally think about an attack on a computer system, however, they may not be aware of how common computer viruses are. It can be beneficial to know a few of the different types of viruses, the kind of damage they can cause and methods to protect yourself from them. In this essay, we will be covering when computer viruses first made an appearance and contrasting this to how they are like now on social media. Also, we will be covering how they work and what can be done to prevent the growing risks of computer viruses on social media. Computer viruses were first widely seen in the late 1980s, with earlier viruses being pieces of code embedded in a larger, legitimate program such as a spreadsheet program or a game. When the user downloads and runs this program, the virus loads itself into memory then looks for any other programs on the disk. If it can find one, it modifies the ... • 8. U.s. Japanese Government Policies Essay Introduction The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of a set of the recent Japanese government policies. Before China overtaking the second largest economy in the world in 2011, Japan has kept the position for several decades. However, after the housing bubbles burst in 1990s, Japan had economically struggled where it can no longer grow at such a substantial rate as previously. In fact, its economy had shrunk when other neigbouring economies, such as Taiwan and South Korea, had prospered. So Abe Shinzo was elected as the prime minister of Japan and he has tried to revive the economy under Abenomics; yet, its impacts on the real economy seem ineffective until recently. This is why I think it will be interesting to evaluate whether Abenomics was the best option for Japanese government for reviving the economy from the prolonged recession. Was Abenomics effective? Research questions are as follows: A) Were the uses of monetary and fiscal policies effective during recession in Japan? B) Will the structural reforms be effective solution for Japanese economy? I will examine the effectiveness of Abenomics by looking at the historical economic data in Japan from 1980 to 2015. In addition, I will introduce some of literatures and relevant books to support my view on Abenomics. Literature review Japan s lost decade Hayashi and Prescott (2002) conducted a study on Japan s lost decade to provide a new interpretation based on neoclassical growth model. ... • 9. Reflection About Relationships In the two years we have been together, my boyfriend, Andy, and I never talked about what we considered cheating to be. This past July, I found out that he had spent the night in his car with one of my closests friends, and his ex girlfriend. I had told him in the past that I was not comfortable with him being out with a girl late at night, but never fully elaborated on it. Realizing that he had done something I wasn t comfortable with, he told me he was up late playing Halo, and kept his outing from me for almost a month. Since we had never laid our boundaries, there were no boundaries to break. Personally, I view cheating as doing something you would not tell your significant other about, but he sees it as having intimate relations with someone other than your significant other. He saw it as him doing something wrong and apologized for it, but felt that it was nowhere near cheating. Our disagreement stems from the differences between our beliefs and expectations for each other. In our relationship, my boyfriend had never done anything for me to lack a sense of trust. He let me know where he was, even when I did not want to know, and always tried his best to keep in contact with me. When it came to me spending time with the opposite sex, he was always comfortable with the idea which is why he thought I felt the same. He had complete trust in me and never minded the time or the place. Growing up, his father had an intimate relationship with another woman, so to him, that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Radio Free Dixie Critical Analysis: Radio Free Dixie The beginning of black militancy in the United States is said to have begun with the chants Black Power demanded by Stokely Carmichael and Willie Ricks during the 1966 March against Fear. While Carmichael and Ricks may have coined the phrase black power , the roots of the movement had been planted long before by Mr. Robert F. Williams. In Timothy Tyson s book: Radio Free Dixie: Robert F. Williams and the Roots of Black Power, Tyson details the life of a remarkable man who had the audacity not only to challenge racial injustice in America but also to contest the rarely disputed strategies of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Establishment. Tyson uses Williams life to illustrate his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story telling effect allows for a fairly easy read that provides a great deal of information along the way. Tyson s book in comparison to similar biographical works based in this time period was laid out particularly well which again allowed for an easy read. Similar to Dr. King s autobiography, Tyson goes in depth in to the roots of Williams past deciphering his experiences and relating them to the final product. For example, detailing Williams life back to the ideologies of his grandparents, his childhood, experiences with racial injustice and his military career allowed for a deeper understanding of his transformation in to a militant black leader. Another effective tactic Tyson used to depict Williams life was to focus his relationships with several other prominent black leaders at the time.; Roy Wilkins, Dr. King, Thurgood Marshall etc. This allows the reader to find parallels and better understand the complexities of the black freedom struggle. Tyson highlights the incongruity in strategy and ideology in his detailing of these relationships yet maintains his central thesis that in the end they were all fighting for the same thing. The life of Robert Williams underlines many aspects of the ongoing black freedom struggle: The decisive racial significance of World War II and the impact of the Cold war on the Freedom Struggle and equally important the centrality of questions of sexuality and gender in racial politics. ... • 13. The Pantheon in Rome and the Candi Prambanan in Indonesia Around the world people have been known to dedicate themselves and their families to a certain type of religion or God. Practicing religion has been a major part of peoples daily rituals for centuries. Believing in a higher power than ones own takes full dedication to that certain religion or God(s). In order to give respect and be able to apply action into these beliefs it has became a tradition around the world to build a place of worship. These places of worship are referred to differently across the world depending on location and the religion being practiced. More specifically the Temple is a building that is devoted for worshiping but also is known to house a multitude of religions depending on its location. For example, the Romans have been known to house their Gods in Temples usually with a multitude of columns to incase a statue of a God or Gods. Similarly, the people of Indonesia have been building decorative Candi (Indonesian word for Temple) to praise and worship their Gods.4 For instance, the Romans constructed The Pantheon, dedicated to the Gods of Ancient Rome compared to Candi Prambanan built by the Indonesians in order to worship the concept of Trimurti. 3 The link between these two cultures can be seen in the way that both Romans and Indonesians worship their Gods in Temples with the use of separate sacred rooms and what these Temples represent for their culture, but are able to be separated by their choice of architectural form, style and use of ... • 15. Overview Of A Experiment On The Alcohol-Water Experiment Analysis The aim of the extended experimental investigation was to conduct an experiment, and observe whether it would support or oppose the hypothesis of: As the temperature is increased, then the volume of the Alcohol Water solution will contract accordingly, due to the input of thermal energy in the solution which will cause the hydrogen bonds to break and cause the volume of the alcohol water solution to contract. The experiments involved increasing the temperature of a 10 ml alcohol (5 ml Ethanol, 5 ml Isopropanol) and water (5ml) solution, and measuring the contraction of the solutions after a period of time. With both experiments, contraction was present with the alcohol (ethanol, isopropanol) and water solution. The first of the tests conducted was the contraction of the Isopropanol water solution. The 10 ml solution, consisting of 5ml Isopropanol and 5 ml water had total contractions between 0.3 and 0.4 ml during the selected testing time period. Initially, the solutions decreased by a total of 0.4 and 0.6 ml. The general trend with the initial contraction of the solutions is that the higher the temperature of the solution the more contraction occurs within the solutions. Another trend with the isopropanol water solutions is that the volume contraction over the testing period, of 20 minutes, is that all the solutions at the different temperatures lost the same volume. Discussion and Evaluation With the increased temperature, the isopropanol water solution contracts faster than the lower temperature due to the fact that molecules move faster with increased temperature. The hydrogen bonding between isopropanol and water is quite strong between the solvents and within themselves. As a result of the compounds properties they rearrange to assume a more efficient hydrogen bond between them, as the angles required for efficient hydrogen bonding are not present; the bond angles change due to the repulsive force of free electrons within the compound. The intermolecular forces that cause the molecules of ethanol, isopropanol, and water to rearrange and contract primarily include dipole dipole interaction and hydrogen bonding. In terms of dipole dipole interaction, the forces occur when polar molecules are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Value Of America Values of America Jennifer Song Rasmussen College G142 July 17, 2015 Values of America Many things influence the values a person holds. Culture, religion, government, and people influence it. Values are important and lasting beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what I good or bad and desirable or undesirable (What are Values). America has many values, but three most popular ones are family, freedom, and equality. They are the three most common things a person can hear about and talk about. America was founded on these three values. America s value of family comes from the American dream. American s are fiercely loyal to their family and close friends. American s believe that family takes care of family and they believe parents are supposed to raise, educate, protect, and guide their children into being proper adults. In the textbook it says, family members often go out of their way to make personal sacrifices so others will be happy and successful (Vissing 6). • 18. Migrant Groups Are More At Risk Of Developing Mental Disorder Today there are approximately 1 billion migrants in the world out of which 214 million are international migrants and 740 million are internal migrants. This wide range of population include workers, undocumented migrants, students, refugees and others, with each having different needs, health determinants and vulnerability. The health needs of this large population are considerable (WHO, 2015). Migration is a stressful experience and not all of the migrants respond to the stress similarly. The response of individual can be influenced by multiple factors like personal, social and cultural. Some of these factors are aggravated by the loss of social support system, cultural values, religious norms, changes in own identity and adjustment to a new culture. These stresses related to migration impact the mental health of migrants and there are strong evidences which suggest that certain migrant groups are more at risk of developing mental disorder. Moreover, the rate of mental illness is also increased among migrants (Bhugra, Gupta, Bhui, Craig, Dogra Ingleby, 2011). The loss of culture and social support cause grief which is a healthy reaction and natural consequence of migration. • 19. The Importance Of Non-Fictional Media While it is clear that nonfictional media can convey meaning because it is based on facts, it is still unclear as to whether or not fictional media can convey meaning. When the word meaning is used in this paper it is referring to what is indicated to be, or actually is, expressed or indicated; signification; import. (dictionary.com) There is an argument as to whether or not fictional media can convey meaning, specifically cartoons. We can define a cartoon as interpretive pictures utilizing symbolization and bold exaggeration to present an idea, a message, or a point of view concerning events, things, or situations. (Smith Leptich, 1963). From this definition, it seems as though fictional media can convey meaning but this paper will take a deeper look into that. Fictional media should convey meaning because there are large amounts of children that tune in weekly to watch fictional media such as cartoons. There are higher stakes when the audience is children, so it is important for fictional media to convey meaning. Additionally, related to the topic of suspension of disbelief it is extremely important for fictional media to convey meaning in case people actually believe what they see is true. This paper will take a closer look at media such as Sausage Party and make the argument that this media does not convey any meaning. On the other hand, even if fictional media does not convey any meaning it still has the capability of bringing an entire family together. There is plenty of fictional media that does, in fact, convey meaning, especially on television. Fictional media has the capability to get children to feel more involved with tactics such as participatory viewing. These fictional cartoons on television can actually be extremely helpful in educating children, when used correctly. Fictional media has the capability of portraying politics in cartoon form, even if it is propaganda, it can be argued that it is conveying meaning even if it is an over exaggeration of a current event. Even though media might be fictional does not mean that it cannot convey meaning. In fact, fictional media can convey meaning and it is crucial that fictional media relay a positive message. It is the richer farmers who may derive relatively larger benefits because of their capacity to use these allied inputs. Subsidies to elementary education form about half of the total subsidies on general education. However, this is not true for all individual States: the share of elementary education is lowest in the high income States and the highest in the low income States (Goa, Punjab and West Bengal actually give higher subsidies to secondary education than primary education).A negative correlation between the level of per capita income and the share of subsidies to elementary education is thus discernible. Most subsidies to higher education accrue predominantly to the better off sections of society as they have an overwhelming advantage in competing out prospective candidates from the poorer sections in getting admission to courses that are characterised by scarcity of seats. For subsidies of health, the greater emphasis on curative health care expenditure often reflects a bias towards the better off people whereas preventive health care expenditure with much larger externalities would clearly be of greater help to the economically weaker sections of the society. The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 called for the establishment of 12 Federal Reserve Banks throughout the nation in order to engender a more stable and secure financial system. The Gold Rush, the 1906 Earthquake, San Francisco s natural assets, and financial panics that make the Great Recession of the 21st century look homogeneous to a blip all of these contributed to San Francisco s evolution as the top candidate to accommodate as district headquarters. These banks were vulnerably susceptible to runs or panics, when individuals lost confidence in the bank and rushed to withdraw their mamba, inundating the amount of mamba that banks kept on hand and causing chains of bank failures. Isolated from the established banking system in the East, the West built up its own capital and developed its own network of banks, centered in San Francisco. San Francisco banks acted as correspondents for banks located in the economic hinterlands, clearing checks, holding reserves, and negotiating loans and deposits. President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act in 1913, engendering a semi centralized banking system, with the activities of each district grouped around its own Federal Reserve Bank. After the Great Dejection, which was optically discerned as stemming in part from the diffuse ascendancy within the Federal Reserve System, the Banking Act of 1935 centralized monetary policy in the Board of Governors and the incipient Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), with its 12 members, consisting of the Board of Governors, the president of the Incipient York Victualed, and a rotating group of four Reserve Bank presidents. the Federal Reserve s duties fall into four general areas: conducting the nation s monetary policy by influencing the monetary and credit conditions in the economy in pursuit of maximum employment, stable ... LANDING GEAR SAFETY DEVICES Most airplanes with a retractable landing gear have a gear warning horn that will sound when the airplane is configured for landing and the landing gear is not down and locked. Normally, the horn is linked to the throttle or flap position, and/or the airspeed indicator so that when the airplane is below a certain airspeed, configuration, or power setting with the gear retracted, the warning horn will sound. What happens is that atomic hydrogen found in such substances interacts chemically with the high tensile steel in the gear, causing the affected areas to transform chemically into a brittle alloy with a risk of fracturing. The only way to counteract hydrogen embrittlement is to remove the affected component and bake it in a special oven at 375 F for 23 hours, Lind tells AMT. This allows the hydrogen atoms to migrate to the surface and then escape. Maintenance best practices When damaged aircraft landing gear comes into the shop, it costs more to overhaul than landing gear that has been maintained properly. Here is what you can do to keep your landing gear costs down. The first step is lubrication. It may sound simple, but insufficient lubrication during regular usage causes unnecessary wear and tear in many of the system s components. Lubrication is critical to the movement of all articulated parts and joints of landing gear, says Lind. Proper lubrication ensures smooth functioning, less friction and wear, and the appropriate transfer of forces throughout the gear during use. Lubrication is key to keeping out water, de icing fluid, and other corrosion causing substances. Make no mistake; corrosion is a real problem for landing gear. Before you lubricate, be sure to check the aircraft s manual to find out what substances you can and cannot use. In some cases, using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There will be different needs for every product, origin, destination, and organization. First on the list is cost. On the other hand, if the organization were able to ship their goods by truck, then they would have the option of either operating an in house fleet or outsourcing their transportation needs. When comparing rail to tucking it is important to keep some things in mind. In the early days, the choice of rail vs truck was easy because by the time that transportation by tuck came about rail transportation had been around for a long time. In addition, the adoption of motor cars also proved to be more gradual than that of passenger trains, the result of primitive technologies, high costs, and poor roads (GRANT, 2012, p. 248). This further added to the dominance of rail. In defense of trucking it can hall large amounts of cargo over long distances. In addition, it can do so with a reasonably high degree of responsiveness. However, the amount of cargo that rail can hall is considerably larger than that of trucking. The responsiveness of trucking also comes at a higher cost then rail. Trucking is more suited to haling more expensive goods that require higher responsiveness. However, in other parts of the world where the rail infrastructure is more developed or more suitable for transporting cargo this may not be an option. Perhaps the best use of both rail and truck is in combination through intermodal transportation. Suburban Warriors Sparknotes The Rise of the Right Beginning in the 1960s the conservative middle class, living in the suburbs, called for an end to the New Deal and the moral decay of their country. Recognizing the liberal movement s inability to organize, and agree on issues, right wing activists began to mobilize. Although split between social conservatives and libertarians the right was able to unify on common ground and change the direction their nation was headed. In Suburban Warriors: The Origins of the New American Right, McGirr argues that this movement, centered in Orange County, would begin a new era of a return to traditional values and would be successful as a result of organization, faith, and a fierce dedication to what these middle class Americans believed to be morally right. The book follows the rise of the right side chronologically, focusing on major issues and themes along the way. The American middle class longed for the return of the American dream working comfortably paid jobs, moving into planned neighborhoods they now had time to focus on other issues such as the morally corrupt communists and liberals who were dominating the media. However, watching the play in the intimate setting of the Round at the Folger Theater allowed the audience to have a more intimate connection with the actors and better identify with the characters actions. The director took care to light the mood of certain scenes accurately which effectively warmed and cooled the audience down in a way the director wanted the audience to feel. The director also made several casting decisions that really pushed the interpretation of the play he wanted to exhibit. The technical production of the performance including lighting and sound paired with the casting decisions made by the director help display the director s angle of one of Shakespeare s most famous plays: to bridge the gap between Egypt and Rome, where the audience is able to gain an understanding of the characters is ways they have never been able to before because of the way their emotions and actions change on a whim. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, better known as the Affordable Care Act, and sometimes called Obamacare is the most significant revision of the U.S. healthcare system since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid back in 1965. The main function of the Affordable Care Act is to improve hospitals and physicians practices financially, technologically, and clinically so the health outcomes and lower costs. Americans are split, as they are with most political issues, on whether or not the act is a viable solution to our healthcare problem. Before the Affordable Healthcare Act, there were a few healthcare reform bills proposed and passed by Congress and earlier presidents. President Bill Clinton proposed a healthcare reform bill that would make employers responsible for providing their employees with health insurance. It was an era filled with fear and paranoia, not simply of the unknown, but of neighbours, friends, and family. This paradigm shift is evident in the texts from the era, and by studying them we come to understand the values and atmosphere of the time and the effect those values had on the texts. Her valuable points about the rationale of adaptation work is the underlying argument in the continuation of making original works more valuable and in The Phantom of the Opera, music does just that. When the musical was adapted from the novel, it heavily maintained the idea that music was the central theme within the novel s allusions and metaphors. Music is an emotionally charged realm and can evoke the most powerful of emotions if done well. The original text of the novel is merely highlighted with the use of the composed soundtrack by Webber. Webber s adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most ideal examples of this phenomenal skill of leaving an original story completely rendered into a product seeping with art. I want to travel. I want to see all that the world has to offer and see every corner of the globe possible. Thankfully, my college has a very nice study abroad program and they have an organization that is called Habitat for Humanity that takes many trips throughout the year. Even though that I am going into college undecided I do have some choices in mind for my career one of them being Political Science. With my political science degree I could become a political advocate for a community or cause. I am currently terrified that I will not find the career that fits me. I have so many options ahead for me, but I can not seem to find the right fit. I want to travel and be able to help people but a lot of the jobs pertaining to humanities do not always have the greatest salaries. What happens if I can not find a job with both a good salary and the humanities aspect I am looking for? Also, with entering college my second fear was realized, what if I can not make any friends? Social Status In The Great Gatsby The American Dream varies for everyone, however, hard work, determination, and the desire to achieve that dream are key factors that have played a role in the American Dream since it was first thought of. Jay Gatsby in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is a prime example of achieving that American Dream because Gatsby worked hard and was driven as he moved up the hierarchy from transitioning from poor to rich. However, there are many who assume that the American Dream is a myth purely due to their belief that no one can ever truly be successful in obtaining the American Dream. In the case of Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, there are some people that will claim Gatsby never acquired his American Dream because he never ended up with Daisy in the end which was his primary goal due to him ending up dead after losing Daisy to her husband since both Tom and Daisy [smash] up things and creatures and then [retreat] back into their money or vast carelessness (Fitzgerald 179). It is true that Gatsby didn t fully accomplish his American Dream because he wasn t able to get Daisy all to himself, but it can t be denied that he did complete so much in his pursuit. He gave it his all, working as hard as he could since he was young until he reached a point in his life that he finally went after what he wanted, and even though he failed, he would have got back up again and tried again. No one ever said that the American Dream was going to be easy. If it was, no one would have to strive to complete their goals or feel that sense of accomplishment of reaching their dream. • 42. Virginia Woolf s Theory Of Criticism, Poststructuralism... Virginia Woolf seemed to think that something changed forever in society and in all of us after the Great War. She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of time and space were subjectivized. From its cultural impact, this theory of Relativity expanded to the moral realm opening the door to Relativism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe. From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand, Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or belonging to an individual order but to a social or moral order. To him, person is a social concept and self is the inner unity to which all personal experience belongs as attributes of a subject . Self structure is, therefore, a social ... Landfills and their Effects on the Enviroment Essay Landfills And Their Effects On Humans And The Enviroment Every year Americans collectively create approximately 208 million tons of municipal solid waste, which breaks down to 4.3 pounds of waste generated per American per day. In addition to this normal waste, the United States produces roughly 279 million tons of hazardous waste per year.1 All of this waste has to go somewhere. Two good methods of waste disposal, infrequently used, are incineration and recycling. However, any waste that is not recycled or incinerated ends up in America s landfills. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rock should be as nonporous as possible to stop waste from seeping into the groundwater, but one must be able to predict where the waste will go if it escapes through the liner of the landfill.5 The next layer is the bottom liner of the landfill, which can be made of one or more layers of natural or synthetic materials. The liner is the landfill s defense to keep the waste out of the environment. This liner can be made of clay, plastic, or a composite of plastic and clay soil. Natural liners, made of clays and shales, often crack and allow the waste to enter the environment. In addition, some chemicals can soak into the clay, thus causing additional harm to the environment.6 The Geomembranes, liners made of plastic, may seem like they are the best available today, but many household chemicals can break down the plastic, and it can be easily punctured.7 Thus, like natural liners, Geomembranes may also allow waste to enter the environment. Combinations of the different kinds of liners can be more effective than the use of a single material.8 The leachate collection system is what collects any water that has been contaminated by seeping through the waste in a landfill. Leachate refers to the water that has been contaminated. If the system happens to fail for any reason, the leachate can contaminate groundwater, the source of many communities drinking water.9 Finally, the cover is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to understand the constructed identity of Aboriginal women in Canada today and in the past, it is necessary to discuss ideas of empire, including Manifest Destiny and Terra Nullius. These European concepts were and generally still form the ideology operating in Canada. Expansion of the ruling class empire is taken for granted and divinely supported. This is the basis for European exploration of the globe, claiming of already occupied lands and colonization of existing peoples. Manifest Destiny was the 19th Century settler belief that it was their destiny to expand throughout North America. Terra Nullius is the concept that land determined to be empty, in other words not being used productively by a civilized people, could be occupied by those Europeans who found it. • 48. The Renaissance Of 17th Century Italy Essay The Renaissance of 14th century Italy is often most revered as a cultural movement based on humanism, which lead to an increase, in education and social involvement for certain groups of people. The Renaissance in 15th century England was ultimately influenced by Italy, but had distinct developments of its own. As one may expect equal benefits for all classes and genders during this period of rapid change, the status of women did not particularly differ during this time period. Many would even argue that their presence diminished in comparison to their medieval counterparts. This essay will argue for the limited opportunities for women in education, politics, and paid labour during Early Modern Europe in Italy and England, which ultimately barred them from obtaining what many consider a contemporary understanding of a Renaissance. Before exploring their restricted status, it is important to understand that most histories of women were written by men, and their conditions were elevated by misogynistic interpretations of certain contexts, especially the bible. Although certain authorities were challenged in this time period (including histories of women written by men), the word of the church continued to retain a strong voice. Much of the attitudes of male intellectuals during Early Modern Europe came from inherited traditions from Christianity.
