Abdul Muttalib proposed naming the Prophet Muhammad, which means "praiseworthy", despite others having never held that name before. Amina also saw a dream indicating he should be named Muhammad. The name is mentioned in the Quran and had been prophesied in previous scriptures. Muhammad's name was extracted directly from Allah to elevate his status, and he will be praised in heaven. The Prophet also had five other names reflecting his roles and being the last prophet. Names can positively or negatively impact one's personality, so choosing good names like Abdullah and Abdur Rahman that invoke Allah is recommended.

“Your status is Mahmud and your name is
Muhmmed nobody in the world holds your
status or your name”.

The Quraysh were astounished and said no
one has kept this name.
Abul Muttalib replied I am keeping it so Allah
and the angels praise him in the heavens and

“There will be a prophet come after me whose
name will be Ahmed” (Surah Saff, v 6)

Allah extracted the Prophet's name from his own so
that he may be exalted. The one on the throne is
Mahmud whilst this is Muhammed.
Prophet will be in the Maqam Mahmud (rank of
praise) in heaven.
He will have the banner of praise.

5. Prophet's other names


Propeht said “I have five other name, I am
Muhammed, I am Ahmed, I am Mahi (person
who rejects disbelief) I am Hashir (people will
gather at my feet) I am aqib (Last of all
Prophets)
Some scholars say the Prophet has 99 times.

6. Keep a good name





Names have affects on people's personality.
For instance, abu Jahl, Abu Hakam, Umar
Farooq, Abu bakr Siddiq.
Keep a name with a good meaning, it will have
a postive effect on the child.
Name after Prophet & companions.
Hadith: Allah loves the names Abdullah and
Abdur Rahman.

7. Nickname, Title



Prophets title was Abul-Qasim, then Abu
Ibrahim.
Jibraeel came to the Prophet and addressed
him “O Abu Ibrahim”.
