Common Childhood Illness Research Paper
Childhood Illnesses
Chickenpox is one of the most common childhood illnesses, it causes a red rash itchy rash that
turns into fluid filled spots, it can vary from a small rash to the spots covering the whole body.
The spots are more likely to appear on the face, around the ears, under arms and belly. The child is
likely to have a fever and due to the spots being so itchy they will feel uncomfortable and irritated,
mild painkillers can temporarily alleviate this however there I no found treatment to stop
chickenpox. The incubation period for chickenpox is between one and three weeks; its most
infectious time is between one and two days before the rash appears, but it continues to be
infectious until all the blisters have crusted over. This means that if a child has got chickenpox
they must be away from the nursery for 2 3 weeks so that other children are protected.
General colds/coughs are normal in children and they will on average have around 8 a year, this is
because they have an immunity to the common cold however as they get older they will get colds
less as their immunity is growing stronger with each cold they get. The symptoms are a runny nose,
cough and sore throat. The common cold is usually nothing to worry about, make sure they drink
more than usual to help their throat and if needed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

recommended that a child gets vaccinated before they start nursery due to this and if they have

Rise Of Athens Essay
In the 5th century BC the city of Athens is growing rapidly. The city of Goddess Athena will
succeed under the leadership of the famous Pericles, to experience the greatest glory that a city
would ever know. Pericles will be the one who will sign it and through his politics Athens will
enter the so called Golden Age .
He was the one who actually transformed Athens from a city state to a metropolis and gradually to
an empire. (Pericles, 2009)
All started with the Delian League which rendered Athens a dominant in the Hellenic area. As soon
as the treasury of the League was located in Athens there was a sudden development in many areas
including, constructions, trade, arts and culture. He had also made many social reformations
allowing citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spartans were terrified of Athens evolution and were looking for a cause to interfere.
That cause will eventually come by the Corfiots.
The naval battle in Sivota in 433 BC will mark the beginning of the Peloponnesian War that lasted
for 27 years. (Ancient Warfare, 2008) At the beginning of the war the Athenians had managed to
keep Spartans away, but a sudden plague resulted in the death of a major number of Athenians,
including Pericles himself. Soon enough his strategies were abandoned and as none of his
processes had the ability to lead the army.
The next day found Athens under the Spartan Sovereignty. The Peloponnesian War managed to
radically change the flow of history. It was probably the most destructive and those who took part
in it didn t remain unaffected. At the same it signed the end of democracy and the Golden Age.
Although the Peloponnesian War was the reason for the end of the Athenian Golden Age it would
be unfair to blame only the Spartans. Warfare was a usual thing in the ancient times as there was
much competition between city states. If we take into account the rule of rise and fall, the end of
the Golden Age would be inevitable and that was proved by the fact that when the Peloponnesian
War was over the new force in the Hellenic area, the Macedonians conquered the whole Greece,
establishing a new form of government, the

A Career Intuitive, And I See Dream Jobs
m a career intuitive, and I see dream jobs. When I work with clients, I see their gifts and
potentials; what they came here to do; the careers they would love; and where they should live.
This information comes to me as photographic images and strong messages that I transmit
directly to my clients. Sometimes I see my client s departed loved ones, who come to the
session to offer career guidance. This joining of two seemingly disconnected worlds the divine
realms and the world of work seems to be my particular talent. I was born in New Orleans to a
French Cajun mother who came from a long line of women with the gift. I inherited a double
dose of telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition from her and her mother, and on back through
generations of Degas women. These unusual gifts were nurtured by the mysterious city of my
childhood. In the haunted alleys of the French Quarter, most everybody gives respect to the
unseen world in some form or other: voodoo, Catholicism, psychics, vampires, Mardi Gras. My
early years were flavored with this spicy magic, from my Grandpa s stories of the swirling
Mississippi River to the unforgettable images I absorbed in the dark recesses of Crescent City
life. I thrived on the rhythms of my crazy Cajun ancestors. And, like them, I heard other people s
thoughts and had vivid dreams of events that would happen in the future. My psychic gift is most
powerful now that I use it to help others. The precognitive images that I see help me guide my

Comparing and Contrasting Two Learning Theories
Comparing and contrasting two learning theories
One of the simplest and most commonly used methods of conceptualizing learning is that of
reinforcement theory (Noe 2010: 142). Every time a parent promises a child a toy for being
good during a grocery store trip or threatens a teen with being grounded for bad grades, he or she
is using reinforcement theory. Reinforcement theory is based upon the assumption that people
want to experience as much pleasure as possible and avoid pain. Thus, businesses offer workers
bonuses for good work, and issue reprimands (such as docking pay or denying a promotion) for
poor behavior.
The formal method of instilling learning through reinforcement theory is to use a schedule.
According to a fixed schedule, a person is rewarded for performing the behavior a specific
number of times; according to a continuous ratio schedule, the reward occurs after every
behavior, and according to a variable ratio schedule, the reward does not occur with any
predictable consistency when the behavior is performed. The advantages of fixed and continuous
rewards are that the behavior is more quickly instilled. The advantage of a variable schedule is
that the behavior is less quickly extinguished, given the subject anticipates getting a reward for a
longer period of time (Noe 2010: 143).
Reinforcement may be effective in encouraging people to perform relatively rote tasks, but most
organizations require more complex forms of behavior to function. People must be

. This exploratory study used a cross sectional survey method (Hopper, Craig, Janvir, Wetsel,
Reimels, Anderson, Greenvilee Clemson, 2010, p. 422). Compassion satisfaction and fatigue
subscales were measured using the Professional Quality of Life, using ProQOL R IV instrument

concluded that recognising the signs and symptoms, and identifying best practice interventions and
raising awareness, will lead to the development of ongoing support programs for hospital nurses
(Hopper, et al., 2010, p. 427). Longitudinal data was collected to determine the efficacy of resilience

You Can Do It Baby By Leslie Garrety Analysis
Are Parents Actually Against You? The article You Can Do It, Baby written by Leslie Garrett
portrays an idea where parents, teachers, and adults are working against children when it
involves their future. The article focuses on the fact that most adults tell children that they can
be whatever they want to be. The speaker is a young twelve year old girl. In this article, she is
giving her opinion on how all children are told they can be anything they want to be, when in
reality, they can t. The author of this article makes the point that she believes it causes long term
harm on children by telling them this instead of helping them in their future. She states this
causes children to consider themselves as a failure when they cannot become whatever they
want. Sometimes, this can cause children to feel entitled or disappointed in life when they find
out the truth. In the article, Garrett states her idea that adults should not be telling this to kids
because it isn t true. She proves this by providing research and references. There is an editorial
cartoon that is not directly connected to this article, but has the same idea as Garrett. The
cartoon helps strengthen her idea without having as many outside sources. These two articles
use rhetoric to similar effect. In this article, Leslie Garret provides a wide range of research that
all comes to the same result. The research focuses on asking the children want they want to be
when they grow up. Most children s answers are something like these: professional athlete,
doctor, teacher, singer, or an artist. The likelihood of every child being able to become one of
these things is very low. When asking a child this question, how many respond with a taxi or a
bus driver? Or even a trash man? Not many children dream of having jobs like that when they
grow up. These conclusions from multiple studies all come to an agreement that telling children
they can be anything they want to be causes more long term negative effects than positive effects.
Many children in these studies are shown as not engaged or dissatisfied and even disappointed. If
a child has such high hopes that they can be a professional athlete, they will not be happy with
what they end up doing as a

Forensic DNA Analysis
The applications of cell biology in the following four fields are given below:
1.Forensic
Forensic molecular biology involves the study of human and mitochondrial DNA (may include
other primates). Forensic molecular biology emphasizes molecular techniques such as DNA
profiling and repetitive DNA in the human genome; origin of genetic polymorphisms and how they
are maintained; continuous versus discrete allele systems; DNA isolation methods; Y chromosome
haplogrouping and analysis; RFLP analysis methods; PCR based typing systems; automated
systems and DNA databases; applications of mitochondrial DNA analysis; pedigree analysis;
evidence preparation; and legal and ethical considerations.
Forensic anthropology
Forensic anthropology is for identification and recovery of remains. In extreme cases where
conventional techniques are unable to determine the identity of the remains, anthropologists are
sometimes able to deduce certain characteristics based on the skeletal remains. Race, sex, age and
stature can often be determined by both measuring the remains and looking for structural clues in
the bones. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DNA evidence can definitively link a suspect to either a crime scene or victim. Nuclear DNA
evidence has been recovered from blood, semen, saliva, skin cells and hair. Furthermore
Mitochondrial DNA can be recovered from both bone and teeth dating back thousands of years.
Laboratory analysis of DNA evidence generally involves the sample being amplified and quantified
by a form of the Polymerase chain reaction known as Quantitative PCR or qPCR. (PCR)
amplification of any sample recovered followed by sequencing via Capillary electrophoresis in
order to obtain a DNA profile which can be compared to suspect DNA. DNA can also be extracted
from animals and used to at least identify the species, for example bird or bat remains on an

few restrictions in obtaining it to begin with. The norm usually asked of lenders by the USLL (

Your plans for planting flowers should begin in the middle of winter. Landscaping for the birds
is begun by trees and bushes. Some flowers attract birds of certain types. The birds are not
always in need of the blossoms themselves. They are in need of the seeds which come later. The

for the birds to feed on. When the seed heads have been dried, you will get sparrows, finches,

Imapct of History on Japanese Culture Essay
Introduction Japanese culture is very unique. It is a culture that has stirred many outsiders curiosity
throughout history because of a level of mystery that surrounds it. It is a culture that many admire.
The reasons behind the mystery and uniqueness of Japanese culture to outsiders is due in part to
the unique history that have made it what it is today. Because Japan is a chain of islands its culture
has developed in an atmosphere of isolation and control to a certain extent. Over the history of Japan
, layers of cultural development can be seen where outside influences were either adapted or
shielded from the culture. There are three very influential layers created by the Age of Reform

Buddhism and Shintoism developed and exist together peacefully throughout most of Japan s
history. (National Geographic Society, 2010) During the Age of Reform Emperor Temmu set the
precedent for future Japanese emperors by setting himself up as the Heavenly Emperor. In doing
this, he linked the position of emperor to having a higher power. Emperor Temmu set the
foundation for what is known as the classical age of Japan which includes the Nara and Heian
Periods.
Nara Period With the Nara Period (AD 710 794) came a permanently located capital city, carefully
organized into a grid of streets. This new capital created a stability in which culture could flourish.
The first known collection of Japanese poems, Manyoshu, or Ten Thousand Leaves was created.
Buddhism became the focal religion and many shrines were built. During the Nara period the
aesthetic seen clearly in modern Japanese culture started to develop, stemming from the Buddhist
idea of sensitivity to things . (National Geographic Society, 2010)
Heian Period The Heian Period (AD 794 1185) is known for the development of the Samurai
warrior culture. Prince Genji, known as the Shining Prince is documented in The Tale of Genji, by

October Revolution Problems
Lenin and Problems After the October Revolution
The initial difficulties faced by the new Soviet Union were to severe that its survival seemed almost
miraculous. The remains of the czarist regime left Lenin to face a country wrought with war,
devastated economically.
Russia s involvement in World War I, followed by its Civil War, wide spread famine and a change
in political and social ideology were the problems confronting Lenin after the October Revolution.
Lenin did succeed in ending both the war with Germany and the Civil War for Russia. Yet, the
economic and social aspects of the revolution can be more critically assessed.
Lenin knew the importance of ending Russian involvement in World War I.

As in the case of the World War, a simple end to the fighting did not signify an end to the
devastation that had been left as a consequence.
The economic and social problems that arose from the end of the czarist regime were dealt with by
Lenin initially unsuccessfully. War communism, a forced socialized economic policy began with
the confiscation of surplus grain.
It then extended to all other products. Abusive detachments fought peasant resistance with the
terror of the Red Army, and in 1919 when they gained control, with the Extraordinary Commission
(Cheka). What Lenin had thought would bring the triumph of communism rendered only misery
and disorder. The Kronstadt
Revolt in February, 1921 is an example of the indignation felt by those that saw the Bolshevik s
policies as too oppressive. Finally, Lenin sees that a transition period is necessary, and denounces
war communism for its impractical severity. Up until this point the disastrous economic and social
problems of the nation were not dealt with successfully.
Both World War I and the Civil War left rampant destruction in Russia s agricultural production.
Drought as well as the failure of war communism led to wide spread famine. At this point Lenin
introduced gradual economic measures that began as agricultural policies. According to British

ways mass customization has always been a factor that service firms have necessarily embraced.
The intangible business of dealing with people directly and providing services is by nature
customized to individuals involved in the transaction(s). What mass customization of products in
manufacturing contexts can provide to service organizations by way of example; are the models of
lean manufacturing, kaizen and organizational structure. Lean manufacturing teaches the value of
waste control, kaizen frames continuous improvement and the common factor between these
approaches is highly trained employees (Daft, 2016). Highly trained employees who are
empowered and versed in both technical aspects and soft skill aspects of customer interaction; best
support a service organization. A service organization employee has to be able to address
customized requests at each interaction, which is why service firms are labor and knowledge
intensive (Daft, 2016, p. 273) when compared to the product focus of a manufacturing firm.
Although there is that clear difference in focus (or expenditure) between a manufacturing
organization and a service organization, an organic structure is most applicable for both. Highly
trained and empowered employees function best in an organic, decentralized environment

The Yellow Wallpaper, And Desiree s Baby
Not so long ago, there was a time that men s dominance and superiority over women was the
social norm. Men were the accepted authorities in any relationship and held all the say. In the two
stories, The Yellow Wallpaper , and Desiree s Baby , the female protagonists are portrayed as
weak characters who are heavily dependent on their husbands for everything. Without the men in
their lives, the women would be essentially helpless. But the authors of these two stores were
nothing like their characters. They were both strong willed women who had a voice of their own
and wanted to make sure it was heard. Thus, both authors used these stories to give feminisma
voice.
Feminism was a concept birthed and bred during the Progressive Era, and time when women s
suffrage was at its peak. Women had gained the right to own property, own businesses, and some
women even began working outside the home. Both stories, Desiree s Baby and The Yellow
Wallpaper were written in the early 1890s, during this pinnacle time in women s right.
The authors of both stories wrote their stories, either accidentally or on purpose, with the
undertones of feminism, hoping to expose the unequal treatment and expectations of females to
males. Both stories challenged the stereotypical roles of females, and in both, the females ended up
being the one in power of their own destinies and overcame the rule of their dominant male
counterpart.
In The Yellow Wallpaper the narrator, Jane, is a wife and mother.

Budget Deficit Analysis
Across the United States, public schools are experiencing major budget deficits. These deficits
lead to a debate over what program or sometimes multiple programs will be cut from schools in
certain areas. Fine Arts programs are often the first considered and ultimately cut from schools.
More specifically theatre and dance are among the most targeted in artsprograms. The National
Center for EducationStatistics reported, In the 2009 10 school year, 3 percent of elementary
schools offered instruction that was designated specifically for dance during regular school hours.
This percentage represents a decrease from 1999 2000, when 20 percent of the schools reported
instruction that was designed specifically for dance (Parsad 40). However,... Show more content on

Students face high amounts of stress on a daily basis making the main benefit of dance education
stress relief. When an individual dances the body releases the neurotransmitter, endorphins, which
serve as the body s natural painkiller to reduce stress. (Dancing to Relieve Stress par. 3). Another
emotional benefit to dance education is the ability for students to express themselves. A journal
titled, Creativity, Self Expression, and Dance by Peter J. Arnold goes into detail about the
connections between dance, creativity, and self expression. Arnold claims, Self expression in its
naturalistic state is perhaps best characterized as a form of emotional discharge which results from
an unreflective reaction to a situation or event (53). He then explains, It is sometimes said, for
example, that activities like creative writing, singing, music, painting, pottery, carving, drawing,
instrumental music, drama, and dance help the child or adolescent to act out or aggressive
tendencies, conflicts, and tensions (Arnold 53). These activities may not be available for all
students when outside of the school setting, thus removing them from schools would leave students

In India, the TV line up for younger children has grown this year, with the launch of Cartoon
Network s sister channel Pogo, with programming ranging from Barney Friends for pre
schoolers, up to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone and the animated Mr Bean series for older
children. While in Thailand, Virgin Radio Asia has just launched two new radio stations aimed
at young listeners. Stations in the northern university city, Chiang Mai, and on the holiday
island of Ko Samui, are in addition to the four stations Virgin has launched in Bangkok since
entering the Thai market two years ago. Content for Chiang Mai will be based on the Bangkok

predates TV, and is well behind the days of MMS and video streaming, but its affordability and
portability makes it a good choice if not necessarily a favourite for youth marketers. Radio is
huge for this market, says Ian Stewart, CEO of youth brand specialist marketers The Filter Group.

National Environmental Policy Act ( Usfs )
In 2002, President Bush established the Healthy Forest Initiative. This was his response to a
multitude of forest fires during the year 2000. The initiative would allow for swift responses to
the threats of wildfires. The process in which the United States Forest Service (USFS) goes
about reducing the forest fires includes the thinning of forests by timbering, and removal of
hazardous materials such as small trees, species of brush and shrub, logs, stumps, and whatever
material could lead to an increase in forest fires or their severity. Most materials that could lead
to an increase in forest fires are seen and defined as hazardous fuels. Reducing forest fires seems
like a noble idea, especially when seeing the damaged caused after that fire season during the year
2000; however, the way in which the U.S. Forest Service is going about the removing of these
hazardous fuels has come under much scrutiny. Under the National Environmental Policy Act
(NEPA), with additions from after the enactment of the Healthy Forest Initiative, the U.S. Forest
Service is allowed to remove hazardous fuels or reduce the threat of wildfires without doing an
Environmental Impact Statement(EIS) or an Environmental Analysis (EA) under a categorical
exclusion. A categorical exclusion being defined under NEPA В§1.3 as a category of actions that
have no potential for significant environmental impacts, you may categorically exclude the action
from analysis in an EA or EIS before deciding to implement

Beetroots contain Betalains which are the red pigments present in the cell vacuole. Betalains are
soluble in water and they contain nitrogen. Betalains extracted from beetroot is commonly used as
food dye because it is not known to cause any allergic reactions.

The results increase steadily between 0В°C and 45В°C. There is a steep increase between 45В°C
and 65В°C. This is the point when the proteins in the cell membranes are denatured causing gaps to
form in the membrane, thus allowing more red pigment from the beetroot to diffuse into the
distilled water.
An increase in temperature increases the kinetic energy of betalain molecules thus increasing rate of
diffusion of the red pigment from the cytoplasm into the distilled water. The denatured proteins and
an increase in the fluidity of the phospholipid causes the substance contained in the membrane to
leak out.
There is a small increase in the spectrophotometer reading between the temperatures 0C 23C. This
is because the membrane structure becomes more rigid and less red pigments leak out of the
membrane.
Validity and Reliability
The experiment is repeated twice and an average is obtained. This ensures the consistency of the
measurement as the reading is triplicated, thus reducing anomalies. It can be seen that the reading
obtained were around the same value. This proves that the results are reliable.
The results obtained support the hypothesis at the beginning of the experiment. Apart from that, the
experiment is conducted according to the instructions given. This increases the validity of the

The Disagreement: Lenora and Joshua
When you are in a relationship, arguments or disagreements can arise. They can often trigger strong
emotions that lead to hurtful words and uneasiness. If these conflicts are not resolved in a healthy
way, resentment and a dissolved relationship could follow. However, when they are resolved in a
proper manner, it could promote growth between the couple and fortify the bonds of their
relationship (Conflict Resolution Skills).
In the case between Lenora and Joshua, they are having a disagreement about Lenora returning to

Joshua must understand that Christa s needs are not just Lenora s responsibility. His participation
is detrimental towards the development of their child.
Guideline 4: Avoid Mixed, of Double Messages
Leonora needs to mitigate criticizing Joshua on how his income doesn t cover the monthly
expenses. She should demonstrate that if she returned to work, the financial burden would be
reduced.
Joshua s perspective on day care should be emphasized because it will produce an unnecessary
expense. Furthermore, a large part of their income would result in the consumption of day care.
Guideline 5: When You Can, Choose the Timeand Place Carefully
Lenora and Joshua should set time aside to discuss their conflict instead of randomly arguing over
the same issues. By doing this, it gives each other time to put thoughts together instead of saying
something that they don t mean or is derogatory.
Guideline 6: Address a Specific Issue, Ask for a Specific Change, and Be Open to Compromise
Lenora needs to express her desire to go back to work because it will benefit both Christa and the
family. But at the same time, Lenora should consider the affect it will have on her when she goes
back to work. Maybe the solution could be to compromise with Joshua, to stay at home for one
more year, to nurture Christa.
Joshua should sympathize with her desire to go back to work for the positive effects it will have

Gender Roles In The Caribbean Culture
Over several years gender roles have been present in our daily lives. Society has preconceived
judgments on what role each gender should play and when it is ok to go against societal norms.
Although as the years continue to progress and societal norms begin to change, one thing that has
remained the same is the gender rolestigma. Genderroles have been instilled within us even before
we exit our mother s womb, from the color the newborns room is painted in down to the color
clothes they wear. Plenty of research has been conducted on gender roles in Western culture. Some
of the components researchers looked for were, what gender roles are, how they affect society
and the individual along with the culture and history behind where it began (Cobb, R. A., Walsh,
C. E., Priest, J. B. (2009). While researching gender roles and different cultures I could not help
but notice there were little to no research on gender roles within the Caribbean culture. This gap
of literature helped me pose the question why is there plenty of research on gender roles in
Western culture, but a scarce amount of research on gender roles in the Caribbean culture? Along
with, how will we be able to eliminate or shift societal norms of what gender roles should be? It is
important to touch on what gender roles are like in the Caribbean culture because then we can
compare and contrasts how gender roles are displayed within various cultures and ultimately come

Ghsty Two Places Of Gazelles
Ghsty two places of gazelles
The gazelle had not the secular role in ancient Egyptian society which was represented through
different phases of gazelle from give birth to grow up and hunting, but there is another ritual or
religious side of gazelle in ancient Egypt; gazelle was used during processions of temples (Flores
1999: 33 34). The ancient word GHsty is mentioned in pyramid texts and was represented by two
gazelles and referred to the place of two gazelles; this word is associated with Osiris place of
death and resurrection (Griffiths 1980:22; Gauthier 1925: 63, 87, Duemichen 1865: Pl. LXV, no.

mentioned on sarcophagus (Cairo 28027=T9C), (Banes and Malek 2000: 120; Newberry, P.E.,

Analysis Of Ulysses By Tennyson
The Meaning Behind Ulysses
(An Analysis of Three Messages From Ulysses by Tennyson)
Alfred, Lord Tennyson lived from 1809 to 1892 during the victorian age. As a boy, he was very
sensitive and was charmed by the words far, far away. Due to his extremely bitter father, Tennyson
was eager to leave the house and attend the Cambridge University. In the poem Ulysses, Tennyson
extends the original story of the hero of Homer s epic the Odyssey. The poem entails details about
the hero growing restless, in need of a journey, but unfortunately old with age. In the poem Ulysses,
Alfred, Lord Tennyson implies three major messages.
In the poem Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the first major message is there is always a
search for adventure. In the poem, Ulysses is an old adventurer who is unwilling to accept that
he is getting old and will eventually no longer be able to explore. Since the old man once
traveled the world, he would like to continue on his quest of exploration. How dull it is to pause,
to make an end. To rust unburnished, not to shine in use! (22 23). Tennyson used key
characteristic words in lines 22 and 23. He is explaining how Ulysses realized how boring it is to
sit at home. It also implies that Ulysses essentially rust from lack of use. In Ulysses, a dramatic
monologue detailing the Greek hero s escapades, Tennyson succinctly offers his view that humans
are shaped by a combination of all life s experiences. (Shaw). This quote is explaining that us,

Z s score fell in the 1st percentile in both auditory comprehension and expressive communication.
What this means is that Z scored as well or better than 1% of the sample population of children her
age, but 99% of other children her age achieved a higher score.
e.Age equivalent scores represent the average score of the children in the sample for a particular
age group in a specific area. For example, Z got an age equivalent score of 7 months for auditory
comprehension. This does not mean that Z understand language at a 7 month old level, but rather
that Z s score corresponds to the average raw score obtained by 7 month olds in the PLS 5 sample.
On the expressive communication section, Z s score translated to an age equivalency of 5
months, meaning that her raw score corresponds to the average raw score obtained by 5 month
olds in the PLS 5 sample. These scores try to compare children to the average X year old, but
language development is remarkably variable and the average child does not really exist. We like to
look as average as more of a range, rather than a set level of achievement.
2.Short term Session goals:
a.Given a field of 5 objects out of her reach and vocal/gestural modeling by the clinician and parent,
Z will increase frequency of intentional communication, using signs, gestures or vocalizations to

The Poetry Of Sara Teasdale s Love Poetry
Sara Teasdale, an extraordinarily sensitive and almost reclusive woman, had a lifelong struggle
with her disparate personalities and ever changing beliefs which led her to write extremely
passionate poetry about her venture to find love and the hardships she faced along the way. To
say the least, Sara Teasdale had an extremely difficult life full of ups and downs. She went from
being a puritan young woman from St. Louis, Missouri to a successful but uneasy poet in New
York City to a depressed and disillusioned person who ended up killing themselves in 1933. She
constantly dreamed of and wrote poetryabout a lovethat would set her free from all of her problems.
Her feminine love poetry included philosophical depth and self examination and eventually made
her a fortunate woman, winning her the first Columbia Poetry Prize, later renamed the Pulitzer
Prize, in 1918 (Walker).
Sara Teasdale was raised sheltered, pampered, educated in private schools, and led to believe
that she was frail, chronically ill, and in constant need of protective care. As she grew up, she
took a few trips to New York and made new friends with very different backgrounds from her. She
dreaded becoming an old maid. She initiated several romances and began to distance herself from
the oppressiveness of her St. Louis Baptist background and gain a measure of mature self
assurance. She toyed with countless men for a few years, but ended up married to Ernst Filsinger,

The Midnight Ride That Wasn t Paul Revere s contributions to the colonial effort before and
during the American Revolution were so important that without them the history of the United
States could be very different today. As a member of the Sons of Liberty and founder of the
Mechanics , Revere was successful employing propaganda, code and cipher, and an early warning
system to aid colonists in the defeat of the British. However, it is Paul Revere s midnight ride,
warning of the British advance on Lexington and Concord, that he is most remembered for. And
Revere s contributions as the first intelligence operative supported the success of the colonists
before and during the American Revolution. But what if Paul Revere never took that midnight ride?
How would the lack of intelligence resources affect the result of the first battle of the American
Revolution? The paper will examine how the outcome of the American Revolution would have
changed without Paul Revere s actions and contributions of intelligence and intelligence assets.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord On the night of 18 April 1775, hundreds of British troops set
off from Boston toward Concord, Massachusetts, to seize weapons and ammunition stockpiled by
American colonists. Early the next morning, an advance guard of nearly 240 British soldiers
reached Lexington. Paul Revere s famous ride ahead of the British departure from Boston alerted a
group of nearly 70 Minutemen along the route from Lexington through to Concord. When the
British finally arrived the Minutemen were waiting and prepared. In the midst of all the confusion
and commotion, someone suddenly fired a shot it s uncertain which side and a melee ensued. When
the brief clash ended, eight Americans lay dead and at least an equal amount were injured, while
one redcoat was wounded. The British continued on to nearby Concord, where that same day they
encountered armed resistance from a group of patriots at the town s North Bridge. Gunfire was
exchanged, leaving two colonists and three redcoats dead. Afterward, the British retreated back to
Boston, skirmishing with colonial militiamen along the way and suffering a number of casualties.
The Revolutionary War had begun. But how different

Analysis Of The Film Green Lantern
As one can imagine, being trapped out in the ocean, hundreds of feet from any kind of safety
while an enormous shark is circling you, has to be the most frightening experience one can
endure. Nancy, a young medical student ventures out to a secluded beach in Mexico to enjoy
some time surfing, but little does she know how close to death she will come. The suspense that
builds up as Nancy struggles to escape her predator throughout the film is what keeps the viewers
on their toes, as the entire movie revolves around her plan to make it back to shore. This being the
plot, can seem dull and uninteresting at first, but as the film progresses, it s hard to take your eyes
off the screen. The acting of Blake Lively, who plays Nancy, helps to make the film even better, as
many people know her from her other acting rolls, such as Sarena van der Woodsen from the hit
television show Gossip Girl and Carol Ferris from the film Green Lantern . The director of the
film, Jaume Collet Serra, is known for creating movies with an extensive amount of suspense. He
is able to get an incredible performance from actors, as well as understand all of the scenes from
the perspective of the viewers, thus giving him the ability to know exactly what needs to take
place to keep the film interesting. Because Blake Lively is in every scene, it is obvious that the
film is customized to her and her acting skills. She portrays a protagonist who most overcome her
fear and gain strength throughout the course

I Am At Cedar Park
After months and months of waiting for a decision, I had come up with my own solution. The
money didn t seem as if it would come through for my brother and me to go to the private school
my dad worked at, Hyde Park, so I was mentally prepared to stay at Cedar Park for the rest of my
high school career. Everything seemed to be pointing at me staying there anyway, the guy I had
been in love with since 7th grade had just asked to get back together with me the night before,
this morning I had just run the Color Run with one of my best friends, and I had just finished
hanging out with a group of my favorite people since we had to do a school project. It seemed as
if God was calling me to stay at Cedar Park, and then when my mom came to pick me from my
friend s house, she said that one sentence that changed my life; The money came through,
welcome to Hyde Park. I couldn t believe it. Up until this past weekend I was all for resigning from
my life at Cedar Park to go pursue a life at a new exciting school where I knew no one but my
brother. It had been a dream of mine since the summer before my sophomore year; I yearned for
the knowledge of how to find myself in a new place and to have the ability to play sports since I
had chosen band my freshman year at Cedar Park and was cemented with it for the rest of high
school. And now sophomore year was almost over and I was finally a sixteen year old ready to take
on the world with a license, wanting freedom. For so long I had been

Importance Of Volunteering In Healthcare
Internships, Volunteering, and Certifications
I have conducted some research that pertains to facilities management in healthcare. The majority
of the research was conducted locally within the state of Colorado. This research gave some insight
into different variations of volunteering and internship opportunities as well as professional
certifications.
Internships and Volunteering
In Colorado I was unable to find internships that related directly to facilities management. I was
however able to find a few programs from local hospitals that offer internships in facility
maintenance that offer to pay for two years of community college during the internship. At the end
of the internship the hospital will offer to hire candidates, which is a great start on the path to
becoming a facility manager. The second internship I found was at the Children hospital in Denver.
The hospital offers volunteering and internships opportunities in many different fields. On a
National scale I was able to find many different intern and volunteering opportunities that directly
related to facilities management in healthcare.
Most of the opportunities required individuals be involved in healthcare in some degree or be
enrolled in college classes with a degree program related to healthcare. Most of ... Show more

I decided to look on Linkedin at facility managers and directors to see what certifications were
popular. One of the most popular certifications was the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager
(CHFM) from the American Society for Healthcare Engineers (ASHE). This certification was
needed in most of the available job opportunities for facility managers. This certification is a part of
the American Hospital Association which is a national organization that represents and serves all
types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and

Jim Crow Laws
Throughout the years of the 1900 s, segregation in the United States was strictly enforced due to
the specific laws held in place during this time. The Jim Crow laws, designed in 1877, highly
obligated the segregation between blacks and whites. These laws were designed to create separate
facilities for blacks and whites to use, all for the purpose of demonstrating that one race was
inferior towards the other (Woodward). Unfortunately, these laws resulted in a negative impact on
citizens and society, and later went on to affect different cultures such as Mexican Americans in the
state of California. After the Mexican American War, California was won over by the United States
from Mexico, declaring it a newfound state in 1848 (McCormick). Mexican American immigrants
flooded the state of California in the early 1920 s due to the immense boom in agriculture. These
immigrants were needed solely for labor purposes, increasing the immigration rates from Mexico to
the United States, causing racial tensions to arise between non Anglo Americans and Anglo
Americans. Due to the tensions between both races, discrimination among the non Anglo
Americans started to worsen, limiting their access to fair employment and a quality education
(McCormick). During this time, school segregation was taking its toll in specific areas in
California, due to the pressure Anglo residents were putting on the school systems. More Mexican
s were immigrating to California every year causing a

What Is The Six Thinking Hat
Edward De Bono is a man nominated for the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2005, and is
considered as a leading example in the area of creative thinking and innovation. He is the proud
author of the six thinking hats. His six thinking hat theory is widely used in many organizations
such as IBM, Prudential, GM, BT and Nokia. His methods are now a mandatory in schools in many
countries. The six thinking hatsare white, yellow, black, and red, blue, green
The white hat is based on facts and calls on facts and nothing less. A business person or even a
student is recommended to be in the white thinking hat when dealing with something factual and
straightforward. For a person who is on a white thinking hat will only look through the facts and
figures and concludes based on that finding. For example, a business man who is looking through
figures and data on a fact sheet, will come up with a conclusion or decision based on that only and
will not compromise for any other discussion. The advantage of being on white thinking hat is that
there will be no rule breaking and everything will be a clear cut ... Show more content on

When on this hat, a person is allowed to express anger, dislikes and disagreements. In business
this thinking hat comes in handy when there are too many disagreements on the topic. This
thinking hat is rather interesting as Red Hat Thinking is very valuable as it shows that all the
emotions such as intuition, feelings are supposed to be expressed. And there will be the presence
of that. If there are any feelings involved than it would be good to share it as it might help with a
proper business planning. The red thinking hat includes variable feelings, such as curiosity,
enthusiasm, interested, or even boring. All this feeling somehow plays a part in a discussion as
someone with a red thinking hat might find the proposal boring and that would trigger the rest of
the thinking hats to get deeper into the feelings and find a

City of Boston, Massachusetts
The major cities of the United States are all very interesting, after I analyzed my decision; I

1630 and has a rich historical background making it a very important city in the United States. The
city of Boston was the home to several important events during the American Revolution such as:
the Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, the Siege of Boston, Battle of Lexington and Concord,

to use this support to afford my studies, and my daughter living expenses while finding a part

I keep cutting all expenses related to myself such as clothing and leisure. As you already know,
due to the rules that applied to my nationality I was able to start applying for a part time job until

Comparison of the Movie and Book Of Mice and Men Essay
Comparison of the Movie and Book Of Mice and Men
In Class we watched two movies based on a book we read called Of Mice and Men. Both of the
movies were very similar to the book. In I was able to hear exact lines from the book in the two
movies. In the book and in the second movie Curley s wife was not given a name. She was not
given a name to symbolize that she was nothing more than a possession of Curley. Curley s wife
was given a name in the first movie. Her name was May. I think that the first movie we watched

rendering of Crooks. In the second movie it was very obvious that he had a crooked back. The
book and the two movies all did a good job of showing Crooks s loneliness. The incident in Weed
was portrayed differently in the book and the two movies. In the book the incident in weed was
only talked about. The first movie started out with Lennie and George running away from the group
who were trying to catch them. The second movie started out with the girl in the red dress running
away from Lennie. The incident I Crook s room was pretty much the same with the book and the
first movie. It started out with Lennie going in because he saw a light. Then Candy went in and
they talked about their dream. Crooks offers to work on the farm for free. Then George went in
to get Lennie to go to the bunkhouse. Last, Curley s wife went in and wanted to know what
really happened to Curley s hand . In the second movie Curley s wife never goes into Crook s
room to ask about Curley s hand. The book and the two movies all portrayed the killing of the
puppy and Curley s wife in a similar fashion. Lennie accidentally killed the puppy while playing
with it and tries to bury it. Curley s wife went in and coaxes Lennie into a conversation about there
dreams. Curley s wife lets Lennie touch her soft hair which leads to her death. The scene in the

The spots are more likely to appear on the face, around the ears, under arms and belly. The child is likely to have a fever and due to the spots being so itchy they will feel uncomfortable and irritated, mild painkillers can temporarily alleviate this however there I no found treatment to stop chickenpox. The incubation period for chickenpox is between one and three weeks; its most infectious time is between one and two days before the rash appears, but it continues to be infectious until all the blisters have crusted over. This means that if a child has got chickenpox they must be away from the nursery for 2 3 weeks so that other children are protected. General colds/coughs are normal in children and they will on average have around 8 a year, this is because they have an immunity to the common cold however as they get older they will get colds less as their immunity is growing stronger with each cold they get. The city of Goddess Athena will succeed under the leadership of the famous Pericles, to experience the greatest glory that a city would ever know. Pericles will be the one who will sign it and through his politics Athens will enter the so called Golden Age . He was the one who actually transformed Athens from a city state to a metropolis and gradually to an empire. (Pericles, 2009) All started with the Delian League which rendered Athens a dominant in the Hellenic area. As soon as the treasury of the League was located in Athens there was a sudden development in many areas including, constructions, trade, arts and culture. He had also made many social reformations allowing citizens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spartans were terrified of Athens evolution and were looking for a cause to interfere. That cause will eventually come by the Corfiots. The naval battle in Sivota in 433 BC will mark the beginning of the Peloponnesian War that lasted for 27 years. (Ancient Warfare, 2008) At the beginning of the war the Athenians had managed to keep Spartans away, but a sudden plague resulted in the death of a major number of Athenians, including Pericles himself. Soon enough his strategies were abandoned and as none of his processes had the ability to lead the army. The next day found Athens under the Spartan Sovereignty. The Peloponnesian War managed to radically change the flow of history. It was probably the most destructive and those who took part in it didn t remain unaffected. At the same it signed the end of democracy and the Golden Age. Although the Peloponnesian War was the reason for the end of the Athenian Golden Age it would be unfair to blame only the Spartans. Warfare was a usual thing in the ancient times as there was much competition between city states. If we take into account the rule of rise and fall, the end of the Golden Age would be inevitable and that was proved by the fact that when the Peloponnesian War was over the new force in the Hellenic area, the Macedonians conquered the whole Greece, establishing a new form of government, the ... • 5. A Career Intuitive, And I See Dream Jobs m a career intuitive, and I see dream jobs. When I work with clients, I see their gifts and potentials; what they came here to do; the careers they would love; and where they should live. This information comes to me as photographic images and strong messages that I transmit directly to my clients. Sometimes I see my client s departed loved ones, who come to the session to offer career guidance. This joining of two seemingly disconnected worlds the divine realms and the world of work seems to be my particular talent. I was born in New Orleans to a French Cajun mother who came from a long line of women with the gift. I inherited a double dose of telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition from her and her mother, and on back through generations of Degas women. These unusual gifts were nurtured by the mysterious city of my childhood. In the haunted alleys of the French Quarter, most everybody gives respect to the unseen world in some form or other: voodoo, Catholicism, psychics, vampires, Mardi Gras. My early years were flavored with this spicy magic, from my Grandpa s stories of the swirling Mississippi River to the unforgettable images I absorbed in the dark recesses of Crescent City life. I thrived on the rhythms of my crazy Cajun ancestors. And, like them, I heard other people s thoughts and had vivid dreams of events that would happen in the future. • 6. Comparing and Contrasting Two Learning Theories Comparing and contrasting two learning theories One of the simplest and most commonly used methods of conceptualizing learning is that of reinforcement theory (Noe 2010: 142). Every time a parent promises a child a toy for being good during a grocery store trip or threatens a teen with being grounded for bad grades, he or she is using reinforcement theory. Reinforcement theory is based upon the assumption that people want to experience as much pleasure as possible and avoid pain. Thus, businesses offer workers bonuses for good work, and issue reprimands (such as docking pay or denying a promotion) for poor behavior. The formal method of instilling learning through reinforcement theory is to use a schedule. According to a fixed schedule, a person is rewarded for performing the behavior a specific number of times; according to a continuous ratio schedule, the reward occurs after every behavior, and according to a variable ratio schedule, the reward does not occur with any predictable consistency when the behavior is performed. The advantages of fixed and continuous rewards are that the behavior is more quickly instilled. The advantage of a variable schedule is that the behavior is less quickly extinguished, given the subject anticipates getting a reward for a longer period of time (Noe 2010: 143). Reinforcement may be effective in encouraging people to perform relatively rote tasks, but most organizations require more complex forms of behavior to function. People must be ... • 9. You Can Do It Baby By Leslie Garrety Analysis Are Parents Actually Against You? The article You Can Do It, Baby written by Leslie Garrett portrays an idea where parents, teachers, and adults are working against children when it involves their future. The article focuses on the fact that most adults tell children that they can be whatever they want to be. The speaker is a young twelve year old girl. In this article, she is giving her opinion on how all children are told they can be anything they want to be, when in reality, they can t. The author of this article makes the point that she believes it causes long term harm on children by telling them this instead of helping them in their future. She states this causes children to consider themselves as a failure when they cannot become whatever they want. Sometimes, this can cause children to feel entitled or disappointed in life when they find out the truth. In the article, Garrett states her idea that adults should not be telling this to kids because it isn t true. She proves this by providing research and references. There is an editorial cartoon that is not directly connected to this article, but has the same idea as Garrett. The cartoon helps strengthen her idea without having as many outside sources. These two articles use rhetoric to similar effect. In this article, Leslie Garret provides a wide range of research that all comes to the same result. The research focuses on asking the children want they want to be when they grow up. Most children s answers are something like these: professional athlete, doctor, teacher, singer, or an artist. The likelihood of every child being able to become one of these things is very low. When asking a child this question, how many respond with a taxi or a bus driver? Or even a trash man? Not many children dream of having jobs like that when they grow up. These conclusions from multiple studies all come to an agreement that telling children they can be anything they want to be causes more long term negative effects than positive effects. Many children in these studies are shown as not engaged or dissatisfied and even disappointed. If a child has such high hopes that they can be a professional athlete, they will not be happy with what they end up doing as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Imapct of History on Japanese Culture Essay Introduction Japanese culture is very unique. It is a culture that has stirred many outsiders curiosity throughout history because of a level of mystery that surrounds it. It is a culture that many admire. The reasons behind the mystery and uniqueness of Japanese culture to outsiders is due in part to the unique history that have made it what it is today. Because Japan is a chain of islands its culture has developed in an atmosphere of isolation and control to a certain extent. Over the history of Japan , layers of cultural development can be seen where outside influences were either adapted or shielded from the culture. There are three very influential layers created by the Age of Reform (AD 552 710), the Meiji Period (1868 1912), and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buddhism and Shintoism developed and exist together peacefully throughout most of Japan s history. (National Geographic Society, 2010) During the Age of Reform Emperor Temmu set the precedent for future Japanese emperors by setting himself up as the Heavenly Emperor. In doing this, he linked the position of emperor to having a higher power. Emperor Temmu set the foundation for what is known as the classical age of Japan which includes the Nara and Heian Periods. Nara Period With the Nara Period (AD 710 794) came a permanently located capital city, carefully organized into a grid of streets. This new capital created a stability in which culture could flourish. The first known collection of Japanese poems, Manyoshu, or Ten Thousand Leaves was created. Buddhism became the focal religion and many shrines were built. During the Nara period the aesthetic seen clearly in modern Japanese culture started to develop, stemming from the Buddhist idea of sensitivity to things . The remains of the czarist regime left Lenin to face a country wrought with war, devastated economically. Russia s involvement in World War I, followed by its Civil War, wide spread famine and a change in political and social ideology were the problems confronting Lenin after the October Revolution. Lenin did succeed in ending both the war with Germany and the Civil War for Russia. Yet, the economic and social aspects of the revolution can be more critically assessed. As in the case of the World War, a simple end to the fighting did not signify an end to the devastation that had been left as a consequence. The economic and social problems that arose from the end of the czarist regime were dealt with by Lenin initially unsuccessfully. War communism, a forced socialized economic policy began with the confiscation of surplus grain. It then extended to all other products. Abusive detachments fought peasant resistance with the terror of the Red Army, and in 1919 when they gained control, with the Extraordinary Commission (Cheka). What Lenin had thought would bring the triumph of communism rendered only misery and disorder. The Kronstadt Revolt in February, 1921 is an example of the indignation felt by those that saw the Bolshevik s policies as too oppressive. Finally, Lenin sees that a transition period is necessary, and denounces war communism for its impractical severity. Up until this point the disastrous economic and social problems of the nation were not dealt with successfully. Both World War I and the Civil War left rampant destruction in Russia s agricultural production. Drought as well as the failure of war communism led to wide spread famine. At this point Lenin introduced gradual economic measures that began as agricultural policies. According to British historian E.H. • 22. The Value Of Waste Control Mass customization of products has become a common approach in manufacturing organizations. Explain the ways in which mass customization can be applied to service firms as well. In many ways mass customization has always been a factor that service firms have necessarily embraced. The intangible business of dealing with people directly and providing services is by nature customized to individuals involved in the transaction(s). What mass customization of products in manufacturing contexts can provide to service organizations by way of example; are the models of lean manufacturing, kaizen and organizational structure. Lean manufacturing teaches the value of waste control, kaizen frames continuous improvement and the common factor between these approaches is highly trained employees (Daft, 2016). Highly trained employees who are empowered and versed in both technical aspects and soft skill aspects of customer interaction; best support a service organization. A service organization employee has to be able to address customized requests at each interaction, which is why service firms are labor and knowledge intensive (Daft, 2016, p. 273) when compared to the product focus of a manufacturing firm. Although there is that clear difference in focus (or expenditure) between a manufacturing organization and a service organization, an organic structure is most applicable for both. Men were the accepted authorities in any relationship and held all the say. In the two stories, The Yellow Wallpaper , and Desiree s Baby , the female protagonists are portrayed as weak characters who are heavily dependent on their husbands for everything. Without the men in their lives, the women would be essentially helpless. But the authors of these two stores were nothing like their characters. They were both strong willed women who had a voice of their own and wanted to make sure it was heard. Thus, both authors used these stories to give feminisma voice. Feminism was a concept birthed and bred during the Progressive Era, and time when women s suffrage was at its peak. Women had gained the right to own property, own businesses, and some women even began working outside the home. Both stories, Desiree s Baby and The Yellow Wallpaper were written in the early 1890s, during this pinnacle time in women s right. The authors of both stories wrote their stories, either accidentally or on purpose, with the undertones of feminism, hoping to expose the unequal treatment and expectations of females to males. Both stories challenged the stereotypical roles of females, and in both, the females ended up being the one in power of their own destinies and overcame the rule of their dominant male counterpart. The National Center for EducationStatistics reported, In the 2009 10 school year, 3 percent of elementary schools offered instruction that was designated specifically for dance during regular school hours. Arnold claims, Self expression in its naturalistic state is perhaps best characterized as a form of emotional discharge which results from an unreflective reaction to a situation or event (53). • 29. National Environmental Policy Act ( Usfs ) In 2002, President Bush established the Healthy Forest Initiative. This was his response to a multitude of forest fires during the year 2000. The initiative would allow for swift responses to the threats of wildfires. The process in which the United States Forest Service (USFS) goes about reducing the forest fires includes the thinning of forests by timbering, and removal of hazardous materials such as small trees, species of brush and shrub, logs, stumps, and whatever material could lead to an increase in forest fires or their severity. Most materials that could lead to an increase in forest fires are seen and defined as hazardous fuels. Reducing forest fires seems like a noble idea, especially when seeing the damaged caused after that fire season during the year 2000; however, the way in which the U.S. Forest Service is going about the removing of these hazardous fuels has come under much scrutiny. Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), with additions from after the enactment of the Healthy Forest Initiative, the U.S. Forest Service is allowed to remove hazardous fuels or reduce the threat of wildfires without doing an Environmental Impact Statement(EIS) or an Environmental Analysis (EA) under a categorical exclusion. This is the point when the proteins in the cell membranes are denatured causing gaps to form in the membrane, thus allowing more red pigment from the beetroot to diffuse into the distilled water. An increase in temperature increases the kinetic energy of betalain molecules thus increasing rate of diffusion of the red pigment from the cytoplasm into the distilled water. The denatured proteins and an increase in the fluidity of the phospholipid causes the substance contained in the membrane to leak out. There is a small increase in the spectrophotometer reading between the temperatures 0C 23C. This is because the membrane structure becomes more rigid and less red pigments leak out of the membrane. Validity and Reliability The experiment is repeated twice and an average is obtained. This ensures the consistency of the measurement as the reading is triplicated, thus reducing anomalies. Genderroles have been instilled within us even before we exit our mother s womb, from the color the newborns room is painted in down to the color clothes they wear. This gap of literature helped me pose the question why is there plenty of research on gender roles in Western culture, but a scarce amount of research on gender roles in the Caribbean culture? Along with, how will we be able to eliminate or shift societal norms of what gender roles should be? As a boy, he was very sensitive and was charmed by the words far, far away. Due to his extremely bitter father, Tennyson was eager to leave the house and attend the Cambridge University. In the poem Ulysses, Tennyson extends the original story of the hero of Homer s epic the Odyssey. The poem entails details about the hero growing restless, in need of a journey, but unfortunately old with age. In the poem Ulysses, Alfred, Lord Tennyson implies three major messages. In the poem Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the first major message is there is always a search for adventure. In the poem, Ulysses is an old adventurer who is unwilling to accept that he is getting old and will eventually no longer be able to explore. Since the old man once traveled the world, he would like to continue on his quest of exploration. How dull it is to pause, to make an end. To rust unburnished, not to shine in use! (22 23). Tennyson used key characteristic words in lines 22 and 23. He is explaining how Ulysses realized how boring it is to sit at home. It also implies that Ulysses essentially rust from lack of use. • 44. The Poetry Of Sara Teasdale s Love Poetry Sara Teasdale, an extraordinarily sensitive and almost reclusive woman, had a lifelong struggle with her disparate personalities and ever changing beliefs which led her to write extremely passionate poetry about her venture to find love and the hardships she faced along the way. To say the least, Sara Teasdale had an extremely difficult life full of ups and downs. She went from being a puritan young woman from St. Louis, Missouri to a successful but uneasy poet in New York City to a depressed and disillusioned person who ended up killing themselves in 1933. She constantly dreamed of and wrote poetryabout a lovethat would set her free from all of her problems. Her feminine love poetry included philosophical depth and self examination and eventually made her a fortunate woman, winning her the first Columbia Poetry Prize, later renamed the Pulitzer Prize, in 1918 (Walker). Sara Teasdale was raised sheltered, pampered, educated in private schools, and led to believe that she was frail, chronically ill, and in constant need of protective care. As she grew up, she took a few trips to New York and made new friends with very different backgrounds from her. She dreaded becoming an old maid. She initiated several romances and began to distance herself from the oppressiveness of her St. Louis Baptist background and gain a measure of mature self assurance. She toyed with countless men for a few years, but ended up married to Ernst Filsinger, a choice of middle class propriety and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Midnight Ride Analysis The Midnight Ride That Wasn t Paul Revere s contributions to the colonial effort before and during the American Revolution were so important that without them the history of the United States could be very different today. As a member of the Sons of Liberty and founder of the Mechanics , Revere was successful employing propaganda, code and cipher, and an early warning system to aid colonists in the defeat of the British. However, it is Paul Revere s midnight ride, warning of the British advance on Lexington and Concord, that he is most remembered for. And Revere s contributions as the first intelligence operative supported the success of the colonists before and during the American Revolution. But what if Paul Revere never took that midnight ride? How would the lack of intelligence resources affect the result of the first battle of the American Revolution? The paper will examine how the outcome of the American Revolution would have changed without Paul Revere s actions and contributions of intelligence and intelligence assets. The Battle of Lexington and Concord On the night of 18 April 1775, hundreds of British troops set off from Boston toward Concord, Massachusetts, to seize weapons and ammunition stockpiled by American colonists. Early the next morning, an advance guard of nearly 240 British soldiers reached Lexington. Paul Revere s famous ride ahead of the British departure from Boston alerted a group of nearly 70 Minutemen along the route from Lexington through to Concord. When the British finally arrived the Minutemen were waiting and prepared. In the midst of all the confusion and commotion, someone suddenly fired a shot it s uncertain which side and a melee ensued. When the brief clash ended, eight Americans lay dead and at least an equal amount were injured, while one redcoat was wounded. The British continued on to nearby Concord, where that same day they encountered armed resistance from a group of patriots at the town s North Bridge. Gunfire was exchanged, leaving two colonists and three redcoats dead. Afterward, the British retreated back to Boston, skirmishing with colonial militiamen along the way and suffering a number of casualties. The Revolutionary War had begun. But how different ... Analysis Of The Film Green Lantern As one can imagine, being trapped out in the ocean, hundreds of feet from any kind of safety while an enormous shark is circling you, has to be the most frightening experience one can endure. Nancy, a young medical student ventures out to a secluded beach in Mexico to enjoy some time surfing, but little does she know how close to death she will come. The suspense that builds up as Nancy struggles to escape her predator throughout the film is what keeps the viewers on their toes, as the entire movie revolves around her plan to make it back to shore. This being the plot, can seem dull and uninteresting at first, but as the film progresses, it s hard to take your eyes off the screen. The acting of Blake Lively, who plays Nancy, helps to make the film even better, as many people know her from her other acting rolls, such as Sarena van der Woodsen from the hit television show Gossip Girl and Carol Ferris from the film Green Lantern . The director of the film, Jaume Collet Serra, is known for creating movies with an extensive amount of suspense. He is able to get an incredible performance from actors, as well as understand all of the scenes from the perspective of the viewers, thus giving him the ability to know exactly what needs to take place to keep the film interesting. Because Blake Lively is in every scene, it is obvious that the film is customized to her and her acting skills. • 49. Jim Crow Laws Throughout the years of the 1900 s, segregation in the United States was strictly enforced due to the specific laws held in place during this time. The Jim Crow laws, designed in 1877, highly obligated the segregation between blacks and whites. These laws were designed to create separate facilities for blacks and whites to use, all for the purpose of demonstrating that one race was inferior towards the other (Woodward). Unfortunately, these laws resulted in a negative impact on citizens and society, and later went on to affect different cultures such as Mexican Americans in the state of California. After the Mexican American War, California was won over by the United States from Mexico, declaring it a newfound state in 1848 (McCormick). Mexican American immigrants flooded the state of California in the early 1920 s due to the immense boom in agriculture. These immigrants were needed solely for labor purposes, increasing the immigration rates from Mexico to the United States, causing racial tensions to arise between non Anglo Americans and Anglo Americans. Due to the tensions between both races, discrimination among the non Anglo Americans started to worsen, limiting their access to fair employment and a quality education (McCormick).
