Susan asks…
I detected a positive LH surge one day and the day after it was
very light is it normal?
Hi I am trying to concieve, i tried using ovulation detector kits and i was testing my LH surge
daily in the evening. I detected a dark like I would say the test line was 98% dark like control line
and the next day in the morning i tested again but it was a faint line. Is this normal? What is the
length of LH surge? me and my partner had intercourse the next day evening after i detected
the dark line i.e. after 24 hr i detected LH surge, but unfortunetly i got my period. Is it possible
that I missed my ovulation? Does LH surge graph increases gradually or it will just increase in a
day ? How will I know I should start to have intercourse starting this day? I want to have
intercourse as close to the ovulation as possible but I don’t want to miss the ovulation also. can
anyone help me? my period cycle is not stable it is some times 28 days, sometimes 29 this time
it is 30.
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Hi! There is a possibility that you can miss your LH surge. I am currently PG and when I was
TTC I took 2 OPK daily one mid morning and one in the early evening. Your surge may have
happened while you where sleeping or before your next test. I highly recommend taking your
temp and charting with a site like fertility friend. Once your temp drops and you get 3
consecutive days of high temps you will have confirmed you ovulated. Also know that you still

Betty asks…
Short LH surge: what’s going on?
I use digital OPKs. Usually I have a positive for three consecutive days, sometimes two. But this
time my LH surge lasted for less than 20 hours. I have been testing twice a day to catch the
surge as early as possible, and it is as well I did: Tuesday at 10:30 negative, Tuesday at 16:30
positive, Wednesday at 6:30 and later negative again.
For the last 2,5 weeks I have made some minor lifestyle changes: eating healthier than I already
did, not drinking any alcohol.
When I tested on Tuesday at 16:30 I was pretty dehydrated: small amount of darkish pee.
So what’s going on? Did my lifestyle changes affect the length of my LH surge? Did I get a
false positive because I was dehydrated and is my real surge still to come? Does a short LH
surge affect fertility?
Does anybody have any answers?

3. LH is detected and means you’re about to ovulate in the next 12-36 hours. Looks like your
surge was only 12 hours which is normal.
If you had sex during your fertile time then that’s good. Now you’re in the 2 week wait. Good
luck.
Carol asks…
LH surge but no rise in BBT?
Hello,
This is my first month charting. I started my period on 9/6 and have used the OPK since the
17th or so (off an on) and today I got smiley face:) My BBT temp (which i took this morning
before getting out of bed) was a 97.1 just like it has been for the last 2 weeks or so (97.1 or .2 or
.3 around there). I got sick last week so one morning it was 99.8 but I had a fever the day before
and that day so I am not counting that day as part of my BBT.
I didn’t do the OPK yesterday morning because i took my temperature and again it was 97.2 or
.3 so I thought well the temp is not high so i’m probably not ovulating. but I have had mucus for
the last 3 days or so. Much more yesterday than the prior days. Does this mean
is it possible to ovulate by to get a positive LH surge but normal temps (no rise in
temperature)?? if I am ovulating then that means I ovulate 23 days after my last period. That’s
pretty long isn’t it? Isn’t 2 weeks the ‘normal’. I blame thing length on the week i was really sick.
But then again last month it also took a while
we have been TTC for 14 months
thank you so much

4. Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Well, if you got a smiley face on your opk, then you would have ovulated 12-36 hours after the
positive. Your temperature may go up tomorrow because you may have ovulated today. I would
go ahead and have sex because you very well may ovulate today. More than likely your
temperature will go up tomorrow.
As for ovulation, it can happen any time during your cycle. I ovulated on cd 24 last cycle and 15
this cycle. It really just depends on the person. Your body will ovulate when it wants to pretty
much and it may happen the same time every month and then again, it may not. Don’t worry
about your ovulation not coming on cd 14 because that really rarely even happens. You being
sick could have kept it away this cycle. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t conceive the first
month of charting because it doesn’t always happen right when you want it to. Baby dust!
Laura asks…
Did I get my LH surge too early?
I usually have a 30 day cycle. Last month my period was 7 days late. Then I got my LH surge
on CD9. This means I will ovulate around CD10 or CD11. If I have a normal length cycle that
will mean a 20 day luteal phase. Isnt that really long? Do you think I should keep testing to see
if I get another LH surge? Do you think my period will be due earlier than 30 days this month if I
ovulated early?

5. Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Day 9 for a surge is not too early. It isn’t common, but not impossible for you to ovulate on day
10 or 11. You may start your next cycle earlier than normal, but that won’t be a problem.
Ovulation generally happens between 12 and 16 days prior to the next cycle, but it can be
sooner or later. I have had luteal phases that have been 10 days, and some that have been well
over 20. Everyone and every cycle can be different. Hope this helps!
Helen asks…
Am I right to be worried? CD 20 and no LH surge. I think my cycle
is 30/31 days?
I’ve been scouring the internet for the past month on advice on conceiving, CD1 was Thurs
26th Aug (previous to that I came off the contraceptive pill on Fri 23rd July and then bled Wed
28th – Sat 31st July) So I’m still unsure of my exact cycle length. I’ve been using OPK’s since
CD10 (Sat 4th Sept) making today CD20 with still no LH surge. Is this “normal”, should I be
worried? Most sites are saying that I should have my most fertile period from 9th-13th Sept…
Is it possible that I’ve missed my LH surge?
I’d be really grateful if someone could offer some advice or opinions. I’m probably being
over-paranoid as we’re trying for our 1st and I’ve never conceived before.

6. Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
It sounds like you have missed it yes, but don’t get yourself worked up it can be a long journey
to concieving. As you only came off your contraception in July, it can take a couple of months
for your body to be back to normal and ovulating as normal. That doesn’t mean there’s a
problem, it just might take a bit longer for you to ovulate regularly so keep trying the OPK and it
will happen when it happens. Dont let yourself get upset or angry if it doesn’t happen quickly, It
can take healthy couples up to a year if not longer. Also a tip, ignore fertility calculators,
everyone is different. Keep a record of your next few periods to see what your cycle length is if
you don’t get pregnant by then and it will give you a stronger indication of when you’re most
fertile. Good luck.
Mary asks…
I had sex on 6/26 and detected a LH surge on 6/29.. What are the
chances of me getting pregnant?
I have PCOS and have been trying to conceive for a few years.. This year we have really been
trying since I am in my 30?s. My periods are irregular because of the PCOS so my cycle length
varies from month to month. I took Beyaz for 3 months then doctor took me off them the first of
June I still take Metformin 500mg 2x a day. I used a OPK the last two weeks and on 6/29 it
detected a LH surge, I had sex on 6/26. I was curious to know what are my chances of getting
pregnant. My husband works offshore so having sex daily or even weekly is not a option.

7. Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
LH surges 12 to 48 hours before ovulation. So your chances are 50/50.
