This document outlines a workshop on developing positive co-teaching partnerships at Lambert High School. The workshop aims to help teachers view co-teaching not as a punishment but as something they want to do again. 18. Why Accommodations?
Accommodations are required to be implemented as stated in the IEP.
Accommodations change how a student accesses
information and demonstrates learning.
● Allow students to more fully participate in learning
● Provide equal access to learning
● Provide equal opportunity to demonstrate knowledge

19. Accommodations = Access
Allow the student to complete the same
assignment or test as other students,
but with a change to how it is accessed.
Accommodations level the playing field
but do not give the student a leg up!
Think: glasses for those who don’t have 20/20 vision or a
hearing aid for someone who is partially deaf or even crutches
for a person who broke their leg and needed surgery.

● According to Federal Law, IDEA and Section 504, an
IEP is required to address the specific
accommodations that are needed for each student to
access the general curriculum.
● Teachers are required and accountable for providing
accommodations that are stated in the IEP.
● Failure to implement accommodations may lead to
legal action.

● Document the Refusal in IC.
● Contact the Parent (phone call and/or follow-up email).
● Pattern of refusal? Contact Case Manager to inform them of the
pattern. They may hold an IEP meeting to address the refusal.
