• The inclined surface on either sides of
the river are called valleys.
• The down cutting of the river is faster
than the lateral cutting of the valleys
and due to this ,the depth of the river
increases. They cause the valleys to
take the “v” shape.

• A deep valley with steep near
vertical sides are known as
canyons.
• E.g: Grand Canyon is situated in
Arizona in USA
