The class has 19 students including Franco, who needs extra attention, and Emilia, who hides under desks and refuses to work. Last class, both students participated well - Franco was enthusiastic and Emilia wrote some vocabulary. This lesson aims to revise clothing and color vocabulary through a story about animals wearing clothes. Class description:
Students are between 7 and 8 years old. They are 19 students (12 girls and 7 boys). The class starts
after the break.
There is a boy, Franco, that is integrated and he is usually accompanied by his special needs
teacher. When his teacher is not with him, he can sometimes get a little nervous or demand more
attention than usual. Sometimes he screams or hits his desk when he wants something and the
teacher does not respond immediately. The teacher in charge of the English class, Nadina, told us
that we should not praise Franco directly because he does not like it and he may get violent.
There is a girl, Emilia, who pretends to be an animal and hides under the desk. Until now, she never
got to work in the English class. The teacher tried in many different ways and tones of voice to
convince her to work as the rest of her classmates but she does not pay attention. We (trainees) also
tried to sit next to her and help her participate, but she does not answer, she does not look at us in
the eyes and she pretends that we are not there. Finally, the teacher decided to ignore her for a
while. The teacher told us that she was going to try to speak with Emilia’s mother about her behavior
in class.
The rest of the group is very participative and they work very well.
Most of the time they speak in Spanish, but when they have to answer questions in English or
participate in an oral activity all together they do it well. When they have to work in pairs orally, they
need the constant help/guidance of the teacher to do it.
The students have been working with numbers, colors, school objects, weather and seasons.
Franco worked very well last class! He was very enthusiastic about the activities and he participated
actively. Emilia likes to be a “helper” but she finds it very difficult to sit down and do the written
activities. Last class, she managed to write 2 of the clothes vocabulary. She did not want to play
bingo. Nadina talked to her mother after class and she told us that Emilia started going to the
psychologist.

 Revise and activate the vocabulary related to clothes and colors: jacket, coat, trousers, shoes,
boots, socks, scarf, hat, jumper, gloves, skirt, T-shirt, shorts.
 Listen, understand and enjoy the story “Animals should definitely not wear clothing”
 Infer, with the help of the teacher and the story, the name of some animals.
Language:
Lexis: vocabulary about clothes, adjectives, colors. Animals from the story.

Give each student a label with their name so as to know who is present and who is absent.
Write the date and the weather on the blackboard.

Play bingo with clothes and colors.

1. Show the students the “Magic Bag” and guess what we can find inside. Show them the
book “Animals should not wear clothing” and help them infer what it is going to be about.
Do animals wear clothes?
2. Sit down on the floor (bring the cushions from the music classroom) in a circle so we can all
see the pictures. Tell the story “Animals should definitely not wear clothing” with pictures.
3. Ask the students what clothes are the animals wearing. Go over the pictures and help them
produce sentences orally: The camel puts on his hat, The sheep puts on a jumper and a
jacket…
4. Together, think about other animals that would feel uncomfortable wearing clothes: dogs,
cats, birds, and any other animals that students can think of. Help them with the
vocabulary. E.g. “A dog with trousers” “A cat with shoes”

5. Hand out blank sheets for students to draw an animal with clothes. They have to use their
imagination. We can produce a book with their pictures. Students should draw and write the
name of the clothing that the animal is wearing. (If we can’t finish this activity, we should
finish it next class. I will take the drawings and bring them back next class).
