Assessments are important tools that provide feedback on student learning, demonstrate understanding, and improve learning. They measure achievement, show comprehension, and enhance the learning environment. Assessments can go wrong if they are not congruent with learning goals, focus too heavily on standardized tests, or negatively impact teacher motivation. When used correctly, assessments benefit students by diagnosing strengths and weaknesses and informing teaching practices.

School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) can help schools by reducing problem behaviors, suspensions, and increasing time spent on teaching with a common language for behavior issues.
