2. INDRAPRASTHA COLLEGE LIBRARY
ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The Indraprastha Library strives to create a lively and
enriching intellectual environment for students.
Its collections caters to both the students’ academic
and recreational requirements.
Library is equipped with high-tech CCTV and Electronic
Article surveillance system.
User-friendly fully computerized On-line Library
catalogue is available for access to students.
In an open stacking system students can browse the
entire collection themselves.
3. Indraprastha College Library has a comprehensive
collection of Books, Periodicals and Academic
Journals
Books: The library is a proud possessor of over
1,00,000 books written in various languages like
Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Bengali and Punjabi. These
books are shelved under three broad sections,
namely,
Reference Section,
General Section ,and
Stacks.
4. BOOKs..
Reference section includes books that are meant for
consultation in the Library only. For example,
Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Year Books, some special
volumes of miscellaneous subjects.
General Section includes books on various subjects like
Gender study, Performing arts – Drama, Dance, Music;
painting, architecture etc..
Stacks Room stock the maximum collection of the Library
under specific department headings like History,
Economics, Mathematics etc.
5. Periodicals ..
Periodical is a published work that appears in a new
edition on a regular schedule. The most familiar examples
are the newspaper, often published daily, or weekly; or the
magazine, typically published weekly, monthly or quarterly.
Other examples would be a newsletter, a literary journal or
learned journal, or a yearbook. These examples are
referenced by volume and issue. "Volume" refers to the
number of years the publication has been circulated, and
"Issue “refers to how many times that periodical has been
published during that year.
6. Academic Journals ..
An academic journal is a peer-reviewed
periodical in which scholarship relating to a
particular academic discipline is published .
In our library we subscribe to journals
published in India and Abroad for example:
Indian Historical Review, Economic &
Political Weekly , Times Literary supplement
etc.
7. some special features
. The Book Bank has text books on various subjects
for needy students. These books are issued for a
year.

8. Library offers special facilities for the physical
disabled students
For VH Students
Braille Dictionaries for consultation only.
Braille books for circulation, available in Hindi and Pol. science
Daisy Books (CDs of Text Books available for circulation)
20 blank Audio Cassette can be issued to each VH student for a
year.
One Cassette cum MP3/CD Player can be issued to each VH
Student for a year.
They can issue documents from Reserve section
between 2.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m.
And sit anywhere in the college with their Reader, but return
them by 5.00 p.m. positively.
9. PHOTOCOPY SERVICE IN THE
LIBRARY
Library Photocopier is available only for Library
books and the documents which are not issued.
Students should give requisition at the Reserve
Section.
The charges are Rs. 0.50 for each A4 paper size.
Students will received the delivery of photocopies
after payment from Xeroxing Point between 10.30
and 11.30 a.m. , the following day.
Due to copyright issue, the whole book is not allowed
for zeroxing

11. Membership/Registration
How to become member of Library ?
Students after getting their College ID cards
may collect the requisite form available at the
Library Office and submit the same duly filled
along with a passport size photograph.

THE COLLEGE AUTHORITIES WILL NOT
BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOSS, IF
ANY.
14. Books: why you need to come to the library ?
Text books, General books related to your discipline.
Students can issue maximum of 5 books from the
stacks at a time
How long can you keep the library books
- 2 Weeks or for 14 days
Hold or Reserve : You can Reserve books on
circulation counter
15. BORROWING PROCEDURES
Step 1. Student should get their required books from the
stack room
Step 2. Before getting any book issued students must
satisfy themselves that its pages are intact. If any page is
missing, the Library Staff should be informed and get the pages
signed by them, failing which they will be held responsible for
the missing pages and would be required to replace the book.
Step 3. Hand over the books and Library Membership
Card to the staff available on Main counter for issue of books.
Step 4. Take the Issued books from the Delivery counter
near the Check Point.
Step 5. Get Due Date stamped from the Check point
Step 6. Books are now issued to be taken away from the
Library for a period of 14 days.
16. Students should know…
Students are entitled to issue maximum of 5 books.
Students must return the issued books on or before
the date last stamped (or within 15 days from the
date of book issued)
If any of the issued books are not returned in time,
you will have to pay fine.
For re-activation of the Library Card students should
Contact the Library Office.
17. FINE for Late
return of Library books
For any book late up to 2 days – No Fine
For any book late up to 5 days – Rs. 10/-
For any book late up to 10 days- Rs. 20/-
For any book late up to 15 days- Rs. 30/-
Fine for any book late more than 15 days –
Rs. 30/- + Rs. 10/- per day and library card
will be BLOCKED
(for reactivation of card, contact the Librarian)
18. Duplicate Library Card
In case you lose your Library Membership
Card, a duplicate card can be obtained on
payment of Rs. 100/-.
Please do not lend your library membership
card, as you will be held responsible for any
missing pages or lost books issued against
your card .
19. NO DUE CERTIFICATE
Every student is required to obtain a NO
Due/Clearance Certificate from the Library before
taking their University Roll Number/Admit Card or
leaving the College after returning the library books.
Failed students are required to return their Library
Membership Card within One Month from the date of
declaration of the result, failing which they will not be
issued the Clearance in future.
