2. Abu Talib role in Islam
 Under the guardianship of Abu Talib the Prophet
remained unharmed.
 Abu Talib would not discourage the Prophet from
preaching.
 Stories prove his protection for the Prophet.
 Alongside protection, he would provide food and
shelter for the Prophet.

3. His passing away
 10 years after Prophet hood, Abu Talib passed
away.
 Same year Khadija also passed away. (Will
analyse more in detail later)
 This year was known as the year of sorrow and
anguish.

4. Incident when passing away
 Narrated by Bukhari, Muslim and Nasai that when Abu Talib was
about to breathe his last, the prohet drew close to him. Abu Jahal
and Abdullah bin Ummayah were also present. The Prophet
pleaded to him “O Uncle, say La ilha illaha once so that I have
some basis to intercede for you before Allah”. Abu jahal
remarked “O Abu Talib! Do you wish to renounce the creed of
Abdul Muttalib?”
 Abu Talib refused to utter the kalima, thus his very last words
were “Ala Millati Abdul Muttalib”.
 Abu Talib died saying this but the Prophet pledged, “I will
continue to make dua for his forgiveness as long as Allah does
not prohibit me”. Upon this the verse:
 “It is not permissible for the Prophet and the believers to seek
forgiveness for the polytheist even if they are relatives when it is
evident to them that they are inmates of hell”. (Surah Tawbah;
113)

5. Also this verse was revealed
 “You are unable to guide whom you wish but Allah
guides whomsoever he wishes”. (Surah
Qasas, 56)
 Narration in Nasai and Abu Dawood by
Sayyiduna Ali – Go and bury him even though he
died a Mushrik.

6. Evidence from those who say he
died a Muslim
 A narration by Ibn Abas that he heard Abu Talib say the
Kalima so he went to the Prophet and said to him, Abu
Talib have said what you had asked him. The Prophet
replied, “I did not hear him”. (Fathul Bari)
 Our answer to this narration is a narration in Bukhari
proves that Ibn Abbass asked the Prophet “What benefit
were you to your uncle? Prophet replied “He is up to his
ankles in the fire. Had I failed to intercede on his behalf
he would have been in the midst of hell.
 The above narration of Ibn Abbass cannot be comapred
to the Quran Ayats and Ahadith of Bukhari.

7. Conclusion
 The Khawarij were in favour of Abu Tralib bringing
Iman.
 If there are narrations, Shaykh idris Khandlewi
mentions the narrators were of the view that Abu Bakr
Umar were not Muslims.
 “It is unanimous belief of the Ahle Sunnah wal Jamah
that Abu Talib died upon disbelief as verifed by a
number of verses and Ahadith. Hafiz Torpushit writes
the disbielf of abu talib has reached the level of
Mutawatir”
 Conclusion : We acknowledge and appreciate the
efforts of Abu Talib but we do not say he brought Iman
in light of Quran & Hadith.

8. Prophet’s teenage years
Prophet would stay away from all things which were
a source of wasting time and uselessness.
Allah protected the Prophet from any type of bad or
evil even before Prophet hood.
As Abu Talibe was not very rich the Prophet would
work to help out.

9. Occupation
 Every Prophet send to this world was a shepherd”.
 Solitude
 Patience
 Contemplation
 Watchfulness
Why did Allah choose the Prophet do have this
occupation?
