This document discusses how gender is represented in perfume advertisements. It begins with having students brainstorm feminine and masculine words in pairs. It then defines representation as how gender is presented through media such as perfume ads. As an example, the teacher analyzes a Dior perfume ad in terms of denotation, or literal meaning, and connotation, or implied cultural and social meanings. Students are then tasked with analyzing ads in the same way by identifying aspects of femininity and masculinity presented. Finally, students write short analyses of the gender representation in a Dolce & Gabbana Sport ad.
